[all-audio] Looking for an Accessible Spotify Music Downloader
Hi. I've tried downloading Spotify content using Pontes Media Downloader, but this didn't work. I've also tried a few Spotify downloaders that I found online, but they all seem to have unlabelled buttons. Can anyone please suggest a suitable piece of software to use with Jaws? [all-audio] Using Streaming Services During Radio Broadcasts
Hi. I've read recently that it's possible to broadcast music on a radio show from a streaming service like Spotify, saving the need for files in a physical or computer drive-based library. Is anyone aware of this and - if so - how is the sound from something like the Spotify desktop app routed into the radio playout software? Additionally, can this be done with all broadcast programs, or are there only specific ones that will allow you to do this? Many thanks in advance for any and all advice/experiences. Re: [all-audio] Issue with GoldWave Start/End Markers
Hi John. Thanks for coming back with this one. This is roughly what I was wondering about, but I have never done anything to do with the zooming before and I’m therefore unsure how it works. I also am not sure of the jaws shortcuts for implementing different zoom levels and for checking the current level. Are you please able to advise any further? Re: [all-audio] Issue with GoldWave Start/End Markers
Hi JM. Thanks very much for your thoughts. I'm afraid your suggestions - which are great - have already been covered. I've tried re-starting the PC a couple of times, and the only background software running during the period of the issue's presentation is Jaws. Unfortunately, it does seem to happen pretty regularly, especially when I've set a start marker and am trying to pause again in order to set a finish marker (or even if I just try setting the marker without pausing). Anyway, thanks again for those ideas... Any other suggestions from anybody will again be really gratefully received. [all-audio] Issue with GoldWave Start/End Markers
Hi All. I hope you are doing well. I've just installed the latest version of GoldWave on a new Windows 10 desktop, and I'm using it with external speakers plugged into the base unit and the latest version of Jaws. I'm finding that, when I press F7 to pause the output in order to place a start/end marker in a given position, it occasionally works immediately but often has a second or two of lag before it implements the command. I've checked the play/device attributes (F11 shortcut), and they match those on my old laptop apart from the output device being the external speaker rather than an internal one. Does anyone have any ideas as to what might be causing the problem? Of course, I assume it could be a speed issue with the processor of the desktop, but as it's newly-created with very few pieces of software I assume this isn't the case. Could it be something to do with a difference between laptops and desktops, or is it something to do with the View/Zoom settings, or is there anything else that comes to mind? Many thanks in advance for any help. Re: [all-audio] Recording via Bluetooth
Hi Simon. That sounds brilliant... Exactly what I'm looking for. I've looked around and keep coming across the B1 Bluetooth Receiver... Is that the right model? If so, can you please advise as to where you bought yours? I'm only finding them in the US and China at the moment. If not, or if that receiver won't attach to a DM-670 (I saw references to RCA cables on one review, so I don't know whether that one takes 3.5 mm leads), could you again please send a link to whichever product you use? [all-audio] Recording via Bluetooth
Hi there. I hope everyone's well. For a long time I've recorded content from my iPhone 5S (not calls, but notes read by VoiceOver, attachments from emails, etc.) using my Olympus DM-670 and a 3.5 mm to 3.5 mm jack lead. Unfortunately, my faithful smartphone has now given up the ghost, and trials with headphone adapters attached to my iPhone SE 2020 and various iPods/iPads have all featured a great deal of hissing behind the audio output. I presume this is because newer models require more power to run (seeing as they're effectively computers these days) and/or that the lightning to 3.5 mm adaptor creates interference between the two devices. This leads me to assume that the only way to record material from my iPhone SE 2020 or another modern model would be to connect such a device to a digital recorder via bluetooth. I've come across plenty of bluetooth recorders that are designed for phone call recording, but does anyone know of a bluetooth digital recorder which is simple/accessible for a totally blind user that can create good-quality recordings (no background feedback, noise picked up from elsewhere in the room where the devices are located, etc.)? Many thanks in advance for any recommendations. Cheers - Take care, Danny -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Groups.io Links: You receive all messages sent to this group. [all-audio] Playback Issue with Olympus DM-670
Hi. I'm able to record files using my Olympus DM-670, and I can even play them back without any problems on my laptop, but when I play them on the digital recorder itself it stops playback after one or two seconds. This even includes files that have previously played without issue on the device. Once a file stops playing, I can't get any of the buttons to make sounds or encourage the recorder to start playing again. Instead, I have to turn the device off (which often takes two or three attempts) and then turn it back on, at which point it starts confirming that folder A is active (in the same way as it does after a charging of the battery). However, the device is claiming that the battery is at a high level, and I've tried charging it a bit in case this information is wrong without any success. Any advice regarding possible causes and solutions will be appreciated. Thanks in advance for any contributions. Re: [all-audio] Problem with Existing GoldWave Licence
Hi Colin. Thanks very much for that. You actually did help, as pasting in the credentials worked. Some programs don't like me doing that, and GoldWave wasn't showing any characters in the boxes when I pasted the info before, so that's why I was trying to type it in. Not sure why it doesn't work with both methods of input, but thanks for solving the problem for me. [all-audio] Problem with Existing GoldWave Licence
Hi. I hope everyone is doing well. I've recently installed the latest version of GoldWave and have been using it without issue (apart from the fact that the time announced when a start or end place marker is created is that of the previous marker and not the one being created at the time). However, I'd incorrectly assumed that it had remembered my previous licence credentials, and so this morning it has asked me to register. Upon trying to register with my lifetime licence's user ID and licence, I'm receiving a notification stating that one or other of these is incorrect, even though I've typed it straight from the original licence email. I assume that lifetime means lifetime, but could it be that I need to purchase a new one due to the gap between the versions of GoldWave that I've used? I was using version 5.68 until I downloaded the latest update, so I'd be grateful to know whether or not anyone thinks this might be the issue. Alternatively, any other potential causes of the problem or solutions to the issue (including the best method of contacting GoldWave, if that's required) will be very much appreciated. Many thanks in advance. Take care, Danny -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Groups.io Links: You receive all messages sent to this group. Plex Web; Re: [all-audio] for a sighted user
Hi Dane and All. I've just downloaded Plex Web on a Windows 10 laptop using NVDA, and the software is definitely installed because it shows up in my search results and the Add and Remove Programs list. However, whenever I try to load the app, nothing seems to happen (I can't even use shift + tab to move to it, because it just isn't showing as being physically there). Is NVDA incompatible with the software and, if not, how can I get the app visible to me? I'm assuming it's a screen overlay that can't be read by a screenreader but, presuming that my memory is serving me correctly and Dane is totally blind, this can't be true. Any help will be gratefully received, as will advice on storage capacity limits and whether media can be uploaded to the Plex server from an external hard drive or only from a PC/laptop drive. [all-audio] Audio Playback Issue with Apple Devices
OK, so this is a rather random/unusual question, but any info or advice will be gratefully received. I've often played content from my iPhone 5S into another source (digital recorder, amp, etc) for the purposes of recording or for musical accompaniment. This has never caused me any issues and, although VoiceOver leads to a small amount of background hiss/static being expressed while the phone is talking, the playback quality of audio material is unaffected by this and all distortion/hiss stops as soon as the phone's speech output ends. I therefore assumed that all iOS and iOSPad products would allow me to do the same things, but I've found over the last few days (the first time that I've actually tried to use other devices) that both the iPad Mini and the iPod Touch (6th generation) present material with a much greater amount of feedback once VoiceOver is activated, even if VO is then turned off and no other gestures are used. These issues aren't apparent when using the devices by themselves, but the additional noises are very obvious to me when listening with headphones or playing back a recording. So, does anyone please know why my iPhone is much more obliging (for example, because it uses more/less power than the other devices, because it has a different type of speaker, because it draws on phone signals, etc)? Also, presuming that my analysis so far is correct and the iPhone is the way to go, would this be the same with larger/more powerful/more recent models or only with older models like the 5S? Many, many thanks in advance for any help. Take care, Danny -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Groups.io Links: You receive all messages sent to this group. [all-audio] Music Production with Pro Tools and/or Cubase
Hi. Apologies if discussions around this subject have previously taken place on here...They've gone straight out of my memory. I'm just wondering whether Cubase and/or Pro Tools are accessible and able to run on Windows 7. I currently have Jaws version 14.0, but I'm aware that NVDA might be a feasible alternative once I've learned it. Many thanks in advance for any advice/guidance received. Re: [all-audio] Difficulties Installing Reaper on Windows 7 Laptop
Hi again. Many thanks for that suggestion and for outlining how it works. I ran a portable installation and, because it confirmed the folder path, I better understood what you were saying and managed to trace the .exe file for opening the program. I've never opened a program that way before...I've only done it from a Start Menu icon or from the search bar. Anyway, I've got it now, so your help is much appreciated. Regarding Osara, I was under the impression that I should install the program first, so I haven't grabbed that yet. I have installed the Jaws scripts...Would it still be advisable to install Osara as well? [all-audio] Difficulties Installing Reaper on Windows 7 Laptop
Hi Everyone. I'm trying to install the free 60-day trial of Reaper for Windows (64-bit) on my laptop. However, whether I allow it to install to the default Program Files folder or edit the folder path so that it reads Program Files (X86), I'm finding that it claims to install correctly but doesn't create a Start Menu or Desktop icon for future use and I'm therefore unable to open the software. I've noticed that there are some questions requiring yes or no answers during the installation, and for some reason Jaws 14.0 doesn't read these or announce whether or not the check boxes for items such as the aforementioned icons are selected or not, so I've got no way of knowing exactly what I'm installing. I've already installed the Jaws scripts for Reaper, and I assume that I should install the program before adding Osara, so I assume that inaccessibility isn't strictly the cause of these problems (although, as I say, the lack of clarity regarding the highlighting of tick boxes is unhelpful). Can anyone please advise on how to get everything installed correctly? Also, I'd appreciate recommendations for any suitable tutorials/email lists/Facebook groups/etc., especially as the company's user guide appears to be an inaccessible PDF. Re: [all-audio] GoldWave Issue with Differing Times Between Versions of the Same Content
Hi Tim. Yes, I am able to open them...It's just the re-saving bit (cutting and saving part of the content into a new file) as an MP3 that's not working. I suspect that the files are too big to save directly from the original but I'll be glad to try saving the portions as WAV files and then convert them to MP3. Out of interest, what is it about saving them as WAV files first that might help them to keep their original length? [all-audio] GoldWave Issue with Differing Times Between Versions of the Same Content
Hi Guys. Apologies in advance if this message doesn't make sense...Please let me know if you need to clarify anything. So, I've got some M4A files that are very long and which I need to convert to MP3. I've tried to do this with NCH's Sound File Converter but, as the files are around 26 hours in length, I found that the whole of the files were not being converted (The converted files had a duration of around 12.5 hours, even though the conversion software had reached 100% of its assigned duties). I then thought of cutting up the files into smaller parts using GoldWave and converting them into MP3 files while saving the new versions. This has, in theory, worked...Each separate file plays. However, the collected durations of the four files that make up the original recording add up to approximately 1.5 minutes to 2 minutes less than the total duration of the original file. The only thing that I can think of is that, after saving the files as MP3s, GoldWave keeps asking whether or not I want to update the sound window. I have always said yes but, for an unspecified reason, it has occasionally said that it is impossible to do so. This has left the file saved but, presumably, without the sound window being updated. As I don't know what it means by updating the sound window, and as the first few seconds of each recording play in Windows Media Player as I would expect, I assume that no damage has been done to the original content. However, if no damage has been done and no alterations have taken place, I don't understand why the duration of the individual file and the cumulative length of the four files added together do not amount to the same total. Am I potentially missing part of the original material (I would prefer to not have to listen to all 26 hours of content to check it) or is something less problematic going on here? Sorry for the strange question...Any thoughts and experiences will be gratefully received. All my best, Danny -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Groups.io Links: You receive all messages sent to this group. [all-audio] Hosting a Podcast
Hi everyone. Apologies if this is off-topic but, as it relates to sharing audio content, I hope it's suitable for the list. I'm looking for advice from anyone who is totally blind regarding the best (most accessible) places to host a podcast. Ideally, this would be somewhere that has a set template, saving me the necessity of checking with someone sighted whether or not changes or additions to the page are visually appropriate. I've previously used Audioboom (when it was Audioboo, admittedly) and Mixcloud to upload content but, as I'm not aware of being able to share posts from either of these platforms to iTunes via an RSS feed, they don't really meet my needs. I know that Wordpress and related blogging servers are often used but, as far as I understand it, these still require initial theme selection and potentially continuous visual monitoring to ensure a professional presentation (just like any DIY website). I thought about uploading an audio podcast to Youtube with an image attached but, again, I don't think content from here can be shared to iTunes (which, as far as I understand it, is the place where most downloads come from). [all-audio] Issue with Accessing DAB Radio in the UK on Roberts Concerto
Hi Listers. Apologies for the rather unique/specific nature of this question... Any help will be gratefully received. I'm in the UK and, for some time, I've been unable to pick up DAB radio on my Roberts Concerto (it's not the Concerto 2 - as far as I'm aware - as I've had the unit since 2014 or 2015). Initially, I thought that I must have accidentally changed stations from what I had been listening to because it was playing something random but I found at the same time that even my pre-set stations had changed and I'm now not getting anything at all by either attempting to re-scan for stations or by pressing the pre-set buttons. I've tried the unit in various locations in case it's simply a positional issue, including moving between two different rooms, but I've had no success. I know these are quite old models (I think they were around as early as 2008), and I know there were some DAB changes in 2012, but as I was happily using digital radio on this device much later than 2012 I'm assuming that isn't the issue (unless further alterations have taken place). So, can anyone please advise me of any updates that might be causing this issue or suggest any other ways of potentially fixing the problems that I'm having? [all-audio] Ripping Audio from DVD
Hi. I'm trying to rip audio from some DVD discs using Windows 7 and Jaws 14.0. I tried using GoldWave but it told me that there was a data track that was blocking me from saving content and, even when I changed the time range (both to and from) so that the save window (similar to that in Windows Explorer) appeared, it continued to state that my file couldn't read from the DVD to actually save anything. So, can anyone please advise on how to make GoldWave play ball or recommend an accessible and free/cheap piece of software that will do the job (including enabling me to monitor where the data track ends and the actual content starts ... GoldWave wouldn't let me preview, even though I had the correct playback options set)? Many thanks in advance for any help. Take care, Danny -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Groups.io Links: You receive all messages sent to this group. Re: [all-audio] Issues Recording with USB Soundcard
I've run a recording test in GoldWave and both channels are peaking at -76db (no signal detected). On 4/19/18, Danny Miles <toptunesda...@gmail.com> wrote: > It's a Behringer UCA-222 USB soundcard. Re: [all-audio] Issues Recording with USB Soundcard
It's a Behringer UCA-222 USB soundcard. I've ticked "listen to device" for both recording and playback and have also checked that both playback and recording have it as the default windows device/have it enabled. [all-audio] Clash Between Braille Display and Voice in Recording
Hi everyone. I'm trying to record a book narration using GoldWave but the sound of my display is coming out over the mic ... both the noise of the pins changing as I move down the document and - more obviously (it's often louder) - the sound of me pressing the button which moves the document down by a line at a time. I've tried compression but this doesn't always remove all of the sounds from the display without removing the softer parts of my speech, such as the letter K in "look" and "book". Does anyone have any practical experience of solving an issue similar to this or any ideas of what I can do? Any help will be so gratefully received ... you'll be life-savers. [all-audio] Trouble Re-Starting Olympus DM-670
Hi guys. My fiancee and I have had Olympus DM-670 digital voice recorders for a couple of years now and have always found them to be excellent. However, whenever we remove the batteries and put them back in (or when the batteries completely run down), we find that getting them going again is a real issue. We're battling the crisis again this morning ... we've been able to turn it on by plugging it into a laptop's USB port and it said that the battery level was high, so batteries aren't the problem. However, every time that we unplug it, it stops speaking or making any sounds in response to buttons being pressed or the on-off switch being used. Unfortunately, I changed the USB connection setting to PC so that I could copy some files, so we now don't even have audio feedback when it's plugged into the laptop because the PC setting overrules the audio feedback that usually occurs. This means that it's not talking when plugged in or when unplugged, so we basically can't use it. Does anyone please know why the devices throw a fit when batteries are newly put in and how we might please get this one chatting to us again? Thanks very much in advance for any help.
