When you launch that, you will usually be connected to alter aeon. If you had a char there just log it in, otherwise just create a new char by typing N and then pressing enter and follow the steps. Then just play like how you play other MUDs, its no different at all.

Hi. Im trying out Snowrace, both for my own interest and to create a db entry, however Im confused about a couple of things. Firstly and most seriously I cant finish the tutorial! I go through the customize character thing and just hit continue (I think I have the character Andrew), I then go to beginners luck and select the trick tutorial. I go through a left turn, a jump and a dropoff, then after landing from the dropoff nothing happens, I just continue sliding down the mountain with nothing going on, (I left the game running for a good five minutes and nothing happned). Second, where is this trick book? the instructions in the snowrace program folder said it was in customize character, but there are options to customize board and gear, but no trick book. Third, what are all these tracks? Under beginners luck there is the trick tutorial, a stunt circuit, a rally race, a free ride and a gap run. I assumed the tutoria

Hello,If you would like to write a text-based game, I recommend going to the website of a company called Choice of Games. They ahve a free language you can download there called Choice Script. In fact, one of their games, Way Walkers University, was used as a world building starting point for an author, who then went on to develop, and publish, a novel.If youve heard, on iOs or even on the PC, of ames like Choice of The Dragon, choice of Broadsides, Heroes Rise, Zombie Exodus of Fatehaven, then these are all games developed by this same company. What makes it interesting is if you finish a game and you send it to them, they will probably host it. What most people do is sign up to the forums (I dont know what the new interface is like though), and put their game in the work in progress section for people to test script bugs, check for grammatical errors and generally help you out, and unlike most websites, Ive seen no trolling or anything bad go on the
 re. In fact, the community reminds me of this audiogame community right here, these are people who love writing, who want to develop or who just love to play these text games.

A lot of us like to buy our stuff anyway, and people are now talking about what governments are doing right and wrong. I think thats a brilliant idea that the more people know about playable mainstream games, the better. So Ive just realised that I dont know how Im going to reliably be able to pull off an ultra combo. Pressing all three at once is incredibly awkward to say the least. On the upside, Im definitely starting to get the hang of naturally performing more of the motion-based moves on the pad.

BGT is a scripting language. You need to write the scripts in a text editor of your choice and then ask BGT to run them for you.Outside text adventures, there are literally zero options that will let you get what you want and actually look something like RPG Maker or whatever. If you want a game that does something at all, you have to learn to program. There are no drag and drop tools for this market. That said, I seriously question if the ones for the sighted are any good anyway-they let you get to a certain point, but then they all devolve into programming anyway, so maybe its not just us.Nevertheless the blindness isnt an obstacle at all, at least if youre aiming at other blind people. Adding graphics is the only thing you cant do without assistance.Maybe go through the BGT tutorials. That might give you some idea whats going on. It covers the language and then covers some game design. I c
 an probably find better ones, but anything I can find is going to require setting up something which isnt as simple to instal as BGT; if you stick with game design, youll probably graduate to those tools anyway, but no need to drop them on you when you havent programmed before.

This is called the VOICe, though it looks like they might be using a custom version of the idea. You can already get apps to do this on Android and iOS, but youll notice they never took off.Thing is, this requires a lot of training, and its usually just quicker to perform whatever everyday task youre trying to do with touch. Not to mention that using it for navigation is going to block out the external audio channels, you know, things like cars coming right toward you. Some people have had some success using it for navigation, but it requires *both* ears, so I have no idea how they can do stuff like safely cross the street (and cant actually think of an example of such-they all seem to be demos of safe environments like a garden). Its an interesting neuroscience finding though.

Indeed, well have to see where this goes, to see whether it will have appeal to Advanced users; perhaps if they start relying on APIs to do stuff, it arguably could be the next Chicken Nugget or whatever.@Camlorn: I see what youre saying, and Im not arguing with the essential merits of equality. Its very important. But I also think we should be reluctant to overcome problems that are only there because the world doesnt care. As you said, designing to native UIs and APIs has enormously helped to put FS out of business, but as long as theres something we just cant do, or cant do as efficiently, theyll still be around. We of course must try not to perpetuate lock-in, but we must also be mindful of the reality. There are two ways to do this: get the software fixed, or bodge around it. And what Im saying is that as long as bodging around it is a viable strategy for making people happy, theres somebody who needs a smack for not having fixed it, or developed a free alternative to the LEASEY functionality. I dont like it when the horizons of some potential computing landscape, where computer systems know how to handle their users while allowing them to advance to whatever levels of proficiency and comfort are desired, are impeded merely on the basis that we should conform to the one modality which just happens to be the most common, on account of the fact that its the one most people (i.e., not us blind) use. That is a terrible tragedy that must be fixed. If products like LEASEY make it possible for people to enjoy the use of their computers while not interfering with their potential, I cant see any harm in it--certainly no more harm than we now endure from products like JAWS or, in some cases, NVDA with the relevant add-ons installed. The real concern, as you intimated, is that this product will turn into yet another Walled garden which I agree really would be a Very Bad Thing™.

Most of the accessible games out there are audio only, which unintentionally exclude the sighted and further marginalize the blind.We have been inspired by our daughter Daisy, who is blind. We have spent our life watching her being left out of games at school, in the playground, and more recently, being excluded from video gaming sessions. Daisy’s dream is to be able to play with her sighted siblings and friends on an equal footing. Last Christmas, we decided to make her dream come true. We formed Audazzle Ltd. to develop video games that use 3D sound and dazzling graphics to attract both the blind and non blind, thus leveling the playing field. @dark Free ride is exactly what it means, its a infanant free ride. I had pland to remove the tutorial, but since ethin was the one who made the release, he forgot to clean up quite a few things, and tutorial and board park modes were one of the things. Grafics were in the very early betas of the game, they were removed much layter on. The event types youve got are stunt circuit, which is a run down the hill to do as menny tricks as you can. Race rally is against a bot in a race, and gate run is an attempt to find all the flags as you go down the hill, though you only unlock this at rank 3. And the documentation is way out of date, it comes from the early days of snow race and I kind of rote it up in a rush, since writing documentation was never really my thing.

I think that this is easily solvable by playing both the sounds around you through a microphone and the sounds that show shapes at the same time, I dont think this is a very big problem, you could even hear the sounds around you in 3d using two mics placed on your headset. it would be a lot helpful than a cane because a cam can see at greater distance. I would love if such a device will be released into the market.

Ive been experimenting with using HRTF. It does a good for me when playing sounds that are left/right of the listener, and above/below to the left or to the right. However, all of the datasets Ive tried so far arent that good for allowing the listener to distinguish height of the sound when its directly above/below. The kemar dataset that is what openal-soft uses by default seems to be the best so far, and Ive also tried some data sets from the listen hrtf database. Does anyone have any suggestions for a better HRTF data set?

@dd.Not shure if it is 100% playable, but navigation is easy, and the game has that auto-battle feature, it selects the best posible actions for your characters.@hanif.If you cant defeat the knight, you must level up your sword and health, in the menu that apears when you press start, theres an option that returns you to the castle, before entering the stage, but you retain your levels, items, experience, and fozons.Also, the knight doesnt block your attacks, it sounds different but youre hiting him.im not at my home right now, but when i can put my hands on the game, ill write exact instructions.

HiIts good to have a new guy round.I am one of the designers for reality gaming, I am not sure about state of projects but I know we will be able to help where ever needed.I have a lot of sfx if I could have access to your novel series I may be able to help nmore.We use purebasic as one of the languages and a few other things.we have a 3d engine and a few other things.purebasic does cost though, if you need any help I can try, my finances are not that much either but I am willing to fund bits of stuff, languages, and other stuff as long as its not to expensive.if you are wanting a gamebook the choiceofgames engine is good.also the language at ffproject.com is good but I have no idea how to get that, maybe by contacting the author.The advantage of fighting fantasy language is that it does all the automated dice rolls for you.

Unfortunately, no.This particular plane is almost impossible to distinguish. To be honest, Id give up on vertical aiming now, if thats what youre considering. Its a pain mathematically, and you cant do it without additional radars on top of the HRTF. Anything above +70 degrees starts snapping to the directly above position really hard, the particular circle in question is incredibly difficult, and there are no datasets that go below -45 anyway (at that point, the torso/chair/whatever starts becoming a problem, and any points recorded there would consequently not work well anyway). When it comes down to it, HRTF makes what we already have much more immersive, but doesnt add too many things you can do with gameplay itself.Also be aware that, if your goal is to distribute OpenALSoft, thats going to be...difficult. Not impossible--Ive got a fork on Github that lets you override the users co
 nfig file. But getting it to do what you want on all machines can be quite strange. As I recall, you have to kill everything but Winmm and distribute HRTF datasets for all common sampling rates; the file name for selection has placeholders. it will also fail, in some configurations and sometimes, with the Logitech G930s and anything else faking surround sound already unless you specify an additional option forcing stereo.

I just told you, it already has. Go get the VOICe Vision app for your iPhone or Android. But seriously, you cant do this safely for actual navigation in real world environments, youre getting no more than 2 or 3 updates of whats around you per second, and you will need literally days of continual training to do even basic stuff with it. This has been very seriously tried by the VOICe people. It never took off, with good reason.The camera sees further, but youre getting a resolution of something like 100x100 at most funneled through a sub-par channel for visual data and only after significant practice. That means that you dont end up actually seeing too much further anyway. The cane and actually paying attention to your surroundings is going to give you a lot more data that will actually keep you safe, though such tools may be interesting for aesthetic purposes.This has also been seriously tried by me.

Ah, in that case, press cv-comma. Itll bring up the combo box like a context menu. Quite clever if ya ask me.The strange part with using Chromevox on Chrome OS, is removing apps that isnt an extension. You do it via the Launcher, with alt-shift-l, then hit space or enter on the Apps button. Easy right? Though trying to right click on the icon once youve navigated to it, is hit and miss. On a Chromebook, you right click by holding two fingers down on to the trackpad, then tap once.Somceimtes it bring up the right menu, other times it brings up the menu for the sehlf itself. So Ive been experimenting with that. Of course, aq lot of the apps out there are still just shortcuts to web sites, so Im not missing too many apps themselves. Plenty of default Google apps are already preinstalled too. Note by the way, the Hangouts app, unlike the extention or on Google Plus
 , or even GMail, does not say anything! Im talking about the Hangouts app for Chrome OS/Windows only. Well, officially for Chrome OS/Windows anyway...

Its actually a mod, but the mod itself does not make it better or worse for accessibility. The game is menu friendly using the jaws cursor if youre using IE 8. Works for me, because I use Firefox as my main browser. If youre a big fan of the sport, you should definitely try it. You can set things up in less than 2 hours, though I warned you it does take time and patience.

You dont have to press all three at once. lol All three punches are assigned to the l1 button and all 3 kicks assigned to l2. So you can either do the motion and press the assigned button with one hand, or do what I do and use your right hand to press the button while my left hand performs the dpad motion, but that requires a good amount of hand dexterity. lol

Late to the party as it were, but I have signned up for this fine world!Ill be testing it with Chromevox on my Chromebook to see how well things go.Heres the Support For Blind And VI Users page, as I dont think it was ever shared here. Also, browsing through their Facebook page, I see that they now have popups now being able to read without needing a screen reader. Hmm. Wondering if that Alpha thing works with Chrome now... Will have to try and confirm that.

Im still finding using the subtitles to be very frustrating, because it keeps repeating the same one, sometimes three times and ends up getting behind the dialogue, when its faster paced. Assault Freak, do you know where I might find Japanese transcripts for any anime series? It should be easier to read along that way. I found a site with english transcripts, but their collection is far from complete for most series, unfortunately.

Hi Trenton, unfortunately still no joy with any of the Chrome or Chromium derivatives. Youll find that Chrome speaks some of the necessary output, but stops before the end.And to make things worse, the latest Safari shipping with Yosemite is now broken as well, although in a different way. There, the networking code seems to be severely borked.This will all be worked out over time, as the vendors fix these problems. Meanwhile, were working simultaneously on mobile clients which we hope will be a far better solution. Ill post updates when ready.Thanks so much for your interest!--Mark

As long as the game works with sapi that is fine with mee. I admit, eloquence isnt my favourite voice anyway at any speed which probably contributed to the understanding issues. I have Orphius alan at 270, which people say is fast but isnt as insane as that sort of speed sinse I always find that even if I can understand voices at a higher speed they just take on a somewhat threatening and feverish tone that doesnt contribute to careful consideration or games. I do push the speed a little for muds, though even then its with realspeak daniel (who is my Sapi voice). Btw, deathmatch project alpha worked fine on my desktop, so its got a db page now, I appologise for it taking so long.

ah, I did wonder if that was the case. The problem however is with documentation and tutorials out it does make it a tad difficult to get to grips with the game. For one thing,where is the trick book? also, are tracks supposed to end or (as with free ride and the tutorial), do they go on forever. I know your not working on major content for the ggame at the moment but these are areas where perhaps some clarrification could be helpful, indeed perhaps if you devote some wiki space on your site experienced players of Snowrace could assist with these sorts of documentation issues which would let newbies get a better grip of the game.

Ive been wanting a Kingdom Hearts-style accessible game since... eh, pretty much since I lost the ability to play the inaccessible equivalents.My attempts to create as much have not been going so well. The JF IM Adventure was supposed to fit in that style (though the setting is a bit... well). Most people cant seem to stand it, for understandable reasons.As for slightly more playable fantasy adventure games... there are games like Sara and the Castle of Witchcraft and Wizardry (the demo only gets you the first floor), Paladin of the Sky (again, paid with a demo, but the demo is pretty nice--Id call it a bit longer than, say, the Jampack demo for Threads of Fate or Gauntlet Legends), and if youre willing to put up with setting up and learning to use translation tools, there are several Japanese games that fit your criteria.I tend to prefer t
 he realtime adventure stuff to the turn-based menu-driven stuff, which in effect means Sara, Shadow Line (you might also find it under Shadow Rine), and Bokurano Daibouken. The Bokurano Daibouken trilogy is rather diverse all around and never stays cleanly in one category; the first game uses top-down maps but switches to 2D Fighter style for combat; the second one is effectively a sidescrolling hack-and-slash with RPG elements; the third is a 2D platforming RPG with a completely different mode for flying an aircraft in certain stages (its not quite the Gummy Ship, but yay!).Shadowline and Sara focus more on the fantasy aspect, while Bokurano Daibouken is more soft sci fi (think a mix of Megaman and self-aware Shounen Anime parody).If you havent already, though, Id recommend playing with Palidin of the Sky. Its more Final Fantasy-like, and the setting is more futuristic fantasy. If youre willing to try the Japanese games, you might start wi

Hi, my alternate universe twin!All my attempts at replicating RPG Maker in audio have failed, because I have the conscientiousness of a wet leaf. (Theres no reason someone couldnt just read the manual or a walkthrough for, say, RPG Maker 2000, and write a clone whose focus is on audio, other than some combination of a lack of skill, willingness, opportunity, or action points.)Im actually thinking a better place to ease into scripting might be Swamp Campaigns. Im not sure how good a strategy this is; I started out in the same place, and basically reverse-engineered the simplest _javascript_ gimmicks I could find (this was way before HTML5) and went from there. Swamp Campaign Scripting (SCS for short) is much more limited, and the syntax is more basic-like (BGT is more C-like, so Im not sure how hard it would be to go from one to the other if you arent getting deeper into programming in general). But if Swamps interface is tolera
 ble for at least one game youd like to try making, it might be worth trying with SCS (and possibly some audio/language modding for full effect).SCS cant do anywhere near as much as I want to make (it wasnt meant to!), but I did make FYQuest with it. I was able to implement a crude form of jumping in an unfinished campaign, even, but custom bosses are tedious to make and even more so to fix when they inevitably come out wrong, so none of my other campaigns made it past their first bossfights.You could play around with the Swamp Map Editor, too. (IIRC Tactical Battle comes with an editor as well.)The kind of programming it takes to make Audio Skyrim is much more involved. SCS intentionally avoids loads of concepts and gives you a bare minimum (a minimum that is suspiciously more like Assembly than C, in terms of abili
 ty set. Shsh, dont ruin the analogy by pointing our how much SCS differs from Assembly; itll ruin the learning experience!)You dont get things like loops, arrays, or classes in SCS, but you do get free zombies and weapons (or whatever you want to mod them into), shops, a map format, player characters and allies with stats, and events that you can make do a variety of fun things. Youre not even stuck with the FPS format, if you can get creative enough, although you are pretty restricted when it comes to controls.SCS is available without needing to pay for a Kaldobsky account; the paid account is just for online multiplayer.But if you can handle BGT already, by all means, do so. The potential is considerably greater, but so is the effort.

Nope. Ive never found transcripts of anime.. at least, none that are reliable. If you can, find external srt subtitles to match the anime file names... because it reads those better. I think its something to do with the internal subtitles that a lot of mkv files use. But now that the possibility is there, I wish someone would take this further... pity no blind programmers make video / media players. This would be a great feature to research.

Hi, the tracks do have an end, it verries with each track, and you can have custom ones like in topspeed. The turning system works like topspeed. To do tricks, once you get into the air, youll here a clicking sound. Holding w increases your boards nose. The hire you have it, the more difficult tricks you can do, but the more balance you lose. s will decrease it for landing. A and D in the air turn your character. To pull off the tricks, you can use right and up for rost beaf, up and down for tail grab, left and up for backside 180s, and left and down for frontside 180s. And up and z for stail fish.

The articles going around this month talk about a headset and imply that this is the important innovation. It was possible to use a head-mounted webcam and a notebook PC with the vOICe literally 10 years ago.Its a fun toy, and its been helpful when Ive tried making simple images, but I hardly use it more than once a year, if that. I was trying to use it with 2D games, until I realized I could do exactly as well without in most cases.

Talk to the trainers youve beaten. One should say there are two hidden switches that will open the door, and another will say that when you find the first button, the second will be right next to it. Go to the back of the room, and start pressing enter with every step you take along the wall. Thats how I found the switches. I know it sounds a bit tedious but you have to be thorough.Also, as a side note, if you have money, go stock up on potions. Lt. Surges Raichu is a beast and it will kill you if youre not prepared.

Finally, there we go! Its... far from perfect, but Ive found already you can just pause the video until its done glitching and itll catch up with the section.Any way the tts voice can be changed? As Ive said Ill put up with it if I have to.

Hmm, I listened to a rapture3d demo of HRTF and I was able to distinguish whether the sound was directly above or below.I use openal-mob, a fork of openal-soft that allows specifying of config options at runtime instead of from an annoying ..ini file. Ive successfully distribute my demo app with just the release dll of openal-mob.

Hi. I dont know why tracks seem to be endless. Regarding tricks and instructions, thanks for letting me know, however it does worry me this isnt in the game, either in the game itself or in an instruction file in the games folder, sinse not everyone who wants to download and play the game will be checking this forum.

Ah, thats cool, then I get a choice of supernova as well (dolphin really shouldnt be as grabby with the Api as they have been). After playing the first deathmatch Im interested to see where a full scale online space game goes. I gather that the custom missions in deathmatch project alpha were sort of tests of concept or similar for the multiplayer game.

I personally just found the translation process wy too complicated for the Japanese games, if it was just a case of run a single peace of software fare enough, but to use all those addons, changing your keyboard navigation etc it just all got a bit much, especially for a google translation of japanese text which are not absolutely accurate at the best of times. You can read about the Bockerano debuken and Shadowline games in the database, with a link to a guide on the translation. Alteraeon is an amazing game, especially with the soundpack, just dont be put off other muds if they dont have the same . The only thing I wish Alter had was some random exploration and more task systems, sinse generally ive got to a point where I go on the game, have explored the areas correct for my level and am just killing time, I do remember though seeing some
 thing about a job system introduced which sounds like just the sort of thing Id appreciate,  dont know why, but simply having to run around a forest Ive already fully explored slaying spiders isnt half so interesting to me as having a task to go slaying! .
