Hi Neha, Thanks for this. I believe space can be the issue. Actually I was having this issue on both DEV environment and TEST environment. Re: Diary field usage
Hi, Long ago I created a tool to help converting your current diary-fields to a sub-form instead. The interface is kind of crude, but it is quite powerful. For example it can pull out assignments and status changes into separate fields, under the condition that you have stored these in the diary field originally. RRR|DiaryX: https://rrr.se/cgi/index?pg=diaryx And yes, sub-reports make it possible to do reports on individual tickets and the diary data from the sub-form. Best Regards - Misi, RRR AB, http://www.rrr.se (ARSList MVP 2011) Ask the Remedy Licensing Experts (Best R.O.I. Award at WWRUG10/11/12/13): * RRR|License - Not enough Remedy licenses? Save money by optimizing. * RRR|Log - Performance issues or elusive bugs? Analyze your Remedy logs. Find these products, and many free tools and utilities, at http://rrr.se. Hi John, We still use diary fields in some cases here, but, due to their limitations, we have been steering clear of using them - same for status history. We prefer to use a related companion form with workflow and a table field on the main form to store a Work Log in stead of a Diary Field because of the extra possibilities it offers for expansion and reporting. (same goes for Status History). At the end of the day, if you are talking about a Work Log or status history on a small data form somewhere in the background of your application, sure, use the Diary and standard Status History, but if you are talking about a main application form, rather go with the related companion form to store a Work Log (or Status History). Reporting on the related form is relatively easy to do with sub-reports etc. If you are using Oracle, you could even use the LISTAGG function to combine your related records into a single column value on a SQL Query or DB view you create. Charlie and Rick, Thanks for the feedback. I have used this in a similar fashion as the Incident Work Info section on a home-grown system here. We are actually going in that direction now because some of the Work information log data need to be sent to the customer for status. I didn’t think our engineers would want to use one diary field for work logging and another for customer status notices. We also frequently pass tickets between functional groups and will need to allow for tracking billable time. So it is going to be our method forward for most applications. Theo, As for reporting, I’m using MS SQL Server 2008 and have not had time to work on MS SQL Server Reporting tool or BIRT to make some canned reports. I’ve tried joins and the multiple parent record fields are an issue with people who use .csv exports to excel. They’re also the ones who complain about too much data in a diary field getting truncated in excel. So I’m hoping I can come up with a way to filter unnecessary records from the Work Information table. Misi, You always seem to have tool on the shelf for everyone’s needs. Thanks, I’ll take a look at it when they ask me to convert the archived diary field data to individual records. You both mentioned sub-reports. With regard to the expected content, if you're planning to document something with a relatively limited life-cycle and not a lot of content, then I think diary fields are an excellent choice: they're very easy to create and maintain and don't require setting up the child form, workflow, and UI needed to support it that the PK/FK paradigm requires. But if you're planning to document something with an indefinite life-cycle, where the content may grow continuously, then diary fields become a bad choice. Remember that these are stored in your DB as a blob (text, ntext, etc), so the entire content needs to be read and written on each access or update (respectively). What's worse is that this entire content needs to be transferred over the wire multiple times (from DB to ARS to mid-tier to client and back again). This obviously gets cumbersome when the content is very large. With regard to planned usage, if you're planning on setting up complex searching (or reporting) on the content, diary fields are difficult to use. On the other hand, if you plan to use the content only for review (e.g. users will only need to read through them to see what happened and when), then diary fields are perfect for the job. Hope this helps. -charlie On Mon, Sep 29, 2014 at 3:35 PM, Rick Cook remedyr...@gmail.commailto:remedyr...@gmail.com wrote: ** Yes, they are not the best practice any more. Using the driver application to create packing lists within another packing list
Hello Listers, I hope someone can shed some light on this. We have rapid deployments in our environment so we are trying to automate the creation of packing lists to automate our releases. So here's the scenario: 1. Every developer creates packing lists containing workflow elements (including forms) to satisfy business requirements. 2. A developer creates a final release packing list containing all the other packing lists. Based on our experience, adding the packing lists as references to the final packing list has been problematic*, so the developer has to add the contents of every packing list into the final packing list. As you can imagine this is extremely tedious. 3. Then we run a large query to ensure that all the contents within all the packing lists match the final packing list. If all the contents match, we know our final packing list is ready for promotion. So what we're trying to do is use the driver application to create a final packing list that contains the contents of all the packing lists that we define. We have run the driver application multiple times and it seems it does not have the functionality to add the contents of one packing list to another. So we've tried to add just the references and that does not work either? We were able to create an empty packing list but that's where it stops. Does anyone know why this is not working? Or even better, does anyone have other suggestions on how to automate deployments in Remedy? This would include importing data into tables, and importing definition files also. On the side, I tried to understand the structure of packing lists at the db level. I looked at the arcontainer and arreference tables. There is a safeguard field on the arcontainer table that gets filled in with a really long string. Does anyone know how this data is generated? If we can create the packing list at the db level, that may be a solution but the data dictionary tables don't really show all the relationships. * We've seen cases where workflow objects that don't belong to any packing lists referenced, show up in the final packing list!! This made us to start using the contents of the packing lists instead and so far we've not had any issues. Environment: Oracle v 10.2 64 bit Remedy 7.5.00 Patch 003 ---Sample commands run- Command: cco CREATE CONTAINER Container name: DRIVERCONTAINER01 Permission List: Number of permission defns (0): Ids of sub admin groups allowed to access container: Number of ids (0): Number of container owner objects (0): Label (): DRIVERCONTAINER01 Description (): DRIVERCONTAINER01 Active Link Guide, Application, Packing List, Filter Guide (1-4) (2): 3 Number of references (0): 1 Reference label (): TEST1 Reference description (): TEST1 Reference type none, schema, filter, escl, actlink, container, charmenu, image (0,2-8) (0): 6 References data type ARS,external (0,1) (0): ARS reference name (): TEST1 Remove invalid references? (F): Help Text (): Owner (): Change Diary (): Number of Properties (0): ARCreateContainer results ReturnCode: OK Status List : 0 items -- TEST1 is another empty packing list that already exists. DRIVERCONTAINER01 is the new packing list I'm creating. Results: DRIVERCONTAINER01 is created but it does not reference packing list TEST1?? I have tested this many different ways but it just doesn't work. Can someone run this scenario and see if you get similar behavior? Automated use of the Data Wizard to rename multiple Companies..
Has anyone attempted this? Here is the challenge. I had attempted to use that Data Wizard to automatically rename a bunch of companies if the name in the AR System did not match the name for the same company from another system - both these systems related the Company records by the Corporate ID, which is the PK between the two systems for Company records. Just for the records the other system is not an AR System based system. So I have a AIE job looking up that other system, reading new company records or modifying existing company records. All this works fine except for the Company name (which is not a simple update to just the COM:Company form only. To update the bunch of other forms that may contain a Company field, for Company name changes I was using the Data Wizard in my workflow. However, the design of the Data Wizard is to process a single rename at a time and to lock the Wizard until that rename is done by creating a record in the DLD:Lock form. This lock record does not allow another record to be created in the DLD:SYS:DataWizAction form, if a lock record exists in the DLD:Lock form. The only way to rename a bunch of companies then is to individually rename each qualifying record. So obviously, I have to reconsider my previous attempt to push a record in the DLD:SYS:DataWizAction form, as after the first record is pushed there, if there is another that the AIE job encounters that qualifies for a rename, it would fail to push a record in the DLD:SYS:DataWizAction form. How would you'll handle this if you'll were tasked to do the same thing considering that I cannot have it done simultaneously as the AIE job runs, but build a list of renames that need to be done, and then work individually on each record. Escalations would probably not be a mechanism to accomplish this as an Escalation would run over the whole list of companies to be renamed and attempt to create DLD:SYS:DataWizAction records one after the other and all records after the first record, subsequent records would fail. I was then thinking of some sort of a Filter loop or a server side table walk but have not got through that whole thought process yet... Any other possibilities I might be not looking at? My last option would be manually triggering each rename because I would like as little human intervention in the process as is possible - IF possible.. Re: Automated use of the Data Wizard to rename multiple Companies..
Joe, Perhaps a staging form is needed: 1. Instead of trying to submit into DLD:SYS:DataWizAction, create a Staging form that can accept all the rename requests generated. It should contain the data you would push. 2. An Escalation on DLD:Lock runs if the Lock is OFF; to push a trigger [i.e. Status(7)=Go] to the 'first record found' in the Staging form. 3. Pushing the trigger to the Staging form starts the rename process filters, including the Lock that will prevent the next escalation from firing too soon. Re: ITSM 8.1 and Openfire (BMC Chat)
Hi Daniel, LJ is right and that’s the way to configure it. Openfire server integration in ARS doesn’t support high availability or failover as of now, so you need to install only a single instance and set your configuration to point to that instance. Please do read the first note on this page https://docs.bmc.com/docs/display/public/ars81/Installing+and+configuring+the+Openfire+chat+server Thanks and Regards, Ashutosh. Hi, Why not go for Client Side Filter Logs? You just need to make sure you belong to the Client Side Logging Group specified in the Log Files tab you mentioned. Then you go in to your User Preference Record and enable it. Close the logging window just before the operation you want to investigate. But some things not directly triggered by you will indeed require server side logs, which I have never seen fail. If the log is too big, you might have problems getting the file through ARUser/Mid-Tier. You should log in to the server on the OS level to get it.
