Re: [Amsn-devel] Talk to a online contact while appearing offline

2007-03-12 Thread Youness Alaoui
why can't people understand the sentence search before asking, I'm sure it's
been answered at least 10 times
already in the forums... and this mailing list is NOT FOR USER SUPPORT, it's
for development related issues!!!
although you're talking about the implementation part of a feature, I sincerely
think that this should go in the
forums, either in the 'amsn development related issues' forum, or the 'feedback
and suggestions' forum.
search there and find your answer.
it can't be done unless we switch to the newer protocol.
end of the story

I just wanted to see if anyone was working on a way that you can talk to

possible to send offline messages while appearing offline though.

If no one else is working on this, I will have a look at the source myself

Right, I added the forget me button, it doesn't do exactly what it should
yet, it just calls DeleteProfile but of course it can't be deleted cos it's
locked :D so I'll sort that out later today probs. I also made the input
fields (user, pass, status) change size with window resizes. Let me know if
you think they should be less/more proportion of the window size, at the
moment it's 0.5.

Re: [Amsn-devel] New login screen - security flaw

2007-03-12 Thread Steve H

Updated to latest SVN (r8200) and issue is still there. However, create new
account now works so it's now even worse.

it should select back the last used profile, instead of the last logged in
username/password. - it doesn't do this

On 3/12/07, Youness Alaoui [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote:

as I said 'the latest svn version', maybe you should update your svn

whenever the login screen is shown, it
purges all the user list from it and recreates it, fetching the latest
profiles stored, and select the latest
used profile (in case you add a new profile, it allows the list of
profiles to be updated), so the current
behavior should be that after using a non-profile, when you logout, it
should select back the last used profile,
instead of the last logged in username/password.
I'm wodnering if we should keep it like this, or if we should at least
show the last username entered even if
the remember_me option is unchecked..
can you do a svn update and see if you can still find the issue you're
talking about ?

Re: [Amsn-devel] stats and next release

2007-03-12 Thread ARn0 vdv
Hi all,So let's answer some of KKRT's questions: 1) OIM: 1 - we keep it as
is, screw the proxy people, and screw those who think that the pc freezing for
a few minutes is a big deal 2 - rewrtie it, replacing 'tclsoap:;create' by
'http::geturl' ? --I'm not a dev, but the answer seems obvious: option 2,
replace tclsoap. It's true OIMs are really too slow, many people will report it
as a 'bug', complaining on the forum or whatever. 2) Audio/Video Assistant: 1
- replace the 'configure webcam' by the a/v settings and leave the firewall
thing elsewhere 2 - add a new step for network capabilities in the assistant
and replace the whole configure webcam button.
3 - leve the 'configure webcam' but change the webcam wizard (through the
button 'change webcam settings') by the assistant --Well, I'm not using any
webcam, so I really dunno about this feature. Let's move to the next
 question: 3) MSN Spaces: 1 - drop the feature 2 - complete it 3 - leave
it half-way done 4 - make it 'usable' but not 'wow it's great' --I also
think this feature should be available for 0.97, because so many users want
aMSN to be a clone of MSN/WLM, that if they saw it incomplete they would
dislike aMSN, and most of them want such a feature. Now (and it's the same
for every question I answer here), I'm not a dev, I'm speaking as an user...
 4) Skin:-- Gus' and Lee's job, so next question: 5) Order contacts by
status: advanced pref? the 'view' menu ? where ? -- I find it obvious to
put it in View Menu, with the rest of Order by... lines. I don't see why we
should put it elsewhere... It would really confuse users, that are already a
bit lost in all the prefs (especially Advanced)! 6) About Log-in Screen: --
There were no question, but I would like to give my opinion about it (updated
to rev 8200):Very nice feature, as I already said :)Two things I noticed: a)
the length of the field for e-mail adress/password/status is huge
compared to the length of anything else... Any reason I would have missed for
this? b) The forget_me button... I REALLY dislike this: it WILL cause many
problems to the users!! As KKRT said earlier, thousands of people just click
OK when a windows pop-up, without looking at it. Of course, we need to
allow the user to delete an account inside aMSN, but it shouldn't be there...
In the Prefs, or perhaps better: in the Account menu of the user, so that
no one can delete the account of someone (via aMSN of course) from the common
log-in screen. Or anything else, I dunno... But imagine a family of 3
children, where there's a little boy of 12 years old, that'll push this
button just to see, and delete all accounts... That's why I find it should
be hidden. Just MHO of course. 7) What about the stats: great idea :DI
always wondered if something like this existed :P Does someone have an idea
of the amount of people using aMSN over the world?I noticed one thing: aMSN
Plus! is the plug-in with the most downloads... And we all know how buggy it
is, and how much users encounter troubles because of it.Shouldn't we do
something about it? Enhance the code, doesn't allow it to be downloaded
again, create a new plug-in allowing the features currently supported by
aMSN Plus! ? Anything else? Date: Mon, 12 Mar 2007 10:48:53 -0400 To:
 amsn-devel@lists.sourceforge.net From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject:
[Amsn-devel] stats and next release Hello all, first I'll talk about the
next release (0.97) then I'll give you some stats that we get from our
website, thanks to lePhilousophe! so.. what about the next release ? huh
? well, it's taking too much time.. at the speed we're at, it will take a
really long time before we get it out, although we're almost there.. the
original deadline was april 1st, then I made it march 1st seeing how fast
development was, then it stalled.. so I hope we still get amsn out for
april 1st, ok ? so what's left for us ? well, here's the latest TODO list
for the next release : New Complete 0.97 TODO : - Implement OIM support
 (task # 133878 and # 135637) (billiob/lephilousophe) (make it work behind
 proxies)[1;5F - Finish the audio/video assitant (task # 124048) (billiob) -
Finish support for MSN spaces (task # 124063) (scapor/karel/kakaroto) (make
it work behind proxies) - Finish the new Skin - Add option to order
contacts by status or not in the CL - Complete the new login_screen feature
(task # 136722) (bluetit) I want to talk about each one of them one by
 one.. first : - Implement OIM support (task # 133878 and # 135637)
(billiob/lephilousophe) (make it work behind proxies) So far, the OIM
support seems to be COMPLETE, although the use of tclsoap makes it very very
slow, so I wonder if we should replace tclsoap with using the http command
directly, because we use NOTHING from tclsoap, lol, we generate the whole
xml ourself, and we parse the whole response ourself, so.. it's useless

I think we should have a Download Manager type thing, like opera's

in chronological order!

as I said in the other thread (but just to keep it all archived on the same

well placed, and the fields resizing to fit the screen, extremely good! BUT for
users with a maximized login

have a max size, so you do :

what do you think ?

I'm wodnering if we should keep it like this, or if we should at least

 Hi,
this mail is about the OIM system and stats...
First, OIMs. We all agree that TclSOAP isn't good at all currently...
But using http isn't as easy as Youness said because in fact we won't
use it... (Yeah that's bad I know) Because Http extension can't use
SOCKS proxies... So we will need to implement several things based on
 the authentication way...

Ok, those who were going crazy of what phil said, calm down, we found a
solution to socks +http, and we'll use
it ,so http package will still be used ;)

Second, about the stats... Youness decided to publish them here... Great
but the main aim wasn't to keep it secret... I just missed of time to
implement it in the new website and in addition, the stats weren't valid
in the first days... Now, they seem to be stable...
nah, never meant to be secret, it was just placed somewhere where you need a
 username/password. which is why I
published, until we put it public...

Anyway one trouble remains, the sorting of all these skins/plugins...
How can we achieve an efficient sorting. I mean that if we sort plugins
by downloads it will make these more downloaded and good unknown skins
will never be at the top...
hehe, exactly what I was thinking too :p

 If someone has an idea...
don't know.. maybe keep sorted by name, but add a 'view top 5' or 'view top
 10' link..
Didn't you notice that the TOP5 skins is composed with skins beginning
by a ? ;)

 Hello all,
first I'll talk about the next release (0.97) then I'll give you some stats
that we get from our website, thanks
 to lePhilousophe!
so.. what about the next release ? huh ? well, it's taking too much time..
at the speed we're at, it will take
a really long time before we get it out, although we're almost there..
the original deadline was april 1st,
then I made it march 1st seeing how fast development was, then it stalled..
so I hope we still get amsn out for
april 1st, ok ? so what's left for us ?
well, here's the latest TODO list for the next release :
 New Complete 0.97 TODO :
 - Implement OIM support (task # 133878 and # 135637) (billiob/lephilousophe)
  (make it work behind proxies)[1;5F
 - Finish the audio/video assitant (task # 124048) (billiob)
 - Finish support for MSN spaces (task # 124063) (scapor/karel/kakaroto)
  (make it work behind proxies)
 - Finish the new Skin
 - Add option to order contacts by status or not in the CL
 - Complete the new login_screen feature (task # 136722) (bluetit)

I want to talk about each one of them one by one.. first :
 - Implement OIM support (task # 133878 and # 135637) (billiob/lephilousophe)
  (make it work behind proxies)
So far, the OIM support seems to be COMPLETE, although the use of tclsoap
makes it very very slow, so I wonder
if we should replace tclsoap with using the http command directly, because
we use NOTHING from tclsoap, lol, we
generate the whole xml ourself, and we parse the whole response ourself,
so.. it's useless apart from adding an
incredibly huge overhead AND preventing us from adding proxy support..
so yes, the second point is that even if it's complete, we still don't have
support for proxies because it seems
almost impossible to do with tclsoap..
 so the question is :
1 - we keep it as is, screw the proxy people, and screw those who think
that the pc freezing for a few minutes
 is a big deal
 2 - rewrtie it, replacing 'tclsoap:;create' by 'http::geturl' ?

 - Finish the audio/video assitant (task # 124048) (billiob)
This seems to be finished and working pretty well! congrats on billiob! now
the thing is that we'll have to
integrate it with the prefs window, right now, it's in the chat
window-edit-edit a/v settings, but the old
webcam wizard is stil lin the prefs-other-configure webcam.
we couldn't replace it because that configure webcam still ha sinfo about
 whether you're firewalled or not,
etc.. so we could either :
1 - replace the 'configure webcam' by the a/v settings and leave the
 firewall thing elsewhere
3 - leve the 'configure webcam' but change the webcam wizard (through the
 button 'change webcam settings') by
 the assistant
2 - add a new step for network capabilities in the assistant and replace
 the whole configure webcam button.

 - Finish support for MSN spaces (task # 124063) (scapor/karel/kakaroto)
  (make it work behind proxies)
well well.. this seems to be completely stalled.. so .. what do we want to
 do now :
 1- drop the feature
 2 - complete it
 3- leave it half-way done
4 - make it 'usable' but not 'wow it's great'

 - Finish the new Skin
humm.. it looks good so far ? I suppose Gus has kept all the comments in
his own TODO list, so I don't know how
far we're away from completing the new skin.. for now, let's try and make
it 'look nice', I like it very much
 the way it is

Ok, those who were going crazy of what phil said, calm down, we found a

Second, about the stats... Youness decided to publish them here... Great
but the main aim wasn't to keep it secret... I just missed of time to

nah, never meant to be secret, it was just placed somewhere where you need a

published, until we put it public...

Anyway one trouble remains, the sorting of all these skins/plugins...
How can we achieve an efficient sorting. I mean that if we sort plugins

hehe, exactly what I was thinking too :p

 If someone has an idea...
don't know.. maybe keep sorted by name, but add a 'view top 5' or 'view top

Didn't you notice that the TOP5 skins is composed with skins beginning

 Hello all,
first I'll talk about the next release (0.97) then I'll give you some stats
that we get from our website, thanks
 to lePhilousophe!
so.. what about the next release ? huh ? well, it's taking too much time..
at the speed we're at, it will take
a really long time before we get it out, although we're almost there..
the original deadline was april 1st,
then I made it march 1st seeing how fast development was, then it stalled..
so I hope we still get amsn out for
april 1st, ok ? so what's left for us ?
well, here's the latest TODO list for the next release :

 2 - rewrtie it, replacing 'tclsoap:;create' by 'http::geturl' ?

 - Finish the audio/video assitant (task # 124048) (billiob)
This seems to be finished and working pretty well! congrats on billiob! now
the thing is that we'll have to
integrate it with the prefs window, right now, it's in the chat
window-edit-edit a/v settings, but the old
webcam wizard is stil lin the prefs-other-configure webcam.
we couldn't replace it because that configure webcam still ha sinfo about
 whether you're firewalled or not,
etc.. so we could either :
1 - replace the 'configure webcam' by the a/v settings and leave the
 firewall thing elsewhere
3 - leve the 'configure webcam' but change the webcam wizard (through the
 button 'change webcam settings') by
 the assistant
2 - add a new step for network capabilities in the assistant and replace
 the whole configure webcam button.

 - Finish support for MSN spaces (task # 124063) (scapor/karel/kakaroto)
  (make it work behind proxies)
well well.. this seems to be completely stalled.. so .. what do we want to
 do now :
 1- drop the feature
 2 - complete it
 3- leave it half-way done
4 - make it 'usable' but not 'wow it's great'

 - Finish the new Skin
humm.. it looks good so far ? I suppose Gus has kept all the comments in
his own TODO list, so I don't know how
far we're away from completing the new skin.. for now, let's try and make
it 'look nice', I like it very much
 the way it is

Yesterday evening, i couldn't send oim to Phil because i got
 authentication failed.
I've disconnected and connected again, but it wasn't better. And today
 it's working fine.
Still server issues :( but we can't tackle that issue.
 About s/tclsoap::create/http::geturl/, i really don't know.

server issues, we can't do nothing about them... that's the 'best' we currently
have... if WLM fails, we fail,
noone is to blame (at least, not us).
about the s/tclsoap/http/ Phil is already working on it (good boy:p), we'll be
able to replace tclsoap by http
(easy) and now we might have a solution for socks and http proxy for those
requests...
Phil also found out that SOCKS5 is never used for the authentification!
that's why some socks5 people can't
connect..

hehe,
ok, well, it could be a simple step :
Checking your connectivity :
You are firewalled or behind a router (or Your ports are well cofnigured)
Choose webcam starting port : [ ] [Test]
...
something like that, just like what we already have...
and btw, here.. take a look at our little friend, WLM.. look at how they did
it!!! bastards :@ lol
http://kakaroto.homelinux.net/~kakaroto/connection.jpg

and btw, how funny is it, look, you can't configure your http proxy server and
port, it says :
Please set HTTP proxy server and port using Internet Explorer..
LOL :D

anyways, we don't want anything fancy like that, but the options screen on the
left is good, some kind of image
showing the pc, the internet, the router... and saying whether you're
connectable or not, allow you to change
your inbound port and test it, that should be enough..
about the lowrescam, no, it's not necessary, the network step isn't to
configure bandwidth usage, it's just to
see if you are behind a router, or have forwarded your ports, etc...

No, it's really not worth it, unless your connection is DAMN SLOW. IIRC,

Ok, would be nice if we can filter out html (hoping it doesn't bounce all mails
with html), so we need a ML list
admin to look into that and see if that option exists or not.
The two admins for amsn-devel are alvaro and vivia, so either one of you, could
you please look into it if you
get time ?
thank you both!

p.s.: snipe's mail had html+text, but text had no newlines and html had the

Right now the option is enabled:

Should Mailman convert text/html parts to plain text? This conversion
happens after MIME attachments have been stripped. = Yes

Maybe the conversion is not good? Should we try disabling it?

Greets.

humm.. yeah, maybe that's why it stripped out the newlines...
I prefer not to disable it, otherwise, I'll probably just see a bunch of html
tags.. we have two choices :
1 - snipe stops using html emails!! :@
2 - we report it to SF so they can fix their mailman

I choose both solutions! :D

Thanks Alvaro for taking care of it.

Re: [Amsn-devel] 0.97 TODO :: network settings ?

2007-03-12 Thread Karel Demeyer

I'm gonna answer here to be quick;
Why is there a network step in the Webcam assistant ? From a user's
point of view it doesn't belong there at all. Network settings are for aMSN
as a whole. If you want the assistant to be more like a set up aMSN for
usage assistant instead of for webcam/audio only, then it has to be called
otherwise and not as Edit AV settings... from a menu.

I'd vote for a network tab in preferences instead where all network-stuff
would be placed. We already have some of those network settings in the
preferences window. Maybe on the last page of teh webcam assistant there
could be a phrase like If you have problems with connecting, check your
amsn _network_ settings. Also, can we get some info about network settings
(proxies for example) from out desktop environment (windows registry,
gnome's gconf, kde, mac ?)

Karel.
