AREA LDAP configuration

2012-10-29 Thread Tony Reel
Hi Guys,

I have inherited support of a 7.0.01 install of Remedy (AR system ITSM on
Windows) which has some LDAP configurations setup. I do not have much
experience with the LDAP configuration, it seems pretty straightforward but it
is not working and I think I am missing something simple.

Currently there are 4 Configurations set in the AREA LDAP Configuration. 3 of
these seem to be old and reference 3 OU structures in the same AD which no
longer exist; I have left them there but decreased their order.
1 of the current configurations searches the correct OU and users successfully
authenticate.

I want to add a new configuration for a different OU group in the same AD, so I
will have two groups of users in the same AD structure being used for
authentication. I have copied the entire configuration Detail from the working
example and changed only the ‘User Base’ field to the new OU group path. I
restarted the AR services and I have looked in the ar.conf file and I can see
the new settings.

I then moved a user from the original OU to the new OU group but they cannot
login.

Questions I have:
Do you have to restart services after you make changes to the AREA LDAP
configurations?
Can you authenticate to multiple OU groups in the same AD?
Is it ok to have multiple Configurations using the same Port number, username,
password etc?
Do I need to configure Failover Timeout or Chase Referral.

Any advice on what I am doing wrong or how I can troubleshoot this one would be
greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Tony

Re: BIRT Reports

2012-10-29 Thread Gordon Frank

One maintenance trick which will pay off later.

Your calculation of 1209600 is (60*60*24*14).

It terms of maintenance, use (60*60*24*14)

Several times in the life-cycle of a system, you may want to just change 14 to
7 or something else. You can make the 14 a variable which is dependent upon the
situation. (60 * (60 * (24 *  + $Number of Days$

Having worked on ARS systems since 1994, this syntax has been a savior many
times.

Also the DateDiff function is very powerful and very fast. Functions tend to be
binary code and not SQL on top of binary. This means fewer IOs which is the
goal of any developer.

Just a little tick of the trade.

I am very new to BIRT and need to build a Date Range parameter that calculates
all records that are still open and 14 days old from the date entered (Submit

I built a parameter to accept the date range and used the following:

Date entered = Date entered - 1209600

Am I suppose to use the Birt function DateDiff(Param, Param2)integer

Any ideas?

So you know my qualifications, I have a B.A. in English and studied to be a
technical writer way back in the day. It's interesting that I became a
software tester because I find proofing software to be quite similar to
proofing documents. There's at least one technical writer I know of who agrees.

Technically speaking, Users' Group is the most correct because we are talking
about a group for multiple users, but we could replace for with belonging
to without losing too much meaning, and the apostrophe denotes possession.
However, Users Group would also be acceptable despite its lack of technical
correctness because it has slipped into common usage. That's how language
evolves - ways of writing that at one point in time are not considered correct
can move into acceptable usage if enough people adopt them. Users insert
noun of your choice] has apparently passed that threshold.

Thanks for providing the dates, Daniel, as I'm the one who posted the original
question at the bottom of this thread.

Re: Monthly Summary Reports

2012-10-29 Thread Gordon Frank

What you'll need to do is create a hidden field which holds month in it. You
will need a translation Filter to take the Month number and translate it to
January, February

This Filter will work on the fly. Every record will have a value in it. It's a
little bit of overhead, but ARS doesn't care. If it's a Filter, then it is
server fast. Once you have the month stored, you can Group on it and get a
summary by using Statistics in the Report Writer.

Another way to do this is with a separate form which hold a translation between
month number and month. Doing it this way will allow any form to use it as a
lookup table.

Using the OOB report writer has limitations. Crystal has functions to do this
on-the-fly. but it doesn't sound like Crystal is available.

AREA LDAP configuration

2012-10-29 Thread John Baker
Tony,

Do you have to restart services after you make changes to the AREA LDAP
 configurations?

Yes, although you can kill the arplugin process and armonitor should
restart the plugin server. Given some ITSM installations take 30 minutes
to restart, this is the best choice if in doubt,

Can you authenticate to multiple OU groups in the same AD?

OU groups? Do you mean different sub-trees? I believe you can use a
parent base DN and search down.

Is it ok to have multiple Configurations using the same Port number,
 username, password etc?

I don't see why not. Multiple configurations is the same plugin loaded X
times on the BMC AREA Hub, I think.

One of my colleagues wrote the following document that may be of use:

Thanks for the reply John,

I have to wait until I am outside core hours before I can restart anything
again but I will try restarting only the arplugin this time, thanks.

By OU I mean Organizational Units so yes different sub-trees. Unfortunately I
can’t use the parent as the base DN and search down as that would allow access
to some groups that should be restricted. Example of what I mean below:

Parent
  - old group
 - old restricted Users
 - old Remedy Users
  - new group
 - new restricted Users
 - new Remedy Users

Currently we search 'Old Remedy Users' for authentication of the users. Over
the next few weeks users are being moved from 'Old Remedy Users' to 'New Remedy
Users' in stages. So i need Remedy to be able to authenticate both those
groups without including the Restricted users.

The document is very good but the only thing that I can see that I can use is
to try setting a timeout and Chase refferal settings. I will have another go
this evening.

Thanks
Tony

set it back to you AR server and save.

This should work for a while but you will want to check that it is still
working every now and again. I am not sure what triggers it to stop working
but I have had it stop working after a while until I jiggled the setting
again.

Home Page ARERR 623 - version 8

2012-10-29 Thread Drew Shuller
Good morning everyone.

On a newly installed ARS 8 system, using an IE 9 browser, I can't log in to
the AR Server Home page at http://servername:8080/arsys/home The browser
displays ARERR 623, Authentication failed. But I can log into the Admin
tool, no problem. The user is Demo, with the default password. The mid tier
is working, there's no problem getting into the Config tool.

The AR Server Settings page of the Config Tool shows that I have an AR
Server Admin Password. Should I just change this to the default Demo
password?

BMC support suggests that the Mid-Tier application password doesn't match
the password set in the AR System Application password. The pre-version 8
solution is to ensure that the AR Server Admin Password in the Cong Tool
matches the Mid-Tier Administrator Password in the Server Information page
in the User Tool, but I can't get there because there's no user tool any
more.

Does anyone think we're on the right track here? Would it help to use the
command line tool that lets you create an ar server user?

Re: Home Page ARERR 623 - version 8

2012-10-29 Thread patchsk
I am not very familiar with version 8.0 yet, but once I was told that we
can actually enter the passwords directly in the conf files.
Never validate it though.
So you may optionally try the following until you can hear something from
BMC Support.

Option1:
Enter a decrypted manual password in the Midtier properties file.
Enter the same password in ar.conf file.

Option2:
If you have a working pre 8.0 environment copy the passwords form the
midtier properties and ar.conf files and paste into your 8.0 environment.

Requiring Work Detail On Incident Update

2012-10-29 Thread Frank Caruso
ITSM 764 sp2

Has anyone come up with logic on forcing a Work Detail entry every time an
incident record is updated?

This was a requirement in our old 63 system and was easy since it was just a
Diary field but not so much with individual work info records.

Any advice is appreciated.

Thank you

Re: Requiring Work Detail On Incident Update

2012-10-29 Thread Jason
I've done that one before. Added a display only field that was set when
clicking the work info add button (ztmp_WorkInfoSubmitted). Then added a filter
on Modify to error if that field was null. Excluding status = Resolved.

SLA - Populating Target Date on the Incident

2012-10-29 Thread Kevin Shaffer

ITSM 7.6.04 patch 4 It was my understanding that you could configure the Target
Date on the Incident to be populated with the Next Target Date of your Service
target. I enabled the Incident Estimated Resolution Tracking on the Incident
Response Time Goal type and then went to HPD:Help desk and clicked on Modfy
Filters and then rebuilt my service targets. Did I misunderstand this
functionality or am I missing a step because the Target Date still doesn't get
populated on the Incident? ThanksKevin

Hi vamsi. I was able to download and install a 7.6.04 user tool which
connected to the 8.0 server just fine, as far as the Server Information is
concerned. I changed both passwords to match and now Demo can login on a
web browswer. Thanks for the idea, I was very tempted to try that out.

Notify after Modify All

2012-10-29 Thread Raj
Hi All,
I am trying to send a notification email after performing a Modify All
Operation.
Basically after assigning multiple tickets to a member, I would like to
send a email notification mentioning that the tickets have been assigned to
the particular Assignee.
For e.g., 10 tickets assigned to a Group A, Member - John.
Would like to send out an email saying - the following tickets have been
assigned to you.
list of tickets or any other ideas.

Looks like OPERATION = SET ALL doesn''t work in a filter. Tried doing a
Filter Notify on Modify/Run If as OPERATION = SET ALL but the filter
failed.
Pl advise.
Thanks,
Raj

Current global field values are too large to be stored (AERR 9360)- Remedy error in Midtier

2012-10-29 Thread Ochavillo, Rafael John
Hello everyone,

I would like to ask your help/suggestion in preventing this error from popping
out: “The current global field values are too large to be stored (AERR 9360)”

Basically clearing cache would solve this problem but I was wondering if you
guys have a better solution (sort of like a permanent fix) to prevent this from
happening?

I guess this happens if you have an old version of Remedy (currently sitting at
7.0) and use newer version of browsers. ☺

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks,
Jojo
