Re: KRnet> Brakes

2022-11-20 Thread bjoenunley--- via KRnet
I bled my airplane brakes this week, why is it so much harder on airplanes than
in cars?

I was going to use DOT 4 for the extra heat protection but my amp said to use
the new 5606 replacement for the improved heat protection that the new stuff
provides.

I removed the bleeder valve and pumped fluid up into the reservoir, reinstalled
the bleeder valve and then they bled normally pretty well. It was a real
struggle until then.

Best of luck!

Re: KR> Vinyl Wrap

2018-02-21 Thread bjoenunley via KRnet
I used vynal over a painted surface.  I purchased the vynal from amazon and
installed much of it myself.  I have some experience but not much.  Also had
some medium sized  images professionally printed; army stars and eagles, that
cost about $50.
I worried about the vynal pealing off so I didn't install anything in front of
the wind screen until I had flown a few hours at 125 mph.  Pealing was not an
issue for me.
I have a friend that covered his entire plane, and also found a guy who did it
professionally.  They were both very helpful.  See if you can find someone who
should be able to help you.

Joe Nunley Baker Florida

Hi All,

Anyone try vinyl wrap instead of paint?
Cedric is almost done with the fill process and has to decide on paints.
I’ve been reading a bit on vinyls and talked with the planevinyl.com folks -
but still unsure.  There are sure some advantages - especially weight if we can
skip the prime.

Can you wrap directly on filled/sealed composite?   I’ve tried a few small bits
and it seems secure and smooth.

If you wrap directly on composite, how protected is the composite from UV?

Clearly a vinyl wrap is not for long term outside parking, but longevity is
pretty good if stored in a hanger - and if a replaceable leading edge doubler
is used.

Cheers,
Owen

I did all the accuracy checks as described bellow.  Even after the checks my

Re: KR> Colin Hales

2017-07-17 Thread bjoenunley via KRnet
Dear All,
I am very sory to hear about Colin.  I will share some details of my experience
to help understand Colons;
I had about 13 5 hours of flight time on my plane when I hard landed.  The day
before the incident, I flew 2.5 hours of blissful and exhilarating flight, I
miss my plane!
The day of the incident I peflighted the plane and took off at around 1115. On
departure the engine hesitated.  I was past the point of safe landing, so I
continued to the end of the runway maintaining altitude, airspeed around 80
mph, and engine at idle.  At the end of the runway I made a tight left hand,
button hook turn to the runway. Straight ahaed was trees and i didnt want to
land in the trees.  In the turn i lost airpeed and altitude. I remember
thinking that I was going to need power to get out of the decent I was in.  I
don't remember anything else.  There was no damage to the airport property,
houses, airport fuel farm, fences etc.
Medics arrived and said that I was contious. I was life flighted to the best
trauma hospital  where they determined that I had 7 broken ribs, a broken hip,
2 punctured lungs. I hope to be released in a few days.  I hope this doesn't
discourage anyone, as soon as I am better I will build again.

Collins airplane looked more in tact than mine.
Good luck Colin!

I have Cleavland brakes and wheels but I used motor cycle master cylinders that
come with their own small reservoir and I kept both of them.  I am using the

somewhere on your engine?  Normally that comes off the stock "generator

have a vent  anywhere on the engine, yes, it could be pressure.  Valve

As a poor teacher with three kids in college and a bad aviation addiction, I
have had to save where I could with my KR2 construction.  I saved and budgeted
spending lots of my free time searching eBay, barnstormers, Craigslist etc.  I
found some great deals like my cesna wheels and brakes that I paid $50 for.  I
searched the net and scoured Web sites for ideas and designs that I could copy.
I built my own forward air box to save $250 if I had purchased it from Van's.
I spent years looking for an 0200 and settled for an A65.  I have two cars with
370,000 miles on them so I can buy more airplane parts.  I could go on but you
get the idea and yes, my KR2 is ready to fly. So if you are like me and have

probably the best option for in flight fire response but a parachute wouldn't

》It was not stainless and I did have it 》》wrapped and it lasted quit a long
time.
I used mild steel on this version because stainless was expensive.  I used high
temperature paint (barbeque paint) on the exhaust to protect it from rust.
Seems to work.

》what your wife considers an old pot is. 》Be forewarned.
When it comes to the pan I learned the hard way.  I was interrogated after the
led melting operation had begun.  We needed a new pan anyway.
My fishing weights melted just fine on the stove but I haven't been fishing
since.  I also used the led weights for pinewood derby racing that can be
purchased online or at the boy scout store.

KR> Christmas Wish

2016-12-23 Thread bjoenunley via KRnet

My KR Christmas Wish.
I asked "Santa" for a new rpm guage, a 6 inch linear actuator with switch, and
a bus and  battery to run both of those.
The linear actuator was very easy to retrofit. I used the same suport brace as
the mechanical  belly board actuation system.  Wiring is connected to my new
electrical bus that I installed on the passenger side wall under the dash
board.  The belly board extends and retracts in about 20 Seconds, much faster
than I had expected.  I don't get as much travel, I was getting 85 degrees with
the mechanical system and only about 70 degrees with electrical,  it will
probably still work.
The battery is the portable kind that you would use to jump start your car. It
is lght, portable, digital readout of remaining charge percentage, built in
flashlight.  I have no starter or alternator so I will pull it out to charge on
the bench.
