I'm not pin pointing any associations or any particular organisations here,
but most of them are sugar quoted thieves, in my opinion. They advertise as
they are doing plenty of voluntary services for the disabled but if we watch
them keenly, many of them are seeking for their own profit in this as well.
I can even say this to some associations which are being driven by the blind
as well.

No, I haven't misunderstood, Madhumitha.

As you rightly said Organizational and universities are doing so well in
Delhi and not in most of the other regions. I think in Delhi, it's our
own friends with blindness who pushed authorities to work effectively.
And all of us should do the same in our own regions.

The web-portal, launched few days ago, is an interactive website,

An initiative of the Department of Disability Affairs, the portal has
a

collection of products required for people

disabilities.

Presently, differently-abled people are left with limited options to
buy

devices such as camps organised by the ministry

in different parts of the country

or by visiting the institutes run by the ministry, where such products
are

available.

This is an ordeal for them in the backdrop of difficulties in mobility
and

time consumed for delivery of products,

officials said.

persuasion and advocacy. Few days ago I already shared with this list that
bank’s customer head agreed to upload list in public domain. Now talking ATM
locations list is up and can be access at
https://www.online.citibank.co.in/customerservice/branch-atm-locations.htm

Citibank has now 100 and more talking ATMs across India. On
http://talkingatmindia.org/ we already have 52 locations. Very soon all new
locations will be uploaded for easy search by PIN code or area name.

Thank you.

If one desires a change, then the best person to initiate the change
process is the person himself/herself with the desire. We can be the change
agent. NGOs are also driven by people like us and if they cannot make a
difference, let us step up to the plate and drive the change. They too are
volunteering their time and effort, we can do the same. No point in being
critical of anyone.

No, I haven't misunderstood, Madhumitha.

As you rightly said Organizational and universities are doing so well in
Delhi and not in most of the other regions. I think in Delhi, it's our own
friends with blindness who pushed authorities to work effectively. And all
of us should do the same in our own regions.

Hi,

1. Grab the *.pst file in Outlook. It contains your contacts and e-mail
messages. This assumes you are using pop. If you are using IMAP, then you need
to backup a different file. See slipstick.com for details.
2. You can copy the file to any location on your computer and point Outlook to
that file.
3. As for favorites, copy the favorites folder under your user profile and copy
it back once you upgrade.
4. I cannot comment on outlook's account settings.

Subject: [AI] fyi PWDs may now buy assistive devices online

Indeed some positive step .

PWDs may now buy assistive devices online

NEW DELHI: Persons with Disabilities may no longer have to wait for
public

camps in their localities to purchase assistive

devices, as these would now

be delivered at their door steps with just a click of a button.

The government is planning to rope in e-retailers to sell assistive
products

to Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) by

linking its web-portal, consisting

of directory of such products, with

online

retailers. The PWDs can then buy it online.

It would also open the window of convenience shopping for the
differently-abled people since they can compare the

specifications of products by different

manufacturers.

"We would be soon linking our recently launched web-portal comprising
the

directory of aids and

assistive devices

for PWDs with online retailers. Differently-abled persons can compare
the

products from different manufacturers and place

orders," Awanish Kumar Awasthi,

Joint Secretary, Department of Disability Affairs, Ministry of Social
Justice and Empowerment told PTI.

The web-portal, launched few days ago, is an interactive website,
www.swavlamban.info which contains a list of different

assistive technology products

being sold in the country and a few internationally available products.

An initiative of the Department of Disability Affairs, the portal has a
collection of products required for people

suffering from

Autism,

Cerebral Palsy, hearing, speech and visual impairments and multiple
disabilities.

Presently, differently-abled people are left with limited options to buy
devices such as camps organised by the ministry

in different parts of the country

or by visiting the institutes run by the ministry, where such products
are

available.

This is an ordeal for them in the backdrop of difficulties in mobility
and

time consumed for delivery of products,

officials said.

"For instance, if a visually impaired person wants to buy a low vision
device from

National Institute for the Visually Handicapped,

he has to travel all the way to Dehradun. But, once the e-commerce
facility

is being activated with the website, it will be

just a click of a button,"

they said.

Official sources further said that Aadhar card would be made mandatory
for

availing the products through the web portal,

in a bid to ensure that the devices

that are sold reach the right persons.

[AI] Quota for persons with disabilities; SC seeks DoPT's response

2014-12-08 Thread M Sivakumar
Last Updated: Sunday, December 7, 2014 - 09:29
28
New Delhi: The Supreme Court has sought the Centre's response on an
NGO's plea seeking initiation of contempt proceedings for not
complying with an earlier order of three per cent quota in jobs to
persons with disabilities.
The bench of justices Ranjan Gogoi and RF Nariman issued show cause
notice to the Secretary of the Department of Personal and Training
(DoPT). It, however, exempted the officer from personal appearance
before the court.
The bench was hearing the plea filed by NGO National Federation for
Blind through senior advocate SK Rungta.
The NGO has said that DoPT has issued an office memorandum for
providing 3 per cent reservation to persons with disabilities and said
the posts have to be computed against the total number of vacancies in
the cadre strength to be filled up through direct recruitment in group
A and B posts.
"This amendment in the office memorandum was not in accordance with
the direction of the court," the plea said.
The NGO alleged that other clauses, which were also to be amended to
comply with the court's directions, have not been changed
"intentionally and deliberately".
Most of the clauses relate to quantum of reservation and maintenance
of roster etc, it said.
It said the DoPT also did not take steps for filling up vacancies, to
be calculated against the reservation for persons with disabilities,
adopting the manner of computation in terms of court's directions
within a period of three months.
The NGO has also sought direction to the DoPT to ensure "strict and
timely compliance" of court's earlier order to revive a committee for
undertaking a centralised special recruitment drive for clearing up
the backlog reserved vacancies for such persons.
The court, in an order passed on October 8, 2013, had provided
separate one per cent reservation for each of the three categories of
persons with disabilities namely persons suffering from blindness and
low vision, persons suffering from hearing disability and persons
suffering from locomotor disability or cerebral palsy respectively.

[AI] Citibank India 100+ Talking ATM locations

2014-12-08 Thread Prashant Naik
Dear All,

Very pleased to share that Citibank India has now published its list of
talking ATMs on its corporate website. This is a success of Talking ATM
India’s persuasion and advocacy. Few days ago I already shared with this
list that bank’s customer head agreed to upload list in public domain. Now
talking ATM locations list is up and can be access at
https://www.online.citibank.co.in/customerservice/branch-atm-locations.htm

Citibank has now 100 and more talking ATMs across India. On
http://talkingatmindia.org/ we already have 52 locations. Very soon all
new locations will be uploaded for easy search by PIN code or area name.

Thank you.

[AI] Google is killing CAPTCHA - No thought spared for VIs

2014-12-08 Thread Ekinath Khedekar
Google is killing CAPTCHA as we know it | The Verge

http://www.theverge.com/2014/12/3/7325925/google-is-killing-captcha-as-we-know-it

If you've signed up for an account recently, you've probably seen it:
a quick test that gives you a few distorted words and asks you to type
them back
in plaintext. The official name is CAPTCHA, a test designed to weed
out the automated scripts used for spam, but it's been broken for a
long time. Google
recently showed off a system that could crack it 99.8 percent of the
time, and most spammers are happy to run their scripts knowing just
one in ten will
slip through. But even though everyone knows CAPTCHA is broken, there
hasn't been a clear idea of what might replace it.

This morning, Google is unveiling the best answer yet.
It's called No-CAPTCHA,
a new approach built on a new API, and it's already been adopted by
Snapchat, Wordpress and Humble Bundle, among other partners. Instead
of asking users
to pass a test, Google's new system pre-screens each user's behavior
and filters out anyone who's easily identifiable as human. Most users
will simply
see a check mark -- click the box and you've passed the test -- while
anyone marked as suspicious will be given a more elaborate test.

Sometimes, that test will be the same old text-recognition problem --
but sometimes it will be something new. Google is experimenting with
more mobile-friendly
forms of CAPTCHA, like a test that would show you a picture of a cat
and asked you to select similar photos from a grid. (Data collected in
this way would
also be used to improve Google's Image Search,
continuing the practice from previous tests.)
As the project progresses, we'll see even more versions of the test,
built on top of the new, more flexible API.

Google engineers said the pre-screening would look at factors like IP
addresses and time spent on page, but were cagey about exactly what
information would
be used, citing concerns that spammers would manipulate algorithms in
response. The pre-screening also varies widely from site to site: just
over 80 percent
of Humble Bundle visitors were cleared in advance, but for WordPress
at large, that number dropped to 60 percent. It depends on the
visitors, but also
on the site's general arrangement and how clear a signal it's sending
along to Google.

The old API will remain active, and many sites may decline to upgrade,
but the overall effect will be a lot less deciphering text for the
average web user
-- and hopefully less spam. It's also an interesting take on the
modern web, where widespread monitoring has made passive behavioral
identification more
effective than active testing. These days, the easiest way to tell a
user is human isn't to ask them questions, but to see how they act.

Re: [AI] India's World Cup triumph!

2014-12-08 Thread avinash shahi
Certainly, Indian blind cricketers played very impressively and have
made the entire nation proud. It was pleasant to read the Dawn
Newspaper today which tagged the headline: 'India dethrone Pakistan'.
It would be nice if people in Delhi could converge at Airport to offer
a resounding welcome to players on their arival. Organisations working
for the blind can come together at this historic moment and pull out a
large crowd to welcome our players. this would further put pressure on
the BCCI and the government to not only give deserved incentives to
the players, but will drive the nation in a celebratory mode on a
macro level. Cricket and cricketers are worshipped in India and blind
cricketers who have lifted the Cup for the first time should get the
well-deserved affirmation and acclamation. I wonder why blind people
are not on roads in different parts of the country?

awareness raising event Raahagiri at CP New Delhi, under the banner of
it's innovative initiative, FUSION! Disabled and non disabled alike came
together on the cold Sunday morning to celebrate 'FUSION fun time', a
social platform, for people with and without disabilities, to come together
to interact and network, build relationships and partnerships and develop
friendships and share experiences, and have fun doing so! There were 11
Fusion members present, 5 visually impaired members and 6 non disabled
ones, proudly supporting yellow caps with "FUSION and Silver Linings", in a
brilliant pink printed in front, walking, talking laughing, dancing and
singing as they walked around; milling and interacting with the thousands
there! Many asked for our yellow caps, so many wanted to get photographed
with us and all were enchanted by the sight of 3 visually impaired girls
and 2 visually impaired boys dancing to the enthralling Bollywood music
along with the rest of the happy crowd! Fusion is one of the first such
social networking group which had everyone on the same platform, making
thousands of Raahagiri populous aware of equal right of the disabled, to
enjoy and to be included in mainstream activities!

Hope to do this again and to having you join us!

I'm glad to hear this. On the other hand, I'm really sad to see whatever
facilities/concessions/provisions/implementations are being given to the
disabled, either by the government or by the non-governmental organisation,
it's being given only in delhi alone.

They must realise that disabled people are not only in delhi. I can say
saksham for an example, if they are giving some lones or some new product,
they are just telling it's only for delhi living people. Likewise, most the
good things are being given to the delhi alone. Let them give priority to
the delhi people. But it has to be given to all. It's my personal view.

Subject: [AI] fyi PWDs may now buy assistive devices online

Indeed some positive step .

PWDs may now buy assistive devices online

NEW DELHI: Persons with Disabilities may no longer have to wait for public
camps in their localities to purchase assistive

devices, as these would now

be delivered at their door steps with just a click of a button.

The government is planning to rope in e-retailers to sell assistive
products

to Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) by

linking its web-portal, consisting

of directory of such products, with

online

retailers. The PWDs can then buy it online.

It would also open the window of convenience shopping for the
differently-abled people since they can compare the

specifications of products by different

manufacturers.

"We would be soon linking our recently launched web-portal comprising the
directory of aids and

assistive devices

for PWDs with online retailers. Differently-abled persons can compare the
products from different manufacturers and place

orders," Awanish Kumar Awasthi,

Joint Secretary, Department of Disability Affairs, Ministry of Social
Justice and Empowerment told PTI.

The web-portal, launched few days ago, is an interactive website,
www.swavlamban.info which contains a list of different

assistive technology products

being sold in the country and a few internationally available products.

An initiative of the Department of Disability Affairs, the portal has a
collection of products required for people

suffering from

Autism,

Cerebral Palsy, hearing, speech and visual impairments and multiple
disabilities.

Presently, differently-abled people are left with limited options to buy
devices such as camps organised by the ministry

in different parts of the country

or by visiting the institutes run by the ministry, where such products are
available.

This is an ordeal for them in the backdrop of difficulties in mobility and
time consumed for delivery of products,

officials said.

"For instance, if a visually impaired person wants to buy a low vision
device from

National Institute for the Visually Handicapped,

he has to travel all the way to Dehradun. But, once the e-commerce
facility

is being activated with the website, it will be

just a click of a button,"

they said.

Official sources further said that Aadhar card would be made mandatory for
availing the products through the web portal,

in a bid to ensure that the devices

that are sold reach the right persons.

[AI] REQUESTING THE STUDY MATERIALS OF FIRST YEAR BA Literature, Bharathiyar University

2014-12-08 Thread Mujeeb Rahman
Good Evening all,

An acquaintance of mine, who has been pursuing B.A English Literature
through distance from the Bharathiyar University, is denied for the
study materials in accessible format by the study centre here in
Cochin, Kerala. He is from a humble background, so scanning the whole
text of 5-subject is not at all possible for him. When he comes to me,
thought of asking the list advice before responding to him.
Does anybody have the first year study material of B.A Literature in pdf format?
Could you please guide me over this?
Would of great help, if those who have been pursuing graduation in the
mentioned subject, could share their contact number with me off the
list.

All, I really anticipate your guidance and help in order to help out
this poor boy, who doesn't have even an internet access on his
computer.

[AI] VIBEWA Hyderabad meet

2014-12-08 Thread Asudani, Rajesh

Friends
Our first ever meet held at Hyderabad yesterday i.e. Sunday December 7, 2014,
at EFLU, has been a grand success.

We had participants even from outside hyderabad from places as far as Khammam
and Tirupati, and women forming about thirty percent of the participation.
It was a three and a half hours of vibrant interaction wherein everybody
introduced themselves to commence with.
Rajesh Asudani, President VIGBEWA, traced the genisis of VIBEWA, from an e
-group of merely a couple of VI bank employees exchanging mails, determining
the baseline and charting the territory of collective organizational setup
metamorphosing into a national platform taking up the mammoth task of ensuring
optimum productivity of Visually challenged bank and finance employees.
He celebrated the first sweet success of VIBEWA, in the form of Circular by
Ministry of finance concerning various employment aspects of VI bankers, and
outlined the long and hard path ahead for implementation of many things.
Mr. G. Vamshi thereafter took the discussion to altogether different level of
actual interactions with the participants, concretizing the presidential
precepts.
Active bankers like Mr. B. Jairam, Manager, RBI Nagpur, and Ms. Swathi,
Assistant manager, SBH, infused the environment with confidence by narrating
their journey from passivity to fervent activity inside the bank despite total
blindness. Mr. Jairam likened the contribution to VIBEWA to the capital
expenditure which pays dividends not immediately but in the long run.
All the participants present were asked to freely shaere their job experiences.
This brought out many lived experiences of exclusion, discrimination, faulty
job mapping, lack of assistive technology, as well as indomitable will to work,
collective efforts towards productivity, need for awareness raising, and
positive action.
Some of the participants actually took benefit of spot registration and others
left with the feeling of belongingness which impending inclusion in a vibrant
national setup provides.
VIBEWA plans to hold similar meets across the nation in coming days.

With thanks and regards

Congrats India for this wonderful victory at Capetown. India had lost in
the semi finals in the first World Cup in 1998. Did not qualify for the
semifinals in the second World Cup and lost in the finals of the 3rd World
Cup and now have handsomely lifted the cup in the 4th edition.

I am thrilled on two counts.

1. This is the first time the World Cup is happening outside the
Indian subcontinent and congrats South Africa for this.

2. This is India's first World Cup and that is fantastic.

Let the Nation celebrate. It is extremely special for me and congrats again
to the team.

Best,
