Re: [AI] how to read marathi pdf document such as govt grs etc?

2014-07-30 Thread Him Prasad Gautam
hi,
By principle; if the pdf reader system is installed in the machine,
screen readers like Jaws or nvda read them.
But one thing must be clear.
The pdf text must be in Marathi Unicode.
If the document is composed in traditional Marathi fonts; any screen
reader can not read them. If non-uni code fonts are used; the screen
reader will read them in meaningless way. Instead saying the proper
letter/words, it will say the name of the key which was pressed while
typing them.

There is no solution of these texts.

[AI] Queery related to extra premium being paid

2014-07-30 Thread Giri Prasad
Dear all,
I have a queery related to extra premium being paid on PLI.
In the year 2009 I took a policy for thirty years duration. The actual
premium is rs. 255. Since I am a visually challenged person, rs. 60
has been imposed as extra premium and since then I am paying rs. 315
as premium. Today I approached the post office and I was told that I
must continue with the same premium and there will be no reduction on
the policies taken before 2013.
He also told me that extra premium will be exempted only for the
policies taken from 2013.
I will be paying rs. 22 thousand towards extra premium.
In the light of the judgement, I would like to know what about the
extra premium being paid on the policies taken before 2013.
Legal experts kindly respond.

Re: [AI] query related to the eligibility criteria of scribe

2014-07-30 Thread Aravind R
hai madam, there is a line saying another candidate should not be a
scribe. it includes bankers also who should have gone through these
exams and get job. so according to rules, bankers and other candidates
should not be brought as scribe.
but cheating is posible also and decision is ours to cheat or not. but
the spirit behind that line is existing bank employees and other
candidates should not be the scribe.

Subject: Re: [AI] query related to the eligibility criteria of scribe

hi harshvardhan

I am pasting the scribe rules here which is posted on IBPS website in
PO 2014 recruitment:

Guidelines for Scribe

The visually impaired candidates and candidates whose writing speed is
affected by cerebral palsy can use their own scribe at their cost
during the written examination. In all such cases where a scribe is
used, the following rules will apply:

1. . The candidate will have to arrange his own scribe at his/her own
cost.

2. . The scribe may be from any academic stream.

3. . Both the candidate as well as scribe will have to give a suitable
undertaking confirming that the scribe fulfils all the stipulated
eligibility criteria for a scribe mentioned above. Further in case it
later transpires that he/she did not fulfill any laid down eligibility
criteria or suppressed material facts the candidature of the applicant
will stand cancelled, irrespective of the result of the written
examination.

4. . Those candidates who use a scribe shall be eligible for
compensatory time of 20 minutes for every hour of the examination.

5. . The same scribe cannot be used by more than one candidate. In
addition the scribe arranged by the candidate should not be a
candidate for the examination (CWE PO/MT-IV). If violation of the
above is detected at any stage of the process, candidature for CWE of
both the candidate and the scribe will be cancelled.
Candidates eligible for and who wish to use the services of a scribe
in the examination should invariably carefully indicate the same in
the online application form. Any subsequent request may not be
favourably entertained.

Guidelines for candidates

(i) with locomotor disability and cerebral palsy
An extra time of twenty minutes per hour shall be permitted for the
candidates with locomotor disability and cerebral palsy where dominant
(writing) extremity is affected to the extent of slowing the
performance of function (minimum of 40% impairment), although, no
scribe shall be permitted to such candidates.

(ii) Visually Impaired candidates
1. . Visually Impaired candidates (who suffer from not less than 40%
of disability) may opt to view the contents of the test in magnified
font and all such candidates will be eligible for compensatory time of
20 minutes for every hour of examination.

2. . The facility of viewing the contents of the test in magnifying
font will not be available to Visually Impaired candidates who use the
services of a Scribe for the examination.

These guidelines are subject to change in terms of GOI guidelines/
clarifications, if any, from time to time.

And there is not any rule that declares that we cann't take a present
banker as a scribe.

[AI] For schools to be safe:: Bharti Ali and Enakshi Ganguly

2014-07-30 Thread avinash shahi
http://indianexpress.com/article/opinion/columns/for-schools-to-be-safe/99/
They must follow some protective protocols that are standard and mandatory.

On December 17, 2012, exactly a day after the Delhi gangrape case that
shook the country, a three-year-old girl was taken to the toilet of
her play school in Delhi and raped by the owner-principal's husband.
She is not the only child violated in a space considered to be the
safest space for children after their homes -- the school. This ugly
reality has come to light once again with a six-year-old being
sexually abused in a school in Bangalore. Every report specified that
it took place at an "elite school", as if such incidents only take
place among the poor and this was new. The reality is that child
sexual abuse cuts across class, religion, education or ethnicity. It
can happen anywhere, including within families. It is imperative that
we recognise this and put checks and balances in place.

It is not as if sexual abuse in schools is a new phenomenon. If we
look back at our own school days, there was likely a member of the
staff who made us uncomfortable. Our discomfort was unaddressed then
and this is the case even today, due to a conspiracy of silence around
sexual violence and abuse. Abuse is reported even less in the case of
schools because of the power relations between educational
institutions and students, more so if the parents are poor and
illiterate. So we must welcome that some parents are coming out to
complain.

It is not easy for parents and children to find the courage to
complain, given the cycle of violence they face. Many child survivors
and their families are asked by landlords to vacate their homes.
Instead of cooperating with children and helping them cope with the
trauma, children are subtly pushed out of school. Changing schools is
even harder. Traumatised by the abuse, most survivors fall behind in
academics, making admission to another school difficult unless the
principal is apprised of the circumstances and admission sought on
sympathetic grounds, hoping confidentiality will be respected. The
system of investigation and judicial process expects the child to
recollect and repeat the sequence of events several times, leading to
re-victimisation. Little surprise then that parents and child victims
choose to keep quiet.

Despite new laws and stringent punishment, there is an increase in
sexual crime and little deterrence. For instance, two years on, the
December 17 case is still to be decided. We are told that the courts
set up under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012
(POCSO) are "special courts", while those under the criminal amendment
act of 2012 are "fast-track courts". Are special courts not meant to
be fast track?

Poor investigation by the police, lack of adequate victim and witness
protection, intrusive and unreliable medical examination, lack of
special public prosecutors, poor quality of legal aid and, most
importantly, a lack of courts having exclusive charge of POCSO cases
are important factors affecting prosecution and resulting in poor
conviction rates. Justice becomes more difficult as children do not
have the proper legal vocabulary to express their agony, more so if
the child has a disability.

With increased reporting of such incidents and the fear of a loss of
reputation, school managements shy away from either admitting or
taking responsibility. In many ways, child sexual abuse in schools is
custodial rape, and hence an aggravated offence. This is clearly
recognised by the POCSO act, which has a clause for mandatory
reporting, supposedly introduced to address the reluctance of
institutions to take responsibility. There must be mandatory standard
protective protocols, whose violation would lead to penal action, to
make schools safe.

The Delhi Commission for Protection of Child Rights (DCPCR) developed
a set of guidelines for the prevention of child abuse last year. It
lays down what schools must do to protect children from sexual abuse
through protocols that need to be followed for the recruitment of
staff, and details the capacity-building and child protection
standards that need to be in place. Primary among them is the framing
of a child protection policy applicable to all persons employed by the
institution and even visitors. Most importantly, it calls for the
setting up of a complaints mechanisms for children, parents and
guardians, and appropriate training and orientation for them on the
institution's protection policy and mechanisms to complain.

Rule 31 of the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children)
Rules, 2007 requires that every school and other educational
institutions abide by guidelines issued by the Centre and the states
for the prevention of sexual abuse of children. The Delhi government
framed its own rules in 2009, as have some others. On February 13,
2013, in HAQ: Centre for Child Rights vs Union of India, the Delhi
High Court directed the state to frame guidel

dear sir, i do not think that its a internal or confidencial circular,
infact this is a general one issued with regard to comply reservation
policy under pwd act and available on some websites like eyeway. Gautam
agarwal.

Dear Gautam sir,

That is an internal circular of SBI. So, I think it is not fair to
share it freely unless you got hold of it through an RTI application.
the document shared by our members on this thread through drop box
links is as good as this one of SBI.

If they allow existing banker, they could rather ask that fellow to write
that exam on your behalf. But many are doing that without the examiner's

Re: [AI] query related to the eligibility criteria of scribe

2014-07-30 Thread Mohit Gupta
hi harshvardhan

I am pasting the scribe rules here which is posted on IBPS website in
PO 2014 recruitment:

Guidelines for Scribe

The visually impaired candidates and candidates whose writing speed is
affected by cerebral palsy can use their own scribe at their cost
during the written examination. In all such cases where a scribe is
used, the following rules will apply:

1. . The candidate will have to arrange his own scribe at his/her own cost.

Re: [AI] I need a good daizy player for my laptop

2014-07-30 Thread BIKRAMADITYA BEHERA
Hello,
there is a DAISY player application called FSReader 2.0 or 3.0 comes
bundled with JAWS 11.0 or higher and JAWS 15 respectively. If You find the
user interface and functionality of this application as convenient, you may
consider using it. apart from this, there is another application called TAB
player which you may also prefer. But it can only play DAISY 2.0 file
format. While moving sections by sections, this application will play your
default windows start navigation sound which can cause a bit of irritation.
You can disable the sound for the start navigation event in the control
panel in order to avoid the frequent playing of such sounds.
Regards
Bikram
