I have found that occasionally voice over stops working. I just tell

HI Jannet,

Have you tried a three finger double tap on the screen to see if the
speech has been turned off?

Or do a restart of your phone,

Probably the easiest way to do that is

Vol up, vol down and then power button and hold it for about 10 seconds,

It should hopefully do a restart for you.

And with luck you don’t ring them back

Or they may come around for coffee and doughnuts

Hi Everyone,

I was just sitting at my Computer, and I had my phone sitting on my
Computer desk, and for some strange reason my phone started dialing
911 emergency.  911 Emergency called me back 3 times, but I couldn’t
answer the phone.  I used my Magic Jack phone to call 911 to let them
know I am ok.  I tried to stop the Phone from calling, but I can’t
hear Voiceover.  I pressed the volume button up, I tried 3 finger
tapping to turn Voiceover back on, but I still can’t hear anything at
all, except when I turn the phone off I can hear the sound when I
usually turn off the Phone, or when I plug the charger in to the
phone. I can’t get in touch with Siri either.  I  have an iPhone XR

get Voiceover to start talking.

Thank you all in advance.

RE: 911 Calling Help Please.

2022-01-16 Thread janet gross
Hi,
I just talked to a few friends, who said their phones called 911 before, but
they just answered the phone when 911 called back, and they told them they were
fine. But, my phone just kept on calling and calling! I tried several times
to stop the phone, as well as answer, but couldn’t do that either. A friend
just told me she remembered some years ago, there was several problems with
some iPhones dialing 911, I’m not sure if I heard about that one though. I’ve
never heard Police cars sirens from my phone either. I hadn’t even touched the
phone for at least an hour before this happened. It is the strangest thing!
As far as the hey Siri, I’ve never used that, so it isn’t turned on.

I assume the volume has gotten turned down all the way, try to plug in a
headset and see if you can hear Voiceover.
If you can then make sure your phone is unlocked and on the home screen and
Voiceover of course is working with the headset. Then unplug the headset and
press the volume up button repeatedly like maybe 5 or 6 times and if this is
the issue you should hear Voiceover volume coming back up after the first 2 or
3 presses.

2022-01-16 Thread Carolyn
It sounds like one would need to go to Settings to check it, but that would
require sight with the present condition of the phone. I also would check Mute,
just to rule that out.

It can’t be that, the mute switch doesn’t affect voiceover.

I’m surprised the police did not come anyway. I think they should have. My
computer once accidentally dialed 911 & even though I called to say it was a
mistake, the police came. They said that someone could have forced me to call
& say all was fine.

Do you have the Earpods which came with your phone?

I assume the volume has gotten turned down all the way, try to plug in a
headset and see if you can hear Voiceover.

If you can then make sure your phone is unlocked and on the home screen and
Voiceover of course is working with the headset. Then unplug the headset and
press the volume up button repeatedly like maybe 5 or 6 times and if this is
the issue you should hear Voiceover volume coming back up after the first 2 or
3 presses.

I've never heard of an iPhone randomly calling emergency services. Do
you have Hey siri turned on where the phone might have heard something
that might have made it dial? I have asked Siri a question totally
unrelated and it thought I wanted to dial 911.

Do you have the Earpods which came with your phone?

I assume the volume has gotten turned down all the way, try to plug in
a headset and see if you can hear Voiceover.

If you can then make sure your phone is unlocked and on the home
screen and Voiceover of course is working with the headset. Then
unplug the headset and press the volume up button repeatedly like
maybe 5 or 6 times and if this is the issue you should hear Voiceover
volume coming back up after the first 2 or 3 presses.

There's a search button near the top right-hand corner of the screen.
Double-tap that, and an editfield will open. You can type in a video title,
like "Gentle Workout Set" or you can search by a source, referred to as a
channel, such as EyesFreeFitness.
This is one of the channels I subscribe to; I'm just using it as an example.

RE: 911 Calling Help Please.

2022-01-16 Thread janet gross
Sieghard,
This is good to know, and I will definitely keep this in mind. The phone was
fine when I woke up this morning, and I had my phone just sitting on my
Computer desk, and all the sudden, the Voiceover said dialing 911 emergency,
and I even heard sirens from a Police car coming through the phone. So, I
grabbed my phone, and tried to swipe to stop the phone from dialing, and I
couldn’t hear anything else, so I pressed 3 times to turn on Voiceover, so that
must be how I did that. I had to even use my Magic Jack phone to call 911 to
let them know I am fine so don’t send the Police here, as they called me 3
times, but I couldn’t even answer the phone. What a mess, as that hasn’t ever
happened to me before, and I hope it doesn’t happen again though!

Thank you again!

If you heard the clicking sound that means you had speech turned off.
I would actually practice this now that you have it working again, it is quite
possible that maybe you wanted to turn screen curtain on or off, that is a
3-finger triple tap, but if you only tapped twice or it only registered two
3-finger taps, then speech is turned off.
As I said you can practice it and if you don't want to do it for real you can
go to Voiceover Settings into the practice area and do it there.

There are 3 possibilities:

1. Voiceover has been turned off
2. Voiceover is on, but you have turned off speech by accidently doing a
3-finger double tap
3. The volume is turned all the way down

For scenario 1 you can try and press the side button 3 times if you have it set
up to toggle Voiceover on and off or you can press and hold the side button and
say "Siri turn on Voiceover". If Voiceover is already turned on it won't do any
harm, Siri will simply say "Voiceover is already turned on".

For scenario 2 make sure you wake up your screen by pressing the side button
and to a 3-finger double tap, if Voiceover is on but speech was turned off then
if you do a clean 3-finger double tap it will say "Speech On" and all will be
fine.

If it is the third scenario then once again making sure your phone is awake and
repeatedly pressing the side button will raise volume back to where you can
hear Voiceover. You can also press and hold volume up, count to 3 or 4 and by
then volume should be way up.

and to a 3-finger double tap, if Voiceover is on but speech was turned off then
if you do a clean 3-finger double tap it will say "Speech On" and all will be
fine.

If it is the third scenario then once again making sure your phone is awake and
repeatedly pressing the side button will raise volume back to where you can
hear Voiceover. You can also press and hold volume up, count to 3 or 4 and by
then volume should be way up.

This sounds as if the mute switch on the side of the phone is turned on. Try
checking it.

Have you tried a three finger double tap on the screen to see if the speech has

Or do a restart of your phone,
Probably the easiest way to do that is
Vol up, vol down and then power button and hold it for about 10 seconds,
It should hopefully do a restart for you.

And with luck you don’t ring them back

All iPhones until I think the iPhone 12 came with wired Earpods. If you still
have the original box you might want to check as they might be in there. I find
it is virtually essential to have a set of these Earpods around even if it is
just for such situations. Anyways, what happens if you use your Bluetooth
headset, do you get anything there?

I assume the volume has gotten turned down all the way, try to plug in a
headset and see if you can hear Voiceover.
If you can then make sure your phone is unlocked and on the home screen and
Voiceover of course is working with the headset. Then unplug the headset and
press the volume up button repeatedly like maybe 5 or 6 times and if this is
the issue you should hear Voiceover volume coming back up after the first 2 or
3 presses.

Re: Battery pack for the SE 2020

2022-01-16 Thread Kelly Pierce
Sure it is accessible. But the Slim 2 fits in someone’s pocket because
it is 5,000 mA. A 20,000 mA battery is considerably larger and
heavier. As with other accessible products, it is more expensive at
$100 than the Slim 2 at $11. The Slim 2 charges up in two to three
hours if it is fully drained. Charging time is a lot less if Slim 2 is
not at zero.

Clubhouse App

2022-01-16 Thread Debbie Downey
Hi,

I recently checked my profile in the Clubhouse app on my iPhone 8 and it
told me I had 65 followers and was following 60. However, when I looked in
the list of followers; I could only read 41 followers. There are some that
will not show up. I realize that some people have many more followers and
are following many more than I am but is there a way to have them show up
like they used to? I thought that perhaps some people unfollowed me but why
would it still say 65?

Thanks!

Debbie

Re: Questions regarding smart bulbs, and Apps

2022-01-16 Thread Sherrie Gosling
Sorry to be so late with a reply. I ended up getting four of the following
bulbs and found they work beautifully. When I ordered them there was a box to
check so they were preset for my Alexa. There was no other equipment to buy or
App I needed to download. As soon as I installed them and turned them on they
appeared on my Alexa app on my phone. I plan to order a few more now that the
price is back to $9.99 instead of $14.99.

Sengled Smart Bulb, Alexa Light Bulb Bluetooth Mesh, Smart Light Bulbs That
Work with Alexa Only, A19 Dimmable LED Bulb E26, 60W Equivalent Soft White
800LM, Certified for Humans Device, 1 Pack

Re: Using iPhone while in pocket via Hable One!

2022-01-16 Thread Joshua Hendrickson
The hable one is a very simple braille keyboard. I wouldn't bother
with that Rivo2 if you gave me one for free. I heard a presentation
of the Rivo2 and it sounded extremely complicated. The Hable One
isn't that complicated. Someone who is older and knows braille would
have no trouble learning the Hable, whereas the Rivo2 would be much
more difficult.

RE: Weird vibration in iOS 15.to

2022-01-16 Thread richardr_turner
Barbara,

I think what you are dealing with is the “No item discovered” setting under:
settings, accessibility, VoiceOver, Audio, Sounds and Haptics, and there is a
ton of new things you can set sound and haptics for. One of them is No Item
Discovered.

Seem if turning off the haptic in there solves this.

Hi list!

So I finally updated my iphone 8 from IOS 14.08 to 15.2.1 and now I am
experiencing this weird and kind of annoying vibration issue with my phone.

I notice it on the area of the home screen where you switch between pages. I
touch that area and the phone vibrates like crazy. It also does it in the
overdrive app on the player screen and in the app store. I really don't like
it. Is there any way to change or turn off this feature?

I tried going to sounds and haptics in settings but turning haptics off didn't
get rid of this feature. Any other ideas?

RE: Mbraille question

2022-01-16 Thread richardr_turner
Are you using contracted braille?

I’d turn off speak characters.

I use away mode with contracted braille and only have words being echoed.

You also want to check the setting about how much of the display the app is
using.

I don’t remember exactly what it says, but you may be getting slightly out of
the ideal area for writing.

Re: Using iPhone while in pocket via Hable One!

2022-01-16 Thread Joshua Hendrickson
I heard about the Hable One from I think it was the blind apple list
that isn't this list. I was kind of a beta tester for the Hable One
here in the United States. I paid $200 for the device instead of the
usual $250. I don't know if that deal is still going on. The device
is small enough to fit into a pocket. You also don't set it down on a
hard surface like a table top, you hold the device in your hands.
This was a little different at first, but I quickly got used to it. I
really enjoy using my device. I can control the phone and do things
like, go from page to page through my apps, go from the top to the
bottom of the screen, do searches within different apps, and use the
app switcher and get home on whatever page I'm on. The very nice
thing about the Hable is, that it appears on your iPhone not as any
kind of braille device, but a regular bluetooth device, just like any
other device like a speaker or headset. I highly recommend anyone
interested in the Hable One, to visit the website, and to also
download the manual, or the user guide.

And moreover with just press record you can eventually record in stereo.

hi, there is an app called Voice Memos and you can record on this app. There is
also another one called just press record. I never tried that one, but voice
memos is excellent. It's an iPhone app. Hope this helps. Esther

Hi all,

Apologies, this has been discussed several times. But can anyone suggest any
application to record voice calls on the iPhone. Thank you Get Outlook for iOS

Using iPhone while in pocket via Hable One!

2022-01-16 Thread 'Harry Bell' via VIPhone
I have just got a Hable One Braille keyboard which means I can now leave my
iPhone zipped up in my jacket pocket while I’m out and about. One great feature
is that it can wake and unlock the iPhone without delving through coats and
zips. It has several proprietary shortcuts for text editing or interaction
commands and for evoking Siri - otherwise it is a usual pocket-sized Braille
keyboard. It is laid out like a Braille Screen Input keyboard with dots 7 and 8
but no Space bar - for commands, you mostly just long press the keys instead of
adding in the space. I’ve used it for a couple of days and for the out and
about or quick use scenario it is very good. I prefer the Orbit Writer for
writing longer chunks of text and its Perkins layout is less tiring for that
task. Expensive but effective and not many keyboards can wake up and unlock
your iPhone and control all its functions while in your pocket!
