I like them better than the stone steps you had. It makes you listen harder for the crumbely ground near the edge of a pit or trap - Original Message - From: Thomas Ward thomasward1...@gmail.com To: Gamers Discussion list gamers@audyssey.org Sent: Wednesday, February 02, 2011 1:49 AM Subject: Re: [Audyssey] confused about platforms in Mota 17 Hi Hayden, Yeah, kind of reminds me of Montezuma's Revenge. As you might recall I used those exact dirt step sounds for Montezuma's Revenge. In fact, I custom made those dirt step sounds for Monte, because the ones James North had were terrible sounding. So I went out in my driveway with a digital recorder, walked around, and then trimmed them with Goldwave. So when playing around with the new level I realised the dirt step sounds sounded pretty realistic, and might be a good change. As you said it really reminds me of the early betas and so on. As for making some levels stone that really wouldn't work. I have the stone step sounds reserved for the staircases. Since they are the same sounds as the stone floor sounds in prior betas that might not work out too well. You wouldn't be able to find the staircases unless I came up with a different stone step sound. Cheers! On 2/1/11, Hayden Presley hdpres...@hotmail.com wrote: Hi, No I like it...it's very nostalgic. Hi Lori, It sounds to me like you were poisoned. If a harpy attacks you with one of her claws you will begin to get really sick from harpy poison. The only way to counter the effect is by drinking a magic potion made from phoenix tears. Which is exactly what the healing potions are you find throughout the game levels. Hi Lori, You know, I have considered an alternative method for crossing chasms, jumping large fire pits, swinging over lava, but wasn't sure how thrilled people would be about the idea. In some of the Tomb Raider games like Tomb Raider Legend and Tomb Raider Anniversary Lara Croft has a grappling hook she uses to swing over dangerous traps. You usually loop it over a large rock or crack in the ceiling, and then once the hook is set, you climb up the line a little way, and swing across the chasm, lava pit, or whatever trap is barring your way. I've often thought such a tool might make the game more interesting. However, on the other hand it takes some difficulty out of using a hidden pressure switch to lower a bridge or lower a spike trap etc at the same time. Cheers! Cheers! Hi could someone tell me how I get over the ledge in level 1 of the new beta? I go to the ledge, check my wepon is holstered but still I die. I tried hitting enter a few steps from it, but can't get a bridge to drop down or anything. Do I need to unlock something? Hi Thomas, Ok...impressiontime. Wow...this has come a long way from the alternative recording (although I still love it). I noticed you re-replaced the footsteplaced the footstep sounds. Why? Also--is it my imagination, or is Level 1 shorter? Over all, though, excellent and I can't wait for level 2! That lever if I'm not mistaken is in a room some ways back. Admittedly I haven't had the opportunity to play the new Beta despite it being on my laptop. A counseling session and then grocery shopping with my wife sort of took precedence. Re: [Audyssey] confused about platforms in Mota 17
Hi Hayden, I don't know about the level being necessarily shorter. In terms of horizontal movement the level isn't as long as before, but it is taller with more rooms on top of each other. This provides more of an equal virticle and horizontal movement in the game. I didn't want the game to be a triditional side-scroller where you just move from left to right and that's it. I wanted to be able to double back in places, more opertunity to move up/down, and put things where you might not expect them. As for the footstep sounds I decided to use a dirt floor instead of stone. Just thought that might be different. I was kind of getting tired of a stone surface throughout the game. Although, if people would prefer the stone floor instead I could certainly do that. On 2/1/11, Hayden Presley hdpres...@hotmail.com wrote: Hi Thomas, Ok...impressiontime. Re: [Audyssey] confused about platforms in Mota 17
Hi Hayden, Yeah, kind of reminds me of Montezuma's Revenge.
