[Bug 2080949] Re: lubuntu oracular 6.11 kernel; 1 display 'cannot display' & unusable on LIVE
I'm switching this bug report to INCOMPLETE... I re-installed on 780, and no issues experienced now. https://iso.qa.ubuntu.com/qatracker/milestones/454/builds/313490/testcases/1802/results ( I'll continue to watch for this though ... maybe the cable was hit during cleaning or something, thus issue is not software related.. I don't believe that though; but I've had a few retries now and have not re-created issue (when I re-created it 4 times on initial day???) ) ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu Oracular) Status: New => Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2080949 Title: lubuntu oracular 6.11 kernel; 1 display 'cannot display' & unusable on LIVE To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/2080949/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 2080935] Re: lubuntu oracular calamares - replace partition with %1
Just an FYI... But I mention it happening on d780 which contains a debian and three lubuntu releases; none of which are encrypted... Whilst dc7700 originally filed against is used for all types of installs, thus encrypted is possible there... I believe I was doing a REPLACE PARTITION install at the time it was first noticed; thus encryption would not have been involved as we're using full-disk encryption This issue is PETTY, and can (in my opinion) be - ignored, - or just documented (on discourse if we don't want to mess up release notes as very trivial). -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2080935 Title: lubuntu oracular calamares - replace partition with %1 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/calamares-settings-ubuntu/+bug/2080935/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 2080949] Re: lubuntu oracular 6.11 kernel; 1 display 'cannot display' & unusable on LIVE
Two ports are used on box DVI port cable (goes to acer 16:10 monitor) HDMI port cable (goes to dell monitor; one displaying the "Optimum resolution 1280x1024 60Hz" mentioned in initial report, as that is an old 4:3 monitor) I am NOT using VGA, but I do have different ports being used (DVI & HDMI on box). Do note: The HDMI cable is HDMI connector on computer end, but is DVI on the monitor-end of the cable; both my monitors are using DVI connectors (both monitors too old for HDMI) --- In working out which cable went to each monitor I booted installed system and paused it at grub, i disconnected the HDMI (to see which display went dark), then re-inserted cable and reboot into live media today the lubuntu 20240916 LIVE media displayed on both monitors?? exited rebooted to grub (debian testing/sid owns grub on box) & selected lubuntu oracular (installed system mentioned in report) and system booted up with both displays working (sddm & lubuntu session) ?? Only changes being - different day - both ACER & DELL monitors were turned off & turned back on (hoping it'd tell me which cable was being used; as monitors are connected to two boxes & set to auto) - HDMI cable unplugged from box; delay (checking which monitor went dark) & reconnect cable YET i can't re-create what I did on original bug report??? Again on - dell [optiplex] 780 (c2q-q9400, 8gb, amd/ati cedar radeon hd 5000/6000/7350/8350) I'm tempted to mark this bug as incomplete given today's testing.. but I'll re-test when I can. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2080949 Title: lubuntu oracular 6.11 kernel; 1 display 'cannot display' & unusable on LIVE To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/2080949/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 2078008] Re: Clicking the redshift-qt icon in the system tray results in Redshift terminating with exit code 1
> Isn't the timezone supposed to be basically autodetected when the ISO starts though? I would like to think so, alas not always. On occasion if I boot system & start a 'live' system and then start install - in most cases I'm told I'm with a 50-200km of home (commonly on the other side of my city of Melbourne; but my city at least) - about 1 in 10 its Subiaco WA/AU (2727km/1694mile away) or importantly a different timezone (3 hours behind); my ISP's headquarters are at this location - ~equal with Subiaco is New York NY/US (calamares default for unknown). If location isn't detected, redshift results (reddening/no-change) may NOT BE WHAT is expected even when its working 100% These results happen with all Ubuntu and non-Ubuntu ISOs so we can't do anything about it I suspect. I'd hope not all users experience what I do, but I also suspect others experience far worse than here in downunder. The error message is what I saw bug report about though. [Bug 2078020] Re: lubuntu 24.04.1 RC install ; unable to complete testcase
I booted current daily on - samsung 700t1c-p10aat (i5-3317u, 4gb, 3rd gen.core.intel.graphics.4000) and whilst it offered various (neighbor) wifi connections; it did not show my own (silent), so I'd not have been able to complete testcase on this device either this is another wifi only device; but options available in lubuntu- installer-prompt are device specific; and hidden-ssid networks appear not to be offered in selection. [Bug 2060624] Re: lubuntu/xubuntu reinstall (& install) on dual boot system, grub does appear & offer OS choice
@@nnelson/Neil, this is a specific bug thread on a very rarely triggered specific install case and NOT a support thread/site. You can get help with problems at the support tracker at https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu , or if you would prefer live chat support, you can find an IRC support channel for your flavor of Ubuntu here: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/IRC/ChannelList. [Bug 2073818] Re: Calamares Can't partition
I've just booted a current daily of Lubuntu noble (20240724) and had no issues resizing (existing partitions), deleting or creating partitions using calamares on my old hp dc7700. Three flavors of Ubuntu use calamares for noble (24.04), so calamares likely received more QA testing than prior releases where it was only used a single or two flavors (even it didn't receive more testing, it was likely done on more hardware given tree teams worked at it). I'll continue some testing (I'll use other boxes, plus expect to do the same with the current oracular ISO), but I'm not expecting any issues given QA testing already done on calamares for noble. Three flavors are testing for 24.04.1 currently. [Bug 2064909] Re: Lubuntu and Kubuntu 24.04 fail to decrypt on boot when installed on encrypted partition
Thanks for responding, AND asking for further help! Sorry I didn't think thru my wording clear enough... To be useful the `apport-collect` has to be run AFTER a failed install, however to confirm it failed (by your already provided description) you need to reboot & thus the report I want will have been lost (due to reboot). My mistake Sorry. -- NEW INSTRUCTIONS FOLLOW Please boot your machine again (install media), run the install (as you've done a number of times again) and then after install completes DO NOT REBOOT when asked to. Instead open a terminal and run apport-collect 2064909 ie. it'll add details from that machine, your ISO used, and the install report & other details from the currently 'it appeared to work' install... THEN YOU CAN REBOOT. On reboot, you can confirm the INSTALL FAILED (ie. you could NOT boot into your installed system) or INSTALL SUCCEEDED... At this time, return to this report & please just add a comment that followed instructions I laid out here (comment #3) and run `apport- collect` as requested, and please add the install FAILED TO BOOT (as described in bug description), or worked perfectly etc... (or whatever you feel compelled to add given you're running the install). Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because your description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful to read "How to report bugs effectively" http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem. We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures. At a minimum, we need: 1. The specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the problem. 2. The behavior you expected. 3. The behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible). Please also ensure that you include the release and flavour of Ubuntu that you are using. The capacity of a dual layer DVDR(W) is 8.3-8.5GB (8.5GB unformatted), which will fit a Ubuntu ISO though you didn't specify what Ubuntu product/ISO you're meaning; eg. a Ubuntu Desktop 24.04 LTS ISO is smaller (5.7GB) than this size for example. [Bug 2060624] Re: lubuntu/xubuntu reinstall (& install) on dual boot system, grub does appear & offer OS choice
Just an FYI... but on the two cases I've encountered this issue I didn't install as per #14. I'll have always performed a 1. full disk install (any prior partitioning erased); noble (may not have been lubuntu) but single partition only 2. install alongside (calamares wording; auto-resize type creating a second install) (ie. I did two install types & achieved same result as steps 1 & 2 as Mate (mkukri) in comment #14) At step 3 my usual thing is a 'replace partition' (calamares wording) install using one of the partitions (this is a FORMAT install).. where which partition I use is ~random (usually opting to keep the partition I'll most recognize as untouched; the install where I changed the wallpaper usually so easily recognized).. Any testing of 'install using existing partition' for me would be 4th (or 5th) install almost guaranteed I believe.. My point is it can be triggered in other ways I believe, but again very few users will encounter it... I rarely encountered it! (then again what I listed ^ is what I did today, do most days probably too.. maybe why I've not experienced it much as I suspect i re-use SDA2 most days (& not sda1); ie. changing wallpaper on that first install (of the day) so its recognized on the many installs that usually follow...) I concur with view not a release blocker. -- said by me on #lubuntu-devel (matrix) > It may worthwhile (if not fixed & I doubt it will be) for me to create a page > on [lubuntu]discourse(doco) for users should they encounter this issue ... > to me it's not a big issue; I've only encountered it rarely, it requires > specific conditions I doubt many will encounter.. but could be mentioned in > release notes as well with somewhere we can point users too... -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2060624 Title: lubuntu/xubuntu reinstall (& install) on dual boot system, grub does appear & offer OS choice To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/grub2/+bug/2060624/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 2060624] Re: lubuntu/xubuntu reinstall (& install) on dual boot system, grub does appear & offer OS choice
I completed an install on dc7700 - two systems (noble) exist on drive - boot install media (lubuntu noble RC) - select partition (I selected SDA2, ignoring SDA1) for `/` WITHOUT FORMAT - let it install (this system is OLD, legacy-BIOS so no ESP; Lubuntu's calamares doesn't create one by default for BIOS machine; iso.qa report at https://iso.qa.ubuntu.com/qatracker/milestones/453/builds/300140/testcases/1701/results/) on reboot; two options appeared in grub. - SDA1 was in grub & when booted looked untouched - SDA2 contained new install, file-system system directories all time-stamped mins ago (not hours ago) as expected for new install.. packages I added are present (fortune, clementine etc).. I COULD NOT RE-CREATE THIS ISSUE.. Only difference between this and prior install could have been I selected second partition (SDA2) where last time I selected SDA1?? but I can't see that as making an difference; could it?? Given I've only experienced this issue twice, and could not re-create.. I'd be happy with marking bug as INCOMPLETE.. [Bug 2060624] Re: lubuntu/xubuntu reinstall (& install) on dual boot system, grub does appear & offer OS choice
I have made many installs of various boxes, and exploring logs of the iso.qa.ubu link in comment #3 i see only two references to this issue (within a few days of each other), which include the following --- hp dc7700 (c2d-e6320, 8gb, amd/ati rv610/radeon hd2400 pro/xt) testcase: install using existing partition --- I've made four installs on that box today (https://iso.qa.ubuntu.com/qatracker/milestones/453/builds/300140/testcases/1701/results/) yet did NOT experience the issue. Currently the box has two installs (first was full disk, then auto-resize equiv.. ) so I'll try and repeat the install I made in the next hour+ and see if it occurs. Lubuntu testcases are described here - https://discourse.lubuntu.me/t/testing-checklist-understanding-the- testcases/2743 but an INSTALL USING EXISTING PARTITION means - boot install media - using manual partitioning, selecting an existing partition (for /) BUT DO NOT FORMAT (ie. re-use it...) This is NO longer possible with Xubuntu as FORMAT is now mandatory (due to another bug, scheduled for fix post-release of noble..) I'll add some non-standard packages to one of my installed systems on dc7700 (per testcase; something for installer to re-install), then attempt to re-create this issue & reply back in an hour (or three) and see if it re-occurs... then provide detailed description of what I did (if issue re-occurs).

[Bug 2062428] Re: Install randomly crashes/fails/hangs on systems with 3GB or less
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Please execute the following command only once, as it will automatically gather debugging information, in a terminal: apport-collect 2062428 When reporting bugs in the future please use apport by using 'ubuntu- bug' and the name of the package affected. You can learn more about this functionality at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs. No clues as to product are provided (three flavors use calamares, though Kubuntu is used as example so it maybe Kubuntu but we don't know; is this 24.04? as its not said though mentioned too), nor clues as to what ISO was used, nor package version details. It's likely nothing can be done without this detail; as package versions have changed multiple times in the last few days & no useful data (no logs etc) were provided. Please in future use `ubuntu-bug`... which can be run even from terminal even during operation (or calamares-hang). If your system has already gone (ie. I assume it was LIVE and thus after failure you shutdown box), some detail can be added to the report if you BOOT the same ISO on the SAME HARDWARE and run `apport-collect 2062428` as requested there. This will populate most missing fields, even if no calamares-log will be attached (you'd need to re-run the install & have the same issue to get that). [Bug 2062106] Re: lubuntu noble - snap-seed-glue --seed ..calamares..snapd/seed krita -- failed to finish in 900 seconds
If this isn't changed... Lubuntu (me) could always add a page at https://discourse.lubuntu.me/c/documentation/20 In summary; my install worked; except - the third party packages however were not installed, - the `/var/log/installer` directory did NOT exist thus some metadata was missing from the install etc Users have the option of (a) testing their systems, if it was like mine, everything appeared to work perfectly, and they can just add the 3rd party apps themselves & expect no further problems (they're unlikely to notice the missing metadata anyway) OR (b) restart install WITHOUT 3rd party apps... then reboot into their new install, and add the third party apps themselves. This option will ensure they have all their metadata (ie. in the future can look up what media they used for install, details of install etc, details that would be missing with alternative (a)) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2062106 Title: lubuntu noble - snap-seed-glue --seed ..calamares..snapd/seed krita -- failed to finish in 900 seconds To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/calamares/+bug/2062106/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

This bug is LOW PRIORITY in my view... - not many people will use the INSTALL USING EXISTING PARTITION (non-destructive install) - the error occurs which stops the installer, but most of what is required was already done, so system has booted for me each time I've encountered this error (even if some metadata will be invalid; system has been usable). -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2060429 Title: lubuntu noble - /usr/libexec/fixconkeys-part2 failed to finish in 30 seconds. From there I could see downloads taking place (thru write) & eventually notice `snap download` progress to next page (krita, kf5 etc)... but the installer window remained at 90%.. then eventually 92%... | Many users may assume the installer is 'looping' or dead... 2024-04-16 - 02:17:35 (start of calamares) 2024-04-16 - 12:17:43 (calamares switched to local time I assume) 2024-04-16 - 12:48:06 (end calamares) So ~thirty minutes to install, I didn't let it sit at any dialog.. just selected items & continued... This box may not be quick... but I believe issue is mostly internet speed & what is required to be downloaded.. something we can't do much about it.. Is a release note worth including?? Could a end-user think the install has failed is looping, when in fact it isn't I don't see how we can change anything, as even viewing the messages calamares provides I didn't see progress for near 10 mins... thus why I opened terminal & starting watching progress via `iotop` ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 24.04 Package: calamares 3.3.5-0ubuntu3 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 6.8.0-22.22-generic 6.8.1 Uname: Linux 6.8.0-22-generic x86_64 .etc.calamares.modules.after_bootloader_context.conf: --- dontChroot: false timeout: 120 firmwareType: "*": "-rm ${ROOT}/home/${USER}/Desktop/lubuntu-calamares.desktop" .etc.calamares.modules.finished.conf: --- restartNowMode: user-checked restartNowCommand: "systemctl -i reboot" .etc.calamares.modules.fstab.conf: crypttabOptions: luks,keyscript=/bin/cat efiMountOptions: umask=0077 .etc.calamares.modules.shellprocess_logs.conf: --- dontChroot: true timeout: 30 script: - calamares-logs-helper ${ROOT} .etc.calamares.modules.unpackfs.conf: --- unpack: - source: "/cdrom/casper/filesystem.squashfs" sourcefs: "squashfs" destination: "" ApportVersion: 2.28.0-0ubuntu1 Architecture: amd64 CasperMD5CheckResult: pass CasperVersion: 1.496 CurrentDesktop: LXQt Date: Tue Apr 16 12:48:16 2024 LiveMediaBuild: Lubuntu 24.04 LTS "Noble Numbat" - Beta amd64 (20240415) RelatedPackageVersions: calamares-settings-ubuntu-common 1:24.04.28 calamares-settings-lubuntu 1:24.04.28 xfsprogs 6.6.0-1ubuntu2 btrfs-progs 6.6.3-1.1build2 SourcePackage: calamares UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install) ** Affects: calamares (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: amd64 apport-bug iso-testing noble -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2061711 Title: lubuntu noble - full (inc. 3rd party) install is kinda slow To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/calamares/+bug/2061711/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 2056578] Re: Tor Browser - keyboard not functioning
I'll add another affirmation that what Asciiwolf reports in comment #10 is working for me too on this (my primary) install where I've not had keyboard working for some time (see comment #4; late February 2024) Add line & restart apparmor, and start torbrowser & I can use it for the first time in ages. Thank you Asciiwolf - appreciate the solution. I wonder if the package this bug report is filed against is incorrect; but sorry I don't know. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2056578 Title: Tor Browser - keyboard not functioning To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/torbrowser-launcher/+bug/2056578/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 2060624] Re: lubuntu/xubuntu reinstall (& install) on dual boot system, grub does appear & offer OS choice
I've NOT encountered this issue with a install.alongside (calamares/lubuntu) or the ubuntu-desktop-installer equivalent (auto(resize) testcase)... as both installs (prior + new) appear in GRUB on second install when that is run. This is where it matters most anyway, and it works perfectly. I've only encountered this on manual.partitioning (something-else equivalent) and manually selecting a pre-existing partition for re-use (ubuntu-desktop-install now marks that as with format compulsory)... This will impact very few users.. and can easily be covered by a RELEASE NOTES message if required anyway, as very few users will be impacted by it (most will have no issue dealing with the PROBER edit).. -- Alas the Xubuntu install no longer exists; that install being overwritten by subsequent QA test installs. I'd have to re-create the issue, which won't be tonight... -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2060624 Title: lubuntu/xubuntu reinstall (& install) on dual boot system, grub does appear & offer OS choice To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/grub2/+bug/2060624/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 2060624] Re: lubuntu/xubuntu reinstall (& install) on dual boot system, grub does appear & offer OS choice
The Xubuntu install was an install into one partition (SDA2) where two partitions exist both with OSes (SDA1 & SDA2). The resulting Xubuntu install booted without grub appearing on boot, and no way for a user to boot into prior SDA1 install of Lubuntu noble. Attempt as in original post of `sudo update-grub` reports Warning: os-prober will not be executed to detect other bootable partitions. thus my prior 24.04 system is not offered as boot option. I've NOT encountered this issue with an auto(resize)/install-alongside install, ONLY with something-else/manual-partitioning type of installs.. so its not all installs.
