One more thing! If you are copying data from ARX to a join-form, transfertype=SYNCTOTARGET would not work. I suggest you refrain from anything but transfertype=COPY. Re: rrrChive with the CMDB
Hi Misi, Thanks for the reply and the free tool. I was using this to get the CMDB data to an ARX file really and was puzzelled by the ARAPI call not thinking there is a Company field on the join. But it you dont support it then I will follow Carls recommendation and go from the base forms. thanks Danny Hi, RRR|Chive is designed to work with Regular forms only. Join forms does not work. Loading the qualifier should work though, so problems would come later. We have no plans of adding join form functionality to RRR|Chive, as it is a low level data transfer tool, and a join form always brings it data from one or more regular forms. The solution would be as Carl suggests - go for the core form instead. I guess there should be an earlier check and ERROR about join forms in RRR|Chive though... Re: rrrChive with the CMDB
Hi, You can definitely manage CMDB data with RRR|Chive, but I go against regular forms. If you are working with ARX-files, you can not do a SYNCTOTARGET on the first run, as the ARX-file has not been created yet. Please do a transfertype=COPY instead in that case. After the ARX-file has been created, you can do a transfertype=SYNCTOTARGET to gransfer the Delta (modified and deleted records) to the ARX-file. If you do this at the same time as using a qualifier, you will get a failure if the database name in the ARX-file dose not match the field label. In this case, you can use Field IDs instead. I guess I have to add a few things to make this more straight forward: - Fix it so that you can do SYNCTOTARGET against empty ARX-files - Allow for different queries against source and target, if you want to do SYNCTOTARGET and the field names does not match - Prevent running against Join-forms, or possibly make this supported ADV: If anyone wants to pay me to do any of these tasks, feel free to contact me off list :-) Best Regards - Misi, RRR AB, http://www.rrr.se (ARSList MVP 2011) Products from RRR Scandinavia (Best R.O.I. Christopher, The security folks seemed to accept my reply that running as a non-admin may be possible but it needs elevated permissions. I do give this Domain Account (it is not a local Windows account) full rights to the BMC Software directory structures where the applications are installed (before installation). Again, the service itself runs under that Domain User account - ARS 7.x installers usually get this correct if the account has been set up properly on the SQL Server first. The email engine is another matter. If you are using MAPI and have Outlook installed on the AR Server, the Domain User for the MAPI mailbox has to be a local admin as well, and have the rights to log on locally and run Outlook against the mailbox that AREmail is using; the Email Engine service itself must run under that Domain User account. When using SMTP/POP, the BMC Remedy Email Engine installs and runs just fine under the Local System account. If you decide to run it under the Domain User of the Pop mailbox, then that user would have to be at least a local Power User to run the service, with full access to the Email Engine application directory. It only needs to be in the local admin group for MAPI connections. We do the same with the mid-tier; the Tomcat instance runs under a dedicated Domain User that is in the local Power User group, with full rights to the Apache file directory structure. We make those changes after installing Tomcat (which installs under Local System), before installing the mid-tier. BTW, the AR System runs in a dedicated AD forest, so it is an additional dependency
Re: Running the ARsystem service as a plain windows user account
if the application is reaching outside the firewall then three things come to mind. #1 replace the security folks running the firewall, for their misconfiguration. #2 replace the firewall, that is configured correctly and allows an application to network around it. #3 replace network folks that allow configurations to go around the box. Sorry: this sounds so ridiculous it is almost friday humor. Since my system has been on the public Internet from day one (3.x on NT 4), the corporate firewall has never really been an issue. I control what ports are accessible from where on the individual server firewalls. When we go to a hosted app, that becomes someone else's problem. What we have used for many years is a Domain User account (not a Domain Admin or other role) that has been granted local admin rights on the AR Server, AND is the dbo in SQL Server for the ARSystem database. Flashboards has always run fine as Local System. This works fine in Windows Server 2003, but I never got it working to my satisfaction in Windows Server 2008; the mail engine would not log in and send mail unless you had a current logged-in session under the mailbox user account open, and started the mail service from there. Log out, and it stopped working. It was one of the main reasons we switch from MAPI (for ARS 7.1) to SMTP/POP (for ARS 7.6.04). When using SMTP/POP, the BMC Remedy Email Engine installs and runs just fine under the Local

Re: Securing SRM tickets (SR,WO, Task) for HR
Hi, If we have understood your issue correctly, following things can be configured as one of the solutions to get this done 1. Create two separate companies: one for HRIS and another for NON-HRIS 2. Give unrestricted access to HRIS member, so they will be able to see all the tickets including NON-HRIS 3. Do not give unrestricted access to NON-HRIS members, so they will have access only to their tickets HTH -- Regards, ITSM Support Vyom Labs Pvt. Ltd. Avoid advance interface forms, to allow for self-administration of SR Catalog, and keep any maintenance tasks to a minimum 2. Non-HRIS personnel should not have access to HRIS Requests nor Work Order/Tasks 3. All HRIS personnel should have access to Requests, WOs, Tasks, regardless of assignment 4. Non-HRIS Requests, WOs, Tasks need to be available to the rest of the users I am looking at setting up row level security for this, so if you have tried this I'd be very appreciative of your experience. Here's what I have been able to discern so far: OOB SRM:Request's field 1, 'SysRequestID', has only the Assignee, Assignee Group, OBOAssignee, Submitter, Vendor Assignee Groups and 'Unrestricted Access' (role) that grant access to an entry. Though 'Assignee Group' is set, no field 112 has been created. The 'OBOAssignee' field is used, and workflow sets this to $USER$, $Requested By Login ID$, and $Requested For Login ID$. Similarly, the Vendor Assignee is set by workflow as well, if a vendor is assigned the request. My working plan is to remove the 'Unrestricted Access' from field 1, use the assignee group in field 112 and a parent group in a dynamic group field as described in the FormApp guide to grant access to the assignee group and all HRIS groups. Filters will set field 112, the system will set the dynamic group and all HRIS groups should have access to the tickets when an HRIS group is assigned. If the Assignee is not in HRIS, a generic permissions group (General Access?) will be put into 112. First, if anyone has a better idea on this, please let me know. Otherwise, what I'm going to be looking at is whether or not I a filter can determine if an assignee group is in a parent group (so I don't have to update code when HR adds a new support group). Re: Completely OT: MS SQL Server 'Compact' 3.5 SP1... How does this differ from the regular SQL server?
Hi, there is a good Wiki article on this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SQL_Server_Compact MS offer a couple of different flavours of the SQL Server e.g. the above (for mobile and Windows CE) , SQL Server Express (Visual Studio), etc These allow you to use MS SQL without the need for a full blown SQL Server setup and licenses and they have a smaller footprint. I guess it is a move on from MS Access in some ways to allow the development platforms a standard DB interface and the overhead costs. I have even in the past installed ARS on the Express version of SQL Server with no issues (e.g. Laptop - no VM), although I have not tried the later versions. That replaced the old MSDE (Microsoft Data Engine) instances that things like Crystal Enterprise installed (that were code-red vulnerable ootb). They were basically unmanaged instances of SQL Server 7, 2000, or 2005. It should be fairly secure since it is SQL Server 2008 and Visual Studio 2008 vintage. If you install the SQL Server 2008 Tools you can manage it, assuming that it does not come with its own management interface; MSDE never did. Mid-Tier error ARERR [9350] Network protocol/data error when performing data operation. Please contact administrator
Hi all, I was wondering if anybody has ever seen the following behaviour. About a week ago, our users started getting error “ ARERR [9350] Network protocol/data error when performing data operation. Please contact administrator” when opening AR System Customizable Home Page on mid-tier with the overview console. They seem to be able to open other consoles without error and it all worked fine previously. It affects all the users (luckily this is a test environment only). They all use IE7 and I have tested with IE8 with the same result. The home page works fine (i.e. no error) with FireFox and also (and this is the most puzzling to me) when I start running Fiddler on my client with IE7 in order to investigate the issue. Joe PS: Since this is no relation with the AR System, please reply to me directly if you will and spare the bandwith on the list. I was tempted to ask the list here only because this tool uses a RDBMS which is a type of the MS-SQL server so some of you might have had to use it with some other non-related tools.. _attend WWRUG12 www.wwrug.com ARSlist: Where the Answers Are_ _attend WWRUG12 www.wwrug.com ARSlist: Where the Answers Are_ ___ UNSUBSCRIBE or access ARSlist Archives at www.arslist.org attend wwrug12 www.wwrug12.com ARSList: Where the Answers Are
Re: PDICT -- Abydos -- installer problems
I am having similar issues in that the installer (C:\Software Install\Process Designer 8.3.02\ProcessDesignerInstallAndConfig_8.3.02\PDICT\setup.exe) runs, it puts an icon on my desktop and then stops. The icon points to: C:\Program Files\BMC Software\Process Designer 8\Integration and Configuration Tool\ but there is nothing executable in that directory, just a jar file and the lib and Resources directories. So then I ran the C:\Software Install\ProcessDesignerServer_8.3.02\Server\setup.exe and that seemed to have done something (it even put some entries in my ar.cfg file). Not really sure what to do with it, however. Maybe I am just not cut out for this Process Designer stuff. I'll bet the next version gets rid of all these problems. ** ARS Server : 7.6.04 SP3 Oracle 11.i - Why trying to use the PDICT I am not getting very far installing.. it takes forever. Does anyone actually have this working ? I just would like to know it can happen.. ___ UNSUBSCRIBE or access ARSlist Archives at www.arslist.org attend wwrug12 www.wwrug12.com ARSList: Where the Answers Are
Mid-Tier error ARERR [9350] Network protocol/data error when performing data operation. Please contact administrator
Hello It's a bug in the Mid Tier. The stack trace is trying to convert a string, I assume read from the request, to a number. The string is empty and hence the parse fails, leading to the exception (which should be caught and handled, but isn't). I think you'll need to collect a Fiddler trace to find out what request is causing this to happen, as that's the root cause. No for several reasons: 1) It has been subscribed since 2004 without prior incident 2) For some odd reason my email system decided to mark it and many arslist emails as spam so I didn't see it until you mentioned it 3) Haven't been around to do it until now, Canada Day Weekend. Hi, Thanks for the suggestion. But as I said, when I turn Fiddler on to take the trace, it works fine and the error disappears. Any idea why that might be? Sorry, I missed that part. I'm surprised that Fiddler changes the way the Javascript runs - you may want to think about using wireshark to get a packet trace, but that's quite low level stuff. Either way, it's a bug and it's not your fault :) ___ UNSUBSCRIBE or access ARSlist Archives at www.arslist.org attend wwrug12 www.wwrug12.com ARSList: Where the Answers Are

Bmc gave me a javascript file that I could throw on midtier and it will pop the error with some more debug information. This error is be very generic. We had the same issue and it turned out to be our load balancer that was causing the issue. WWRUG12 Submission Deadline - Extended!!
Hello fellow ARSLister's and WWRUG'ers, A couple of great things have happened since my last (mid-week) blast to you (from Bangalore, India). 1. We have extended the deadline for submissions to July 9, 2012 to accommodate lots of folks on holiday and PTO. 2. We have expanded the scope of the conference to include presentations on ADDM, Analytics, and Cloud based services (Remedy as a Service). 3. We have received over 30 NEW submissions since my last email to you all two weeks ago. With that said, you have less than a week to get your topics submitted to the board for review. If you have not submitted your topic you can do so at www.wwrug.org/register (registers you for topic management, NOT the conference). If you have already submitted your topic, you should have received an email from us acknowledging your submission. I simply don't have the bandwidth to list all of the topics here. Once we have made our selections, they will be posted here and all the submitters will receive email notices of their topic's status. Looking forward to seeing you all in San Jose, CA this October.
