Dialogs/ Pop ups on Mid Tier - Remedy version 7.1
One the user is facing this strange issue. When he tries to search the web for Incidents or Change Requests, he gets a dialog box with an error No item matches active link conditions; this operation has been defined so that no match generates an error. (ARERR 9278) on clicking Ok, one more web dialog appears Data Types are not appropriate for relational operation (ARERR 313) followed by a confirm save request dialog box. This user has only Incident viewer and Infrastructuer change Viewer permission. This absolutely works fine on the QA environment for the same user with same permissions. When I login with my Id on his machine, it works fine for me without any pop ups. This issues is there for his entire group. I tried deleting cookies, but didnt help. AIE 7.5
Hello and happy Friday, Listers. Has anyone attempted to install AIE 7.5 on a server separate from the ARS server? Re: AIE 7.5
Hi Brian, You should check where the armonitor.conf file exists and also check that the AR SERVER ID parameter on the arsystem script refers to the correct path. The AR Server ID should be the same as the physical host name of the AR Server. This parameter is used to build the path for the ARMonitor ARMON_DIR and ARMON_CONF You would need to check if the path that is referred to exists on your AR Server Also check if the armonitor.conf file should has got the correct reference to the AR Server Name and path for the arserverd Satya On Fri, Jul 24, 2009 at 1:45 PM, Brian Gillock arslist2...@gmail.comwrote: Hello and happy Friday, Listers. Is it possible that this user does not have permissions to run active links on the form that are setting the data? Or perhaps no permissions on the field used in the qual of the first erroring AL. The first error should indicate which AL it is coming from. Look to see what field it is using in it's search and check its permissions or that of any ALs that shove data into it (if it is a display-only field.) All, I have a question about the possibility of being able to run the canned crystal reports from the web without having crystal enterprise. I am hoping to find a solution to allow users to be able to run the out of box reports (crystal) from the web without having to purchase another software package. OT:Friday Humor
Three guys die and go to heaven. St. Peter says Listen - we're having a really busy century, so we need to manage admissions tightly. Right now we can only admit people who have died in horrible fashions, and those who have died in a more mundane way will have to wait in limbo, and it could take a decade or two to work you in. So St. Peter takes aside the first man, and asks him how he died. Well, I'd been suspicious of my wife having an affair for some time now, so today I came home from work early. I just knew the guy was in my apartment, but I couldn't find him. I looked everywhere and was just about to give up, when I went out on the balcony of my 23rd story apartment and there he was hanging over the edge! He was just barely hanging on, there was no way he could climb back onto the balcony. It was a really stupid place to try to hide. I was livid, so I started punching him and clawing at his fingers, but he held on. Finally I went to get a hammer and started pounding on his fingers, and he fell down. But what really angered me was that he landed in some bushes and fell to the ground dazed, but basically OK! I was so mad I grabbed the refrigerator, threw it off the balcony and it landed on him. Unfortunately I was so riled up by the incident I had a heart attack and died. St. Peter was taken aback, and said While you did die in a dramatic fashion, I think we need to look at that whole second degree murder before we let you in - off to limbo with you. He then approached the second man and asked him how he had died. I was riding my exercise bike on the balcony of my 24th story apartment, when the thing broke and threw me over the railing! I grabbed furiously at the railing and slipped, but managed to catch on the balcony below mine. I tried to climb up but it just wasn't possible. I thought I was going to fall but then someone came out on the balcony. I thought he would help me, until he started hitting me! I held on as best I could, but when he got a hammer and started hitting me I finally couldn't hold on anymore and fell. Somehow, though, I fell in some bushes and fell to the ground dazed, but basically OK! Just as I'm coming around, I look up and BAM this refrigerator lands on me. So here I am. St. Peter immediately admitted this second man to heaven, and pulled aside the third man and asked him for his story. The only suggestion I can give you is to look for something distinct between the environments. In our case on Oracle we have different dbLinks (which are different on dev/test/...) Another way might be to look for different data in one of the tables (i.e. I use a different login on each environment so that would be different on dev/test/...) Re: Submitter Mode 'Changeable' for CMDB 2.1 p005 patch?
I had a similar problem. We could not create Assets after upgrading to ITSM 7.1 in Submitter-Locked mode, and it turns out that a single filter needs to be modified/replaced. That was some time ago, so I don't recall exactly which one, but BMC tech support is aware of it and can send you the updated filter if you call them. I also believe this is addressed in a subsequent patch. HTH, Michael W. Re: WARNING - AtriumCore 7.5 installer has destructive defect in AIE upgrade
Hi Chris, We jumped into the 7.5 (ARS, CMDB and ITSM) bandwagon right away as soon as it became available in our DEV servers, because we wanted to go-live with those 7.5 version 6 months later, with the latest patched versions at the time of the go-live, instead of going live with ARS 7.1 and CMDB 2.1 and ITSM 7.0.3 p9, and upgrade at the end of the year. We are now live with 7.5. We don't use AIE, so did not run into that problem. I found many bugs which seem resolved by now, which is great. The one significant bug that BMC has not yet resolved, is the one that you refer to, AtriumConsole loads a blank page with the error popup Authentication Error Send Failed OK so it isn't much use). We have provided extensive Mid-Tier and Tomcat logs to BMC support for months now, and they are still working (struggling) on that bug. We have the mid-tier (7.5 patch 1) running on Tomcat only (no apache) in Solaris 10 BTW. It is discouraging that the latest patches don't fix this bug, I was planning to upgrade my CMDB and Mid-Tier from 7.5 patch 1 to 7.5 patch 2 to see if that fixes the problem, but I guess it does not since you have that problem too I guess eventually more customers are going to have this error message and BMC will have to spend more resources to really get to the bottom of that error. The main problem with this error message is that it is very generic. So therefore you have to dive into the Tomcat logs which is not exactly fun (at least not for me). Then I made the fatal mistake of trying to upgrade the AIE engine instance for the upgraded server to 7.5. Our AIE 7.1 engines for production, development, and failover/upgrade test are all on a separate server. They are all installed in C:\Program Files\BMC Software\BMC Atrium Integration Engine\ in folders for each server ( \SERVERNAME-PORT\ ). Any time we patch one of the engines, the 7.1 installer only modifies the appropriate \SERVERNAME-PORT folder; before AIE, EIE installed and upgraded individual instances by folder in the same manner. In preparation for the upgrade attempt, I had already run the 7.1.00.006 patch against the AIE instance in question since it was at patch 002, and the latest docs for AtriumCore 7.5 point out a problem if AIE is below 7.1.00.004. Friday evening I ran the AtriumCore 7.5.00.002 installer on the AIE server, and ONLY told it to upgrade AIE for the correct server, and pointed it at the C:\Program Files\BMC Software\BMC Atrium Integration Engine\, similar to selecting the Email server etc. in the other 7.5 installers. There is no documentation telling you where to point it exactly, and the default was one folder higher, so it was a guess based on working with the 7.1 patch installers. The installer added a number of folders to that directory and busied itself with all manner of activity, but in the end it decided to fail for some reason. It had been making changes to the appropriate SERVERNAME-PORT folder, as expected. When it died, however, it permanently deleted EVERY FOLDER in the entire \BMC Atrium Integration Engine\ directory, including the file folders for the development and production AIE 7.1 instances!!! Deleted...gone...destroyed. It left behind just three files; two little xml files and a zero-length log file. Needless to say, the production AIE instance immediately stopped working - there were no longer any executable files under the service. Then BMC Support and I spent about an hour learning how to rebuild the development instance folders from scratch, in case we couldn't get the folders restored from backup. Late last night (hindered by the fact that installing the incredibly outdated java required by ADDM 7.5 trashed the java required for the CommVault backup/restore console on his PC), Don restored the file folders from backup and I have the development and production AIE instances working again today. The test upgrade instance is completely trashed since the installer toasted the registry entries. Proof once more that (1) backups matter, and (2) java is a fundamentally flawed, unreliable architecture upon which to base

Re: Trying to use BackChannel (AR Mid-Tier v7.0)
Jarl, I started looking at backchannel before I was made aware of Web Services and haven't spent any time on it since. So far I have not been able to get Web Services to work with the constraints I am under so really researching it has been no more productive than trying to use backchannel. It seems that out of the box Web Services is basically crippled for a non-privileged user because it doesn't provide any diagnostics in the response to tell you what is wrong with a request. If I were trying to use Web Services with, say, Amazon, would I have to be calling Amazon technical support for them to turn on diagnostics and look through logs? Wouldn't I have a clearly documented interface with a way of determining the allowed values for each field, including whether a particular field could be left empty? I don't think I have that with the Remedy installation I have here, and I would be surprised if it was changed from out of the box. Re: Trying to use BackChannel (AR Mid-Tier v7.0)
Here is my thoughts on this. Since you know what form the Web Service is submitting to and the data you are passing in the create operation you can open the form in the User tool (use the same login and password used in the Web Service header). Turn on the Filter logging in the User Tool ( Tools - Options - Logging). Put in the same data you passed with the Web Service and you would then have logs to trace. BTW: You can get to the server log files from the user tool in a couple of ways if you know the location of the files. The easiest is with the Remedy Administrator you can create a form with an attachment pool (to hold the file) and using the PROCESS command of PERFORM-ACTION-ADD-ATTACHMENT in a filter have the server store the log file into an attachment. Shoot the programmer, unless of course, there was a very, very good reason for doing so. :) William Rentfrow wrote: ** Anyone using Aspect right now to integrate with IM 7.03? We were going to port the old existing version of our custom client software until we discovered we do not have the source code and the server name is hard-coded in the application (g!). Re: Trying to use BackChannel (AR Mid-Tier v7.0)
2009/7/24 grenadaguy mark_courte...@yahoo.com: Jarl, I started looking at backchannel before I was made aware of Web Services and haven't spent any time on it since. Yes, thats the issue! The non-technical documentation is non-exixting! Thats why you need to talk to an administrator. Can you provide the input XML your using? I suspect that you missing some key information that is needed.
