[Bug 532458] Re: update-binfmts: /var/lib/binfmts/wine corrupt: out of binfmt data
Looks like I might have a failed install of wine - attempting to re- apply 1.1.39-0ubuntu1~karmic5 reproduces the python2.4 + python2.5 installation failure. Happy to go back to Wine on karmic main, I removed the PPA repo and attempted to reinstall Wine 1.1.31-0ubuntu3, which triggers errors this time with python2.4-minimal and python2.5 minimal. The other possibility is that I moved up to Telepathy/Empathy from PPA the other day, as it is utterly broken for ICQ+AIM in Karmic. [Bug 462530] Re: ICQ doesn't work in Empathy
I have both AIM and ICQ broken with the very same symptoms as this ticket, in Karmic. I could open a new ticket, but it's bound to be marked as a duplicate of this ticket. apt-cache policy empathy empathy: Installed: 2.28.1.1-0ubuntu1 Candidate: 2.28.1.1-0ubuntu1 Version table: *** 2.28.1.1-0ubuntu1 0 500 http://ftp.iinet.net.au karmic-updates/main Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status 2.28.1-1ubuntu1 0 500 http://ftp.iinet.net.au karmic/main Packages As per Marat above @ #16. That is, Karmic is not seeing the 2.29 packages, and I am seeing the same problem. I wonder how many issues the Lucid package might cause on Karmic - anyone have any thoughts on that? I'd switch back to Pidgin, but it seems to have developed a 100% CPU spin issue since I last used it. -- ICQ doesn't work in Empathy https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/462530 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 527431] [NEW] gtk_window_set_decorated(window, FALSE) does not work when called before showing the window
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: libgtk2.0-0 Calling gtk_window_set_decorated(window, FALSE) before showing the window does not seem to be working (the window will still have window decorations). I've attached a small reproduction case with more details in a header comment. Building and running that program on versions of Ubuntu 10.04 give the expected result of no window decorations on both windows. In Ubuntu 10.04, the window that was shown after the call to gtk_window_set_decorated() will still have decorations. I'm using Ubuntu 10.04 alpha, up to date as of 14:30PST February 24th. The gtk package version is 2.19.5-1ubuntu6. This is reproducible with both Metacity and Compiz, so it is most likely not a WM issue. ** Affects: gtk+2.0 (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- gtk_window_set_decorated(window, FALSE) does not work when called before showing the window https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/527431 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I took a look at the documentation for the function to make sure this behavior wasn't intentional, and it actually recommends calling set_decorated before showing the window, even though that's what triggers the bug: Depending on the system, this function may not have any effect when called on a window that is already visible, so you should call it before calling gtk_window_show(). -- gtk_window_set_decorated(window, FALSE) does not work when called before showing the window https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/527431 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 311869] Re: Add driver for Sentelic Touch pad
yeah it would be good to be able to disable tap-to-click or use syndaemon (Maybe? -- I haven't tried, FN + F3 works for me for now) I also have an MSI A6000 and I used phil's source module tar, and FSP works, except that after a suspend, if I touch the pointer at all it goes crazy with clicks and movement and causes the machine to be unusable without a restart. So the mousepointer goes crazy, and then the windows freeze in their positions, and the USB mouse (Apple Multibutton) still moves the pointer but clicking on things like title bars doesn't result in being able to drag the window etc . . . and when I press the power button, the shutdown - restart - suspend - hibernate window pops up and i am able to restart that way by keyboarding to the restart button and hitting enter. if I DON'T touch the trackpad after a suspend, it continues running great. [Bug 476652] Re: sound stops and begins clicking and popping
I also am having problems with my CM8738 based card since 9.10 upgrade (9.04 worked perfectly). It starts out working fine, then sound will just stop. When I really need the sound to work, I'll try a cold boot. Sometimes the pulseaudio based sound config doesn't even show the card, even though lspci does. Performing 'alsa force-reload' appears to correct the problem (even when the card refuses to show up in the Sound Preferences dialog, it will after running this). [Bug 396564] Re: grub2 shows 'biosdisk read error', then boots
Just to add my 2 cents... I was seeing this error and got here because I was having problems booting after I'd intentionally degraded an array to replace a disk in it. It was this error that got me here. After reading through this I tried the idea mentioned to disable the floppy drive that was enabled in the BIOS but not connected to the motherboard and now I no longer have this error. For those who are interested the reason why I wasn't booting was because my mother board (Asus P5K Pro) doesn't have the primary master / primary slave on SATA ports 1 and 2. They are 1 and 3. So /dev/sdc was actually the Secondary Master drive like one would assume but the secondary master drive is plugged into SATA port 2. [Bug 496256] Re: Nokia CS-15 USB modem does not work anymore and can not be installed in Karmic
I posted a fix for getting a Nokia CS-15 to work in Karmic (9.10) here: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/456162 Not sure if its the same modem as you are using, but some of the errors you are getting look familiar I havent had any problems with performance since getting it working, but it hasnt been long -- Nokia CS-15 USB modem does not work anymore and can not be installed in Karmic https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/496256 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 456162] Re: nokia cs-15 3g modem support
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 496256 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/496256 I was able to get my Nokia CS-15 working, but had to make three changes and add a package: First, make sure usb_modeswitch is installed using Synaptic (my system didnt have it and I needed to get it). Then, you need to modify the usb_modeswitch config to recognise the modem: In /etc/udev/rules.d/usb_modeswitch.rules, add the following lines at the end ### # # Nokia CS-15 # # Contributors: Razvan Dragomirescu, Antti Turunen # #DefaultVendor= 0x0421 #DefaultProduct= 0x0610 # #MessageEndpoint=0x01 # #MessageContent=5553424312345678061b000200 SUBSYSTEM==usb, SYSFS{idVendor}==0421, SYSFS{idProduct}==0610, RUN+=/usr/sbin/usb_modeswitch --default-vendor 0x0421 --default-product 0x0610 --message-content 5553424312345678061b000200 ### and then in /etc/usb_modeswitch.conf, add the following lines at the end of the file: ### Nokia CS-15 ;DefaultVendor=0x0421 ;DefaultProduct=0x0610 ;MessageContent=5553424312345678061b000200 These sections are needed so usb_modeswitch can recognise the device as one that needs to be switched from storage mode to modem mode, and then can do it. Making these changes gets the lights on the modem working, but you still wont be able to connect. The remaining issue is addressed (for the CS-10, but it affects the CS-15 as well) at http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1310892 That is, look at that other bug, and install the patch it suggests. [Bug 405148] Re: Laptop battery indicator indicates 0% charge when fully charged
I'm having a similar issue. Only, it isn't 0%. The amount changes. Lowest it has been was 62.3%. I thought this was odd, so decided to test my battery using the built-in indicator that is on the battery (Dell Inspiron 1720). The external test determined that my battery was at 100%. Now, here is the odd part. Once I pressed that button on the battery to see if the battery agreed with the battery indicator in Gnome, the Gnome indicator changed to 100%. I was plugged into the wall when this happened, so I'm not sure if it was an incredible fluke or if pressing the button caused the battery to pass info onto the kernel (or where ever the Gnome battery indicator gets its info from) that updated the indicator. Sorry for the double posting for the apport-collect info, I wasn't sure if I needed to run the utility as my user account or root, so I did both. The root account is the second one (comments #33 and 34). -- Laptop battery indicator indicates 0% charge when fully charged https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/405148 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 421276] Re: USB remote stops working
It is a hardware problem. I have experienced this on multiple motherboards / ram sets - multiple computers and as seen from this bug report, many people have this problem. Not sure what fixed it in your scenario, maybe it is an incompatibility with a specific subset of hardware, or maybe something totally different for you. -- USB remote stops working https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/421276 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 421276] Re: USB remote stops working
The problem I am experiencing is not a delay -- it just simply stops working, completely, which is why i believe it is a software problem (for me at least). My HTPC is running a fairly new processor, quad core, and 8gb ram, new mobo, etc. I'll have to try your fix, logging in via ssh, and see if that helps. If it does, may be that could be a clue to fixing the problem. [Bug 482698] [NEW] Proprietary nvidia drivers fail to set resolution size properly on geforce4 chipset
Public bug reported: This is the same computer in the bug https://bugs.edge.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nvidia-graphics- drivers-96/+bug/332048 except, but I am filing a new report because it is now the 185 driver, not 96 and Ubuntu 9.10 instead of 8.10. The display is 1024x768 when I know my LCD monitor can display 1280x1024 (I've been using it for years). Plus, the display was 1280x1024 when it was using the free/open nvidia driver prior to the proprietary one. So it seems that this problem is still not fixed. [Bug 442078] Re: Buttons in Eclipse not working correctly with GTK+ 2.18.1-1
Today I hit an issue that raises the severity for me - I've been running with GDK_NATIVE_WINDOWS=true happily, however today I wanted to launch self-hosted Plugin Development Environment (PDE), where under- development plugins are hosted in a new Workbench instance launched from the original Eclipse Workbench. I couldn't see immediately how to set GDK_NATIVE_WINDOWS=true on the target PDE runtime Workbench launched - the setting does _not_ propagate automatically to the new process. -- Buttons in Eclipse not working correctly with GTK+ 2.18.1-1 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/442078 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

It is still the same SW error and, yes, I copied both files. Although, all I need it the -2. It supersedes the -1. However, there is one difference, my software error is a 0x820 error code, not the 0x200 in this bug report. I just found another bug report on RedHat's website. well, nevermind. Wireless just died. Sorry for the false alarm. However, not a complete let down. My connection lasted for about an hour and a half. Usually I only get seconds before it goes down. [Bug 325973] Re: gnome-session keeps respawning nautilus when no desktop is drawed
I agree with Chris that a proper fix ought to be committed, rather than just another workaround. If nobody cares about the show_desktop option enough to fix it, maybe it should just be disabled (i.e. remove the gconf key, and just always show the desktop). Personally, losing this option would annoy me enough to make me finally dump the GNOME desktop altogether, but it's at least a solution, and it's better than just continuing to ship a broken Nautilus. The option is certainly useless in its currently broken state, so just disabling it shouldn't be much of a leap. -- gnome-session keeps respawning nautilus when no desktop is drawed https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/325973 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 325973] Re: gnome-session keeps respawning nautilus when no desktop is drawed
@Sebastien: Ooh, excellent idea. Here's my story ;) I don't want nautilus to draw the desktop because it doesn't give me a useful desktop context menu, or even any way to create a useful desktop context menu. And if it's drawing the desktop, it won't allow any other software to give me a desktop menu. So I just turn show_desktop off, and run xfdesktop instead (which gives me a context menu I can customize any way I want). I don't particularly care if Nautilus is running or not, as long as it's not sucking up too many resources. I just want a desktop menu I can control/customize. -- gnome-session keeps respawning nautilus when no desktop is drawed https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/325973 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
