Re: [AFMUG] AirFiber24 repair

2019-06-28 Thread Robert
Does anyone know off hand if the AF24 and AF24HD share the same basic
mounting hardware? Is it easy to swap them without changing the alignment?

Like I said, it was 2 years ago, but I had to go through support to
verify the broken radios before it let me purchase it from the
store.  They gave me a special code to use at the store.

Re: [AFMUG] OT - photo brings back memories of the JFK era

2019-06-28 Thread Ken Hohhof
Fairness doctrine required balanced coverage of controversial issues, reasoning
that broadcast spectrum was scarce and people couldn't roam the dial looking
for diverse coverage of events.

Problem today is there are no facts, just opinions, hence ALL issues are
controversial. NASA in the news? Better book a flat earther and a moon
landing conspiracy theorist. Pope in the news? Book an atheist. Measles
outbreak? Book an anti-vaxxer. FCC spectrum auction in the news? Get a guy
who says RF is dangerous.

I do remember the Vietnam War being a turning point, also probably Watergate.
Previously the nightly news pretty much reported government press releases.
But then networks started embedding reporters with the troops, and they started
reporting inconvenient truths about the war.

Remember SNL and Point-Counterpoint? "Jane, you ignorant slut!"

There is fabric innerduct, such as MaxCell, that is supposed to make it easier
to install a second cable into a prepopulated duct.

In my experience, it is tough to get a second cable through a conduit even if
there is a mule tape.  It seems the first cable seems to clog things up.
We have had limited success inside subdivisions where we have flat drop cable
and running 1 or 2 more flat drops in a conduit.

Pretty sure the answer is no on both, but if i have 1.25 populated with 96

You can always add intermediate handholes to break it up into smaller sections.
I have had to rod it before to get it to work, especially around corners.
They make little parachutes to blow jet line through and then pull mule tape.
All sounds reasonable and logical until you actually start doing it.

In reality, schedule a maintenance window between 2 and 4 in the morning. Cut

yeah I agree with Jim Probably not going to work especial if its been there for
any amount of time. If it it was 24-72 count, typically the same diameter,
maybe if you were blowing it. If this is a build you are planning and the duct
isn't in add another one.

Re: [AFMUG] OTA DVR etc

2019-06-28 Thread Trey Scarborough
I have a couple HDhomerun devices. They are compatible with several DVR
software programs I am using mythtv just because I have for almost 20
years. Most people seem to like Plex though.

I just realized I haven't turned on my DirecTV in weeks and it's 160mrc !

I was thinking of getting an IPTV solution + OTA antenna, needs to
know the best DVR or interface etc?

Re: [AFMUG] 1.25 innerduct capacity

2019-06-28 Thread Trey Scarborough
yeah I agree with Jim Probably not going to work especial if its been
there for any amount of time. If it it was 24-72 count, typically the
same diameter, maybe if you were blowing it. If this is a build you are
planning and the duct isn't in add another one.

Pretty sure the answer is no on both, but if i have 1.25 populated
with 96 count, can you realistically come back and blow/pull
anything else? What if its populated with 24 count?

Re: [AFMUG] 1.25 innerduct capacity

2019-06-28 Thread chuck
Sometimes. Depends on lots of factors. How far?

You can push rods and pull back mule tape. Sometimes you can blow jetline and
pull back mule tape.
Microfiber will fit, the problem is whether or not the 96 is laying nice in the
bottom of the duct or if it spirals and cork screws a bunch.

YoutubeTV comes with cloud dvr as well. No need for another device to record
and the space is unlimited.

I bought the airTV and am very pleased with it. No monthly fees. If you want
the DVR function you have to use it with the Sling App but they have a free
Sling version. Sling version has a much better on screen guide.

It has its own airTV app that does everything but DVR.

Re: [AFMUG] ODTR

2019-06-28 Thread fiberrun
FYI, the weekly rentals are just about what you'd pay for an el cheapo Chinese
OTDR. Mine works fine for short distances (< ~10 miles). On longer spans the
sensitivity/noise/dead zones are suboptimal, but it still works. FS has some,
but haven't tried their models.

In other words, it all depends on what your requirements are. If you are just
testing short spans, know what you are doing and can live with the limitations,
go Chinese. If you need to characterize, certify or need something like iOLM
and/or need it only intermittently, rent.

rental is best  I would think if you're not going to put it the full use.
Here's a couple links that can help you out.

I would say go with the best to rent.
