That would meet with interests of Greek gouvernment, but OOOo project has other
goals than to satisfy Greek national inerests by using that provisional
reference. And 1.1.0 will not be developed any longer ;-)

Request in the report is not common sense in the OOo project, UNO usage is
without interest here.

There is sample DOC file, created by third party. It has very poor formatting
(different numeration styles assigned to each line), but MS Word shows
numeration with equal size, thus "hiding" numeration errors. OOo shows
numeration in different sizes, making reading very inconvenient.

Text that is animated to scroll back and forth, is visible in editing mode, but
invisible in slide-show mode. The same error happened several versions ago, but
was fixed.

Tested today in OOo 3.0 final.
I opened a presentation that works correctly in OOo 2.4.1.
I also added a new text animation to a slide, this also did not display in
slide-show mode.

Is possibly the same error that I'm getting.
Text that is animated to scroll back and forth, is visible in editing mode, but
invisible in slide-show mode.
The same error happened several versions ago, but was fixed.
Tested today in OOo 3.0 final.
I used a presentation that works correctly in OOo 2.4.1 on the same computer.

OOo runs fine until Sun updates the JRE. Then all OOo applications fail to start
with unexpected java error. This has happened three times now. Running repair
will not fix the error. A complete uninstall and reinstall is required.

Symptoms: some of the UTF8 characters (Ž for instance) can not be entered
properly.

o OOo 3.0 beta used
o DB on the server is accessed via ODBC driver (from the MySQL site), installed
on a Win system. In the driver setup UTF8 has been selected.
o On the MySQL side the coding is properly set to UTF8, one can enter data via
Web form without problems

The problem has been resolved by installing the 3.51.25 version of the ODBC
driver instead of the 5.1

Running Mac OS X 10.5.5 (Leopard) on an Intel Mac.

I've run NeoOffice for the last couple of years. I have a lot of documents with
Japanese and Greek file
names.

When I attempt to open any document with a non-English file name, OOo 3 says
that the file doesn't exist.

There appears to be no easy way to represent a timestamp (date+time) in
spreadsheet cells. You have to use two cells (one for each of date and time).
This has several drawbacks:
- timestamp arithmetic is extremely complicated
- it is very hard to import/export timestamp columns from data bases.
- you can't easily create spreadsheets that simulate iCal documents

As a new user to OO, imagine my sutprise when this straightforward and basic
functionality in (forgive me) Excel is not available in OO.

Imagine my dismay to discover further that this issue was first reported 6
years ago, and has had no action, in spite of having been re-discovered and
reported independently by several people since then.

As a minimum, why can't we add the option to display date cells in ISO format?
Is it really that hard?

Document Converter does not see Excel 2007's .xlsx files as a file to be
converted. While Calc can open the files, there are problems due to which
functions Calc 3.0.0 supports and which functions Excel 2007 supports (and the
formatting used in each).

Example: Calc offers SUMIF which appears to function regardless of sorting of
the source data, however Excel offers SUMIF which relies on the source data
being sorted and SUMIFS which functions regardless of sorting. What I'm hoping
to see is the ability for the Document Converter to read these files, and be
able to convert instances of "SUMIFS(SumRange,SearchRange,Criteria)" to "SUMIF
(SearchRange,Criteria,SumRange)".

(Sorry, I'm new to this system - submitted it before I had fnished editing it.)
To be clear, this would be a independent option in the Date option area. The
existing option specifies the "origin" date. This new option would specify the
edit format, which is currently hard-wired as DD/MM/.

Spreadheet dates should be editable and viewable in ISO format (-MM-DD).
This should be easy to add to the list of Calulate Date options.

Even better, would to have one of the choices be "host default". (Of course,
that would only be available on OS's that have a host enviroment default, e.g.
Windows.)

According to the United Nations member states list at

http://www.un.org/members/list.shtml

the official name of the state that is called "Macedonia" throughout OO.org
applications and documentation is the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia
(FYROM).

Please do not use the term "Macedonia" instead, as this also happens to be the
name of a province in northern Greece.

The choice of the name Macedonia by FYROM directly raises the issue of
usurpation of the cultural heritage of a neighbouring country. The name
constitutes the basis for staking an exclusive rights claim over the entire
geographical area of Macedonia. It's almost like having a new state south of
the
United States calling itself Republic of California.

For more details please read:

What's in a Name? With Macedonia, Plenty!

I agree with the person who logged the bug: the responded "oc" seems to have
misunderstood the request. It is only a change to the text that appears in the
UI, and would have no effect on new or saved spreadsheets.

Initially I thought this was a clipboard issue, as this also happens when doing
copy/paste from external (to OO) applications that support OLE.

So there are 2 ways to reproduce this (tested in Draw, Writer and Calc):
1) Start a brand new metafile object in another application. Best if the object
has gradients or mixed vectors/bitmaps.
2) Copy your object from external application to clipboard (example, from MS
Visio 2007)
3) Paste into OO application: Result, the object is totally distorted.

Another way to reproduce:
1) From Draw, Writer or Calc.
2) Go to Insert/Object/OLE object... menu
3) Insert non OO OLE object that displays as metafile with gradients and
bitmaps. This works even for linked objects from files.

Try with a PDF file, it displays properly in Adobe Acrobat, but when embedded
into Calc is totally distorted. (I'll try to upload an attachment, this is my
first post).

1. spreadsheet: control-D for fill ... I shouldn't have to go to the menu to do
this (yes, this is like Excel).

2. spreadsheet: control-; to input current date into a cell

3. spreadsheet: an easier way of making dropdown menus! It looks like I need to
make a form just to put
in a dropdown menu.

1. Form controls is under View not Format as stated in the Help file

2 . writer: error – on the find and replace box, once you click more options
then it changes to “less
options” ... this is grammatically incorrect. Should be “fewer options”.

Impress is honestly not an option for me without this feature.

What about making this a GSOC project?

And integrating the presenter console extension would obviously be a very useful
addition, as this is one feature that makes Impress clearly better than PP, and
would make it much easier to evangelize OOo to others. Personally, I don't care
about self-executing presentations. A viewer would be just fine for me.

The wrong text is also in the menu Inside > Trend Lines.

It is wrong in English too. In English it should be "coefficient of
determination". The text is also wrong in the status bar, where R² is called

Why do you try to "fake" double-sided? OOo has a nice "Brochure" option and the
only left, only right and reverse option, which you need when turning round your

Many printers have a setting to print pages in reverse order (Print > Properties
and select reverse page order - details differ between printers). Is this
available on your printer?

This is probably not a bug. If above does not work for you, then it perhaps
might be changed into an enhancement request.

3.0 looks better, but "Tools->Share Document..." is still broken. I attached a
picture of Excel vs Calc Share dialog for this issue.

The excel file is saved in Excel 2003 .xls format.

Image File: Oo Calc Sharing 3.0.0 -
In both dialogs I should see myself listed twice, once for Oo-Calc, and again
for Excel 2007 file opening. Also, Oo-Calc should not be opening this file for
exclusive access since Excel already has it open. Oo-Calc also appears to get
the date wrong (pointing to incorrect data?).

Image File: Oo Calc Sharing 3.0.0 Screen B -
In this image I asked Oo-Calc to "Share" the spreadsheet, saved the file, then
opened the shared file with Excel 2007. This time in the Oo-Calc dialog I am
showed twice in the sharing dialog (correct action), though the date/time is
incorrect for one of the entries. Excel 2007 still doesn't show the Calc user
in it's share dialog.

After exiting Excel, Oo-Calc still persisted in showing the Excel session, which
should have disappeared after I closed Excel.

Comparing Oo-Calc 3.0 to Oo-Calc 3.0b2, we're moving forward we just aren't
there yet.

paragraph par_id1328470
X-Werte verwenden. Für solche Diagramme wären XY-Diagramme die sinnvollere
Variante.

and in paragraph par_id33875
Erstellen Sie eine Tabelle mit den Spalten x, x², x³, … , xⁿ, y bis zum
gewünschten Grad n.

The reason is, that the source contains … instead of the entity
…

Somewhere in the process & is replaced by & where it should not. I doubt
that this is the only file where this has happened. Therefore I thing, it is not
enough to correct the file, but the place in the process has to be find, where
this happens.

[sw-issues] [Issue 94959] Notes improvements: format ting, options, styling, printing

@es: Concerning this issue, you're right, but I propose to keep this discussion
in this place because it is a bit later for that. If we finally identify one or
two items, new issues should be created and I will close this one. Okay?

@hfinger: Please consider that we worked for 1,5 years on that and we decided
many things this way, that it will work for a wide variety of users and use
cases. Therefore in some cases, small workarounds will be required for some of
your cases.

>>> What about a single-cell table or similar. This is a real pest when you
want to add underlining, bold, code font = Courier.
Beiing our beloved developers, mod and mba decided it this way considering
technical and functional constraints. Anyway, this discussion is not finished
yet in the i-Team.

>>> What about putting date and name in a single line, instead of one above the
other?
Okay, then we do not have enough place, use initials instead of the full
author's name or we would remove the drop-down button which eases the access for
Mac users (no right mouse button) and beginners (not knowing about a context
menu). This reasons are stated in the requirements.

>>> In this current job, I find that the same Note is required in many places in
the document. It is easier to select and copy the first Note, rather than type
it all out again.
Usually, Copy and Paste should work even for the content. Ctrl+Alt+N for a new
note, Ctrl+V for the content.

>>> Or just clicking on the triangle to select the Note.
>>> Not very important if you can click on the anchor.
For accessibility reaons there should be always an alternative for e.g. keyboard
users. So thinking about functionality requires this to be considered.

>>> I was thinking mainly of shrinking them to perhaps show a line. The reader
could (a) scroll the Note [okay for a few lines] or (b) grab a handle and resize
it to see all the content, perhaps temporarily obscuring neighbouring Notes.
Again, it has been decided to minimize manual interaction. I don't want this to
be changed in the near future, although we have enough substantial user
feedback.

>>> What about RH, LY, or both RH and LH? If Notes alternated in both margins,
and were smaller, you could fit in lots, with less overlap of leader lines.
[...]
This would change the order of the Notes between the text/anchors and the side
pane. And, this kind of visual design has already been implemented for book
layout (two sides paper "touch" each other and only the outter margins can be
used).

>>> Perhaps keep the background colour to indicate the reviewer, but change
border and anchor colour when leader lines clash? Red border relates to red
anchor? [...]
This assumes that you already selected the note (or mouse-over-ed it). We
already provide the "focus feeback" via shadow which will be further improved as
Writer gets better graphic capabilities outside the paper area.

At the moment I would propose that you re-open a new issue for the first item
(selectable text format) to not get lost. All other items have been decided in
the team or need further feedback from our complete user base. Maybe the usage
feedback extension will help here. Okay?

Bye, Christoph

It is not a German only problem, but is problem for other languages too, and it
occurs also if you open a original OOo3 spreadsheet with OOo2.4.1, see issue
92530.
If it cannot be solved in OOo3, shouldn't it then be corrected in OOo2.4.2?

A P2 issue with target milestone "not determined"?

@ Clicking a Note outside the text area, say, on a border, should allow you to
select it, too.
>>> I'm not sure if the text cursor is activated when clicking on the border (at
the moment I lack a working OOo 3.0 installation). But at the moment, there is
no functionality which requires such activation.

>>> Not very important if you can click on the anchor.

btw, double clicking on the anchor will put the cursor into the note

Apparently yes. Reassigning to spare time account.

For legal matters, in case 'cmc' wasn't the submitter himself (were you?), as
the submitters at it46.se grant Alberto Escudero-Pascual the right to contribute
the data to OOo and CLDR, see http://www.it46.se/localegen/copyright.php, I

Given the scenario that fails,
German OOo2.4.1 -> English OOo3.0RC1 -> German OOo2.4.1
I don't think there is anything we can do about this, other than teaching OOo2
the new 'of' namespace and function names.

OOo2 knows the Analysis Add-In functions by their programmatic name, in this
case com.sun.star.sheet.addin.Analysis.getErfc, whereas OOo3 stores the name
as defined by ODFF, here ERFC.

However, failing to find a match an English UI Calc also attempts to match the
English function name and so can read it correctly, but a German UI Calc does
not, it attempts to match the German name instead.

I am the author of fig2sxd. Recently I received a bug report that some polyline
with more than 5500 points was not converted correctly to ODF format. When
debugging, it turned out that the conversion was correct, but OOo (Draw) does
not display polylines correctly if the draw:points attribute is longer than
64kB.

Opening a drawing with a long polygon just below 64kB (attachment) shows the
complete line. Adding one point by mouse in OOo Draw to make the draw:points
attribute larger than 64kB, saving the drawing, and re-opening the file makes
the polyline invisible.

Been able to recreate with 100% success.

When I change the following line from:

"hello world hello world"

to:

1. hello world

and insert a carriage Writer autoformats changing it to this:

1.Hello world
2. hello world

However upon doing so the window then hides behind whatever window is underneath
the writer window. Writer is still in focus in a sense where I can still type
in it, I just can't see it at all as it is hidden behind another window now

1. Launch OOo Calc (it will open with a blank document).
 2. Double-click a cell and enter a date in the OS's (localized) date format –
e.g., 10/17/08
 3. If possible, verify that the entered value was taken as a date. For
example, after I had typed 10/17/08 and pressed Enter, I single-clicked the
cell; the Formula Bar displayed the contents as 10/17/2008 (adding the "20"),
confirming that the value was taken as a date.
 4. Save the file in Excel 97/2000/XP (*.xls) format.
 5. Open the file in Microsoft Works Spreadsheet 9.0
 6. Issue: the value that was entered in step 2 will be shown as a number
(e.g., 39738) instead of as a date.

This issue is of critical priority for my using OpenOffice.org, since I need to
share files with Microsoft Office users.
I do not have time to set cells manually to Date format (in the Calc main menu,
Format / Cells / Numbers).

I searched in the issue tracker for "save Excel date" and nothing came up.
If there is a setting in the current version of OOo that resolves this issue,
please point me to the documentation on it.
Thanks in advance for any help.

Double click on a CSV file in finder and it opens the import dialog in
openoffice. When you click on file and open and choose a second csv file it may
open it or it may stop functioning. The menu works sometimes open is grayed out
on the file menu. Open office will not shutdown or perform any other function.
The same ocurs if you double click on a second csv file in finder with one
already open in open office. This is version 3.

The only option is to force quit soffice.bin

No reason for a P1 here.
Please explain what you mean with default template and how you modify and save
it.

I'm now confused. I reinstalled 2.4.1, first converting the rpm's using
rmp2tgz. The install failed. It seems that the install scripts were run in the
wrong order, the newly installed files were deleted. I then reconverted using
alien (alien -t -c as root). This worked.

With this lead, I reconverted the 3.0 rpms and reinstalled. Now I get different
behavior, namely, a popup complaining about missing vcl files. I'm going to
attach the output of running under

strace -f -o foo -e open openoffice.org3
