Thinking begets trouble. While reading the "KXAT1" manual. Pages 9 & 10
show a random length wire antenna system using a "POMONA 1296 BNC to
Dual Binding post adapter (mouser #565-1296 $11.83 or jameco #99354
$5.29). To my way of thinking ( here comes the trouble) 3 resonate wires

different archives.
The one on qth.net is -not- searchable.
The one on ac6rm.net is more advanced and -is- searchable by keyword.

Do I need a mic pre amp or do I just set the jumpers for a standard kwd.

There were a number of external RF speech processor products
available in the early 80s. I can't find the schematic for my Kenpro
KP-601, but popping the cover I see something potentially
home-brewable (all this discussion drove me to find it, as after
changing compression ratios of the KSB2's co

I might believe 3.75 volts or above may be OK, but if you have run out of
adjustment range at 3.3 volts, something is wrong.
First, check the voltage out of your 8 volt regulator (Control Board U4).
If it is OK, look at the schematic for the Control Board (lower left corner)

Don't worry much about it - I would bet that someone at Elecraft will be
getting SN 5000 - maybe Wayne - the plan was that he was to get SN 1000 (or
was it 2000), but that fell thru, so I would guess that Wayne is due for a
new one. I don't have any inside info here - just an 'off the cuff' guess.
I found my Kenwood MC-60 mic is wired perfectly pin to pin if you leave out
the base holder with the pre-amp in it.
The on/off switch on the mic it self works for PTT with lock. I seem to
have plenty of millivolts to drive the k2 into ALC COMPRSSION.
