I have to agree. EMO's popularity is gowing at a fast rate, and it
would be great for these bands to be successful, but I too would hate to
see EMO hit the "mainstream" for the same reason. Look at what happened
to ska, how long did that last. I think what really hurts artist these
days is that music can't just be music. There is always some pencil
pusher, in some record company office who says... "I think that I'll
label this band as blah, blah, so that I can market them and make money
off of the "new thing" $$$$$$$....," then all of the sudden you see it
everywhere, radio, MTV, the kid next doors band, and even in F@#?&N
advertising jingles, screw that!! Marketing and capitalism have taken
the joy out of being in a signed band, and also has shortened the life
span of those who are fortunate enough to finally make it. It is a damn
shame that these people find it so crutial to label music in such a
matter.
I would really hate to see SDRE, Pop Unknown, or Appleseed Cast get
caught up in the major industry hype, but I'd really hope to see them
succeed as a major roller in the industry as well. Just my two
cents..... hope I don't offend anyone.
Have a sunny one
Jeff
P.S. Has anyone here ever listened to Ridel High? I saw an alblum =
entitled Emotional Rollercoaster, and was wondering if it was any good.
