V.Urgent: How Incident/Change License works, how can we manage releasing
Hello List, We are growing with our customer base from Remedy utilization in side ST, with which our incident and Change support people are growing. Now we need to estimate the utilization of Helpdesk and Change management Floating license utilization, so that we could plan what to buy more. From our current study of floating license utilization, we can find out that ARUser license get assigned to the user (profiled APP Support with AR Floating license) as soon as he logon to Remedy application and remains with user till he logout from the application. Or License time out can be another possibility of license release back to license pool. (Please challenge if i am wrong analyzing) Now the license utilization and handling of Incident/change management license in black box for us. Now we have some queries for your quick expected reply: 1. We couldn't find any OOTB thing that could give me current Incident/Change management license utilization. Please advice if any. 2. Please suggest when the Remedy allocates Helpdesk/change floating license to a user: 2.1 When he login? 2.2 When he do Save/Update on helpdesk/change form? 2.3 Does helpdesk/change license remains with user? 2.4 If yes what is the way of releasing and what is the standard OOTB way of doing(Way Remedy application works) Please explain how Remedy do the license handelling and how we can manage better. Hello Manish, have no hands on experience on ITSM, but the user.log file should be a good starting point. Depending on your version, you can turn it on at the admin or user client, at the server-log settings. We do some license monitoring/opimization based on that log file, down to the user. Don't want to advertise, but you could also invest in a tool for that: www.rrr.se They basically also take the user.log file and report on that. Just that they do all for you, so you dont have to build a report/logic you own ... from what I know, they can also report ITSM (so I assume, the ITSM licenses are also shown at the user.log file). Other then that, you have not provided much infos about how you have done your current studies. Did you use the log file, or just check the available licenses? Based on that, we perhaps can help further :-) Cheerio, Robert Ps. yes, I think BMC should be way more helpful, in providing further help for optimized license allocation ... but hey, its a business :-) Mit freundlichen Grüßen/Best regards Robert Kern Corporate Infrastructure IT Operations - Service Integration - Service Desk IT CI OP SI SD Continental Automotive GmbH Sodener Strasse 9, 65824 Schwalbach, Germany Telefon/Phone: +49 6196872546 Telefax: +49 619 687792546 E-Mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] www.continental-corporation.com __ Continental Automotive GmbH, Siemensstr. 12, 93055 Regensburg, Germany Geschäftsführer/Managing Directors: Helmut Matschi, Gérard Cordonnier, Harald Stuhlmann Sitz der Gesellschaft/Registered office: Hannover Registergericht/Commercial registry: Hannover, HRB 59424, USt-Id. Re: RANT: Support Finally Got under my skin
I would verify that the ar server config file (ar.conf) has a line in it that specifies the group that you expect for this feature: ( Debug-GroupId ). I would then go to the Group form and find any records with that 'Group ID' value. ( There should be only one. ) And as an added sanity... take the 'Group Name' value and look for any other Group form records with that 'Group Name'. ( There should be only one. But you may find multiple just because of the Search By Example settings on the field. So make sure the values really are all the same if you find more than one. ) HTH. -- Carey Matthew Black Remedy Skilled Professional (RSP) ARS = Action Request System(Remedy) Love, then teach Solution = People + Process + Tools Fast, Accurate, Cheap Pick two. There are two fields for the mid tier and a separate combined field for the windows user tool (WUT). From memory you may get issues in ITSM if you drop seconds from the time display but the change to a 24 hour clock shouldn't be a problem. You could use workflow to default a user's preference setting to a 24 hour clock. I've done this sort of thing at a couple of client sites recently. One was all web and the other all WUT so it should work for both. In Australia we set our WUT date time format to dd/MM/ HH:mm:ss You were on the right track when you found the date format setting in the preference field. It can actually includes formats for both date and time. Rod Harris ___ UNSUBSCRIBE or access ARSlist Archives at www.arslist.org Platinum Sponsor: www.rmsportal.com ARSlist: Where the Answers Are
Re: Form dropped but still in schema table
You will have to go deep into ar to fix this one: My guess is that the AP:Detail-Signature had been modified somehow. It used to contain a field that has since been removed. To explore this run the following queries: SELECT NUMFIELDS FROM ARSCHEMA WHERE NAME LIKE 'AP:Detail-Signature' SELECT count(*) FROM FIELD WHERE SCHEMAID IN (SELECT SCHEMAID FROM ARSCHEMA WHERE NAME LIKE 'AP:Detail-Signature') If the 2 numbers are different then you will get the Field Count error. If the field count from the FIELD table is greater than the NUMFIELDS value then you can find the missing field by: SELECT * FROM FIELD WHERE SCHEMAID IN (SELECT SCHEMAID FROM ARSCHEMA WHERE NAME LIKE 'AP:Detail-Signature') THEN DO THIS: SELECT 'T' || SCHEMAID FROM ARSCHEMA WHERE NAME LIKE 'AP:Detail-Signature' Then do a DESC on the result of the above query. You will then have to do a comparison between the description of the table and the results of the FIELD list. You should be able to tell from there what field should exist on the form. Pay close attention to the Data Type and Field Type values. I wish I could remember where the reference is for those things ... but I can't remember off the top of my head. Those 2 fields tell you what type of field it is and what type of data is stored in it. i.e. is it a Integer, Date, Character or Date field. If it is a Character is it a Display-Only field? etc. If the field count in the NUMFIELDS is greater than the field count in the FIELD table then you need to probably call Remedy support and see if they can help you find it. (I am assuming you didn't customize this form and left it out of the box?) You may be able to get a hint by looking at the QUERY SHORT parameter on the FILTER table: SELECT * FROM FILTER WHERE NAME = ' AP:Dtl-Sig-NextActionEscTime' but it may confuse you more than help. OR By running this query: SELECT * FROM FILTER_PUSH WHERE FILTERID IN (SELECT FILTERID FROM FILTER WHERE NAME = ' AP:Dtl-Sig-NextActionEscTime') SELECT * FROM FILTER_SET WHERE FILTERID IN (SELECT FILTERID FROM FILTER WHERE NAME = ' AP:Dtl-Sig-NextActionEscTime') and look at the FIELDID value. Compare that with the AssignShort field to make sure it is pushing to or setting from the AP:Detail-Signature table. Re: Adding days to a Date field in a qualification doesn't work
Yeah, I think that doug is on to something here. The $DATE$ keyword is referring to seconds, I believe, and thus you need to add six months worth of seconds. Note, that $DATE$ calculates to midnight that day, so if you need to calculate six months from now, then you will likely need to use $TIMESTAMP$. Using $DATE$ will give you 6 months from the beginning of the current day. Also, as a good note, I would suggest adding the parenthesis, although they should not be required. Yeah, It is at the database level a Date/Time field, the DISPLAY property is TIME :) Doug -Original Message- From: Action Request System discussion list(ARSList) [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Opela, Gary L CTR USAF AFMC 72 CS/SCBAH Sent: Monday, October 27, 2008 11:21 AM To: arslist@ARSLIST.ORG Subject: Re: Adding days to a Date field in a qualification doesn't work Yeah, I think that doug is on to something here. Re: Adding days to a Date field in a qualification doesn't work
An easy way to do this is to use the multipliers. You will also need to use $TIMESTAMP$ 'my_date_field' ($TIMESTAMP$ + (60*60*24*182)) $TIMESTAMP$ returns the number of seconds elapsed since midnight Coordinated Universal Time (UTC) of January 1, 1970. Guess what platform Remedy ARS was first built upon? That's right UNIX. There used to be 3 clients. Anyone know what they were? Note: Remedy ARS was built before there was a Public Internet. Come to think of it, there may have been 4 clients at one time, but there may not have been one for IBM OS/2. When you do it this way, you can substitute a $variable or a number whenever you like. Re: Adding days to a Date field in a qualification doesn't work
Yes, that should work. Although the $DATE$ keyword can be used for both Date and Date/Time fields, using an arithmetic operation against the keyword seems to force it to translate into a date/time value (# of seconds instead of # of days) at the database level. You can observe this by running a SQL log on the server. Search Qual in Advanced Search bar in WUT: 'zDateField' = $DATE$ Corresponding query in SQL log ($DATE$ keyword converted to current Date integer value - # of days since January 1, 4713 B.C.): SELECT TOP 2147483649 T535.C1,T535.C1 FROM T535 WHERE (T535.C536870947 = 2454767) ORDER BY 1 ASC Search Qual in Advanced Search bar in WUT: 'zDateField' = $DATE$ - 7 Corresponding query in SQL log ($DATE$ keyword converted to current Date/Time integer value - # of seconds since January 1, 1970 12:00:00 AM GMT): SELECT TOP 2147483649 T535.C1,T535.C1 FROM T535 WHERE (T535.C536870947 = (1225083600 - 7)) ORDER BY 1 ASC The environment I tested this on is ARS 7.0.1 with a SQL Server 2005 database. --Thomas - Original Message - From: LJ Longwing Newsgroups: gmane.comp.crm.arsystem.general To: arslist@ARSLIST.ORG Sent: Monday, October 27, 2008 10:28 AM Subject: Re: Adding days to a Date field in a qualification doesn't work Oh...I know why it's not workingbecause $DATE$ can be used for both Date and Date/Time fieldsand remedy probably does some dynamic stuff to the value when you are doing a compare with a date field...so what you may need to do is setfield ztmp_datefield = $DATE$ setfield ztmp_datefield = +182 then in another filter my_date_field ztmp_datefield I bet that would work -Original Message- From: Action Request System discussion list(ARSList) [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Tanner, Doug Sent: Monday, October 27, 2008 9:18 AM To: arslist@ARSLIST.ORG Subject: Re: Adding days to a Date field in a qualification doesn't work Try 'my_date_field' ($DATE$ + 15724800) Humor me Doug -Original Message- From: Action Request System discussion list(ARSList) [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Mark Milke Sent: Monday, October 27, 2008 11:08 AM To: arslist@ARSLIST.ORG Subject: Re: Adding days to a Date field in a qualification doesn't work 'my_date_field' ($DATE$ + 182) so that it will add 182 to the date before doing the compare? Re: Adding days to a Date field in a qualification doesn't work
Frank, This syntax will work if searching a Date/Time field, but it will not work with a Date (only) field. The value on the right side of the qualification (($TIMESTAMP$ + (60*60*24*182)) would generate an integer value well beyond the range of the Date field type. If you divided this value by 86400 (the # of seconds in a day) and then added the value 2440588 (the corresponding # of days for the DATE field type for January 1, 1970), this would theoretically work; however, adding these arithmetic operations to the search qualification with a Date field seems to generate an error in the client: ARERR [313] Data types are not appropriate for relational operation ARERR [312] Data types are not appropriate for arithmetic operation So, LJ's method seems like the best (add an additional display-only DATE field, use the DATEADD function to add the offset from the $DATE$ keyword into the temp field, then use the temp field in place of the $DATE$ keyword in the original query against the DATE field). --Thomas - Original Message - From: Frank, Gordon M. What version of ITSM are you on? The answer differs depending on the version. For ITSM 6.0 or previous, application licenses were not formally tracked during operation. Re: Adding days to a Date field in a qualification doesn't work
Mark, Even if that did work, it wouldn't be always accurate, considering leap years or the 2 consecutive months that we have 30 days. Why not try string manupulation, by setting the current value contained in the date field, to a character field and then find the month position and extract the month part of the string, set that to a display only integer field, add 6 to it, and reconstruct the date string.. Consider the exception for when you will need to add up the year part if the month part is greater than 6. Also create exceptions for the month of February to handle leap years. Might be tricky but you will end up with a more accurate result.. Cheers Joe From: Mark Milke [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: arslist@ARSLIST.ORG Sent: Monday, October 27, 2008 10:27:04 AM Subject: Adding days to a Date field in a qualification doesn't work Hi Listers, I have a date field on my form and I want to check, if the date entered isn't later than 6 months from now. If you are just trying to create a log file you can use the unix date command to achieve this. Re: Data - For Server Events
OK -- so I finally looked into ar.h (per Axton) to figure out what the form 'server events' is telling me. However -- I still don't quite know how to interpret the info provided. Has anybody actually used the Server Events with success? And - what did you do? Here is what I have in my 'server events' table Event Type, Event Cause, Event Date, Event Details1 ,2,3 1,8,10/27/2008 11:36:49 AM, JDS-Test 1,8,10/27/2008 11:36:49 AM, JDS-Test 2,14,10/27/2008 11:36:53 AM, 536870913;Field1 2,14,10/27/2008 11:36:53 AM, 536870914;Field2 So -- oddly enough -- I have 2 entries for what appear to be modifying a form. Then 1 entry for each of the 2 fields I created. So -- parsing the first line -- I am assuming the 1,8,10/27/2008 11:36:49 AM, JDS-Test 1 = AR_SVR_EVENT_CHG_SCHEMA -- which is fine 8 = ??? Date is obvious JDS-Test -- the name of the table I created then the next interesting line 2,14,10/27/2008 11:36:53 AM, 536870913;Field1 2 = AR_SVR_EVENT_CHG_FIELD 14 = ??? Date is obvious 536870913;Field1 -- the field I created. So -- what is 'Event Cause' -- and does that info exist in ar.h -- I could not find it. LOB Space Reclaim Issue
Hi, I just wanted to find out if anyone has had this problem and possibly how the issue was resolved. Details of the problem is below. Thank you in advance, Duy Do Broadcast Australia Database Version Database is on Oracle 10G 10.2.0.2.0 Standard Edition on Sun Solaris. Operation done Database is growing, so after the deletes in Development database, we tried Space reclaim of the tables containing LOB segments by running 'alter table table_name enable row movement' and 'alter table table_name shrink space cascade'. Space Reclaim was successful. Observed Problem But after that, the read access to the database Lobs gave ORA-1555 Snapshot too old error messsage. Patch Apply Found Applied Patch 5636728 which was to address FALSE ORA-1555 WHEN READING LOBS AFTER SHRINK, but it didn't help. Later Steps Finally, we had to restore the original Dev database from the backup. Fortunately this test was done on the Development database with the intention of doing it on Production later. Currently the DB is on Oracle 10.2.0.2.0, latest patchset 10.2.0.4 will be applied at some point in time as per the compatibility with the Application. But the patch 5636728, which was to address false Ora-1555 after LOB shrink, was applied successfully. But the ORA-1555 problem remained. Error showed up when Action Remedy application tried to access the data after the LOB space shrink. Even export gave the same error. The Original Dev database as per before the Space shrink was restored from the backup. Frequency of the error Consistently Impact to the Business Production database is growing and we need to be able to reclaim space . We still have the problematic database copy with the LOBs shrunk, so any diagnostic scripts or actions as advised can be run there. ** IMPORTANT NOTICE This email and any attachments may be confidential and/or privileged, in which case neither is intended to be waived.
