It should. It's just people are most likely expected to use it with the IPad. Re: [all-audio] using my iphone as a high quality recorder
Yes it tops at 20 KHz actually. So any full range condencer hears like your ears. 20 Hz to 20 KHZ. But here's the thing. Your ears are only full range when you're a baby. I thankfully can still hear up to 18 KHZ. I don't know about the bass. Like does one's ability to hear full 20 Hz drop as well? Don't know. Why Apple chose to cut things at 48K? Well only they know. So therefore I wouldn’t bother doing any studio mastering or recording live bands with an iPhone as you could do better with other devices. with all due respect, but saying that, "most do" is not really that helpful, as there is still a fair chance of getting one that doesn't, as there is often no way of telling. would a Steinberg UR22 work with android for example? Re: [all-audio] using my iphone as a high quality recorder
Yep Blu-Ray goes up to 192K but that’s different from the DVD 5.1 channels you’re talking about as most are sampled from analogue 48K. I’ll say it again just to make things clear and avoid confusion. Nothing wrong with 48K but it isn’t a high sampling rate if you want to make top quality recordings. Why Apple chose to cut things at 48K? Well only they know. So therefore I wouldn’t bother doing any studio mastering or recording live bands with an iPhone as you could do better with other devices. As has been pointed out, voice recordings will be perfectly fine and do sound very good through the built-in microphone as well as external microphones. So then we come back to the next question of cost. Now I don’t know how much an external microphone for an iPhone costs these days but I do remember purchasing my Blue Yeti which I’ve used with my iPhone and I’ve used with my Android devices along with Windows, PC’s, Mac etc. The Blue Yetti cost me nearly $300 which could easily buy me a dedicated recorder with better quality audio. So once again, do your research and buy what’s right for you. > On 6 Aug 2018, at 10:34 pm, Hamit Campos wrote: > > Yeah you boath are right. Just Press Record, Audio Memos, both very accessible. For microphones, I recommend the Zoom IQ7, or if you want to go higher-end, the Hook Audio or Ambeo binaural earbuds are great. Re: [all-audio] using my iphone as a high quality recorder
That all said an iPhone still lacks the high bit and sampling rates that a dedicated recorder or even an Android phone can offer. Last I checked the iPhone could only record up to 48KHZ, enough for voice perhaps. Regarding the microphone of the iPhone not being of high quality? Well friends I have to disagree with that statement somewhat, if you can turn off all the processing on the iPhone behind the microphone then the internal microphone of the iPhone indeed does a very fair job c considering what it is. Obviously external microphones can be of higher quality still. -Original Message- From: all-audio@groups.io On Behalf Of tim cumings Sent: Monday, 6 August 2018 9:48 AM To: all-audio@groups.io Subject: Re: [all-audio] using my iphone as a high quality recorder you can use your iPhone as a high-quality recorder. Yeah as for interfaces, Zoom has the U44. If you like how the Zoom H5 and H6 sound with external mikes then you'd be good with this. Sure does make a mike for the lightning port but it's not stereo. Or at least the 1 I've heard ain't. On 8/5/2018 4:35 AM, André van Deventer wrote: Hi all Something I have been wondering about for some time now. Re: [all-audio] using my iphone as a high quality recorder
I personally like the ultimate vr or ultimate voice recorder as it is otherwise known app. the quality is customisable, and recordings can be automatically sent to dropbox or something like that. as far as external mics go, there are a few to choose from. a lot of them however, don't have any cable, but just connect directly to the lightning port, which I think makes them very easy to get knocked and cause possible damage to the lightning port. the main ones are the zoom ones, which I believe there are at least 2, possibly 3 models of, and which are nice ones, sure make one, but I haven't tested this out yet, and rode also make one, but unless you are going to use it with it's own app only, I found the pick up on it rather quiet and disappointing. alternatively, another really good device, is the line6 sonic port vx. this is not only a stereo mic, but a good little audio interface as well. some of the features of it's app are not very accessible, but a good one that is, will let you hear the sound that you will get from it before using any other app to actually record. it also has a headphone socket for monitoring, which is great for any of the new iPhones which don't have there own. it also has a cable, rather than being directly fixed to your lightning port. finally, it has a mount for any standard mic stand. finally, if you have a larger budget, and a preferred professional mic that you prefer to use, you could get the apogee duet, which again, is an audio interface, with xlr input connections. hope some of this info helps. I'm not really much into IOS products these days but I do plan to get one of the new iPad Pro machines towards the end of this year and when I do an external microphone will be on the table. I believe many of the standard USB microphones we know of such as the Blue Yetti can be used and I know of others that plug into a headphone jack if you own a microphone that has such a thing. So do yourself a favour in the meantime, do a Google search and see what you come up with, my bet is that you'll come up with enough devices to wet your appetite. -Original Message- From: all-audio@groups.io On Behalf Of André van Deventer Sent: Sunday, 5 August 2018 6:36 PM To: all-audio@groups.io Subject: [all-audio] using my iphone as a high quality recorder Hi all Something I have been wondering about for some time now. Re: [all-audio] using my iphone as a high quality recorder
Rode makes a very nice external Mic which plugs right into the lightningport -- you have to not have the phone in a case for this to work, but this records at least at a sample rate of 48k and bit depth of 24. The rode app will go higher, but I think my iphone 6 is not powerful enough. This will not work on iphone 7 and above unless you cut off the part of the mount which covers the home button which is not really a mechanical button.
