Re: [AFMUG] OT Sip Phones
Polycom are very solid phones … I’d put them “head to head” with the Cisco phones (the non Linksys branded ones) … different price bracket than the Grandstream/Linksys etc phones but the quality (look and feel) is quite noticeably different in my opinion too .. Are they worth the difference?I’d say “it depends” … I used to have Snom and then Aastra phones in my home and they worked ok – eventually they died off (3-4 years) and I went to Polycom .. couple of more years and I’ll be more confident in saying they were worth the price (almost double if I recall)… YMMV.. I still have (and use) one of my very first Polycom phones. They are very solid and don't feel like a toy, as many phones do. The speaker phones are very good and they have support for headsets (I think all models do) built in. I don't really like Polycom's conference phone, but that is more because of the way it looks rather than it's functionality. -- Butch Evans Training and Support for WISPs 702-537-0979 http://store.wispgear.net/ http://www.butchevans.com/
Re: [AFMUG] OT Sip Phones
We use a ton of Grandstream phones and like them. The Polycoms are excellent but pricey to most small business budgets. As far as using the Grandstream UCMs, I'd recommend just getting a used PC and putting Asterisk on it. UCMs lack a lot of features customers want but for a basic system, it's fine. Plus, Grandstreams support here hasn't been the greatest. We couldn't get an IAX truck to work for a customer and couldn't figure out why. After some e-mails to support they acknowledged it was broken and no time was given for the fix. +1. We're using the Yealink T4-series phones. Our office is all T46G & T48G. We went from Cisco 7940s and these are a world of difference (for the better), both in voice quality and tolerance/interop for NAT. I personally prefer the T41P/T42P as the 46 & 48 have a slight digit input lag that bugs me. I still have a SIP-T28P (B screen) on my desk and am perfectly happy with it. For "budget" office setups on a tight budget you can occasionally find large numbers of the smaller screen B phones on eBay in good condition. Last year I bought eight SIP-T22P for $41 a piece with AC power adapter for an NGO with very limited funds. If you get a yealink phone without the power adapter and can't do 802.3af for whatever reason, the older B phones all run on 5VDC 1A adapters with a normal sized barrel plug, which you can buy for very cheap. Yes, 4 FXO's :/ Random crashes/reboots of the unit after a certain firmware. Don't remember the version. This was between 6-12 months ago. Also had quite an echo problem on the FXO's that we couldn't resolve, despite changing volume settings and other things (codecs, etc). Other users reported the same FXO issues and grandstream never responded other than going through the normal troubleshooting steps. It was reproducable. Take a look at the higher end Yealink phones. On Jan 25, 2016 11:47 AM, "Chuck McCown"wrote: > Anyone used the Panasonic sip phones? Our VOIP provider pushes these. Few people in our office building have started using them. Seems to work pretty well with Broadsoft. I'm still stuck on my Cisco 7960. Re: [AFMUG] OT Sip Phones
I've been very happy with the Grandstream phones 2140 and 2160. I really like that the 2160 has the sidecar built in, no need to add anything extra. Only have had 1 failure so far. Phone had the display go out. RMA'd without an issue. While finding a hefty piece of wood to knock on, I haven't had any stability issues with the 6104. Started deploying them about a year and a half ago. Price is definitely good too.
