Get over it? Nice. Exactly the kind of customer service we've come to expect. I don't see this as being nearly so traumatic as the weaning process from the printed books was to many people. I'm just observing that the change seems to be problematic and semi-traumatic to our early-adopters here, hence the general tone of the thread. If this list is an important source for the exchange of ideas within the developer community, I still ask if the concept was ever floated here prior to implementation. Again, if I missed that thread... my apologies. I'm wagering that the positive feedback for use of the Wiki format would have been limited. I used the books. I used the PDFs. I'll use the Wiki. BMC discussed the idea of changing to wiki based documentation at WWRUG 2011 in the general session (I know because I discussed it). And, this has been talked about in User Groups and other gatherings in the year since then. BMC has some products that are using wiki based documentation - the ADDM product for example - and have been for several years and have gotten a lot of positive customer feedback on the concept. BMC did have discussions with various advisory boards and customers in general about the concept of moving to a new approach for documentation and received pretty much universal comments that a move to a more interactive approach that is available from anywhere, can be linked easily, can be commented on and updated quickly was a good approach to take. No, BMC did not talk with every customer individually about the change, but there was over a year of prior discussion that there was going to be a change and there was exploration of the topic with many customers well in advance of any move. Yes this is different (and I am someone who loves books and want the paper in my hands and refuses to use electronic books of any form). There is a different feel and there is a different interaction paradigm. There have been several comments from folks where there have been problems interacting with the docs. If you have comments/suggestions about specific data or specific pages, definitely use the comments section and as has been shared, the doc team is actively watching and responding to comments. If there are larger issues like general navigation concerns or problems getting to functions like printing, just include a note in your posting that you would be willing to talk with the doc team about your experience and I am sure that I can have someone in contact with you to listen to your feedback (just like there was a team at WWRUG 2012 to do just that) and see if there isn't something more generic that can be changed. Overall, the idea of online doc, more wiki style is a style of documentation that more and more customers are asking for and expecting. There was a similar reaction to the change from printed documents to on-line only documents that happened 5 to 7 years ago. If you are having challenges, please leave comments or volunteer to have a discussion with the doc team so they can provide the best doc experience possible. Re: ARERR 300 Malloc failed on server
I once forgot to give Public access rights (as in anyone can write to it) to a field on a backend form that I had written and the error only manifested itself as a malloc error. Bothersome is a good word for not receiving any sort of error message related to access rights, but when the rights were granted... the malloc error vanished. Took a while to find that one. I suspect the loop of running a table to perform the write was involved in the memory usage. Things just piled up until it was malloc time. Sadly everyone who had tested the app was using an Admin ID for some reason. Remedy Object Name Extraction Widgets
Two-part question here: 1st... Does anyone know of a quick way to extract JUST THE NAMES of all objects on a Remedy server? (i.e. Forms, Active Links, Filters, etc.) Please tell me that I don't have to manually extract them from a DEF file or type them all. (Please.) My preference is to be able to isolate this by application rather than an entire server dump. 2nd... I have been asked to consider Remedy in terms of widgets as we move to agile development. The first step in that is to define widget as it relates to Remedy development. My thought is that object = widget, though an argument could be made that all actions within objects that support forms could be defined as such. Any thoughts on this or insight on past experience in this process would be appreciated. Thanks, -David AR System 6.03.00 patch 017, Sun OS 5.9, Oracle 10.1.0.2.0-64bi (Yes I know we need to upgrade. The field 'Organization' is on the 361 forms with the same database field ID. Though it may be possible that we can update it at database level, but the same operation needs to be performed on each form. For this we have 'AR System Metadata:field_char' form, where all the meta-data related to character fields are stored. It's a view form. We need to update the meta-data, the related record in order to achieve this. Transferred Object Last Changed Value Set to Timestamp
Folks, My transfers from a 6.3 server to a 7.1 server via Migrator 7.1.00 p006 set the Last Changed Time on each imported object to the time of creation on the server. I thought this might be a problem with the Migrator mask setting, but the same thing happens when definitions that have the correct date are imported via the 7.1 Admin Tool. Any ideas? Thanks, -David ___ UNSUBSCRIBE or access ARSlist Archives at www.arslist.org attend wwrug12 www.wwrug12.com ARSList: Where the Answers Are
Re: Transferred Object Last Changed Value Set to Timestamp
I would swear that some version between this one and the first release of Ostream Migrator that I used back in the nineties didn't do this. It does the same thing with the Admin Tool Import utility. Is this a 7.x feature of some sort? I've imported objects that retain accurate date info before. -Original Message- From: Action Request System discussion list(ARSList) [mailto:arslist@ARSLIST.ORG] On Behalf Of Misi Mladoniczky Sent: Thursday, April 12, 2012 8:47 AM To: arslist@ARSLIST.ORG Subject: Re: Transferred Object Last Changed Value Set to Timestamp Hi, This is how it works in any version, unfortunately... Code... not data. From: Action Request System discussion list(ARSList) [mailto:arslist@ARSLIST.ORG] On Behalf Of Mueller, Doug Sent: Thursday, April 12, 2012 11:54 AM To: arslist@ARSLIST.ORG Subject: Re: Transferred Object Last Changed Value Set to Timestamp Everyone, If you use the Import Tool, simply map the Last Modified Date and Last Modified User fields from the source to the target. It uses the ARMergeEntry() call and if those fields are supplied, the AR System Server will retain them and not set these fields to the current values. If not mapped, they will set these fields to the current values. Now, I would expect you to be able to map these values as well when using other transfer sources like Migrator. IF this is not possible, then there is a limitation in the product and you should definitely send in a problem report so it can be addressed. I import data all the time from old sources all the time and the dates and names are all retained as I map all fields into the system. Take a look at the fields you are mapping and add these if they are not defined. Again, if you cannot include these fields in the mapping for some transfer mechanism or if you do and the values are not retained, then there is a problem that needs reporting and fixing. I know the Import Tool does the right thing because it is working for me. So, you could use the Import Tool to import the data with these fields mapped to get the data transferred correctly today even if there is a problem with another tool. I hope this helps, Doug Mueller From: Action Request System discussion list(ARSList) [mailto:arslist@ARSLIST.ORG] On Behalf Of David M. Transferring in-house 6.3 code to a 7.6.04 server
Folks, I am finally in the process of upgrading our 6.03.00 patch 017 implementation to the latest offered. By upgrade I mean a transfer between old and new servers, not on the same server. The revs are apparently too far apart to use Migrator to transfer code between, so I will be using a 7.1 server as an intermediate transfer point. Migrator 7.1 from the 6.3 box to the 7.1 box, then the latest Migrator from the 7.1 box to the 7.6.04 box. I'll also be using Export/Import tools as needed. Note that no BMC Remedy applications are involved here, though I will be loading ITSM later. My concern now is only with in-house developed code created under or compatible with version 6.3. Solaris and Oracle on both sides. Anyone ever done this or have any suggestions as to problems that I may encounter?
