[android-beginners] Detecting a Tidal Wave of Android Apps
Hi all, Flurry, as you may know from previous emails, has been supporting Android since we launched our mobile application analytics service this January. This month, we measured the most significant spike to date of android developer activity within our system. We're very excited about the upcoming launch of several more Android handsets and see the correlation between major android handset launches and developer support. We shared some stats with Om Malik at GigaOm who has been closely following the Android story unfold since the beginning. You can read his take on take on Android and what's to come at: http://gigaom.com/2009/10/26/will-there-be-an-android-app-boom-soon/ Best regards, Peter Farago VP Marketing www.flurry.com Follow us: http://blog.flurry.com http://twitter.com/FlurryMobile --~--~-~--~~~---~--~~ You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups Android Beginners group. [android-beginners] Re: Music: file names, album recognition, etc?
I found a solution on a Russian-speaking Google Wave devoted to Android! By the way, I encourage everybody to join Google Wave ASAP (no, I already used all my invitations). A solution, or should I say - a workaround? - is to use Meridian Player instead of Android's own Music Player. http://sites.google.com/site/eternalsandbox/Home As I was told on Meridian's forum, Yes, it is an Android's media scanner issue, and I also don't know what's the actual behavior of the auto scanning. Before 1.1 it will do a full scan each time replugging SD card, but now it does not. Even manually invoke (by Meridian) sometimes fail...Hope they can fix this soon. http://groups.google.com/group/meridian_android/browse_thread/thread/d3da70a557f1d545?hl=en I wonder why Meridian developers know that, while Google Android developers do not :( On Oct 26, 11:37 am, b_nny jonsson.be...@gmail.com wrote: I have the same problem... :-( On 19 Okt, 18:24, Vladimir Kelman vkel...@gmail.com wrote: Had anyone experienced the following issue? For some reason, Android (HTC == DevPhone 1 with Android 1.6 installed, 16 Gb SD card) is not indexingmp3files. After I first mounted Android USB on my PC and put some p3 files to a folder on SD card, Android indexed some files, but not all. I tried different things, and finally deleted all the albums trough Android UI. As I see after connecting through USB to my computer, actualmp3files are still sitting on SD card. Then, no matter what I do (delete files, add them back, move to a different location), Android does not indexmp3 files any more, leaving Albums/Songs/Artists empty. Funny thing, I installed Astro File Managerhttp://www.androlib.com/android.application.com-metago-astro-qzq.aspx; it seesmp3files on a SD card and, while clicking on them, launching Music Player. But these files stays un-indexed thus invisible through a normal Music Player interface. Vot could prevent Android from indexingmp3files? [android-beginners] installing android 2.0 sdk on 64-bit fedora 11?
as a total beginner to the android sdk, i'm just about to try to install, from scratch, the new 2.0 sdk on a 64-bit version of fedora 11 (which will hopefully be equivalent to installing on a 64-bit fedora 12 as well). has anyone already done this? based on what i've read so far, my immediate issues will be: * since this is a 64-bit OS, i'll need to install a number of 32-bit compatibility libs (there's no 64-bit android sdk, right?) * does this new sdk work with the java 1.6.0 openjdk that comes with fedora, or do i still need the 1.5 sun version? * which version of eclipse can i use with this new sdk? i think those are my immediate concerns. thanks. rday -- Robert P. The map loaded, zoomed out OK, and showed the bubbles with details when I tapped them. I had to set the zoom to close and text size to huge in order to actually read the text, though, and then it overflowed the popups. The controls were tiny as well. It would be tough to tap them on a real phone. The D-PAD would only select the Google logo, terms and report a problem links, and the Map/Sat/Ter controls. It wouldn't select the other controls. The link I was using for testing was the top Google search result for google maps essex hauntings:http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?ie=UTF8hl=enoe=UTF8msa=0msid=10708... This looks like it was made by the My Maps feature, although it probably isn't the one created by the OP. Anyway, just reporting that the quickest method of just using the URL that works for desktops doesn't seem viable. There may be some way to embed a simpler version on a web page and use that URL. I know the Google Maps API you use for making web pages explicitly mentions Android:http://code.google.com/apis/maps/documentation/v3/#Mobile I've seen that the Google Maps app on Android 2.0 has an option in the main menu called Layers which pops up a dialog with an option called More layers which then offers My Maps , Wikipedia, and Transit Lines. So it looks like Google may be adding support for My Maps to their own Google Maps application in Android 2.0. If I were going to write a custom Android app to show the OP's My Map, I would be tempted to generalize it to work with any available My Map out there. I want one of my activity's to be a menu, which looks like a common old ListView, with an icon and two lines of text in each. I only have 5 items but each one's touch action should be different, say one will start a new activity, one will activate a datePicker, one will open a browser and so on, also i would like to able to change the text on the menu items programmatically. I'm confused as all the ListActivty / ListView examples ive seen have been building the lists from arrays, cursors, or some other organised data source, with each selection of a list item resulting in the same type of action being performed, say exposing some extra text. What would anyones advice be on how to go about what i'm doing, is listView inapproproate for this, should I just be declaring the whole thing in XML as LinearLayouts with child views and ignoring the listView classes? It's a little to much to explain here, have a read of: http://developer.android.com/guide/practices/ui_guidelines/activity_task_design.html and http://developer.android.com/guide/topics/fundamentals.html But basically pressing [home] puts your task into the background, it does NOT finish it (even though the process may be killed). [android-beginners] Re: Android RSS Reader, Please Help
I don't think posting up up every 2 hours is going to help any... M3 is a seriously obsolete release, which dates before Android had any kind of stable API in place. If you really want help porting your code, you might as well start by listing the compilation errors you get. I also noticed you mentioned you were using the 1.5 SDK -- you might want to switch to the latest 2.0 SDK. I don't know about the DrawingCache. [android-beginners] Re: listen for when my app is installed
ehhh ... they are sample files that the user is allowed to edit. i was trying to keep track of things, like when the user edits an asset file, copy it to the sdcard and ignore the asset file from then on ... and doing something like when the user removes the file, mark it removed by adding a *-removed file to the SD card. all of that was getting confusing. it's much simpler if i can just assume one location for file where i know they can be edited without having to worry about this r/o file mirror in another place. as suggested, i just have some code in onCreate() that copies the assets to the SD card, if they don't exist there already. simple and easy. i was over complicating things by trying to listen for app installation. [android-beginners] How to add a dialog in a AppWidget

[android-beginners] Re: What does the Home button do?
Thanks RicharDC This explains a lot. Why the MyTracks is always there using up my battery, and more to the point why my application that uses a Camera fails sometimes. I think I'm sure I want to go right back to OFF when the user presses Home or Back. Do regular users understand this or am I lacking some gene required to operate a cell-phone. The example of moving from email to Gallery etc is interesting. My thrust is to keep the app predictable. Starting from the same place is predictable. Snap a picture, send it in, stop. Snap a picture, fiddle with the settings, send in the picture, do it again, stop. It seems to me I have to end in a stop except where the sequence is interrupted by a phone call, and that works fine already. I think what I'd like is to intercept the Home button and finish() my whole task. I'll look into this in the morning. [android-beginners] Any suggestions on how to save and XML DOM back to a file?
Hello, I have this app that's reading in an xml file into a document object. usually with code like this. Java: InputStream in=openFileInput(file.xml); DocumentBuilder builder=DocumentBuilderFactory.newInstance ().newDocumentBuilder(); Document doc=builder.parse(in, null); certainelements=doc.getElementsByTagName(elementname); then i would make changes to the some of the element attributes. But I'd like to save it back to a file. The snippets I've found on the net involve some of the following packages import javax.xml.transform.Transformer; import javax.xml.transform.TransformerFactory; import javax.xml.transform.TransformerException; import javax.xml.transform.TransformerConfigurationException; import javax.xml.transform.dom.DOMSource; import javax.xml.transform.stream.StreamResult; import org.apache.xml.serialize.XMLSerializer; none of which seem to be a part of android (at least according to eclipse) my question is how do I save the contents of the document object back to a file then? I'd like to save only the changes I made but I don't mind if I overwrite the whole file. I was thinking I could output it to a string and just use the Working with Files tutorial to save that string back to the file, but I don't know how to do that either. Any assistance is appreciated. --~--~-~--~~~---~--~~ You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups Android Beginners group.
