[NTG-context] Defined command troubles

2013-09-05 Thread Xan
Hi,

I just want to define a shortcut for framedtexts...

That's it:

\def\important{\dodoubleempty\doimportant}
\def\doimportant[#1][#2]{\bgroup
\ifsecondargument
   \startframedtext[background=#2,frame=off,width=broad]%
   #1
\else
   \startframedtext[background=screen,frame=off,width=broad]%
   #1
\fi
\stopframedtext
\egroup}

It works perfectly with \important[Anything] but not with
\important[Anything][red].

By the other hand, I want to define 'important' for use with start and end
(startimportant ... \stopimportant) and not with single command. How can I get
it?

Thanks,
Xan.

You have to download from the wiki [1] and install them in your tex directory
by yourself
because the author of the module hasn’t asked for inclusion in the context
suite. You need
also the crossref module [2] which is used by simplebib for references to the
entries.

[1] http://modules.contextgarden.net/simplebib
[2] http://modules.contextgarden.net/crossref

Wolfgang

How can I install it in my tex directory? (commands)?

Thanks,

[NTG-context] [***SPAM***] \defineenumeration options?

2013-05-21 Thread Xan

Hi,

I have two enumerations:

\defineenumeration
  [exercici]

[alternative=serried,text={\startcolor[middlecyan]Exercici\stopcolor},stopper={.\space},left={\bgroup},right={\egroup},width=fit,headstyle=\ss]

I just want to join into one: when I do \startexercici ... \stopexercici
ConTeXt do the first, and when I pass \startexercici[vora] ...
\stopexercici then do the second. That is, 'vora' as optional argument.

How can I achieve that?

You have to write you own version of the exercise environment which
chooses one the two enumerations dependent on the argument.

\def\startexercici
{\dosingleempty\dostartexercici}

\def\dostartexercici[#1]%
{\edef\currentexercici{#1}%
 \doifelse{\currentexercici}{vora}
 \startexercicivora
 \startexercicidefault}

\def\stopexercici

 \stopexercicidefault}

It has a -t switch that outputs txt and a -tt and -ttt switches that

Thank you for answering and sorry for delay. I will check it, but I
suspect that if I have

 $$\int_{i=1}^{\infty} x^2$$

in one latex document and it generates pdf, then mupdf -t of that
document does not generate that formula, else S i=1 x².

Can you test your example with the mixedcolumns environment
instead of the normal columns environment (use the latest beta).

Wolfgang

Yes, it works perfectly (I attach my example).

Can someone put reference on wiki on such environment? Useful for novice
users like me.

Attached is a proof of concept implementation for sympy. All the three

these packages will require adapting those python script to generate
results in ConTeXt syntax rather than in LaTeX syntax.

I do not understand this sentence. Does this do what you want?

Easy: in ConTeXt

For the other hand, is width=1cm arbitrary? Without left=( and right=),
what is the separation between text and numbers? I think it's a little
bit of 1cm, isn't?

Anyone could say me the exact values I have to put in **layout**?

There is a technical explanation in The Not so Short Introduction to
LaTeX [tobi.oetiker.ch/lshort/lshort.pdf]
(page 129)

It's too much for me. I supose there are equivalencies in ConTeXt but
too bit tech for me.

Thanks,

You first have to figure out what the exact latex values are. I suppose that
they are documented somewhere or can be deduced from the document class
(maybe make a list for more popular document classes).

At some point there can be a module doing things like

 \definelayout[latex-article][...]

What you have reported there is not a bug. After installing ConTeXt, you
need to run (luatools --generate) as a normal user; only then mtx-contex.lua
will be found.

The need to run luatools --generate is not sufficiently
visible (it is in README.MarkIV). Any package that requires
user configuration steps should have a mechanism to inform
the user that such steps are required. I suspect the damage
was already done by the time the OP tried luatools --generate ,
and was perhaps made worse by running the command from
a root prompt.

In your case, running luatools --generate does not help, and that is the
bug.

You are right, but with a system like context it is sometimes better to
avoid stressing the tools by following standard procedures.

The OP ended up with /etc/texmf/web2c/pdftex, which suggests that
MkII and/or fmtutil tried to install formats under /etc/texmf/web2c. It may
be too much to expect luatools to recover when things are not where they
belong and files under $HOME are not owned by the user.

Thanks George of confirming the bug.
In my opinion, the context package has to be ready for running. No
intervention of user should be needed. For the other hand, I have
problems running luatools, so we have a bug: or the first or the second.

We examine the geometry of the word problem of two different types {\bf

Hi,

I have installed context package
[http://packages.ubuntu.com/hu/lucid/context] in ubuntu. In theory it's

How can I fix it?

I have 10.04.

LuaTools | fileio: loading configuration file

[...]

Looks OK to me -- at least it finds /usr/share/texmf/web2c/texmf.cnf
and then looks
in Ubuntu/Debian directories (/etc/texmf, /var/lib/texmf, etc).

The next step is to run the checks from the wiki's Debian page
(program versions,
ability to find files, etc.).

Did you have any previous TeX or ConTeXT installed on this system -- a common
source of problems is intermingling multiple TeX systems (as opposed to keeping
each one in a separate tree, which allows you to switch between a number of
different systems). Once you have verified that the right files are found you
may want to file a bug report against the Ubuntu package.

I have installed
- texlive
- context
- pgf
packages. That's all.

So what's the problem?
It seems perfect, isn't?

Xan.

Add \fotenotetext after text, e.g.

It works for me. Thanks Wolfgang.

@Hans: can \dosetnote (MkII) check for horizontal mode

isn't \removeunwantedspaces better then?

[NTG-context] \startnarrower as \abstract in LaTeX and bottom layer as footnote without markers

2010-08-12 Thread Xan

Hi,

I try to duplicate this [http://arxiv.org/abs/0901.1458] article to
ConTeXt. The original article was written in LaTeX. I have to troubles
in this duplication:

- abstract: I emulate LaTeX abstract environment with \startnarrower
... \stopnarrower, as this
[http://wiki.contextgarden.net/Article_Abstracts] wiki page suggests.
But I see that the space between lines is much bigger in ConTeXt than
LaTeX and that if we put $n^2$ for example in abstract, ConTeXt displays
too big, as a normal text, instead of LaTeX where all is \small sized.

- for the other hand, I want to put a layer as a footnote without
markers. In the original article it begins with Date: How can I
achieve that?

- Finally, I want to put my name and title alternatively in the
headertexts, in odd and even pages. How can I do that?

Anyone could help me?

Thanks a lot,
Xan.

[NTG-context] Patterns in natural tables as background?

2010-05-23 Thread Xan

Hi,

Is possible to put patterns as background in natural tables (bTABLE...
eTABLE)?
I'm thinking in striped background, or squared background or something
more complicated as:
http://fc05.deviantart.net/fs7/i/2005/249/c/c/Scanline___screentone_patterns_by_C130.jpg

The problem I see is that we need some transparency if we want to put
text as foreground and not sacrify the legibility of the text.

It has to do with the way how TABLE is implemented, each cell is
defined as

\def\bTD#1\eTD{...}

this means when TeX sees a \bTD in the input it grabs everything till
the \eTD,

let's take a loo at this example

\bTABLE \bTR
\bTD
  \bTABLE \bTR
\bTD text \eTD
  \eTR \eTABLE
\eTD
\eTR \eTABLE

The \bTD from the outer table reads everything till the \eTD from the
inner table
and what ends up as real content for the table cell where you wanted
another table is

\bTABLE \bTR
  \bTD text

As you can see the \bTD as delimiting \eTD to end the cell and this is
what
cause the error message you get. The braces ({...}) as suggested from
the others
help in this case because the hide the \eTD from the outer table and
buffers

as suggested from Taco are another way to get around this.

Wolfgang

It's very simple ;-):
\slicepages[document.pdf][width,height,margin] %width and height the slice will
be. margin of the slice
\slicepages[document.pdf][width,height,topmargin,bottommargin,...,margintotext]
%topmargin... are the margin of the page, and margintotext is the margin
between the boundary of slice and text
\slicepages[document.pdf][A4,margin]
\slicepages[document.pdf][A4,margin,style] % style=thinlines, discontinued
lines, dots, by default none

Thanks a lot for the offering.

Cheers,
Xan.

The following methods work:

1) pdf2ps prova.pdf prova.ps
./poster -iA0 -mA4 -pA0 prova.eps prova2.pdf

2) convert prova.pdf prova.ps
./poster -iA0 -mA4 -pA0 prova.ps prova2.pdf

[NTG-context] mongodb and ConTeXt?

Just a curious idea: is there anything from connecting mongodb (or any
other nosql database) and ConTexT? I'm thinking in load the data from

Technically I think it's possible.

Yes, I am interested.

Great! ;-)

I do not see how one can change the width and height of a node
as I believe that the grid is defined through \setupFLOWcharts.

However, it could eventually be interesting to be able to modify
the frame size within a cell
\startFLOWcell [width=]
or
\startFLOWcell [scale=]
but this is not (yet) a feature...

I see no reason why one cannot set the color by FLOWcell,
but the obvious
\startFLOWcell [framecolor=red,backgroundcolor=yellow]
does not seem to work.

Yes, it's the natural way. I think the module could be improve in that way.

[NTG-context] Framed text with arrows

2010-02-18 Thread Xan

Hi,

I'm a novice yet. I just want to put framed long texts (paragraphs) with
arrows connecting these. I want to decorate these frames (background,
beaty border, etc.). Like entity-relationship diagrams but more beauty
and that I could put long text in each node.

Is this possible? Do I must use metafun?

Can you provide a simple example?

Thanks a lot,

There are two reasons why this is not done (yet?):

1. The microtypography of such textual labels is not the same in all
languages/countries: at least some require a change in the actual
ordering (prefix vs. postfix labels)

2. (and this is more important) Laziness from me. Not a good reason,
I know, but that's how it is.

This is a BAD new. I think it's important. It could be marked the difference
(in the bibliographyc
world) about ConTeXt and other systems. Unfortonately I have not enough
knowledge for doing that so
I depend of you ;-) Please, reconsider it. I think it will be a day of work for
you (at least with
preliminary version - not right-to-left languages).

In a long time, please put in your todo list the implementation of babelbib
[http://texcatalogue.sarovar.org/entries/babelbib.html] in ConTeXt

Thanks a lot,

/
There is only very limited support for internationalisation in the bib
module, but at least you can define the reference title:

   \setupheadtext[ca][pubs=Referències]

this definition is actually already there.

Yes, I know that.

For the small bits of text inside the reference list, you have to create
a copy of the relevant bibl-xxx file with the two-letter language code
attached to the name, edit that file to your liking, then do:

   \setuppublications[alternative=apa-ca] % for example.

/ For the other hand, is it possible to define second references like
// wikipedia? I plan to write a document that will have a normal
// bibliography citations (like \cite[bridson] and display the book of
// Bridson) and a wikipedia-like citations for citing specifically
// paragraphs of text (that I want to display like wikipedia references
// \wikicite[This text appears in paragraph 2 of \cite[bridson] in a reject
// of ]) Is it possible?

/
I am not sure whether I understand you correctly, but there is this
command:

   \def\getcitedata [key][field] to \macroname

which stores the value of 'field' in the reference 'key' into the
\macroname. The idea is that you can use this to fetch any simple
key from a reference anywhere in the document.

I will investigate it Thanks a lot,
Xan.

\startframedtext[location=top,frame=off,background=screen,width=\dimexpr\hsize-\itemgrouplistwidth\relax]

It does not work:

\itemgrouplistwidth is not defined in mkii, you could use a fixed
value like 2em

to decrease the width of the framedtext

\startframedtext[..,width=\dimexpr\hsize-2em\relax,...]

It does not work at all. The bullet is at top of the framedtext.

@Hans: can you save the current width of the textarea in itemize in
\localhsize so one can say 'width=\localhsize'

In what documents?
if you want to be kept informed but cannot visit user group

you get things on paper (apart from the fact that by sponsoring user
groups you also secure the future of tex support as user groups are
taking care of mailing lists, journals, distributions, and sponsoring

What are the benefits to become a member of ntg?. In the english page

\startframedtext[frame=off,background=screen,width=broad]\stopframedtext
in naturaltable, then I get that framed text passes table and that it
aligns at top.

Can you say me please how to get a right behaviour?

An example:

[NTG-context] References like wikipedia

2009-09-29 Thread Xan

Hi,

I just want to define a reference like like wikipedia reference entries.
Something like

Text\wikiref[\from[this] it's best like that] text

\listofwikiref

and show wikirefs like ^[number].

I'm sure it's possible ;-) but how to define it?. Any helps?

Xan.

Or number in \inproceedings...
Ideally, bib module should localizate bibitems according to
\mainlanguage value.

for doing presentacions in ConTeXt but I'm refering to any way for doing

Why? How can I get blank pages?

Even with no math I get the same error:

\startmydefinition Siguin $G$ un grup, $X$ un conjunt finit de
generadors de $G$, $\sigma \colon G \to {(X \cup X^{-1})}^*$ una secció
i $k \geq 0$.
$\varphi_{\sigma, k} \colon \naturalnumbers \to
\naturalnumbers$\mysymbol{$\varphi_{\sigma}$} definida per
$\varphi_{\sigma, k} (0) = 0$ i, per a tot $n 0$,

\startformula
\varphi_{\sigma, k} (n)= \max \{\frac{1}{k+1} \sum_{i=0}^k D_{\sigma,
g, h} (t+i) \mid t \in \naturalnumbers, (g, h) \in K_{G, X} (n) \}.

\stopformula
Quan $\sigma$ sigui clara pel context o sigui una secció genèrica,
escriurem simplement $\varphi_k (n)$\mysymbol{$\varphi_k$}. De forma
trivial, $\varphi_0 = \varphi$ i $\varphi_1 = \lambda_{0,1}$.

\stopmydefinition

If I comment this code, then all is ok.

Can you see all the code and take a sight if you detect the error?

[NTG-context] verbosity of context

2009-09-10 Thread Xan

Hi,

Is there any option for setting the verbosity of context?
In LaTeX, if someone passes an optional argument to command, it stops.
In ConTeXt, if you put \somecommand[optional-non-existent-option] it
runs and you then, when see pdf, know that it does not run.

Any option for stopping in that case?

Yes, Taco. With all files except source file deleted, and \mathematics
instead of $$ \index works.

Is it any know bug or so? Why is the reason of that?. Just curious.
