  Hi Guys !

Even though it was termed as a Private Concert still i think there
wer around 10 - 15 thousands
And sadly most of them, actually majority of them were really dull.
Just sitting in their seats and eatin rather than singing along.
For A RahManiac like me this dream of seeing my GURU live wudn't hav
been possible without the help of the group.
Been hearing him since 1992, been loving him since 1998 and now
finally was able to see him on Feb 9th 2008, i hope sumday i will b
able to actually meet him!!!

[arr] Chennai concert in detail ( Thanks to Aparna)

2008-02-10 Thread Vithur
*

*
**
*February 9th, 2008* - Little did we expect that exactly an year later, we
will get to see A.R.Rahman again and that too see him perform live in a
concert!

Seeing the ad on the newspaper on the 7th morning, my father told my sister
and she immediately registered on the website. We checked our e-mails only
yesterday morning and saw that we had got an e-mail from Marg group that we
had won a pass for the concert! We couldn't believe it! We immediately went
to Marg's office in Old Mahabalipuram Road and collected our passes.

We reached the venue (YMCA Ground, Nandanam) at around 5:45 pm for the
concert that was supposed to start at 7 pm. A queue, not that long, had
already formed outside the entrance to the closed enclosure of the ground,
doubled up as auditorium. But as more and more people started coming, the
security folks asked people to form a queue outside another entrance. We ran
to the other entrance and joined the queue, there with only a few people
being in front of us. We could hear the sounds of the mike testing that was
in progress at that time. It wasn't until 6:15 pm that we were let in. The
first few rows were reserved for the VIPs, then a large number of rows for
the employees of Marg. We managed to get chairs in the second row after all
the reserved rows. With all the sound checks getting over by 6:30 pm, the
next one hour turned out to be a long wait with the excitement building up
with each passing moment.

Finally at around 7:40 pm, Rakshanda Khan came on stage and announced that
A.R.Rahman's concert will start after a short concert by Guitar
Prasanna! *Guitar
Prasanna*, along with *Haridwaramangalam A.K.Pazhanivel* (Tavil), *
S.Karthick* (Ghatam), *B.S.Purushottaman* (Khanjira), *R.Raman* (Morsing)
and *Keith Peters* (Bass Guitar), performed *Taaye tirupurasundari *(raaga
Suddha Saveri), Peaceful (a composition of Prasanna himself that happens to
be my favourite as well), *Alaipayuthey* (raaga Kanada) and 31 (again
Prasanna's composition). Before playing *Alaipayuthey*, Prasanna said that
on the occasion of Rahman's concert, he felt it appropriate to play a
Carnatic song popularized by Rahman. As usual, Prasanna's concert was
superb!

After Prasanna's concert, Mr. Reddy, the chairman & MD of Marg group, and
his wife lighted the *kutthuviLakku*. Then Mr. Reddy invited A.R.Rahman and
one more person onto the stage! There was excitement everywhere and a huge
round of applause followed when Rahman came on stage! They all spoke for a
few minutes and then, a presentation on Marg's project was shown twice while
there was a wonderful display of fireworks on the sky.

After this, finally at around 8:40 pm, A.R.Rahman's concert started and the
next two hours that followed will be etched in my memory forever! [image:
:)]

*Blaaze* first came on stage and said that this was a special show since
this happens to be the first concert of Rahman's in 2008. He also said that
*Hariharan, Chinmayee, Chitra, Benny, Ujjaynee, Neeti, Naresh Iyer* and *
Aslam* will be performing in the concert. The concert then started with
Jaage Hain.

*1. **Jaage Hain - A.R.Rahman & Chitra*
As Chitra's sweet voice greeted us with the words 'Jaage Hain', our eyes
were busy searching for Rahman and then he came and the crowd went mad!
Listening to Rahman sing the song live was such an amazing experience!
Open-air audi, cool breeze surprisingly blowing in Madras, Rahman singing
Jaage Hain right in front of my eyes - if this is not bliss, then what else
is?! My eyes refused to believe that it was really Rahman who was singing in
front of me [image: ;)]

*2. Khalbhali - A.R.Rahman*
As the soft Jaage Hain concluded, Khalbhali started with electrifying beats!
Singing the two completely contrast songs back to back with perfection,
Rahman seemed to be in top form! When Rahman sang 'Ziddi ziddi', the crowd
went mad and the way he concluded the song with ziddi ziddi was superb!
Naveen played some awesome flute interludes in the song and those were just
the beginning of the many more wonderful flute interludes to come in the
concert.

*3. Kadhal Rojave - Chinmayee & Hariharan*
I first couldn't guess from the voice that it was Chinmayee who was humming.
Hariharan's voice along with Naveen's flute, that was making an appearance
throughout the song here and there, made the whole song all the more
wonderful!

*4. Barso Re - Neeti*
Naveen's flute was so beautiful for this song that it made me wish that
Neeti would stop singing and Naveen alone could play! Anyway Neeti's singing
didn't appeal to me much.

*5. Lose Control (Be a Rebel) - Naresh Iyer & Blaaze*
Super beats, Blaaze' Rap and Naresh's *Apni to paathshaala*!

*6. Marilyn Monroe - Ujjaynee & Benny*
This song has not been among my favourite songs of Rahman's. But after
watching Ujjaynee & Benny sing with so much energy levels, Ujjaynee going
ooh oooh ooh, saturday night partykku pogalaam variy

[arr] Al risalah - itwofs review

2008-02-10 Thread Vithur
Rahman's Marhaba Mustapha is perhaps the only highlight of al Risalah's
soundtrack. Rahman delineates his track from the other routine, devotional
tracks in the soundtrack by beautifully blending the mod musical elements we
expect from him. This is considerably more devout than his other filmy,
devotional songs like Piya haji ali or even Khwaja mere khwaja. It is more
resonant, and going by Rahman's vocals, from the heart. The other composers
– Raj Verma and Liyakat Ajmeri - struggle with archaic, radio-styled
compositions while Rahman delivers a knock-out single worthy of the
prominent 'Song by A.R.Rahman' tag below the film's title!

[arr] Jodhaa-Akbar: God save the Queen (and King)

2008-02-10 Thread Vithur
*http://passionforcinema.com/jodhaa-akbar-god-save-the-queen-and-king/*
**
*A PLEA TO THE MAKERS OF JODHAA-AKBAR*

I feel like pulling my hair out. UTV Motion pictures and Ashutosh Gowariker-
what is wrong with you guys?

It's less than a week for the release of what is the biggest magnum opus
this year and what should be the most awaited film to hit the screen in a
long time, and yet, strangely- though not very surprisingly- there barely
seems to be any buzz at all. Other than, of course the usual yawn-inducing
controversies that almost always seem to hound historical films made in
India, any real excitement over the film really escapes even a hardcore
Gowariker fan like me.

Can't the producers see the writing on the bloody wall? Just making a good
film simply doesn't suffice- you have to first get bums on seats- period.
And I don't see the makers of *Jodhaa-Akbar *doing enough to ensure that the
theatres remain housefull atleast through the first weekend.

Today is the time of *ghor kalyug* at the box office, of aggressive
hardsell, of driving people nuts with your publicity drive to the extent
that they sing *Dard-e-Disco *(*or Saawariya*) in their sleep. To hell with
the ridiculous theory that says that 'a good film always works'- it doesn't
take a rocket scientist to know that is just politically correct crap.

I can bet that atleast half of the people who watched *Heyy Babyy* or *Om
Shanti Om* did not even like them- and that atleast 25 percent regret having
ever seen them, feeling embarrassed and wincing at the very thought that
they are the reason why Farah Khan and Sajid Khan can continue to boast
revoltingly about their cinematic achievements and why we are poorer than a
few hundred rupees.

*Jodhaa-Akbar*'s publicity campaign has been nothing short of a mess- the
completion of production and date of release getting delayed so many times
have considerably quietened the hype surrounding the film. To make matters
worse, we have a drab and poorly cut first promo, and then the music comes
into stores barely a month before the release.

Gowariker's style of filmmaking is sublime, gentle- almost flowing with the
serenity of a river- and that aspect is also reflected in the music of his
films. That is the reason why the music of both *Swades* and *Jodhaa-Akbar*,
while both magnificently created by AR Rahman did not ever really catch on,
with the exception of a few tracks (*Aahista Aahista*, that beautiful
lullaby deleted from *Swades* today lies almost tragically removed from
public memory).

So there you go- like it or not- the music is hardly going to contribute to
an opening- in sharp contrast to *Hare Krishna Hare Ram* single handedly
getting *Bhool Bhulaiyaa* that massive initial- though giving the music time
to settle and sink into the audience could have helped (Rahman's music often
takes a while to warm up to, and repeated hearing to fully appreciate).
However, Gowariker and Rahman create exquisite music together, and it can't
really be helped that it doesn't cater to the *dhinchak* massy music tastes
of the audience .

What *can* still be helped is improving the quality and increasing the
quantity of the promos and other publicity. Get Hrithik and Aishwarya to get
their traps open and give non-stop interviews. Get the stars on the news,
reality shows, get promotional tie-ups, scream from rooftops- do whatever it
takes to ensure that school children may forget the dates of their board
exams but not that of the film's release.

The bottomlime is- this kind of 'graceful, dignified' publicity will not
help. To hell with grace- get your pants down and your hands dirty guys. The
composed tranquility of a film does not have to be echoed in it's publicity.

Vithur

Subject: [arr] Chennai concert in detail ( Thanks to Aparna)

http://aparna- a.com/2008/ 02/10/arrahmans- the-live- life-concert- when-dream-
came-true/

February 9th, 2008 - Little did we expect that exactly an year later, we will
get to see A.R.Rahman again and that too see him perform live in a concert!
Seeing the ad on the newspaper on the 7th morning, my father told my sister and
she immediately registered on the website. We checked our e-mails only
yesterday morning and saw that we had got an e-mail from Marg group that we had
won a pass for the concert! We couldn't believe it! We immediately went to
Marg's office in Old Mahabalipuram Road and collected our passes.
We reached the venue (YMCA Ground, Nandanam) at around 5:45 pm for the concert
that was supposed to start at 7 pm. A queue, not that long, had already formed
outside the entrance to the closed enclosure of the ground, doubled up as
auditorium. But as more and more people started coming, the security folks
asked people to form a queue outside another entrance. We ran to the other
entrance and joined the queue, there with only a few people being in front of
us. We could hear the sounds of the mike testing that was in progress at that
time. It wasn't until 6:15 pm that we were let in. The first few rows were
reserved for the VIPs, then a large number of rows for the employees of Marg.
We managed to get chairs in the second row after all the reserved rows. With
all the sound checks getting over by 6:30 pm, the next one hour turned out to
be a long wait with the excitement building up with each passing moment.
Finally at around 7:40 pm, Rakshanda Khan came on stage and announced that
A.R.Rahman's concert will start after a short concert by Guitar Prasanna!
Guitar Prasanna, along with Haridwaramangalam A.K.Pazhanivel (Tavil),
S.Karthick (Ghatam), B.S.Purushottaman (Khanjira), R.Raman (Morsing) and Keith
Peters (Bass Guitar), performed Taaye tirupurasundari (raaga Suddha Saveri),
Peaceful (a composition of Prasanna himself that happens to be my favourite as
well), Alaipayuthey (raaga Kanada) and 31 (again Prasanna's composition) .
Before playing Alaipayuthey, Prasanna said that on the occasion of Rahman's
concert, he felt it appropriate to play a Carnatic song popularized by Rahman.
As usual, Prasanna's concert was superb!
After Prasanna's concert, Mr. Reddy, the chairman & MD of Marg group, and his
wife lighted the kutthuviLakku. Then Mr. Reddy invited A.R.Rahman and one more
person onto the stage! There was excitement everywhere and a huge round of
applause followed when Rahman came on stage! They all spoke for a few minutes
and then, a presentation on Marg's project was shown twice while there was a
wonderful display of fireworks on the sky.
After this, finally at around 8:40 pm, A.R.Rahman's concert started and the
next two hours that followed will be etched in my memory forever!

Blaaze first came on stage and said that this was a special show since this
happens to be the first concert of Rahman's in 2008. He also said that
Hariharan, Chinmayee, Chitra, Benny, Ujjaynee, Neeti, Naresh Iyer and Aslam
will be performing in the concert. The concert then started with Jaage Hain.
1. Jaage Hain - A.R.Rahman & Chitra
As Chitra's sweet voice greeted us with the words 'Jaage Hain', our eyes were
busy searching for Rahman and then he came and the crowd went mad! Listening to
Rahman sing the song live was such an amazing experience! Open-air audi, cool
breeze surprisingly blowing in Madras, Rahman singing Jaage Hain right in front
of my eyes - if this is not bliss, then what else is?! My eyes refused to
believe that it was really Rahman who was singing in front of me
2. Khalbhali - A.R.Rahman
As the soft Jaage Hain concluded, Khalbhali started with electrifying beats!
Singing the two completely contrast songs back to back with perfection, Rahman
seemed to be in top form! When Rahman sang 'Ziddi ziddi', the crowd went mad
and the way he concluded the song with ziddi ziddi was superb! Naveen played
some awesome flute interludes in the song and those were just the beginning of
the many more wonderful flute interludes to come in the concert.
3. Kadhal Rojave - Chinmayee & Hariharan
I first couldn't guess from the voice that it was Chinmayee who was humming.
Hariharan's voice along with Naveen's flute, that was making an appearance
throughout the song here and there, made the whole song all the more wonderful!
4. Barso Re - Neeti
Naveen's flute was so beautiful for this song that it made me wish that Neeti
would stop singing and Naveen alone could play! Anyway Neeti's singing didn't
appeal to me much.
5. Lose Control (Be a Rebel) - Naresh Iyer & Blaaze
Super beats, Blaaze' Rap and Naresh's Apni to paathshaala!
6. Marilyn Monroe - Ujjaynee &

A.R.RAHMAN - MY BREATH & LIFE FORCE

[arr] Lord of the Rings

2008-02-10 Thread Brijram
This is an amazing album. Feel like watching the play now. Wonder and
Final Battle tracks are amazing. Rahman has pulled it off big time
once again.

I feel we need more discussions here about this interesting soundtrack!!
Gopal, you said you got your copy what are your first impressions?

[arr] BLAZEE Experiences with ARR - Part II

2008-02-10 Thread Vithur
Dear Rahmaniacs,

Continuation to my previous mail on Blazee Experiences with ARR, This is
PART II

Q :- After the song New , which of the songs have you sung for Rahman ?

Rahman asked me if I could write lyrics for some song, if not be able to rap
up for the same. I tried and came out Warriors of Heaven. Words like '
Silence that always remains the same. I see my mother in mothers'e eys". In
that song, you will be able to relate yourself to whom you are thinking in
that song. If you think abt somebody who has passed away , you will be able
to relate in that song. Rahman gave me the script of the film " Warriors of
Heaven". I saw the first and the last page. I closed my eyes and started to
pray. I really prayed , and then said that whatever meant to happen will
happen. I wrote it and showed it to RAHMAN . He told Exact. This happened in
January, and in July my father passed away in Zambia. I took my CDs to
Zambia. I played the song from WOHE after the funeral for the spirits to
hear it . My sister and everybody would say that the lyrics was exact for
the situation. Silence is always that remains the same. Warriors in Peace.
My father was a warrior during the course of his life always. It all became
the way you interpreted it to be. Many started asking me " When did you do
this for this function ?". I told them that it was done for a film. Till
now, its only the prayer which got me the lyrics for that . It just fits
anybody with the situation.

Subhash Ghai 's Kisna "- My wish comes true song.
Pray for me brother ( Raihana's ringtone )

Rahman told me that it was a project for the UN against poverty. It is the
biggest reason for everything. It shouldnt preach like saying ' Do this Do
that", because if you preach people will switch it off. we worked a lot of
time for that song. Everytime, we sat to write, it was something else. The
thoughts was so deep, such that it was to be simplified. Rahman wanted it to
be like a LOVE Song. When you hear it it should be like a Love Song, and yet
you are talking abt Poverty and all these issues. Thats when people will
love to hear it, because people love to hear to Love Songs. The Title is "
Pray for Me Brother " and you decide on how it has to flow through.

I told him that I would like to put this RAP section somewhere. He saw the
whole thing, and said it works fine.

Oru Koodai Sunlight Lyrics in English was written by me. Could I be the
Sunlight ?. could I be the moonlight ?. Rahman told me I should write
similar to colours. I was thinking how to write , as black & white ar
rascist and How to write ??. Then somehow using sun and moon as connection I
used the words " oru Koodai sunlight ; oru koodai moonlight " and came out
fine .

I have never met Rajnikanth till date. Everytime I think about it, I feel
there is a reson behind it. May be after meeting him, he may feel " is this
guy singing for me??".

Q :- How did you become a real performer ?

1983 - I learnt Break Dancing. after 1985, I continued with Break Dancing
with MJ numbers. I felt that it was a cool thing to do. Stage fear goes off
when you put the kids in the stage early. There were 1,00,000 people in
Kolkata Concert. The Biggest. You have to run here and there on concerts.
You have to make maximum use of it .

Q :- do you maintain your voice ?. Do you do anything special for that ?.

Initially, I used to pretend. I never used to care about it. I used to feel
that the more you spoil it, the more deeper it becomes. Then after
Trivandrum concert, i started practising nothing cold; No Ice Creams ; Warm
Water gargling.

Q :- How much does your wife enjoy Rapping ?

She always supported me. Even during the times, when Rahman didnt call me, I
used to do rapping, not for any particular reason. And she has been with me,
and supporting my raps all that time. for me, listening to other rappers is
a stress release. Its a superb therapy.
I met her in Bombay and we got married. even my daugther liking my rap and
she raps. She knows all my stuff.

Q :- How will you evaluate Rahman as a music director ?/

As a Music Director, he is phenomenal, magical. and as a Human being, he is
GOD's BLESSING, to me particularly. from music point of view, when I walked
into the studio, he is the only man who respects and says " You have come ;
you are free to do whatever you want. This is the basic concept. You give me
whatever you want and feel". At so many instances, he will give me the
freedom to do whatever I want. finally he will come back , he will make it
all working , pick what is right ; what is wrong and will make it work for
everybody. But nobody understands that properly. Its only Rahman who takes
the extra effort to get the best out of a singer. As a Music Director, he
has given me so much of freedom to make me do so many things.

After my father's funeral, when I met Rahman, he used to just talk to me for
hours, and make me feel OK. Its not religion, spirituality, but anything ;
all included. he is that one guy who was

[arr] Chennai concert-from my eyes and heart!

2008-02-10 Thread naztitude
To most of us-The Private concert concept was a mystery and not well
understood, but soon we learnt it all. To put it plain, ARR and
troop were a part of a program-that had more events to the evening,
in contrary to an exclusive ARR live in concert-that has three hours
and more of ARR!!
This time-Marg, a construction firm had their celebration with ARR
as chief guest and also as performer (With the gang obviously!).The
show opened with an AV presentation of the company and followed by
the Chairman of the group, Mr.Reddy who presented a momento to Boss.
Note: Boss came in dressed with a simple white shirt and was his
usual calm-self. The event followed by a Classical-guitar
performance led by Mr. Prasanna and our dear Keith Peters. Honestly,
the crowd could not wait for the man's entry-obviously, who can when
you know he is going to be up there any moment.
Finally, the moment arrived. The man returned to the stage-not as
chief guest, but as performer this time-and the next two hours to
follow, Rahman touched favorites from Roja to RDB, Guru to JA!
Blaaze-started the show with his regular hiphop approach!

It goes beyond doubts, the performance was mindblowing. This was
ARR's first concert of the year and he said he was lucky to perform
in his hometown. The stage was set. Three levels of the stage was
made to make the show interesting. Every song was perfect,
unmatchable quality-after all there is a lot of hardwork that gets
behind an ARR concert.

The performance lasted for around two hours-and breakless. The list
of singers included Hariharan, Chitra, Blaaze, Chinmayee, Naresh,
Benny, Neeti Mohan, Tanvi, Sayanora, Aslam, Dr.Narayan, Raihana AR,
Ishrath AR –musicians-all of them Super percussionist Sivamani to
Bass king Keith. The entire show was conducted by Mr.Srinivas Murthy
and to lead them all was none other than our humble, god fearing
magician musician-AR!!!

The show kickstarted with Jaage hain from Guru-Chitraji took one
corner and her sweet voice opened the concert, and as the
orchestration became grander the voice that I call "Chocolate
Souffle" voice, as quoted by the Hindu-Bangalore came in-Wearing a
black to the knee overcoat and continued Jaage hain.

The list of songs are as follows:

Jaage hain (Chitra, ARR)
Khalbali ( ARR)
ARR speaks
Kadhal Rojave (Hari/Chinmayee)
Barso Re (Neeti Mohan)
Paatshala (Blaaze/Naresh/Aslam)
Monroe (Benny/Ujjaynee)
Rubaroo (ARR/Naresh)
Dil se (ARR)
Jashne Bahara (Aslam)
Maduraikepogathadee (Benny/Chinmayee)
Azeem O shaan plus Rukkumani plus Veerapandi (Percussion and Chorus)
Intro to musicians, setup of unplugged
Tamizha Tamizha (Hariharan)
Hari speaks
Unplugged
Tu hi re (Hari)
Anjali Anjali (chitra)
Sahana (chinmayee/Aslam)

Vennilavae (Hari/chinmayee)
Maiyya Maiyya (Neeti/Aslam)
Kehna hi kya (Chitra/ARR)
Tere bina (ARR/Chinmayee)
The boss (blaze/aslam/naresh/Dr Narayan)
Vaaji Vaaji (Hari/chinmayee)
Athiradee (ARR/sayanora/Aslam/Naresh/Chorus)
Humma Humma (Blaaze/ARR/Naresh)
Maa tujhe salaam (ARR/All)

The following songs were a part of the schedule, but was kept from
performing for unknown reasons:

Ellampughazhum (ARR)
Saregame (Blaaze/Tanvi/Naresh/Sayanora)

Athiradee rocked as usual.Needless to say!! Rahman was super
energized for Khalbali.Dil se re was touching. Chinmayee surely won
hearts with her singing and I personally loved Vennilavae.
The highlight, as in the Delhi concert was again-The medley Marhabaa
plus rukkumani plus veerapandi kottayile. What a show!! This can only
be felt-no matter how much I can write here, those there would agree
with me on this. The energy of this performance-I'm amazed. This
time an ensemble of drums was lead by kids. Excited they were-and
honored-they shared the stage with ARR!
The unplugged was a rare one.Rahman took to his keyboard, initially
there was some technical snag-but was well covered by the
technicians and some timely smartness by Hariharan-who took to
interact with the crowd. He asked the crowd to sing along and gave
them a time to remember.
I got a hundred msg's asking me who sang Maiyya Maiyya. Neeti Mohan
from Delhi was the performer here-but not to forget the ease with
which Aslam Bhai plays the gujurati with his Walidaaa-brilliant.
Needless to say-Aslam Bhai is a hero-among his pals and fans.He sang
Jashne Baharaa.Beautiful, infact I'm in loss of descriptions. Really
well performed.
Tere Bina –a personal favorite. The song of the year.AR's voice just
reaches your heart and what better than to hear chinmayee play with
her voice too.
The boss was a crowd favorite.Blaaze stole the show there quite
easily.
Honestly, the crowd was a huge disappointment. Primarily because the
show was an invitation based one-and the crowd seemed pretty less
enthusiastic. The seemed more reserved. So much that ARR asked the
audience to do something about their energy or asked was the show
boring?? Well, being a hardcore fan-I truly think ARR should perform
only for his show-but t

Still didn't understand..why would he did such a concert without much
publicity and not infront of a massive crowd. Or was the plan to
record it and release it in DVD or something. Just confused!

Nazeef Bhai,

Very good write up. It was a very nice occassion for we, Chennai fans to
meet you and interact with you. God willing, we should be able to meet more
often for concerts, wherever they are performed.

Subject: [arr] BLAZEE Experiences with ARR - Part II

Dear Rahmaniacs,

Continuation to my previous mail on Blazee Experiences with ARR, This is PART
II

Q :- After the song New , which of the songs have you sung for Rahman ?

Rahman asked me if I could write lyrics for some song, if not be able to rap up
for the same. I tried and came out Warriors of Heaven. Words like ' Silence
that always remains the same. I see my mother in mothers'e eys". In that song,
you will be able to relate yourself to whom you are thinking in that song. If
you think abt somebody who has passed away , you will be able to relate in that
song. Rahman gave me the script of the film " Warriors of Heaven". I saw the
first and the last page. I closed my eyes and started to pray. I really prayed
, and then said that whatever meant to happen will happen. I wrote it and
showed it to RAHMAN . He told Exact. This happened in January, and in July my
father passed away in Zambia. I took my CDs to Zambia. I played the song from
WOHE after the funeral for the spirits to hear it . My sister and everybody
would say that the lyrics was exact for the situation. Silence is always that
remains the same. Warriors in
Peace. My father was a warrior during the course of his life always. It all
became the way you interpreted it to be. Many started asking me " When did you
do this for this function ?".

It shouldnt preach like saying ' Do this Do
that", because if you preach people will switch it off. we worked a lot of time
for that song. Everytime, we sat to write, it was something else. The thoughts
was so deep, such that it was to be simplified. Rahman wanted it to be like a
LOVE Song. When you hear it it should be like a Love Song, and yet you are
talking abt Poverty and all these issues. Thats when people will love to hear
it, because people love to hear to Love Songs. The Title is " Pray for Me
Brother " and you decide on how it has to flow through.

I told him that I would like to put this RAP section somewhere. He saw the
whole thing, and said it works fine.

Oru Koodai Sunlight Lyrics in English was written by me. Could I be the
Sunlight ?. could I be the moonlight ?. Rahman told me I should write similar
to colours. I was thinking how to write , as black & white ar rascist and How
to write ??. Then somehow using sun and moon as connection I used the words "
oru Koodai sunlight ; oru koodai moonlight " and came out fine .

I have never met Rajnikanth till date. Everytime I think about it, I feel there
is a reson behind it. May be after meeting him, he may feel " is this guy
singing for me??".

Q :- How did you become a real performer ?

1983 - I learnt Break Dancing. after 1985, I continued with Break Dancing with
MJ numbers. I felt that it was a cool thing to do. Stage fear goes off when you
put the kids in the stage early. There were 1,00,000 people in Kolkata Concert.
The Biggest. You have to run here and there on concerts. You have to make
maximum use of it .

Q :- do you maintain your voice ?. Do you do anything special for that ?.

Initially, I used to pretend. I never used to care about it. I used to feel
that the more you spoil it, the more deeper it becomes. Then after Trivandrum
concert, i started practising nothing cold; No Ice Creams ; Warm Water
gargling.

Q :- How much does your wife enjoy Rapping ?

She always supported me. Even during the times, when Rahman didnt call me, I
used to do rapping, not for any particular reason. And she has been with me,
and supporting my raps all that time. for me, listening to other rappers is a
stress release. Its a superb therapy.
I met her in Bombay and we got married. even my daugther liking my rap and she
raps. She knows all my stuff.

Q :- How will you evaluate Rahman as a music director ?/

As a Music Director, he is phenomenal, magical. and as a Human being, he is
GOD's BLESSING, to me particularly. from music point of view, when I walked
into the studio, he is the only man who respects and says " You have come ; you
are free to do whatever you want. This is the basic concept. You give me
whatever you want and feel". At so many instances, he will give me the freedom
to do whatever I want. finally he will come back , he will make it all working
, pick what is right ; what is wrong and will make it work for everybody. But
nobody understands that properly. Its only Rahman who takes the extra effort to

I don't know what Gowarikar and his team are thinking, but they seem
pretty confident about their product. If the movie fails, lots of "I
told you so" remarks will be heard about how JA wasn't promoted well,
etc. The only way this movie is going to be a hit after the first
week is if the narrative and plot are gripping from start to finish.

[arr] Re: I Finally Saw Him Live !!!!

2008-02-10 Thread Mathan
Me too... Rahul,

I had few chances to see Arr ot public places for few times. But
this is my first time to enjoy him in a Live concert.

I really wants to thanks all of our groups members you were there on
that time. Even I don't know the name of many of them other than
Vithur, Venkat and John. When we started shouting during the concert
I felt I mingled with them. That was awesome experience in my life
for ever.

Thanks a millions for you guys.

[arr] Marhaba - Al Risalah

2008-02-10 Thread ruasma
Dear Rahamaniacs!!!
i have been a silent member for a verrry long time and have enjoyed ur
analysis and discussions and fights and all that...the reason i didnt
really participate is that i felt a little out of place - i am much
older than most of u, i think - i am two years older than Rahman - and
also becos i think Rahman's music lives by itself - i have been hooked
on the Boss's music now since the Roja days and i think he is only
getting better and better and his singing is truly to die for!

what prompted me to write is simply that u guys are ignoring a gem of
a composition by the Boss - Marhaba from Al Risalah (am not too sure
of the title)
Rahman's rendition of this number is truly awe inspiring - his passion
drenched voice catches in ur throat and we feel what the boss is
feeling - fantastic singing and what a melody...

plz do listen to this comment...

Re: [arr] Chennai concert-from my eyes and heart!

2008-02-10 Thread durba bhattacharjee
It was a wonderful write up. I think you also posted a write-up on Delhi
concertright? If so, then I must say that it's always pleasure to read your
detailed narration of the concert. Thank you very much.

Primarily because the
show was an invitation based one
