Re: Using Struct Admin in Dev Studio

2013-04-02 Thread Aniruddha Deshpande
Jason,

Developer Studio queries forms listed in the documentation for various
purposes. Since struct admin user does not have permissions to these forms and
their fields by default, you get that error.

You must create a group and then assign struct admin user to this group (along
with struct admin group, which you have already done). Next, using
"arpermission" utility you must add this group to all forms listed in the
document and to their fields as well.

Alternatively you may log-in into Developer Studio as administrator and use
bulk edit to assign permissions to forms and their fields.

Re: Date in the holiday list is invalid (ARWARN 625)

2013-04-02 Thread itsm.support
Hi,

It isn't an error but warning. This warning code means the date in the holiday
list of the Business Time Holiday form is not a legal date.
In your case it is an old/expired date. Illegal dates are ignored and
processing continues.

Hi,

Require your expertise again.

The arerror.log file shows the below warning.

Thu Mar 28 06:31:32 2013 390620 : Date in the holiday list is invalid (ARWARN
625)
Thu Mar 28 06:31:32 2013 SGP0009

On checking the support group specified, we found some holiday list configured
as below

01/01/08
07/04/08
11/11/08
12/25/08

Time zone: (GMT-05:00) Eastern Time (US & Canada)

I have removed these holiday list and there is no more warning, but want to
know what was the cause for that warning. Is that due to the date specified has
already expired? I mean, current year is 2013 where as holiday list refers to
2008.

Thanks in Advance,

Shashi

Re: Remedy 7.6.04 -Corrupt Cache / Corrupt Fields

2013-04-02 Thread Greg Donalson
Hi Jamie,

I have received a hotfix from BMC that is supposed to fix the cache corruption.
I plan to apply this next week to see if it helps. But the way that I am
getting by without having to flush the cache as much is to turn off the Perform
Check of the Definition Change Check Interval within the MidTier settings on
the Cache Settings page. This has made a world of difference for me and have
not had any corruption since. The only time you would need to worry about this
is if you are making changes in production and in that case you would just need
to flush the cache for everyone to see the changes, unless of course they are
just filter/escalation changes and then you do not need to flush the cache.

Re: Survey

2013-04-02 Thread Jamie
That is correct. If you don't have SRM installed, you would utilize the
Requester console built within ITSM to send our Surveys in the same fashion, or
at least that is how we did it in 7.5. When we upgraded to 7.6.04 last year,
we installed SRM and now you have to use the SRM SRD and surveys. I think this
is a pain because in order to use this you have to create a SRM request for
every incident and with that all of the INC notifications get trumped by the
SRM notifications because it's hard coded in the INC notification filters to
not send if the INC is attached to a SRM request. I really think this is poor
design, because SRM SHOULD be built to use the SYS:Notifications Messages form
(which is doesn't use) and allow the Administer to say which notifications are
Active vs. Inactive. Instead, since we are only using SRM for surveys at the
moment we had to customize the specific notifications filter to allow INC
notifications to go out instead of the SRM ones.

Email engine Issues in v8.1

2013-04-02 Thread John Baker

JD

I've had a thought. If there's a space at the end of a JVM option, id
"-Da=b " (without the double quotes) in the configuration tool, the JVM
may do what you witnessed. I recall something similar when recording a
JSS video.

I see you've given up and used v8, but thought I'd share this for
completeness.

Re: Email engine Issues in v8.1 (RESOLVED!)

2013-04-02 Thread JD Hood
BLUF: I gave up on the v8.1 email engine, downloaded the ARS v8.0
installer (which allows you to install just the email engine) and
installed that version. Works like a charm now.

I had verified the registry settings til' my eyes bled and each time I
looked at them, I couldn't find anything amiss.

Java heap settings were 256m and 1024m.

I had initially wanted to just reinstall the email engine with the ARS
installer; however, the installer I have for v8.1 does not allow you
to select only the email engine.

I did manage to manually reinstall it the hard way. Comparing it's
settings to a known-good working system did not reveal anything out of
sorts.

Permissions were proper. Paths were checked, and rechecked and copy &
pasted again just to be triple sure.

The email engine just wouldn't run Java was right there with a clean
path (no spaces) and I can't recall how many times I checked it's path
in the various settings.

I'm out of time and did not want to leave with a non-functioning email
engine, so I fell back to the v8.0 installer which *does* allow you to
install only the email engine.

And it works just fine now. I'll never know what the problem was with
the v8.1 email engine on this particular implementation, but
everybody's happy and mail is going out.

Thanks,
-JDHood

Ok, so yes it looks like an error but it isn't.

There is an assumption that you all won't wait until the last minute, in
fact there is an incentive not to: IF we have tie votes and too many papers,
we will go by date of submission as the tie breaker, so submit early, submit
often (different topics of course).

Don't forget to bug your BMC reps about what they are presenting and who
they are sending :-)

IF you aren't presenting, you will want to be there to hear the
presentations, so register early for the best rate, and don't forget to book
your hotel room as soon as possible, the hotel was sold out last year and we
are expecting more people this year.

The WWRUG2013 Advisory Board is excited to announce that the Call for Papers
is officially open as of April 2, 2013 for the WWRUG13 Conference!

The Process:
Our process involves a few steps ?
1. Login to the portal (www.wwrug.org/register) and create an account
(will require your Bio ? 1000 characters or less, Photo, and shirt size).
2. Once created, you will use this account to login and submit your
topics (www.wwrug.org), including a Synopsis (summary of your topic, brief ?
750 characters or less), and an Abstract (full description of the topic).
3. Select the Technical Skill Level (Entry Level, Intermediate,
Advanced, or None), Classification (Product, Service, Case Study,
Educational, Integration, or Other), Categorization (AR System ? Core, ITSM,
CMDB, ADDM, Custom Application, OnDemand or Other), and Specification
(Technical, Management, Training, Vendor or Other).
4. Topics will be reviewed and notices of status will be sent to you as
the submitter by 15 May 2013.
5. If your topic is selected by the WWRUG13 Board, you will be notified
by 15 May and will be asked to submit a rough draft of your presentation (in
the format of the PowerPoint template downloaded from the portal) using your
account and the portal where the account was created.
HELPFUL TIPS TO MINIMIZE THE REVISIONS ON YOUR PART (aka - common errors
found by WWRUG Advisory Board):
A. Ensure you download the template from the portal
B. Omit any extra formatting (like company specific headers, footers,
proprietary notices, etc.)
C. Review each page to make sure you have the page number, header,
footer, in place
D. All slide titles need to be on a single line
E. Make sure the font is consistent throughout the entire presentation
F. Graphics may not cover the header, footer or page number, must be
visible on the page and not extend past the borders
G. Use spell check to ensure your content is spelled correctly

6. Once the WWRUG Advisory Board reviews your draft, you may be asked
to make changes and upload them via the portal.
7. Deadlines are strictly enforced this year. As part of the
submission process, you will be presented with the Speakers Agreement and
asked to agree with the terms before you can proceed. Failure to meet the
deadlines will result in your topic being dropped from the Conference, no
exceptions.
8. The deadlines are listed here below:
a. Submission of ABSTRACT, SYNOPSIS and TOPIC ? Due Date of May 15,
2013
b. Submission of rough draft of PRESENTATION to be considered by WWRUG
? Due Date of June 15, 2013
c. Revision and editing as required by WWRUG
d. Submission of revisions to WWRUG ? Due Date of July 11, 2013

General Information:
1. If your topic is selected, your Conference fees will be ?Paid in
Full,? if you register for the conference by May 31, 2013.
2. ALL DRAFTS must use the WWRUG13 Template provided on the website via
the portal. Submissions not using this format will be rejected.
3. ALL revisions will be uploaded to the site, no emailed submissions
or updates will be accepted.
To create your account use this link: (www.wwrug.org/register) If you

RESOLVED: Dev Studio fails to open one specific form (Eclipse error)

2013-04-02 Thread Rick Westbrock
I did not try that as a matter of fact. I just closed out of Dev Studio and
opened it again in a different but existing workspace as a test, the form
opened just fine. Thanks for the tip, I will definitely remember that going
forward. Unfortunately I have to get my space configured the way I like it
(since I never used this other workspace it isn't personalized yet) but I
could have saved myself an hour had I posted here first. I also spent close
to ten minutes with the BMC rep repeating back all the details of my ARS and
operation system and she never suggested using a different workspace.

(On a tangent she even asked me to upload the def file of my problem form
even though I told her nobody else was having the issue and I had imported
the def file under a different form name and could open that form just
fine).

Thanks very much,

Rick

Hello all-

not make any changes) multiple times over a two week period and then one day
it threw that error when I tried to open it.

I had someone else on my team open the form from their machine and they had
no problem and I can open any other object on the server with no issues. I
decided it must be my client so I tried various things and today ended up
doing the following in order:
* Uninstall Dev Studio
* Uninstall Java
* Reboot
* Install Java (version 7, update 17)
* Reboot
* Install Dev Studio
* Reboot
* Change devstudio.ini to use -Xms512m and -Xmx1024m
* Run Dev Studio with no preference server (per KA317371)

I still get the same error (which is actually an Eclipse error) and I'm
stumped. The problem is opening the form on our development server so I
exported a definition file of that form from the QA server; Migrator on my
laptop is able to check that def file against the dev server to see that
they are an exact match. That BMC article referenced above says to disable
Dev Cache mode but we don't want to do that on our development server (and
again nobody else has this issue).

I even had a def file from the dev server that I had exported previously so
I imported it under a different name and I can open that copy of the form
with no problem. I didn't want to import it under the same name since I'm
the only one having a problem with this form. System details are below and
I'm open to any and all suggestions, I do have a case open with BMC but
figured I'd hit up the brain trust here as well. I pasted the huge set of
Java error messages that are shown below for anyone who can make sense of
them.

Not a bugger at all. I hijacked your account and figured it out. It was
role issue; my bad. Looks like you were an attendee last year and now
registering to be a presenter. I didn't account for that when I restored
the last year's registration info into the system for this year.

You are all set now.

@Everybody, I'll work on ironing this use case out. If you end up with the
same issue just shoot me an email and I'll update your role in the meantime
(jason.mil...@gmail.com). This will only affect past attendees that are
submitting Topics for WWRUG13.

I definitely am seeing topics from last year (I recognized the Genius Bar
and Zero-Downtime talks right off the bat), but even on a clean VM, the
only link in my left navbar is for settings->change password. The only
link on the top navbar is for Logout.

I did clear my cache and I have tried across firefox/chrome/IE.

Not trying to be a bugger, but I figure if it's wrong for me, there are
probably a few other people affected as well. My login is the email

Virtual Support Agent usage

2013-04-02 Thread Pierson, Shawn
Good afternoon,

I'm curious if anyone has deployed the virtual agent in 8.x yet, and if so, how
successful has it gone for you? How complex of a conversation can you map to
it, if at all?

On a more humorous note, I've considered not advertising it as a part of the
upgrade, swapping out the picture with one of myself, and making sure that my
RKM and other data fits with it so I can make people think it's a chat with me
to get help with Remedy rather than artificial intelligence. I would then need
to extend it to integrate it with incoming email and set my email up as a MAPI
inbox for Remedy, and tie it in with our instant messenger. My manager and
director would likely give me approval to do this in order to reduce the flow
of "incidents" of people contacting me directly instead of using SRM, our email
integration with Incidents, or going directly to Incident Management to assign
something to us.

Thanks,

Shawn Pierson

Dev Studio fails to open one specific form (Eclipse error)

2013-04-02 Thread Rick Westbrock
Hello all-

I have run into a strange problem with Dev Studio throwing this error when I
try to open a regular form "Could not open the editor: An exception was
thrown during initialization". I had been opening this form to view it (but
not make any changes) multiple times over a two week period and then one day
it threw that error when I tried to open it.

I had someone else on my team open the form from their machine and they had
no problem and I can open any other object on the server with no issues. I
decided it must be my client so I tried various things and today ended up
doing the following in order:
* Uninstall Dev Studio
* Uninstall Java
* Reboot
* Install Java (version 7, update 17)
* Reboot
* Install Dev Studio
* Reboot
* Change devstudio.ini to use -Xms512m and -Xmx1024m

I pasted the huge set of
Java error messages that are shown below for anyone who can make sense of
them.

Dev Studio 7.6.04 SP2
Server OS: Windows 2008 Enterprise SP

2013-04-02 Thread Jason Miller
Hi Steve,

Do you see the cell table with all of the sessions from last year? If that
is what you are seeing can you clear your browser cache?

I would hope if you accessed the site back in Oct/Nov on that same machine
that you would have received the latest definitions today but it doesn't
sound like it.

Like we tell our users, flush browser cache and try again :)

Once you have the correct defs there will be a submission link on the left
navigation. You should only see your submission in the table field.

We are working on getting the updated PowerPoint templates posted. Once
they are available they'll be in the Submission section with "Submit New
Topic."

Peter,

Are you looking at purchasing each direction separately or at round trip
packages? Round trips from London to San Jose seem to be about $1200 USD for
September 28 to October 6 (via the Orbitz website) (assuming you would like an
extra day to adjust for jet-lag). If you fly into San Francisco instead of San
Jose it's about $100 USD cheaper, but you get stuck in a shuttle bus for a
couple extra hours (and it's on the "wrong" side of the road).

Go look at Virgin-Atlantic economy. Cramped, but those dates are about $800 USD
round trip.

Not that we're recommending a specific airline. Just come on over and learn
something new!

There is always plenty of entertaining stuff to enjoy and explore in The Bay
Area...

Re: WWRUG13 - Call for Papers Announcement

2013-04-02 Thread Steve Kallestad
I'm a little confused as well.

I went to register and I had an existing account so I reset my password.

Once logged in, I am taken to the WWRug:Home form attendee view.

I can't really do anything but look at the contents of the table field
listing the existing topics. I don't see how to download a template or
submit a topic. Even opening an existing topic results in a permissions
error.

I'm unsure if there's a problem with my account or my ability to read
instructions :)

I'd appreciate any help or direction.

Thanks,
Steve

Hi,
What are the settings in the registry for the following Parameters (which
determines what JVM you are attempting to start with the Service and if it
is 32/64 bit - this is what Parshuram was referring too)? I will list the
default for 64 bit in the brackets.
It would also be prevalent to check the start up "-Xms" & "-Xmx" parameters
to see if these are too high for the JVM to start correctly:

JD,

Did you take a look at the process monitor utility? You can filter the
output by process to make it easier to read. It can be daunting to go
through but it will probably lead you straight to the problem. Obviously
you are having a different issue than I did, but in case it helps, here are
the lines that helped me track the problem down:

Time of Day Process Name PID Operation Path Result 52:21.2 aremaild.exe

aremaild.exe 3340 CreateFile C:\Windows\System32\wbem\MSVCR100.dll NAME NOT

...

You can see it trying to find that file, and each of those folders were in
my system path which was the clue I needed.

Anyway, do let us know what the resolution is.

Please clarify the deadlines.

:Point 8a states the deadline for submission of ABSTRACT, SYNOPSIS and TOPIC
is May 15th.

:However points 4 and 5 indicate that the topic will be reviewed and
selection notices will be sent out by the May 15th.

Is that timing correct?

Subject: WWRUG13 - Call for Papers Announcement

The WWRUG2013 Advisory Board is excited to announce that the Call for Papers is
officially open as of April 2, 2013 for the WWRUG13 Conference!

The Process:
Our process involves a few steps ?
1. Login to the portal (www.wwrug.org/register) and create an account
(will require your Bio ? 1000 characters or less, Photo, and shirt size).
2. Once created, you will use this account to login and submit your topics
(www.wwrug.org), including a Synopsis (summary of your topic, brief ? 750
characters or less), and an Abstract (full description of the topic).
3. Select the Technical Skill Level (Entry Level, Intermediate, Advanced,
or None), Classification (Product, Service, Case Study, Educational,
Integration, or Other), Categorization (AR System ? Core, ITSM, CMDB, ADDM,
Custom Application, OnDemand or Other), and Specification (Technical,
Management, Training, Vendor or Other).
4. Topics will be reviewed and notices of status will be sent to you as
the submitter by 15 May 2013.
5. If your topic is selected by the WWRUG13 Board, you will be notified by
15 May and will be asked to submit a rough draft of your presentation (in the
format of the PowerPoint template downloaded from the portal) using your
account and the portal where the account was created.
HELPFUL TIPS TO MINIMIZE THE REVISIONS ON YOUR PART (aka - common errors found
by WWRUG Advisory Board):
A. Ensure you download the template from the portal
B. Omit any extra formatting (like company specific headers, footers,
proprietary notices, etc.)
C. Review each page to make sure you have the page number, header, footer,
in place
D. All slide titles need to be on a single line
E. Make sure the font is consistent throughout the entire presentation
F. Graphics may not cover the header, footer or page number, must be
visible on the page and not extend past the borders
G. Use spell check to ensure your content is spelled correctly

6. Once the WWRUG Advisory Board reviews your draft, you may be asked to
make changes and upload them via the portal.
7. Deadlines are strictly enforced this year. As part of the submission
process, you will be presented with the Speakers Agreement and asked to agree
with the terms before you can proceed. Failure to meet the deadlines will
result in your topic being dropped from the Conference, no exceptions.
8. The deadlines are listed here below:
a. Submission of ABSTRACT, SYNOPSIS and TOPIC ? Due Date of May 15, 2013
b. Submission of rough draft of PRESENTATION to be considered by WWRUG ?
Due Date of June 15, 2013
c. Revision and editing as required by WWRUG
d. Submission of revisions to WWRUG ? Due Date of July 11, 2013

General Information:
1. If your topic is selected, your Conference fees will be ?Paid in Full,?
if you register for the conference by May 31, 2013.
2. ALL DRAFTS must use the WWRUG13 Template provided on the website via
the portal. Submissions not using this format will be rejected.
3. ALL revisions will be uploaded to the site, no emailed submissions or
updates will be accepted.
To create your account use this link: (www.wwrug.org/register) If you already
have an account - submit your topic, download the PowerPoint template, upload
your draft or revisions, login to the portal by using this link:

To view this information on our webpage go to http://www.wwrug13.com/papers.html

We have a short window based upon the timelines above but we already have two
papers from industry veterans!

2013-04-02 Thread Peter Romain
I’d be flying back to London. All flights seemed to be the same price -
£1400-£1500 but flying in they are £400-£500

The prices drop back to £400-£500 for flights out on the 6th so if I attend it
may mean paying the hotel and restaurants a little more but enjoying a couple
of extra days in the area rather than paying the airline extra money!

Listers,

We had to wait until April 2nd, because this is definitely not an April Fool's
posting. And besides, David Easter's post yesterday was so good

The World Wide Remedy Users Group is pleased to formally announce the details
of our 2013 conference. We look forward to seeing you and spending a week
immersed in all things BMC, Remedy, ITSM and ITIL, with great offerings from
additional vendors and well over a hundred breakout sessions! We'll see you at
The Fairmont San Jose in San Jose, California, USA, September 30th through
October 4th, 2013 .

There is much to tell this year, and the WWRUG13 website is now up at
http://www.wwrug13.com .

The WWRUG13.com website has registration details (yes,
earlier is cheaper!), links to hotel lodging at the conference rate,
preliminary schedules, opportunities for sponsorship, participation in the
technology showcase for vendors and some slightly sentimental photos of what we
did last year. Want to know more? Visit http://www.wwrug13.com
 .

We don't yet have a schedule of topics and presentations for all the breakout
sessions. That's because much of this material comes from YOU! Some is provided
by BMC and showcase vendors, but the vast majority of WWRUG conference sessions
are presented by people who use (or build!) BMC/Remedy software every day and
have learned something along the way. Thats one of the things that makes this
conference so great! Watch for postings in the ARSlist later today with details
on how you can submit your own topics for consideration. (BIG HINT: presenters
get in FREE, so start thinking about your topics NOW).

WWRUG13 is six months from now, but many people need advance planning time for
training and travel. You'll save money by registering early too.

Please take a few minutes to cruise over to http://www.wwrug13.com
today, and we'll see you in San Jose!

Re: Email engine Issues in v8.1

2013-04-02 Thread JD Hood
I've made a list of the JAR's referenced in that registry setting, and
all are referenced directly in the \AREmail directory. Quite a few of
them do not exist at that \AREmail path as a separate "jar" file in my
system and some don't even exist on the server at all in any path that
I can find:

Exists - activation.jar
Exists - arapi81_build001.jar
Exists - armapi81_build001.jar
Exists - arutil81_build001.jar
Exists - emaildaemon.jar
Exists - imap.jar
Exists - log4j-1.2.14.jar
Exists - mail.jar
Exists - pop3.jar
Exists - smtp.jar

Nope - arcmn81_build001.jar
Nope - arrpc81_build001.jar
Nope - commons-beanutils.jar
Nope - commons-codec-1.3.jar
Nope - commons-collections-3.2.jar
Nope - commons-configuration-1.3.jar
Nope - commons-digester-1.7.jar
Nope - commons-lang-2.2.jar
Nope - commons-logging-1.1.jar
Nope - icu4j.jar
Nope - Logger.jar
Nope - oncrpc.jar
Nope - spring.jar

But, looking at a working system, I see the same situation, so I'm not
sure that is significant...

Thanks,
-JDHood

If you check in the registry you will find all of the parameters that
are utilized by the service when running as a service vs running via the
command line, you may find your answer in the java path in the registry.

WWRUG13 - Call for Papers Announcement

2013-04-02 Thread bullcreek.com
The WWRUG2013 Advisory Board is excited to announce that the Call for Papers is
officially open as of April 2, 2013 for the WWRUG13 Conference!

The Process:
Our process involves a few steps –
1. Login to the portal (www.wwrug.org/register) and create an account
(will require your Bio – 1000 characters or less, Photo, and shirt size).
2. Once created, you will use this account to login and submit your topics
(www.wwrug.org), including a Synopsis (summary of your topic, brief – 750
characters or less), and an Abstract (full description of the topic).
3. Select the Technical Skill Level (Entry Level, Intermediate, Advanced,
or None), Classification (Product, Service, Case Study, Educational,
Integration, or Other), Categorization (AR System – Core, ITSM, CMDB, ADDM,
Custom Application, OnDemand or Other), and Specification (Technical,
Management, Training, Vendor or Other).
HELPFUL TIPS TO MINIMIZE THE REVISIONS ON YOUR PART
(aka - common errors found by WWRUG Advisory Board):

8. The deadlines are listed here below:
a. Submission of ABSTRACT, SYNOPSIS and TOPIC – Due Date of May 15, 2013
b. Submission of rough draft of PRESENTATION to be considered by WWRUG –
Due Date of June 15, 2013
c. Revision and editing as required by WWRUG
d. Submission of revisions to WWRUG – Due Date of July 11, 2013

General Information:
1. If your topic is selected, your Conference fees will be “Paid in Full,”
if you register for the conference by May 31, 2013.
2. ALL DRAFTS must use the WWRUG13 Template provided on the website via
the portal. Submissions not using this format will be rejected.
3. ALL revisions will be uploaded to the site, no emailed submissions or
updates will be accepted.
To create your account use this link: (www.wwrug.org/register)
If you already have an account - submit your topic, download the PowerPoint
template, upload your draft or revisions, login to the portal by using this
link: (www.wwrug.org)

To view this information on our webpage go to http://www.wwrug13.com/papers.html

We have a short window based upon the timelines above but we already have two
papers from industry veterans!

I am well and truly stumped!

At this point, I'm wondering about the differences between running as a service

the issue. If I ever stumble across the resolution, I'll post it.

see a program try to read a file -- then die right after that -- but never give
a good message.

Then -- you would change the permissions - so it could see the file - then
bingo - it works.

I did not know such a Window util existed.

WWRUG13, it's official!

2013-04-02 Thread Doug Blair

We'll see you at
The Fairmont San Jose in San Jose, California, USA, September 30th through
October 4th, 2013.

There is much to tell this year, and the WWRUG13 website is now up at
http://www.wwrug13.com.

The WWRUG13.com website has registration details (yes, earlier is cheaper!),
links to hotel lodging at the conference rate, preliminary schedules,
opportunities for sponsorship, participation in the technology showcase for
vendors and some slightly sentimental photos of what we did last year. Want to
know more? Visit http://www.wwrug13.com.

Please take a few minutes to cruise over to http://www.wwrug13.com today, and
we'll see you in San Jose!

Doug

Re: CentOS 6.3 Installation Port Mapper Issue

2013-04-02 Thread Ben Chernys
I had to edit the rpc file first but then I did not install ARS as root. I
don't know off-hand what version of CentOS I have as the machine is not
started.

The install went smoothly. Remember the limits settings as documented by
BMC. Follow all the doc steps completely.

I also gave the machine two Ethernet cards as Oracle tends to like a fixed
IP. (One uses DHCP and the other is hard coded). I always have access to
the machine even if I am not on my own LAN that way.

Perf is OK. I give the CentOS 8Gb and 2 dual cores on a 16GB and a i7xxx.
If I do intensive things (like build 100 archive forms) ARS chews up memory
and then I will restart the OS. I find the CentOS perf is better than the
Windows Server 2003 x64 / SQL perf but no real performance testing was done.

The stack installer completed in under two hours.

Cheers

Ben

Hi Ben,

Overall performance of CentOS 6.3 was also not good. I tried installing it
on RHEL 5.3 and all went pretty smooth and I do see all these entries in
/etc/rpc

# Action Request System daemons

arserverd 390600 arserverd

arserverd 390693 arserverd

arserverd 390694 arserverd

arserverd 390695 arserverd

I am planning to try it on CentOS 6.4. In case, I again face port mapper
issues, do I have to manually put these entries in /etc/rpc before starting
with the installation?

You need to follow the installation instructions - exactly. I got caught by
this too.

Change the limits as specified, but your real cause of error is not
modifying the rpc file by appending .

Nathan,

Did you check the portmapper process/daemon is running on that box.

Also I am not sure whether BMC would support Remedy on CentOS as it is not
mentioned in their Comp Matrix.

But the Remedy would work on CentOS as it using the bin/lib of RHEL...

Thanks.

I am trying to install ARS 7.6.04 SP2 on 64 bit Centos 6.3 on top of Oracle
database. For now, I am using same machine to install db, midtier and AR
Server.

This is what I did

- Created a user in OS oracle and installed oracle database using this user
at

  /home/oracle/app/

- Installed ARS using root user

Installation goes fine, but in the end, during system validation checks, I
get a message

"AR System Server unable to create (390600, 0) for TCP"

User Tool gives this error when trying to connect to AR Server.

ARERR [90] Cannot establish a network connection to the AR System server
RPC: Program not registered

Then I did re-installation with following

Register with Portmapper: NO

AR System Server TCP Port Number: 8081

AR System Server Plug-in TCP Port Number: 8082

and it worked fine.

Are there any issues if we we keep "Register with Portmapper: YES"?

Shashi
