Hi Pat,

Nice to hear that there’s been some progress with your install. I will ask
around to see if I can find someone with experience installing Arches on a Vbox
Virtual machine. So far, I’m not aware of anyone, but I hope to find some
support for you. Keep us posted on your progress. Thanks!

A little progress.

The failure to build wheels has been cured by invoking:

$ pip install wheel

before

$pip install arches

arches now installs OK.

Hello again,

This really is not a DOS attack.

I have installed the dependencies as per the script from github, and am now
trying to install Arches itself by following the documentation for V5.0.

$ mkdir Projects && cd Projects
Works fine

$ python -m venv /path/to/new/ENV
This invoked python 2.7, complaining about not knowing what a venv was. I also
had to work out what the path should be. It would help beginners like me to
have an example to follow, though I do recognise that you can choose other
places to put the environment. Non-beginners who are up to choosing a different
place are most likely to be able to work out the command to use so I suggest
replacing this in the docs with:
$ python3 -m venv ~/Projects/env

$ source env/bin/activate
OK

Hi Angela,

We are happy to hear this news! We congratulate Coherit Associates LLC and
everyone involved. We’ve been following your activities in Barbados and
Jamaica, including the outreach and training with the local communities. It’s
exciting to see the outcome of your work in these live Arches implementations.

We would like to feature both instances on the Arches
Implementations<https://www.archesproject.org/implementations-of-arches/> page
of our website. Please let me know if you would like for us to include them.

Thanks for sharing the news with the Arches community!

I'm excited to share with the Arches community two more installations that are
live!

  * The Jamaica National Inventory of Historic
Places<https://siteinventory.jnht.com/>, managed by the Jamaica National
Heritage Trust: https://siteinventory.jnht.com/

  * The Barbados National Registry of Historic
Places<https://heritagebarbados.gov.bb/>, managed by the Ministry of Creative
Economy, Culture and Sports: https://heritagebarbados.gov.bb/
Both sites were part of an initiative to establish and improve
community-driven, national inventories/registers in the region as part of the
Organization of American States<http://www.oas.org/en/sedi/desd/ct/default.asp>
project, "Enhancing the Framework for the Development of a Heritage Economy in
the Caribbean". The project was funded by the Permanent Mission of the United
States to the Organization of American States.

We congratulate the governments of Barbados and Jamaica for their hard work in
establishing and launching their inventories and community engagement campaigns
(an especially challenging feat during COVID-19 curfews and work-from-home
orders!).

Technical expertise in establishing the programs, customizing Arches, and
training was provided by my firm, Coherit Associates LLC. Arches installation
and server administration was provided by LegionGIS.

We recognize David Myers, Alison Dalgity, and Alina Myklebust at GCI, who
provided guidance and support in implementing Arches in the region. And we so
appreciate the ongoing technical support provided by members of this community!

Thank you to everyone who collaborated in this effort!

Re: [Arches] Very Basic steps

2020-08-27 Thread Alina Myklebust
Greetings, and thank you for your interest in Arches. I understand you want to
explore the software and you are looking for basic steps to get started. To
explore Arches, I recommend trying out the recently updated Arches Version 5
Demo. Also, earlier this month, we
offered a guided tour of the demo site via webinar. The information in the
webinar is very useful to understand how to best navigate the demo site and get
the most out it. You can find all the webinar materials here:
www.archesproject.org/videos

Regarding Arches installation and implementation, it does require technical
competency so I recommend working with an IT professional. To find out about
the technical skills and requirements involved in installing and implementing
Arches, please refer to the Implementation
Considerations
document.

By trying out the demo site and consulting the implementation considerations,
you can better assess if Arches is a good fit for your data management needs.

All the best,

Alina

[Arches] Re: Arches Collector Configuration - couchdb problem

2020-07-23 Thread Alina Myklebust
Hi Kuba,

Thanks for your message about your work and current issue with Arches
Collector. It is helpful to know that your Arches instance is behind a
reversed proxy, as that may have something to do with the sync problem.
I'll get back to you once I look into it further, unless someone else here
responds first.

Best,

Re: [Arches] Arches V.5 - Arches package

2020-06-30 Thread Alina Myklebust
Hi Elishai,

We are excited to hear that you and Yael Alef are working together on an
Arches pilot for the Israeli Cultural Heritage Inventory. In your message,
you mentioned your interest in seeing a detailed full user guide of Arches.
Our most complete documentation on installing and using Arches is
available here:

https://arches.readthedocs.io/en/stable/

Also, recently, a community collaboration effort has begun to bring the the
documentation up-to-date with the recent changes related to the Version 5
release. If you wish to participate in this community effort, please
refer to this forum post:

https://groups.google.com/g/archesproject/c/Ytd5xndIgl8/m/uJ2o85ceBAAJ

On the topic of user guides, we have seen examples of user guides published
by organization's implementing Arches. Recently, Jersey Heritage posted
user guides specific for their Arches instance. You can see their guides
here:

I hope this information is helpful as you continue to work with Arches.
Please keep us posted on your progress! Thanks!

Hello from Belfast,

Just to reach out - one for infrastructure folks, (posting here rather than
arches-dev, as it's likely of particular relevance to teams deploying Arches,
as much as on the development side).

We have been working on adapting the Arches 5.0 docker setup to Kubernetes, and
made progress. Is anybody else actively looking at this themselves, and/or
interested in collaborating on Helm charts?

With best wishes

Re: [Arches] Re: v5 documentation

2020-05-15 Thread Alina Myklebust
Hello everyone,

It's great to hear there is interest to structure and improve documentation
for v5! Thanks Adam for suggesting a co-coordinated group effort to make
it happen.

At this time, I'm aware of nearly a dozen projects currently in the process
of installing/implementing Version 5. It would be great to see a few more
users/implementors contribute some time to this effort! If you are
currently working on v5, are you interested and willing to join Adam,
Angela and Neil in a documentation sprint?? As I've heard many times the
past years, good documentation is one of the single most valuable resources
for implementors and developers. Thank you for your consideration!

All the best,

Alina

[Arches] Re: New Arches community in Merced California

2020-04-15 Thread Alina Myklebust
Hi Anaïs,

Thanks for sharing this update with us! We look forward to following your
progress via your social media channels. Which Arches version are you
implementing (v4 or v5)?

In the past, I know you've traveled often to present and share your work
with colleagues around the world. What are some alternatives you are
considering during this non-travel period?

Thanks again for bringing this to our attention so we can learn more about
your project.

Best,

Alina

Hi Angela,

I also experienced a similar issue with syncing dates using the Collector
app in version 4.4.3. If I recall correctly, the issue was logged in
Github.

I'll check with the app developers to see if there is an update.

[Arches] Re: Updated Arches Roadmap - What's new in 2020?

2020-01-02 Thread Alina Myklebust
Hi David,

Thanks so much for your feedback on the roadmap. I imagine there will be
many discussions/conversations in the coming weeks/months about this new
ArcGIS
integration development. I'll ask others to chime in here too, because
I'm certain there have been thoughts and considerations related to
integration with QGIS too.

Thanks again and Happy New Year!

Very best,

Alina

I'm not familiar with this particular issue, but I hope someone else here

verify if it's worked over https?
Our team tested over http.

Greetings all,

The webinar recording and transcript *(Intro to the Arches Platform - Part
1: Capabilities and Q)* are now available online:

Webinar Video <https://youtu.be/_0x1YjeSfmI>

Full Webinar Transcript (PDF)
<https://www.archesproject.org/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/ARP_Wbnr_Transcript_191017-1.pdf>

FYI, due to the technical issues we experienced with the video
demonstrations, we decided to re-record the first 20 minutes of the
webinar. It’s the first time we tried Zoom <http://www.apple.com> for
Webinars, and we are still figuring out small details to improve the
webinar experience for all.

The date for the next webinar* - Intro the Arches Platform (Part 2)- Data
Management Tools -* will be announced soon.

Thanks to everyone who participated and we hope you will join us again next
time!

Cheers,

[Arches] Re: Adding Labels to Resources on Map

2019-10-23 Thread Alina Myklebust
Hi Adam,

Were you able to figure out if it can be done that way? There was a related
question during the webinar Q session this past August. Here it is:

Community Question 6a: Can you give an overview of displaying spatial data
in Arches for a non-GIS audience?

Yeah. So this is a question we get a lot, and it's a good one because it
really points, again, to this question of importing or access and data from
Arches, to within Arches, but from a different system. So I said earlier,
Arches is more than just the GIS because it can manage time and topology
and all these things. I didn't mean to imply that it isn't the GIS because
it really is. At its base, Arches provides all the same features and
functionality that you would expect from an enterprise-scale GIS. And that
includes being able to display spatial data, both data managed by Arches
and data that you might be managing in a traditional GIS system as well.

And the bottom line is, Arches has all the tools that you need to identify,
sort of define the data that you want to publish on a map, and the ability
for you to define how it's styled, so what colors and where the zoom levels
and all the kind of detailed cartographic decisions that you can make,
Arches can implement an open specification for defining all that. So the
short kind of non-technical answer is, you have really all the same
flexibility that you would have with the traditional GIS in deciding what
you want to show on a map and how do you want to style it so that it shows
off or displays the important aspects of your data to best effect.

So hopefully, that's a reasonable answer. If people want to go into more
detail, I'll wait to see if someone posts a question to the chat.

Best,

Alina

Subject: [Arches] EnvironmentError: [Error 5] Access is Denied

Hi all,

I am getting stuck with the initial install of Arches (using the Arches
Development
Environment
documentation). Please see attached images of my command line error:

ERROR: Could not install packages due to an EnvironmentError: [Error 5] Access
is denied:
'c:\\users\\lgant\\appdata\\local\\temp\\pip-unpack-do_4uq\\Django-1.11.15-py2.py3-none-any.whl'
Consider using the `--user` option or check the permissions.

I am using Python 2.7.13 (as recommended) and added the necessary variables for
pip to PATH (as I was previously having errors finding and using pip install).
I am installing in a virtual environment (ENV) in a Windows OS.

Adam Cox recommended backslash instead of forward slash for the command 'pip
install -r arches\install\requirements.txt' but this resulted in the same error.

I also tried the following command: python -m pip install --user -r
arches\install\requirements.txt

This resulted in the following error:

ERROR: Can not perform a '--user' install. User site-packages are not visible
in this virtualenv.

Any suggestions are welcome!

Thanks,

Lindsey

already seen some of the fantastic work Vincent Meijer has done on behalf of
Global Heritage Fund to extend viewers in Arches like 3D HOP and Sketchfab.

[Arches] Re: Digital Spatial Documentation of Heritage - Arches Newbie

2019-09-06 Thread Alina Myklebust
Hi Sarah,

Thank you for connecting with the Arches community here. It's great to
hear about your project and potential Arches implementation. You have
probably already seen some of the fantastic work Vincent Meijer has done on
behalf of Global Heritage Fund to extend viewers in Arches like 3D HOP and
Sketchfab.

Regarding support, this community forum is the best place to connect with
other Arches implementors. Also, early next week, we are updating the
current Implementation Considerations
 on the
Arches Project website, and I do think you will find it very valuable. A
long time Arches community member, Adam Cox, worked on it with us recently.

As soon as it's been updated on the website, I will share the link here.

Best,

Alina
Arches Project Team

Hello,

Thank you for connecting here on the Arches Forum and thanks to everyone
who has responded to the install questions so far. I understand you may
be looking into the Arches demo site and public implementations suggested
by Adam Cox. As others have mentioned, that’s a great place to start.

Regarding installation of Arches, generally, it does require a certain
level of technical skills and experience. If you find that your good
efforts don’t result in a successful install, I recommend working with an
IT service provider familiar with setting up an enterprise level system
like Arches. In addition to the install, you may also need support with
basic configuration and customization depending on your intended use.

Also, it would be very helpful for us, if you introduced yourself and told
us more about your project. One of our community members started a
signing-in post and you can find it here:

https://groups.google.com/d/msg/archesproject/K8LGizXh1a0/TAIyXMYmwgUJ

If possible, I may be able to connect you to someone who has undergone an
implementation similar to the one you are considering and that can be very
helpful in your assessment process.

Thanks for your interest in Arches and I look forward to hearing more about
your project!

[Arches] Re: EASY installation guide for anyone

2019-03-07 Thread Alina Myklebust
Greetings Nicole,

Thank you for your question and welcome to the Arches community. Arches is
an enterprise level technology platform, therefore, installation of Arches
is a more involved process and is most suited to someone familiar with
running software on a server and working from a command line. Due to
various software dependencies, there is no single link to install Arches,
as is more common with stand-alone desktop applications. To get a better
sense of what’s involved in deployment (including installation as the first
of several steps), I recommend reviewing the following online resources:

[Arches] Re: Arches 4.4.1 released

2019-03-04 Thread Alina Myklebust
Thanks for the announcement, Cyrus! The added data migration workflow from
v3 to v4 is a big plus for the many v3 Arches implementations that haven't
yet migrated to v4.

Cheers,

Alina

Re: [Arches] Re: Where to find Arches documentation?

2019-03-04 Thread Alina Myklebust
Hi Adam,

Great to see Arches Collector documentation in Read the Docs. Thank you for
this resource!

https://arches.readthedocs.io/en/stable/using-arches-collector/#

Is there or will there be documentation on creating/setting up a "Project"
in Arches Collector Manager? We plan on having a dedicated web page to
Arches Collector on archesproject.org and I'm in the process of identifying
all documentation and content related to Arches Collector. Any leads on
additional documentation in the works is appreciated.

Thanks, Adam!

[Arches] Re: Other Arches live installations

2019-02-26 Thread Alina Myklebust
Hi Vincent, I started looking through the various records and it's very
impressive. Thank you so much for sharing it here.

Has Global Digital Heritage shared any of this on social media yet or any
write-ups on their website/blog? At first glance, I didn't come across any
published content. We would be interested in spreading the word. Thanks
again for bringing this to our attention!
