[freenet-support] MacOSX 10.8.5 reinstall
I downloaded freenet.jar and executed freenet.jnlp. This failed because needed to update Java which I did (jre-7u45-macosx-x64.dmg). Ran freenet.jnlp again which failed with an error "Could not parse launch file. Error at line 4. Document moved premanently html message. Please advise what to do to install freenet. Previously Freenet had been running for years on this machine but the hard drive failed with no backup; need to start over again. Re: [freenet-support] Source Code Link Problems on Main Download Page
Check http://code.google.com/p/freenet/downloads/detail?name=freenet-build01306-source.tar.bz2&can=2&q= Mel Charters mcharter...@q.com On Dec 14, 2010, at 2:27 AM, Daxter wrote: I noticed this problem previously but I never bothered until now to report it. That is, the /download.html page on freenetproject.org has a link to source code that rarely can actually be accessed. The last line of the page links to the source code here: http://freenet.googlecode.com/files/freenet-build01310-source.tar.bz2 and yet it cannot be accessed because it isn't actually there. After some checking I found that build 1306 is the newest version available this way. So, for at least 4 releases this (likely auto- updated) link has been pointing to (a manually updated) file that hasn't been uploaded, resulting in a lot of responses like my initial one: "WTC? Why can't I download this!? Are they trying to hide some CIA call-home code??" Whatever people might think, this consistently unavailable link only serves to turn away those who might help improve our code in the future. Now, how do we keep this from happening again? This is a particularly unique problem because, unlike with most projects where the vast majority of normal users only update when major releases come around every couple months/years, our entire user-base must update to the newest code something like once a week. It's easy for everyone else to simply triple-check their links before publishing, but for us it can get quite tiring to do that every week. I don't know what the best solution would be, but I think it's important that we fix this chronic broken-link syndrome. ___ Support mailing list Support@freenetproject.org http://news.gmane.org/gmane.network.freenet.support Unsubscribe at http://emu.freenetproject.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/support Or mailto:support-requ...@freenetproject.org?subject=unsubscribe ___ Support mailing list Support@freenetproject.org http://news.gmane.org/gmane.network.freenet.support Unsubscribe at http://emu.freenetproject.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/support Or mailto:support-requ...@freenetproject.org?subject=unsubscribe
Re: [freenet-support] Permission denied
Odd problem, try running ./update.sh instead of sh update.sh. get same result. Also make sure you own all the files in the dir, chown -R /Applications/freenet Doing a ls -l shows I own all the files in the Freenet directory chown exits successfully no error. Re: [freenet-support] Auto restart on Mac
Steve, Freenet starts and runs correctly when started with "sh run.sh start" in Terminal. I don't understand the console log terminology "respawning to quickly!"? Could it be a problem with the slow processor, it is 667 Mhz.? Incidentally, when I try to stop using "sh run.sh stop" in terminal it appears to just kill the pid, whereas if I shutdown the node in browser (Firefox) it seems to close files in an orderly manner. >Ok i will do some testing here. I am having problems getting freenet started. Using Mac OS 10.4.11 with Java Standard Edition (build 1.5.0_13-b05-241). Steps as follows. 1. Update to freenet 1053 in Terminal: sh update.sh update goes to completion then starts freenet. 2. Start localhost: with FireFox seems to start up fine, home page appears 3. click on statistics (localhost:/stats) here I get a blank page, nothing displayed. 4. In Terminal I display the wrapper.log (cat wrapper.log No unusual log entries. I notice that FCP has been started (127.0.0.1:9841) 5. With Firefox I display 127.0.0.1:9841 There is a fatal protocol error :Code 1 (CodeDescription=ClientHello must be first message ) I conclude there is a corrupted or missing file but I don't how to find or correct it. I have verified the router is tunneling the proper ports to my LAN. Does anyone have a suggestion as to what files should be in my freenet directory? How do I proceed from here? * Matthew Toseland <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> [2008-03-25 19:41:59]: Sorry, I'm the idiot who decided to create a firefox profile. I was simply trying to avoid some major performance issues we have because the default settings are not good for Freenet, and asking users to change them globally also sucks. Freenet has not destroyed any data, it has simply created a second profile. It launches it with -no-remote so it shouldn't be remembered by firefox, but somehow in your instance it was ... what you have to do is open a command line (start, run, type cmd), cd to the directory firefox is installed in, e.g.: cd c:\program files\mozilla firefox Then: firefox -ProfileManager You will then be presented with a list of installed profiles, including one called default and one called freenet. Click on the one called default and then click on the button to start firefox using that profile. Sorry. Matthew Toseland, Chief Developer for Freenet on behalf of Freenet Project Incorporated. PS support@freenetproject.org is usually the right place for these sorts of issues. To CC's: WTF are we going to do about this? First of all ask the user about the exact firefox version he is using and the output of the "about:buildconfig" page. Then determine whether his browser has profiles compiled in or not... If not we would also like to know where he got his browser from. NextGen$ I looked in about:buildconfig for my copy of Firefox (the latest, 2.0.0.13) but I don't see anything that looks like a profile in the Firefox Compiler flags: -Wall -W -Wno-unused -Wpointer-arith -Wcast-align -Wno-long-long -isysroot /Developer/SDKs/MacOSX10.4u.sdk -fpascal-strings -no-cpp-precomp -fno-common -I/Developer/SDKs/MacOSX10.4u.sdk/Developer/Headers/FlatCarbon; or Configure arguments: --target=i386-apple-darwin8.7.0 --with-macos-sdk=/Developer/SDKs/MacOSX10.4u.sdk --enable-application=browser --enable-update-channel=release --enable-official-branding '--enable-optimize=-O2 -g' --disable-debug --disable-tests --enable-update-packaging --enable-static --disable-shared --enable-svg --enable-canvas? I am not having very much luck getting Freenet 0.7 working as opennet. I have waited 24 hours but there has been no activity shown on the home page. I restarted the node, the wrapper.log shown is shown below ( I have xed out the port numbers, for darknet and x for opennet). AFAICT it looks OK except for the repeats of log entries. I have opened the relevant ports on the router and firewall. Is there anything I can try ? STATUS | wrapper | 2007/12/07 12:54:38 | Reloading Wrapper configuration... Re: [freenet-support] support for use of freenet
I saw mention of wrapper.log in a recent message. I looked in my wrapper.log for curiosity. I found a warning that I used version 3.2.0 of wrapper but Freenet assumes version 3.2.3 in wrapper.config, therefore some features may be missing in my installation. I suspect wrapper has not been updated on my system since I was running freenet 0.5 (in 2006). I should say that wrapper.log is the only place that mentioned anything might be wrong with the installation. The home page opens and works properly as far as I can tell. I found the URL for wrapper in wrapper.log and downloaded the 3.2.3 folder for my particular system, OSX 10.4.10. Will you tell me how to update from version 3.2.0 to 3.2.3, or a suitable reference? > >Is there a file called wrapper.log in the directory you installed it to? If >so, please post it for us. Is there a Help Site that goes deeper into the questions newbies may have about Freenet, and where people can contribute too? Yes, an unofficial, more elaborate Freenet Help Site was created, to go deeper into the questions newbies may have about the usage and inner-workings of Freenet. It's a wiki, thus everybody can contribute too it. Hm? I be that underline (here) is the link that is so difficult to read in the original location. Wonder if it works in this relocation? (Nope) I must admit I have more trouble finding out how to learn about the system now than I did three or four years ago, acknowledging the site is almost all new. I learned that running the old system via dial-up from an ISP that reboots at least once a day was quite impractical, but I do continue to read some of the chatter on a regular basis (with a very long blank space in the middle of my reading). Re: [freenet-support] Downgrading Java on OS X
Jon, I tried all of your suggestions without success. Go to /System/Library/Frameworks/JavaVM.framework/Versions/ and delete the 1.4.2 folder. Removed and deleted the folder, could not empty trash because a file was in use so I had to restart the computer and then empty trash. I also edited these files to say 1.4.1 instead of 1.4.2. /System/Library/Frameworks/JavaVM.framework/Versions/A/Resources/Info-macos.plist /System/Library/Frameworks/JavaVM.framework/Versions/A/Resources/version.plist I did not find references to 1.4.2 but rather to 2.0.0. I changed them to 1.4.1. When I asked what version Java (java -version) response was that java could not be found If that doesn't work, then download the 1.4.1 installer after you do all that and reinstall. After all that I tried to reinstall 1.4.1 but the installer says a later version exists. So some reference to JavaVM 1.4.2 still remains somewhere in the system. I restored the 1.4.2 folder, but not changing the resource files again, Java came back and I was able to run Freenet (for an hour). Downgrading a framework is not easy on MacOSX! Re: [freenet-support] Java.io.EOF Exception
Matthew, Thanks for answering my call for help. Just means your seednodes.ref is truncated. Shouldn't be a big deal. How many connections do you have (web interface -> advanced mode -> open connections)? How many node references (web interface -> node status -> routing table)? What was the original problem? I have not yet been able to get Firefox 1.0.4 to run http://localhost:/. I get a message from Firefox saying, "The connection was refused when attempting to contact localhost:." I have made all the recommended changes (using about:config). I have not set up any proxies for accessing the internet, do I need to? I am running MacOSX with a router and a firewall set to pass FNP traffic. I am on a cable modem using a static IP address. While monitoring listen port (7984 as shown in freenet.conf) I see no FNP packet traffic at all. But Fred0.5 seems to be running (top reports 9 threads, 165 mach ports, and about 70% cpu usage, ps reports status RN eg: runnable, low priority.)
