before i defined that, none admin users couldn't even view a single CI.

 Hi Ron,

This has been an issue right from the beginning and the best way to solve
it is as Andrew suggested. However if this is not acceptable you could do
 the following.

Copy the date/time into a character field before it is saved to the server
and then the server won’t touch it and put that into your email instead.

 Good Morning,

When recipients receive email notifications with date fields on them,
(example Change Request start time), the time is displayed in the email
server time rather than the user's local time. I guess this makes sense
since the email server has no way of knowing what time zone the recipients
are in. Nevertheless, looks like BMC has a bug for this, (SW00257640).

I'm sure many of you have come across this complaint before. Is there a
clever way of dealing with this?

Re: Note to the list about upgrading to 7.6.x of Analytics

2011-05-31 Thread Chowdhury, Tauf
Because of popular demand, I'll post my findings to date. Let me preface
this by saying that independently, the documentation and customization
methods are fine for 2.5 and 7.6.x. So if you are a customer going to
7.6 from scratch, following the customization procedures should ensure a
good path moving forward... for the most part.

Again, if ANY of you have done this successfully and can prove me wrong,
that will be great because it means we can move forward with our
project. I REALLY hope someone has done this upgrade but so far, I
haven't been able to find anyone.

Here's the issue when upgrading.

1. In 2.5, BMC recommendation for customization was just to use
standard naming conventions and things like that. Great. We did that.

2. In 7.6, BMC recommends creating a linked custom universe which
sits on top of the OOB ITSM universe and doing all the customizations
there. (You preserve your OOB universe that way and in the future, you
just break the link and recreate the link between your custom and new
OOB universe) Great. We did that too.

3. They then recommend running the import tool for Boxi to pull
the reports and users over from old to new. Here's where the fun begins

a. All of the 2.5 reports are attached to the ITSM universe
which is OOB. When importing, they still retain that universe
relationship.

b. Because of this, it doesn't see (not that it matters) any of
your customizations in the custom universe. The reports will import
without error but all the custom objects will be dropped.

c. Let's say you find a creative way to change your reports in 2.5
to the same name as the custom universe you created for 7.6 (we found a
way and thought we were awesome).

d. You go back to running the import tool but still, the objects
are dropped. Why? Because the import tool looks at a CUID which is a
backend GUID for each object. This object just won't match because you
created them brand new in the new universe!

e. The first recommendation from support was to use the Import tool
to bring over the 2.5 Universe... yeah... but... we'd lose all the
benefits of upgrading.

f.The final blow to us was this... Let's say a field like
Change - Task Notes is missing from the universe in 2.5. We went ahead
and added it. Now, in 7.6, the object is included in the OOB universe.
You can't really use that new object because all of your reports are
pointing to the custom object.

So what have we done? We're now looking at recreating 800+ reports in
the new environment. Complete recreation of every report. Obviously,
we're not happy.

All,

I'm still working through BMC to work this out (I'm at the level of
talking to RD/ Product Managers) but basically the issue we have is in
the upgrade/migration/whatever you want to call it of going from
Analytics 2.5 to Analytics 7.6.04. Basically, if you follow what BMC
recommends as far as customizations in the 2.5 and the best practices of
how to do customizations in the new environment, it is impossible. I can
provide more detail off list as I know the Analytics community is not as
big as AR/ITSM...

ITSM change management approver func role risk

2011-05-31 Thread Andrew C Goodall

All,

ITSM 7.5.01

The first step in our change approval process for normal changes will be
for the Assigned Group Change Approver to approve or reject the change
request during the review phase.

Anyone with this functional role can also submit changes themselves to
their own support group and then subsequently approve their own change
request.

Our auditing and IT risk management believes the tool should prevent
this out of the box, but it DOES NOT.

Has anyone else come across this concern and developed a solution to
mitigate this risk?

Thibaut,

Give this a try….turn on user logging log in, do your normal stuff, log out,
and then perform your query….check to see if it does another login
automatically….I think you will find that it does. In my mind I only do a
log out when my program is terminating…so I’ve never tried to do anything
after issuing the logout statement. If you are concerned about it I would
set the ARServerUser object to null after logging out if you don’t want it

2011-05-31 Thread Papolu, Appajee
AR API methoods in essense have a notion of establishing connection,
authenticating, performing the eventual network api call to the Server and so
on. That is why your subsequent ops after logout just work seamlessly. Of
course all this noted additional work happens conditionally on as needed basis.

So, be assured that -- if you do a login at first and logout at the very end,
then expected logout semantics are upheld (i.e. this specific user's acquired
license is released etc).

User Client 7.6.3 7.6.4sp1: Tabs, Tables, Printing

2011-05-31 Thread Shawn Stonequist
Greetings list!

We are (still) upgrading from our 6.0.3 Remedy server to a brand new (Ok-
not that new...) 7.6.3 Remedy server. We encountered a new issue that I
can't figure out or find in the Archives (spent about 30 minutes, but not
really even sure what to look for).

This new issue that we found is that, when trying to print the record
details, if a Table field was displayed within a tab of a Page field and
refreshed to show its corresponding data, then the printout would repeat
the table over the upper left corner of the details, in addition to where
the table belongs under the tab. The only way around this (that we can find)
is to Print Preview first. The strange part is that it doesn't occur with
ALL tab/table combinations (and we can't figure out why).

For example, the form in question has 14 tabs (3 hidden). The first tab has
3 small tables, and various other tabs have between 1-4 tables. When Tabs 1
or 11 are selected and printed, they print just fine, everytime, without
fail. When any of the other tabs that have information are printed, they
print the double tables everytime without fail. I tried duplicating the
properties of both the tabs and the tables from those that work to those
that don't, but it has no effect. Using a development form, I tried to
recreate the conditions of the tables that work, but always failed (except 1
time, which I haven't been able to reproduce). It seems that it is only an
issue when there is a Tab/Table combination in play (we have many other
custom forms as well, without tabs, that have no issues what-so-ever).

We have even tried using 7.6.4 sp1 against our test server running the 7.6.3
server (as this combination resolved a number of other issues we were
having, like strange characters when copying/pasting, and an error that
occurs when a user chooses to accept the consequences of updating a record
after another user has since the last Get time). All results are the same-
we can't get rid of this ghost table image.

Any ideas?

Any ideas?

Re: User Client 7.6.3 7.6.4sp1: Tabs, Tables, Printing

2011-05-31 Thread Shawn Stonequist
Good thought, but this happens to multiple printers.

After fiddling a bit, I actually figured out why it happens to some but not
others:

In actuallity, it does happen to all of them, however, for those which are
located at lower coordinates on their respective page, the printout is
reprinting the tables using the same coordinates and layered between the
fields and the Page field.

Example: If a table is located at Page1 X:1, Y:1, then the table is
reprinted at MainForm X:1, Y:1. If its at Page1 X:200, Y:200, then the
reprint is Main X:200, Y:200. If the Page Field itself is at Main X:199,
Y:199, and covers the same or larger area as the table, then the Page field
covers it.

I tried to place a box field behind the fields, but the reprint is layered
above the fields, so this doesn't help.

Does anyone have anyone know if the SRD number is included in the xml

Here is the background scenario: If this Service Requst entry were
done manually, the SRD/AOT association would create Work Orders. What
the company is trying to do is automate a manual workflow. Instead of
sending a data file to a person for manual input; WSDL will read the

the SRD_Number on the incoming XML data achieve that?

Re: WSDL question about SRM_RequestInterface_Create_WS

2011-05-31 Thread Mahesh
SRD_Number (SRD ID) is Entry ID (Field ID 1) of the form
SRD:ServiceRequestDefinition_Base.

You need to specify the corresponding SRD Instance ID to Submit a request
and not SRD Number.

Thanks

Re: User Client 7.6.3 7.6.4sp1: Tabs, Tables, Printing

2011-05-31 Thread Shawn Stonequist
Does anyone know how to make a Macro/Button/Active Link/Run Process/Anything
which will:
1) Open Print Preview
2) Print

I think this will help (found on google an old page from Matt Reineldt, but
couldn't get in to it:

http://www.mattreinfeldt.com/forums/ubbthreads.php/topics/69270/Print_Preview_in_a_Macro)

If anyone has this (so that I can hopefully at least use it for base
knowledge and apply a fix), I would be most grateful!!

Re: Hide fields from some users

2011-05-31 Thread Mueller, Doug
Mike,

Actually, it is easier than you are describing.

You don't need to worry about the Assignee Group at all. That group is related
to row level security where
you want to restrict access to ROWS.

All you need to do is create a group for the permission you want. Maybe that
group is called something
like License Management.

Then, you change the permissions on the field(s) of interested to NOT allow
Public access, but allow only
this one group access.

This would mean that this COLUMN is available only to users who are members of
that group.

NOTE: There is an Allow Any User to Submit option within permissions. If you
want to allow other users
to see the field so they can SUBMIT new entries with this data but then not be
able to see the contents after
submit, you can select this box. If you don't want users to even know of the
existance of the field, make
sure that this option is NOT turned on and they will not see the field at all.

I hope this helps,

Doug Mueller

Hi,

I've been given a spread sheet of Software CI's to import in to our system and
one of the columns contains licence keys. We do not want everybody to be able
to see these, so, if for example I only want a purchasing and internal support
group to have access to this field, how could I restrict that? I'm thinking
that I'll have to do it using Assignee Group and maybe create a new group
called Licence Management (or something similiar)

Am I barking up the wrong tree?

Thoughts?

Thanks

-
Mike
