Re: [AI] Madras High Court: No quota job if cut-off isn't met
I don't know why, but there are conflicting opinion of the courts on this point. Of course they cann't compromise with the quality of the education but some relaxation should be available for reserve catagories in comparision to general candidates. The equality should be seen among equals and not amongst unequals. On 7/16/13, avinash shahi shahi88avin...@gmail.com wrote: 16th July 2013 09:19 AM http://newindianexpress.com/cities/chennai/No-quota-job-if-cut-off-isnt-met/2013/07/16/article1685816.ece The Madras High Court on Monday rejected a plea from K Kumaravelu of Marudhur South village in Nagapattinam district, praying for a direction to Teacher Recruitment Board (TRB) to appoint him as a secondary grade teacher under the priority quota for physically-disabled persons. After passing the higher secondary examination, Kumaravelu, belonging to a backward class community, completed diploma in teacher education, in 2009. During his school days, he met with an accident and his right leg below the knee had been amputated. He was issued a certificate by the joint director, Medical and Rural Health and Family Welfare in Nagai, fixing his disability at 60 per cent. He also appeared for the TET and obtained 83 per cent marks. The petitioner contended that against the total vacancy of 12,000 posts, 3 per cent of 360 posts had to be earmarked for the disabled under Sec 33 of the Person with Disability Act, 1995. Very few candidates were selected under this section. Hence, he must be given accommodation, after giving relaxation in the requirement of 90 per cent marks, he pleaded. Additional Government Pleader P Sanjay Gandhi submitted that the minimum eligibility marks under the Act was 90 per cent. No person could claim any relaxation in the matter, he added. -- Avinash Shahi MPhil Research Scholar Centre for the Study of Law and Governance Jawaharlal Nehru University New Delhi India Register at the dedicated AccessIndia list for discussing accessibility of mobile phones / Tabs on: http://mail.accessindia.org.in/mailman/listinfo/mobile.accessindia_accessindia.org.in Search for old postings at: http://www.mail-archive.com/accessindia@accessindia.org.in/ To unsubscribe send a message to accessindia-requ...@accessindia.org.in with the subject unsubscribe. Dear bhavesh, here i strongly recommend you to do thum impression instead of doing the normal signeture specially in banking related issues such as withdrawing your amount. Doing signeture as sighted may lead you to an undesirable issues in the future! -Original message- From: harish Sent: 15/07/2013, 9:34 pm To: accessindia@accessindia.org.in Subject: Re: [AI] A bank related query Hi You can certainly change your signature. You can ask the branch to provide you with the signature change card . It is better to sign if you are able to keep the consistency. Harish Kotian - Original Message - From: BHAVESH charmingbhav...@gmail.com To: accessindia accessindia@accessindia.org.in Sent: Monday, July 15, 2013 2:22 PM Subject: [AI] A bank related query Hi Friends, I have a query with regards to doing the signature. Firstly, is that possible to modify my current signature (which is currently thum impression)? Actually i am a totally blind person, and I want to sign every time i do any bank related activity, such as withdrawing the amount. The people in the concerned branch of SBI say, that I can't do any signature, as i am totally blind. And that's the reason they are not excepting my current pan card, which has my full signature. My understanding is, that if one feels confertabel to sign, then why isn't he or she allowed to do so? Thanks in advance, Bhavesh. -- with best regards, Bhavesh. There are mentions of paralympics and special olympics and sports for hearing/visually impaired persons, but there are no special provisions as much for their promotion and development. There is the constitution of a National Olympic Committee, which in turn will recognize existing national federations. To my mind the Bill loses out on a lot with regard to disability-specific sports (which is the UNCRPD recognized term) in India. The Bill only recognizes the Paralympics and the Special Olympics, whereas there is also the Deaflympics, the Special Commonwealth Games, the Asian Para Games, the International Wheelchair and Amputee Sports World Games and other sports which are recognized by the Cerebral Palsy International Sports and Recreation Association, the International Committee of Sports for the Deaf, the International Blind Sports Federation, and other internationally recognized organizations. India has several federations for disability-specific sportshttp://paralympicindia.org.in/federations.php, however, they seem to have gotten themselves involved in some controversies http://articles.timesofindia.indiatimes.com/2010-07-15/others/28304536_1_office-bearers-sports-ministry-escort (note: this is a 2010 report) because they, like other mainstream federations, are being managed by persons without disabilities and without knowledge of sports, and are highly politicized. One possible idea is to ask for a separate parallel body to handle disability-specific sports in India and India's representation at the international level. Usually I am more of a fan of the inclusive model, but somehow in this instance I feel we need some focused attention. We need, for example, a National Paragames with as much excitement as the paralympics or other international tournament. Though it is difficult to find a dealer for these recorders in India, you can directly order from their wwebsite or once check with the dealers listed on their site if they have that particular product. Re: [AI] Want to ban face book in my pc
Friend, It seems to be beyond my knowledge. It sounds very strange. Then one more thing. Sometimes softwares like Deep freeze might have been installed in the system. This software can freeze a selected drive/folder. That means no change in the file will be saved. People install it to protect the system from malwares. Sometimes that might be the reason why the change is not getting saved. Can you tell me whether you save any file in My documents? If Deep freeze has been installed in the system to freeze c drive, whenever you save a file in my documents the file would not be there once the system is restarted. If this is not the reason some other member of the list would help you. The trick worked in the case of Moheb sir and Bijoy sir. So the problem is not with the I.P address. regards, Ratheesh On 7/16/13, TS Negi ts.negi...@gmail.com wrote: Hi sir, what I several times write in the last line of that notepad file is: 127.0.0.1 facebook.com I all the time save it but when I open it again, it disappears from there every time. Re: [AI] Problem with battery of Del inspiran laptop
HI, I checked out with an alternative adapter, and the battery is not charging. DEL technical support says that I need to replace the battery. But google search on this issue tells that there might be the problem of the DC(charging system in the machine) also. If I buy the battery and the problem persists, what is to be done? [AI] The Argus II Retinal Prosthesis (Bionic Eye) to Be Offered in 12 US Implantation Centers
Second Sight Medical Products, Inc. http://2-sight.eu/en/home-en, of Sylmar, California, has announced that its Argus® II Retinal Prosthesis System http://2-sight.eu/en/system-overview-en, also called the artificial retina or bionic eye, will be offered in 12 implantation centers across the United States to treat patients with severe to profound retinitis pigmentosa http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/ency/article/001029.htm(RP). The mission of Second Sight is to develop, manufacture, and market implantable visual prosthetics to enable blind individuals to achieve greater independence. In preparation for the launch of Argus II later this year, these initial 12 implantation centers will begin to accept consultations with patients who have RP. The centers will be located in Ann Arbor, MI; Atlanta, GA; Baltimore, MD; Chicago, IL; Cleveland, OH; Dallas, TX; Durham, NC; Los Angeles, CA; Miami, FL; Nashville, TN; Philadelphia, PA; and San Francisco, CA. Some Background: Argus II Development On February 14, 2013, Second Sight Medical Products, Inc.http://2-sight.eu/en/home-enreceived approval from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for the Argus II Retinal Prosthesis System http://2-sight.eu/en/system-overview-en. The Argus II has been approved to treat adults with severe to profound RP, a rare, inherited degenerative disease that damages light-sensitive cells in the retinahttp://www.visionaware.org/section.aspx?FolderID=6SectionID=116DocumentID=5787, resulting in decreased vision at night or in low light; loss of side (peripheral) vision; and loss of central vision as the disease progresses. At present, there is no cure for RP. The retina is the light-sensitive tissue that lines the inside surface of the eye. Cells in the retinal tissue convert incoming light into electrical impulses. These electrical impulses are carried by the optic nerve to the brain, which finally interprets them as visual images. The Argus II is not a cure for RP; instead, it is intended to replace the function of the light-sensing cells that have been damaged and/or degraded by the disease. The Argus II device consists of the following components: - a small video camera - a transmitter mounted on a pair of eyeglasses - a video processing unit (VPU) - an artificial retina (the implanted retinal prosthesis, which is an array of electrodes) The video camera images are transformed into electronic data by the VPU that sends signals to a wireless receiver implanted in the eye (the retinal prosthesis electrodes). The electrodes allow the electronic signals to bypass the damaged retina and transmit directly to the brain, where they are interpreted as visual images. The cost of the Argus II is approximately $150,000; additional fees include the implantation surgery and training to use the device. The Second Site website provides an illustrated system overview, including a video animationhttp://2-sight.eu/en/how-is-argus-r-ii-designed-to-produce-sight-en . Who Is Eligible for the Argus II? The Argus II is implanted in a single eye, typically the worse-seeing eye. It is indicated for use in persons with severe to profound RP who meet the following criteria http://2-sight.eu/en/important-safety-information-en-hp : - Age 25 or older - Have bare light or no light perception in both eyes: *Bare light perception* is the ability to perceive light, but not the direction from which the light is coming. If the person has no residual light perception, then evidence of intact inner layer retina function must be confirmed. - A previous history of useful form vision - Be aphakic or pseudophakic: *Aphakic* means that the eye is lacking its natural lens. *Pseudophakic* means that the eye has been fitted with an artificial lens implanthttp://www.visionaware.org/section.aspx?FolderID=6SectionID=112DocumentID=5682(as in cataract surgeryhttp://www.visionaware.org/section.aspx?FolderID=6SectionID=112DocumentID=5680) to replace the missing or surgically removed natural lens. - If the person is *phakic* (i.e., has a natural lens or an artificial lens implant) prior to the Argus II implant surgery, the lens will be removed during the implant procedure. - Be willing and able to receive the recommended post-implant clinical follow-up, device fitting, and visual rehabilitation. The Argus II FDA Approval The FDA approved the Argus II as a humanitarian use devicehttp://www.fda.gov/ForIndustry/DevelopingProductsforRareDiseasesConditions/DesignatingHumanitarianUseDevicesHUDS/default.htm, an approval pathway limited to those devices that treat or diagnose fewer than 4,000 people in the United States each year. To obtain approval under this designation, a company must demonstrate a reasonable assurance that the device is safe and that its probable benefit outweighs the risk of illness or injury. The company also must show that there is no comparable device available to treat or diagnose the
