I saw saw a little note about the format of a request
for a permanent key somewhere once, maybe it was in
his readme file. You need to specify the operating
system and some other things. The main thing you need
to specify though is a valid reason why you can't keep
using a key that expires. I hav

This problem isn't related to cdrecord or mkisofs but
since the users of both are familiar with ISO files I
thought maybe somebody would be able to help.
I am using Red Hat 7.3 and Red Hat 8.0 with the latest
patches on several servers and have created a variety
of ISO files using mkisofs. All th
Thanks for the reply. Everything was working fine
though before the hostname change. Why would the
hostname change affect cdrecord? Does cdrecord use the
hostname at all?

If the best guess technique is used that means almost
all the discs would not be filled to capacity. The
data be burned is being kept online via Pioneer
jukeboxes in our data center (700 discs each). Thus
the idea of not filling each disc to its full capacity
means we are not maximizing our use of
I have the same problem. My system is automatically
receiving files over the network and archiving them to
CD-R. I wanted a way to automatically determine in my
own program when the CD-R would be full when selecting
files to be put on the CD-R. For this to be accurate
you need to know the filesyst
I'm using Red Hat 7.2 with kernel 2.4.3-12 and have 8
instances of cdrecrod burning all at the same time
with no problem. The only thing I do is sleep for a
couple seconds after starting each copy. Obviously you
need an I/O system capable of handling all the data at
once for each burner. I'm runni
The following link is to a DVD comparison guide, it
explicitly states which DVD players support CD-R +
CD-RW (plus whether or not it plays MP3s if
interested). Unfortunately it covers just new models
only.

.
You should note that not all DVD players support VCD
discs, in addition to that not all DVD players support
CD-R or CD-RW discs. So be sure your player supports
both CD-R and VCD. You have to check your player's
documentation to see. Most low end players I've seen
don't support CD-Rs.
What adapter did you use with the A03?

Once again I appreciate everyone's input. I agree
ATAPI can be used for certain scenarios and it can
work well. Since in the future I will be burning discs
with some sort of medium changer (jukebox) and I will
be burning multiple DVD-Rs simultaneously (via
multiple drives) IDE is just not a soluti
Thats not what I am claiming. I am just stating that
since the IDE bus and hard drive is under such a heavy
usage already that adding an extra 4.7 GB of
throughput to another IDE device on the bus could
possibly result in an increase in buffer underrun
errors. I am afraid the bus would get so busy
anyone knows more please share.

I have been using the Pioneer S201 DVD-R drive with
the cdrecord (pro) software. To date, the drive and
the software have performed flawlessly. I am using the
drive and cdrecord for the long term archival of data
files on my linux servers, I am just making a big ISO
file with mkisofs and burning i
I am burning on Red Hat 7.1 with the Plextor 12/10/32S drive (with the
latest firmware updates). I am consistantly getting errors, about one out of

speed of the burn to 2 (via speed=2 on the command line) cdrecord still e
