Re: v17 conundrum in design

2019-02-07 Thread Alberto Bachler via 4D_Tech
Chuck

I experienced this behavior from time to time since v16r2 (and maybe even v15)
I believe can happen when 2 or more instances of 4D are running at the same
time

Last time was yesterday (macOS)
I restarted my Mac and everything came back to normality

Cordialmente,

Alberto

Neil and Steve - you both were correct - there was a 4D Server service running
that had been created since the last reboot many months ago.
Thanks to you both for the fast and accurate response!!

Do you have ALP's auto-trace logic turned on? It is a nice feature that opens
the debugger if ALP encounters a problem, which may be what you are seeing.

2019-02-07 Thread Drew Waddell via 4D_Tech
We call these phantom breakpoints. It's been a bug for so so long. The only
way I have figured out how to fix it is to create a new User in Design ->
Toolbox -> Users and begin to use the new user until the issue presents itself
again. For what it's worth we started to notice them a lot when we start using
the line separator character "\". I believe there have been taow tickets that
have gone nowhere in the past.

Subject: Bug in SMTP methods in 4D Internet Commands plugin

I've discovered a bug in the 4D Internet Commands SMTP methods. If the message
subject contains the text "changed by", there won't be any errors returned but
the e-mail will not be sent.

I've tested it on the following versions, all running on macOS 10.13.6
   * 4D 16.3HF4 64-bit, 4D Internet Commands 16.3 build 16.224100
   * 4D 16.4 64-bit build 16.226553, 4D Internet Commands 16.4 build 16.226553
   * 4D 16.4 32-bit build 16.226553, 4D Internet Commands 16.4 build 16.226553
   * 4D 17.0 build 17.225365

I've also tested it running under Windows server.

I've tested it on different machines, using different SMTP servers, on
different networks. Same result. I find it hard to believe that having "changed
by" in the message subject would cause the e-mail to not be sent, but my
testing shows otherwise. Still, I've enclosed a small method below, and I'd
appreciate it if others could try it out and let everyone know the result
(you'll need to set the variables for the STMP server, addresses, and
username/password if your SMTP server needs authentication).

This is a weird one. I'm assuming it's caused by some old debugging code that
was left in place, but who knows.

Thanks,
Ben Kershaw

Subject: Urgent! Port conflict - 4D Server

On a Windows 7 box running 4D Server v15, I rebooted the computer today and
found, when I restarted 4D Server and tried to open the database (or a brand
new database), I get this error:
"Failed to launch DB4D Server. Please make sure that the port assigned to the
DB4D Server is not used by another application." When I click Continue I get
"Failed to create a listening socket."

I tried opening the database in 4D, but got a message asking if I wanted to
open it in read only mode. If I say yes, I am not able to get into the design
environment in order to get into Database Settings in order to try changing the
port numbers for the application server, web server, SQL server.

I tried repairing both the structure and data files, trashing the 4D and 4D
Server Preferences files, and reinstalling 4D Server. No luck. I also user the
Unlocker utility to check to see if the data files are falsely locked. They're
not.

If you know of a solution to this problem, please email me directly:
drose...@gmail.com.

TIA,
David

Correction: l10n_develop is where the PR initiates from. It might be nice
to squash a few of those.

Develop. Check the "New Crowdin Translations" PR - so far 2,847 commits.
It was updating multiple times per second. It looks like it may have
finally stopped.

Wow, this is really bizarre. Lots and lots of screenshots added to the
repo, one commit at a time.

Re: Closing a window with another application in focus

2019-02-07 Thread Jeffrey Kain via 4D_Tech
Kirk/Albert Brooks pointed me in the right direction -- if you open the window
with Open Form Window, then the behavior is just automatic. If you open the
window with Open Window, then you need to enable the On Close Box event and
write a handler for that event.

64-bit seems pickier/more consistent than 32-bit.

Re: How to display read-only input form

2019-02-07 Thread Koen Van Hooreweghe via 4D_Tech
Hi Jim,

Have you tried MODIFY SELECTION instead of MODIFY RECORD?
Set the table in read only mode, make sure only the requested record is in the
current selection and then open the record using MODIFY SELECTION. Without the.
optional * parameters, this command should open it immediately in the input
form for a one record selection.
If I remember correctly, no lock alert will be shown.

Otherwise you might try to use an error handler to get rid of the alert.

If a field is set to focusable but not enterable, the user can't edit the
content, but will be able to select and copy.
