Hi!I'm finally playing Swamp fairly regularly again thanks to a good friend of mine who coerced me...well, sort of.I see a lot of things have changed, and since I heard about the /lootpoints command, I tried /help which I assumed would give me a list of all available / commands.At least, it says that, but I only see very few of them. Is that wrong?Another question I have concerns the outdated Read Me file. Are there plans for it to be updated to be consistent with the latest version and the changes in Swamp? Right now, it mentions none of the commands that /help displays that I see, which is why I'm not sure /help is supposed to display all of them. Also, the quest system is still the one from 3.4 in the file, and it mentions nothing about loot points. So, coming back from 3.4 to 3.6B threw me off quite a lot until I looked through the change log.Thanks for any clarification.

I second the motion. I've had FF installed for about 6 months now and use it for some web sites.The only things that keep me from switching to FF entirely and making it my default browser are IE's integration with Windows. With IE I can browse to one of my favorites in the start menu and IE will launch and go to that web site. Because FF stores its bookmarks in a different location and format, when using it I have to first launch it, then go to the bookmarked favorite web site.I've also noticed that some web sites don't seem to work correctly in FF. For example one web site has all of its buttons properly labeled in IE but in FF none of the buttons have a label telling you what it does.There's the behavior of the sidebar. If I call up the history, I get the drop down menu, but if what I need is farther back than the menu shows, I can call up the sidebar. That's fine. What isn't fine is that when I call up the sidebar, it beco
 mes the default way to access the history. I then have to go and untick the history option in the view menu to get back to the history in the drop down menu. I believe I saw a close sidebar button, but it didn't seem to do anything.

With BK, story really doesn't matter as much. If Shadow Rine were to be translated, story plays a huge factor in this game so I'd hope that story would be the first thing translated--it's pretty much the whole game.

Well, I don't really use ff that much, but for some websites it is better than IE. Don't have menny add-ons, but addblock plus is very nice. With some settings that you can change on the main addblock plus page you can even set it so it doesn't show the facebook frames if you don't use it.

No, this isn't a follow Friday for all you twits from the twitterverse; this is bigger, better, badder, hotter, flashier, foxier?I've just made the big jump, the huge switch, the change of the century, decade, the year is still 2015, right? somewhere along the way I remember telling my friends that I wouldn't switch over to Firefox because, well, because I didn't have a reason to do so.  Listen, no, really, listen!  There really wasn't a reason!  Stop laughing at me!  Anyway, well, you see, IE, it's just not cool anymore, and Chrome, well as far as accessibility goes, it's still not doing it for me, so FF it is, which means that I must consult you, humble members of the audiogames net community, on the various things I can do with this thing.  Does it pick my nose for me?  That might be desirable on occasion.  If it doesn't, then what are your favorite capabilities, preferences and or other functional
 ity?  From the simplest of addons to the most complex you enjoy, I want to hear about them and the reasons behind them.  Nothing's too big, too crazy, too stupid, and I'll be coming back regularly to make sure I didn't miss out on anything, so keep em coming!

I agree that interactive fiction games do the best job of conveying a story to the player, though some RPGs do a pretty good job of it too.Due to popular demand, game designers are putting more emphasis on the stories behind the games, , but so far, except for a very few games, the stories have mostly been rather shallow and still do more to set the stage than to provide a story for the game to tell as it is being played. I believe that this is because a lot of peeps think that great graphics make a great game. Unfortunately I find a similar sentiment in the audio games market, but it's been changed to great sound effects make a great game, and again, the story suffers for it.I still enjoy a good shoot 'em up, especially as a stress reliever, but for real game playing for entertainment, I prefer games that have a good story to tell so I gravitate towards interactive fiction, and some RPGs.

hello,following the aperrent success of my tts preschool album (so far), I decided to do something a little different.a few months ago, we lost one of the most respected members of the blind community, bob prahan. back in the late 90s, prahan was an early contributer to the singing dectalk community. One of his crowned juels was his dectalk versions of 2 tom lehrer songs, "I hold your hand in mine" and "irish balad". Since then I was a crazed fan of the satirical composer.In honor of bob prahan, I decided to do a tom lehrer album as a kind of "spin off" of the tts preschool album. before you ask, Yes, both of the afformentioned prahan recordings will be part of it. Feel free to do tts versions of other tom lehrer songs for inclusion on this album!what do you think? remember-fight fearcely, harverd.

Okay, I checked this one out (and joined Mirage's mob I think). I'm not exactly a fan of either big pvp or mafia, but I will say that I'm well impressed on the access fixes, even the home button tells you what page your returning to when clicked.I doubt I will be playing this long term sinse it's not my thing (I prefer exploring and quests to battling other players0, but I will see if i can put together a databse entry and also give a five star rating sinse the developers are doing a great job. This is what the storm8 games should! have been, and for anyone interested in this sort of thing I hope you have fun.

Greetings!We have been thinking of releasing an audio-only version of Prometheus, that is, a version with keypresses such as arrows for directions, SAPI, NVDA, JAWS or WindowEyes as speech, etc. The problem is that we don't have time to create the client program needed for this.We'd love to be able to make it cross-platform, which means that Python would be a perfect programming language. We actually got the idea from RS Games (no worries, we don't plan steeling anything from you, we simply don't think it's wise to have an entirely different audio version when the current one could be expanded upon).Would anybody here be able to give some advice as to how to get started with such a massive project as this? Things like, libraries, ETC? In short, a specialized MUD client with textboxes only for certain things, to mention a few.

If you're talking about the mud I'm not really counting that. Forbidden memories had a story, fusing, and the need to play against people with different stratigies to get different cards. For example, usually if you wanted to get a magic/trap card you'd have to get S tech I think it was called, which meant making the aponent run out of cards before you did.

This is definitely an interesting topic. In fact, this was one of the driving factors that lead Ian and I to start Out of Sight Games. The truth is that video games - the ones that are well done - are one of the most powerful storytelling media on the planet, because it's interactive storytelling. And we both cut our teeth on games that did this extremely well. So we're convinced that audio games can be used as a compelling vehicle for storytelling, just as graphical games can - but just as with graphical games, attention has to be given to how the game is being used as a storytelling medium. You tell a story differently with a game than with text. I don't think it means one is superior to the other - but the nature of something interactive like a video or audio game means that effective storytelling in this medium is different than in text. So maybe it's more difficult to pull off, just because we're used to telling stories in static text, and not in inte
 ractive events. But I'm convinced it can be done, and with very powerful results. I got to listen to my wife play through the Mass Effect series, and if there's ever been proof that games are the perfect medium for interactive storytelling, that's a series that comes to mind.So in short - I think that the effort involved in telling a compelling story using an interactive, real-time audio game is significantly higher than it would be to tell an interactive story using text...but I think the potential payoff may be higher, too, in terms of the immersiveness and emotional impact of the story. But that's just my opinion - other people may relate more powerfully to text-based storytelling, and there's nothing wrong with that.

uBlock is actually a good replacement to adblock plus. They both use the same filters like easy list. uBlock is much better optimised though and uses a lot less RAM. I'll freely admit to not having switched to uBlock in my Firefox, but only because I now mostly use a mac with Safari and for the times I use FF ABP still works.What else do I use? Stuff that has been brought up here before, like down them all which is a really good download manager. Not only because it does batch downloads, but it also has support for segmented downloading which it does automatically that makes a lot of downloads go faster. I also have flash got, which lets you download embedded flash or HTML5 videos from any site, and noise which makes FF play sounds for various actions

I've noticed that you seem to have to hold down the space bar for a second or two even after you seemingly clear the pit. Why this is I don't know but I have definitely noticed it. Hi.well I have better privacy which clears flash stuff.add block + which I have never got anything on.noscript which is quite good for websites scripts and add sites.there is one for google analitics supposed to block those to.webvisum and rumola I have both loaded.So far its been ok and I use firefox full time.bar a few things like opencandy firefox is more secure than ie ever will be and is opensource.as a companion to this I use thunderbird email client to with add block pluss.I have never bothered about ublock or down them all but then I have never needed to download batches of files.At any rate I will be ggetting fibre sooner or later and there may not need to be any need for download managers.I have brought the old but faithfull getright pro last year but find in most cases unless the files directly play in firefox I have no use for it.noscript keeps files from playing on some sites and I can always down
 load them bypassing the need to use getright.

hi Manuel, it is nice that you are creating this game.I have found some bugs, sometimes when I wanna throw a greenade in corresponding direction I can not throw that until enemies will come very near to me, the same thinks happens when I am using knives, it works only when enemies will reach closer distance, but when I am using the default weapon which is until 1 num key it works as it should be working.Also the jumping sound can be better, because this sound doesnt looks like as jumping sound.

Yes. I think the reason text based games tend to present a higher level of creativity, is that most of them are produced by writers, --- it takes a lot less programming and a lot more story writing to make those, at least off line text adventures, I'll not comment on MOO or Mud coding since I have no experience with them.  On the other hand, while some MUDS and MOOS are spin-offs, built from premade code bases and built in commands, story based audio games are usually built from the ground up. BGT is basically the closest thing audio game developers have to a "code base" so to speak, and even then, that only goes so far. There may not be very many story driven audio games that are worth while to play, but the developers of the ones that are, have put time, effort, and commitment into their work, so are probably more likely to produce a well made, worth while game. This is not a bashing on MOO or MUD or Text Adventure developers, but again. There are so m
 any code bases, there is inform 7 where you're just writing a story in imperfect English.  Another reason I find audio games to be more fun than text adventures is this: I find it much more engaging and capturing to walk through a room, hearing the environment and my character's steps, and interacting with objects and characters, than to type "walk" or "get" or "talk to" into a console window, to have the end result read to me on screen.  All of the above was based on experience, be it something I've experienced myself or have heard others recount to me.

No it doesn't, and it's already got accessibility as a feature that matters enough to the developers to show up in the change log for each version, which is pretty cool IMO.I wanted to try Reaper, but I made the mistake of looking at all of the changes past the version that has the scripts and realized just how much I would be missing by using such an old build.I agree with Keyisfull about Audacity's noise reduction being significantly more effective, but for me at least, even with a large amount of processing power, RAM, and an SSD, Audacity does things sluggishly and doesn't have nearly enough features when it comes to manipulating files in the viewer.I admire him for figuring that interface out though, to me it feels very advanced, and it seems like multi track is faster over all, but I'm comfortable with what I have in GW, even if I wish the plugins were of a higher quality, since I don't do any music editing and I don

unfortunately I deleted it. But i could probably code up an offshoot in a few hours/days, the concept is so damn easy, though I'd be smarter, maybe.After this happened, a few days, he blocked me and we aren't friends, for other reasons and the fact that I am publically depressed.I will not develop on my own, because I have high level depression and instability within my mind. If i didn't have that, you would see the title ultraponage or something like that. That's also the reason why you haven't seen much activity from the title UltraSound, my only activity was this and that random toney program that was just made under my name, no trademark needed on a piece of source.I could colaberate with someone, provided they're willing to tollerate me. But most of the smart programmers have ditched bgt, and the ones that still stick around are either jerks, want nothing to do with me, or don't know the thing enough to make anything good. 
 I would learn another language, if I could. I've tried pb but I just can't wrap my head around it after being around this baby cpp for so long.

So recently I acquired a lenovo g5080, which comes preloaded with windows 8.1.The specifications on this machine are more than good enough to run the OS, however, even in its stock state with minimal applications and services running foreground or background, it is sluggish as all hell.It is equipped with 6 gb ram, a 500 gb hard drive, and an Intel I5 duel core processor that I believe runs at 2.5 ghz.I've tried disabling foreground applications I've installed, that have come with this machine, disabling background services and tasks, reducing visual effects, setting performance options to high performance, and ensuring the Ac adapter is securely plugged in.My main issue is windows explorer. It takes at least 2 to 5 seconds to load a file view, even if the view consists of just 1 or 2 text files.Windows 7 quite literally zips through file views faster than I can think to catch my breath, no matter if I have 1 or 10 files in one particula
 r view.Another issue I have is windows 8.1 randomly freezing if I leave it unattended for an extended time, say an hour.Do any of you have any ideas of how to solve mainly my first issue?Feel free to hijack this topic with anything else about windows8 or 8.1 in general

Btw, I'm working in the Spanish translation for this game right now.@Haramir Yes, I think I'll decrease the sound's volume, or allow users to change it by themselves (I'll add a settings menu later). About the story I no have any ideas yet. I thought I could create different levels, for example one level for each country and Add some objects to pick up and use in the game, but I can't think in a storyline for this purpose.

Hello Fabi, Thanks for posting the game in tiflojuegos! I think I will move the zip file to my personal webpage when it becomes more stable. Though the game has autoupdate capabilities, so when new versions are available you just need to press under check for updates to get the newest version. For a while we have an aircraft with a machinegun and a small chat system, but we need fix some bugs before releasing it due to the fact that the bug may crash the entire server, and on some cases the game. that's what i had to try for days to figure too. you have to push randomly in order to get to the second cave. Gamefaqs walkthrough helps a lot with that. on the second floor, you have to push a little randomly and try to move all boulders down the hole or the floor, which is quite hard. vba save slot feature helps a bunch with it, in case you push it wrong and don't wanna reset the floor again

Hi all,Brandon Cole has tried to register to the forum. He told me he filled out the form, only to be told that the software thinks he is a bot and can't register. Huh?Also, Brandon Cole is having trouble updating BK3. Others were having problems with this. The full installer updates him to 6.3, and it won't update to 7.1.What is the latest full installer link?Thanks.

Yeah, OK so I got that fixed, got my tech up to lvl 10. I still can't take out that second light in 1-2 after you go through the door and you jump up. First one is simple. then you go across, you have to jump up onto a wall then fall. Now there is a second one, and it refuses to die, its like its not hittable, I don't know if this is a bug or what but its frogging infuriating! What should I do?

Hi,@mojsior you're very welcome, and about how weapons works has an explanation. It's due to the stereo panning -that is different to the minimun range for weapons. You could attack an enemy with a knife or grenade when he is at 10 steps close to you, but you begin to hear him when he is at 20 steps. As @OmarAlvarado has suggested, I will reduce the stereo panning range in the next update.

Bringing back this thread because I'm having issues with QWS and Virtual Midi Synth again and I've tried everything I know to fix it to no avail.Virtual Midi Synth updated the other day, and I installed it, but had to do so over the top of the original installation because I didn't know how to automatically update with the software. It was only after I'd done this that I noticed playback was stuttering slightly, though not in the same way as before. Occasionally, a note is dropped, and/or the piece would jump forward just enough to be noticeable. I double checked all my settings were in order, and finding they were, I assumed the update had something to do with it. So I reinstalled the old version over the top of the new. The problem persisted. Today, I uninstalled the synth entirely, grateful that unlike Bassmidi, I could do so without shutting off NVDA. Then I reinstalled the updated version. Still no change. I'm becoming very frustrated and disco
 uraged. I don't know what I did to cause this problem but it's not fair!

To make the start menu easier, download the classic shell program from it's websiteI use xplorer2 light eddition, it may be a free version of a payed program but it's definitely enough for me. Duel paine, multiwindow support, with two paines per window, options like showing files in sizes such as 2KB, 2MB or 2GB, I recall that win explorer only displays sizes in kb, lots of customizations, classic menus or ribbon, etc. And best part, it don't freeze or crash! Only time I've seen it lock up was when I was loading a rather large file into a not responding foobar, in which case it was trying to get the file through, so it locked. When it locks, you'll know, because when you enter it's window, NVDA will say paine. Paine. You can get xplorer2 from zabkat.com or if that doesn't work, just google download xplorer2 light. Note that the light version only comes in x86 format, so w
 hen you enter the installer and it says would you like to install a 64bit version or continue, click yes to continue. 32 bit works fine. It won't replace your native explorer as far as I've seen, you probably need the correct bittage for that.

Tried this and it worked, but I can't disable it unless I'm using only Soft Voice, because I'm always, and will be ever turning auto language switching on, since I need it as I use English in conjunction with Arabic, so both should be working at the same time. I could, however, enjoy Soft Voice by disabling the thing. Thanks a lot guys, I really didn't think I have to turn it off, but my question is: Why do I have to do so? Why doesn't it read when auto detect is on? Just wandering,

Thanks Fabi! Appreciate it very much! Bryan, jump only needs to be pressed once unless you're gliding. but always hold the directional all the way until you land. About 1 and a half steps onto the gravel then press the space bar immediately followed by holding the arrow in the direction of the gap and don't stop holding the arrow direction until you land. Once you have those wings it's easier to just glide over the gaps by holding the jump button down and holding the direction down. Before you know it, you're a pro at it. Awesome, I'll be back today. Hi everyone,This is my first audiogame project. I worked in a rebuild from town of peril, created by Guilevi. If you've played that game once, probably you could play it with no problems. If not, I included a readme in both English and spanish for new players (In the doc directory). Take into account that it is not the same game with improvements. It has been written in a different programming language and it's in a beta stage, so probably there are some different things with the Guilevi's town of peril. I honestly like where this is going. Really. I really do.And I know this might contradict the entire reason of the topic. But is there any real reason why audio games lack the similar story content text based games seem to pull off rather well?I'm not speaking of swamp, since swamp doesn't exactly have a story, per say. What we have done is created fan fiction, not exactly a story.I'd love to count shadow line, but the main problem here is not very many of us here on the forums speak fluent Japanese.yes, we have translation services, but the main issue with those is you don't get the true meaning of what is being said. You only get a vague semblance of what is actually being conveyed.Computers themselves are too unintelligent to attempt to decipher the true meaning of what is being sent to them. That is especially true when one adds in the factor of language translation.Back to the topic on hand.I feel as if the blind c
 ommunity has very limited audio game selections with actual well defined story, balanced quality over quantity, well defined game mechanics, they may be a bit short, but to be honest, that's ok with me.Kinda wish some of the developers would take a rest from creating fast paced action games, and try and code an audio game with great storyline, not care so much about sound effects (we've heard a bunch of the same ones reused 1000 times), think about mechanics in relation to the story, and deliver it as it is. Try not to hype it up, if its good enough, players will come naturally to you the developer, without too much work needed from you, if the quality is there.Just an opinion of someone who has played audio games since late 2007 onward.

Omar - my answer to your question would be that it has to do with the amount of effort involved. From someone who's been going through the process of writing his first game, and is now working on laying the pipeline for the second, I can tell you from experience that it takes a lot more work to create a dynamic, responsive game world that tells a story interactively through gameplay, as opposed to simply providing those things in text. I'll admit that the game we're finishing right now doesn't have nearly the depth of story as something heavily cinematic like Mass Effect, and even so, building it so that story plays a significant role, and so that your actions and choices can influence the world around you, requires a lot of time, effort, and creativity. So I think the reason we don't see a lot of that in the audio games genre is just that it takes a lot of time and effort to pull it off - and even more to pull it off well. Like I said, that's part of
  what led to us starting Out of Sight Games, and I hope we can create some projects in the future that really push these boundaries - but there are big challenges for developers making story-driven games, especially if you don't want them to be completely linear.

Bit of an update, currently refactoring the code and interface to make it more managable and help implement new features. Not quite sure how I want to handle Alpha blending data though, so any comments on that are welcome. Thanks to all of you who have thus far, contributed to my simple and seemingly trivial, change.  I actually found a nifty one yesterday called JS Switch, which allows you to add a toggle option to _javascript_ to your tools menu, a nice way to turn it off that doesn't concern itself with you having to go into about:config, type that _javascript_.enabled or disabled nonsense just to get around websites that are screwing around with your screen reader because they want to look, um, well, better?  I like it at any rate; no more reading articles with my screen reader freezing up because of certain content.  Push the button when you need it on, push it again when you need it off.

Thanks Fabi! Appreciate it very much! Brad is right about jumping and gliding, you can get good at it. Jump only needs to be pressed once, unless you're gliding. About 1 and a half steps onto the gravel then press the space bar immediately followed by holding the arrow in the direction all the way until you land. Before you know it, you're a pro at it. Danny, Yes, Dead Space had a good story, but it was pretty much told entirely outside the games. The games were just getting from point A to point B while killing all the enemies that are trying to kill you. There's really not a lot of room for story telling within the game.On the other hand Mass Effect had a story outside the games as well as in them. In Mass Effect you made decisions based on what other game characters told you during conversations, and those conversations depended on how you handled them. The games had to be scripted so the story they contained could be told without being too badly scrambled. But there was enough flexibility that the story could progress in a number of ways while ending up in pretty much the same place at the end of the game.Given a choice I much preferred Mass Effect to Dead Space for a good story, but preferred Dead Space if all I wantred to do was lay waste to all the enemies.

I have one other question, because there are hardly any players on CoffeeMud to ask.In regard to multiclassing, should you level your first class to level 30 and then add another class, or should you train that second class at level 1?The help file on multiclassing wasn't clear to me.
