Re: Audiogames.net will be soon down

They're not really doing either, though. The active mods/admins appear to be handling both aspects. For the record, managing/maintaining includes things like actually updating the site, as well as running the forum. This software being 10 years old means the only thing keeping it actually active right now besides the domain expiring is its host not dropping support for the probably old as hell PHP version this thing needs. Now, if this is a server they own and maintain themselves, then... cool and stuff. Their server, their problem when someone hacks the shit out of it. If they don't own the server, though? Somebody's going to be in for a surprise.

2019-12-23 Thread AudioGames . net Forum — General Game Discussion : Dark via Audiogames-reflector

Re: myTrueSound feedback and some comments related to audiogaming

Okay, just waying in here. Firstly, I confess I am a little sorry music maze is abandoned since two of the people who worked on the game were myself and Mrs. Dark, we spent several hours modifying the script and smoothing typos and grammar before Mrs. Dark recorded all of the lines, I was voicing the menu, she was going to be the in game announcer and was quite looking forward to being a little elf like creature . that being said, the gameplay sounded in some ways similar to audio wizards so I understand the decision. As far as the financial angle goes, myself I'm afraid I don't think the lack of sales is due to either lack of promotion, unfair pricing  or of piracy, it's the old problem we have with audiogames. %0.3 of the population, or roughly one in thirty thousand people are legally blind. of that one in thirty thousand %90 are over the age of sixty five, and thus unlikely to play computer games, aside from the fact that even among those who do, many are on lower incomes anyway as has been said.Unfortunately, the customer base is just not large enough to promote serious financial investment. We've seen it time and time and time again. Those people who develop accessible games therefore, either are producing games which also have a wide audience among sighted people, EG text based games, or develop audiogames alongside working on other software, or they are hobby developers for whom the financial side of development is more to recoop costs and provide a little extra, than a total income. There is of course a growing audience (in this case literally), of sighted people listening to audio dramas, and I believe some groups like earplay and the developers of games for Alexa have tapped into that market, but in terms of actually supporting a developer financially full time, I don't think we're quite there yet. Of course what might happen in 10 years or so as the Atari generation grow older and more of them start to lose their sight, we'll see.So, I would suggest myself, either working on other none audiogame projects to pay the rent in addition to audiogame development, or developing projects with a specific appeal to sighted gamers, and perhaps an in built access component as well, such as goodwolf studios did with the code 7 series. As far as the Steam debate goes, I'd say at the moment Steam is usable, not accessible, that is it's possible to run things on, but not as easily as a sighted person can , and this is only likely to improve accidently since Valve's attitude to accessibility (or lack there of), is pretty terrible, stil Steam also has the distinct benefit that games would be far more available to the sighted public (A blind legend did fairly well on Steam I believe). I'd certainly not be against buying games on Steam myself now I've got the damn thing running, but if the games were available on another platform, I'd probably choose that first to save on the inconvenience. Both Mrs. Dark and I will be available for voice acting, and I would be quite happy to contribute writing wise to any future projects, indeed I'm already working on a sequel to my audio wizards story, since I got rather fond of the characters in that one.Good luck, I'll be looking forward to seeing what happens in the future.

Well, what you do is you have to be fast at that. Knight mode will be hard for you. However, what you have to do is you have to parry, then you gotta press right or left arrow key to attack. Note, that the enemy can block also, so you have to guess, it is random when you hit the enemy. However, when you are done killing the enemy, in survival you can just move around and all that good stuff.

2019-12-23 Thread AudioGames . net Forum — General Game Discussion : Dark via Audiogames-reflector

Re: Bookrage's choiceofgames reviews

Okay at risk of preempting Bookrage's next review, I just finished playing through choice of broadsides, so here are some thoughts. I have played the game before, indeed I think it was the second I played after choice of the dragon, but it was a fair while ago and some bits I remembered better than others. I also got on better this time around which I suspect has influenced my opinion. Firstly, I loved the clarity of stats here. Though I was occasionally waying up choices based on my character's strengths, EG whether cutting the anchor chain of an enemy vessel during a boarding action or climbing the sail would involve more of my characters' high fighting prowess, I was never under doubt as to what any of the stats actually did, which was a good thing. My only miner issue with the stats, is that I got the distinct impression the game was tracking several other things behind the scenes which I didn't know such as  the feelings of other characters like Bryson and Jones, or in the mutiny section tracking the happiness and diciplin of the ship's crew. Unfortunately, this meant that whenever those stats changed the writing had to inform me, often somewhat clunkily of the over all stats. Whilst on the one hand this made  sections feel almost like minigames in themselves, EG the courting, on the other it might have been better to just track how different people felt about me and indicate the writing a bit more subtly. For example, at the end of the game I chose one option and was told it was "a poor decision" but there was no clear indication to me as to why, and the ending still seemed happy enough. The writing in general was reasonably atmospheric for the most part, even if a little too short and cursory in places, though I confess part of my affinity for the story comes from touring Hms Trincomaly, which is a fully restored destroyer from the napoleonic wars and the oldest ship still afloat in Europe, since even where the writing was briefer in describing say the conditions on a gunnery deck, I could imagine them myself having stood on one, - though not whilst the guns actually fired of course .With the story being so brief I didn't particularly get the chance to build up an idea of many of the characters or relationships, indeed to say they mention jane austin, the romance section was basically a stat test and then a note overview.unfortunately, a lot of the choices also had few options, indeed this one is definitely more like a set of challenges as Choice of the dragon was than an actual branching narrative, however I got the idea that my choices with respect to those challenges made a big difference, and that while I couldn't affect the choice of the narrative in a major way, I could at least have an impact and succeed or fail on my own merretts, though one major issue I did have is that there didn't seem to be any achievements, which was a shame since like choice of the dragon, it would've been nice to try and accomplish things another way and get rewarded for it, for example, that is one game where it might've been interesting to play a gay character. Speaking of Gender, I gather that this one is similar to pendragon rising in that you can basically gender swap the game and have women doing the fighting and men staying at home. Whilst I understand the thinking there to provide a gender choice, I will confess to me that always  feels a little jarring in historical terms, or even alt historical terms. I'm quite happy with a future, modern or fantasy setting with awesome women warriors (I played a lady carpenter in Zombie exodus), but to essentially alter history to make it equalitarian when it clearly wasn't seems a bit weird to me, plus it negates the idea of a female character   being awesome despite gender restrictions.Still, fair enough if people want the option, but where I tend to like to alternate gender characters in most games, this is one where I think I'd always play a man. Btw, this time I played a really likable sailor with awesome leadership and combat but who had no idea how to sail a ship called Richard Blunt, again points for anyone who gets the reference . So, all in all a game that was a surprising amount of fun. It had flaws, cursory, writing, occasional lack of choices and a major bummer in having no achievements, but stil worth a run through all the same. I rated it a 7, though I admit had I noticed the lack of achievements I'd probably have rated it a 6.

Well the latest one said something like "misc bug fixes", and then one little blurb about one of said bugs that I can't remember right now and am too lazy to look up.For what it's worth, I'd love to see that Aaron actually took some of this to heart and made a move tutor or something, gave a lot more exposure to certain manamon by vastly improving their movesets. However, patterns don't lie. We've entered the part of the pattern Aaron has established where he goes quiet, doesn't really inform us of any new things added/tweaked/nerfed, and generally just backs off. If this pattern continues, the game will be stagnant in three months' time. I just hope I'm wrong.

Re: Fara, a new browser or downloadable roguelike

Well I'm very pleased to announce to everyone that apparently I've been utterly wrong! Today I checked my inbox and got the following male:Fara's developer wrote:Hey there! This is some great feedback, and I'd be more than happy to make some changes in the next release to increase accessibility. I also really appreciate you sharing the game on the AudioGames forum! One command that might be worth checking out is /voice. Enabling it will cause the game to read the event log out loud. The command isn't listed anywhere because it's VERY rough and needs a lot of work. Even then, maybe someone will find it helpful. Thanks for checking out FARA!- BrianSo, good news all around, and hopefully those fixes will be coming after all, since I think if the interface and access hassles can be ironed out this could be something very special completely unlike anything we've seen before. sadly, I tried the voice command and it doesn't seem to work which is a miner pain, since auto log speaking even in Sapi could speed up gameplay I think.

Fair points of course. Purely a matter of a difference in mindset, for sure. Asian cultures, both Japanese and the Chinese one which I come from, have it a bit extreme where the "ask before touching" rule is concerned. Re: I'm Translating Shadow Rine and Doing a Playthrough at the Same Time

See, considering that this is a net positive thing, and does not in any way harm or deface the original product, that's why I was asking. To my way of thinking, this would not be something I would think to ask for. I'd give a heads-up instead, with the caveat that if the dev wanted to work with me, or make things easier, or had feedback, my door was wide open. Ditto if they had some particularly good reason why I shouldn't proceed. But it would be with an "unless you have an objection" angle. That said, I fully respect the bit about Japanese culture. That is something I would not have known for myself, and I would like to think that I'm culturally sensitive, enough so that, knowing this, I would now make the appropriate gesture instead of perhaps upsetting or insulting the devs. Obviously, this wasn't on my plate in the first place, but I appreciate learning things like this.If I ever make a game though, and someone wants to translate it into a language that isn't English, my general stance would be that you don't have to ask me, but you should try as hard as you can to stick to what's written. Don't change the dialogue from the original, and try very hard to do a good translation. If you want me to package your translation with my product, then we have to collaborate somehow and I'd have to make sure that your translation is professional and up to quality standards. Beyond that though, you'd get a huge thank-you from me even if you didn't ask first. You're bringing my product to a wider audience, doing work I cannot do, and that's huge.

Wild Vibration is actually not a wonderful move, as it locks you in and will then confuse both target and user. Would've liked to see Bamboustica get Amplify Voice at an early level instead of just Sound Wave or whatever. Also Sonic Force, which I'm pretty sure is special. This is the kind of thing I mean. Re: Suggestions for Switching from iOS to Android (Pixel 4)

Honestly, my only concern with using Commentary at this point is when it comes back to relaying accessibility needs to developers. Like it or not, Talkback is probably the first thing people see when looking up google accessibility. Its incorporated into most if not all phones at this point, commentary while pretty awesome, is not. It's distribution method is through a fairly high traffic telegram group because of Chinese government restrictions. I spent a few months in there actively participating. The lack of professionalism was pretty astounding. The admins made an off topic group (fair enough,) but I've seen more than a little off topic chat going on in the commentary group. My point is, commentary has a ton of potential and is definitely a breath of fresh air. For it to be taken seriously (and for me to comfortably promote it,) there's a lot of change that needs to happened. I'm really not at all sure why those features were removed in Talkback though. I didn't use a lot of them personally, though I'm sure people did. What's wrong with having a shortcut to dim screen? At the very least, why not make it optional so that if the user would rather use that shortcut for something else, they can. While I can definitely see the pros and cons of having 1 universal screen reader, is fragmentation a whole lot better? I don't think either is wrong; when do we get to a point of too much choice though?

Just a little comment from me, but I really hate when people ask how to do non language specific things in a given language. Like what you're asking, there are loads of different ways you could impliment maps. BGT is a scripting language just like any other. There aren't set rules on how you have to code things.

Re: how do you make the platform update the x coordinate of a map in bgt?

This is just an idea. You would want to do something sort of like this.timer expandtimer; //We want to have a timer so that we can time for every 10 seconds.int expandtime=1; //How long we want to wait until it expands.//Now, for an example, let's code a quite simple expand_map function.void expand_map(int number=random(5,15)); //We want it to expand anywere from 1 to 15 tiles.{if(expandtimer.elapsed>=expandtime) //Hope this makes sence, because I do not feel the need to comment all of the lines. We should now go into this if statement.{max=max+number;expandtimer.restart();} //End if} //End voidYou will also want to, when the tile spawns, make it just spawn with max in place of the X value.I hope this helps.

how do you make the platform update the x coordinate of a map in bgt?

Hi all. So, I am probably the only one in the world still using bgt, but I am still using it. But I am making a runner game, and the board is expanding every 10 seconds. I told the map to spawn a platform at the maximum x, but it only spawns at the default x, it doesn't know that the x has changed. What did I do wrong. Here is the code. I am using code from the zombie arena map engine. I don't know if it's the map code of the main script code. Please help.void draw_map(string name){if(name=="main"){maxx=200;p.play_stationary("amb1.ogg",true);spawn_platform(0,maxx,0,0,"concrete",false);}mapname=name;//save();}

all of those attacks are phisical, bamboustica is a special attacker. Na, it is good just as it is. It is the only manamon that can learn Wild vibration I think, without taking into consideration Echoplasm and Banshreek. If you want a plant draining moves user you have guerrerol, it does it so good.

Re: AI Dungeon comes to ios and android

Something very funny happened to meI wanted to play a humanoid robot, although the game doesn't quite do that. Either way, I sill soldiered on. I was in a factory with no power, and I found a door. I wanted to try to electrocute the door, but that didn't quite work. So I just said use lightning. The whole room got fried. So, I did what a robotic creature might do, and typed beep. It proceeded to shoot lightning at a beeper, which might wake everyone up to it's presence. So, I typed beep, again, and amusingly enough, it shocked it, but it also knew I'd already tried that, saying that I flicked my hand and charged the beeper with lightning again. This time, the thing came off the wall!I tried it again later when I found a man who was just ignoring me. This time, I beeped at the man, and then he approached me and there was a beeping device in my pocket. So I just typed beep, and did that a few times, and it just got funnier. The device beeped again, then I took the device out of my pocket, and then the guy started talking to me. I tried asking him about Santa, he didn't know how to answer that, so I laughed, and there was a machine. I jumped onto the machine which flew out the factory and sent me freefalling. I landed, then found myself in a room with doors. I ended up in a room with two screens, one showing a feed of me, so I punched it. This then caused the screen to show different buildings in a city, and punching it seemed to be the way to control it. However, I think my character had enough by this point, so I typed die, and my body then convulsed violently, and that was that. It's honestly one of the silliest and funniest things I've ever experienced on a computer.

I just think its types could be a bit better represented here. Wild vibration is good, especially if someone was smart enough to equip the vapor garment, but where are our draining moves? Where are nature smash and nature dance? Those would have been good on this thing. It's not bad. I just think it could have gotten a few more moves. Also, decible tackle or decibel rush would have been good, or sing, or something like that. The key here is options. I don't dislike it. Actually, it's kind of cool apart from the somewhat blah moves

A combination of both. Letting people know that it's going to happen, and asking permission to use what, essentially, is part of the game's data and modifying it, which is talked about in the manual. And culturally, it's also simple politness to ask for permission before doing anything with someone else's work, because at a later time, I'm guessing we're going to want it to be packaged with the game or in other words, officially recognized. IT's good manners to ask, especially in Japanese culture. A simple heads up telling someone we are going to do something isn't right to me, but that may also be my cultural upbringing as well. Either way, Dan_jiro, there should be a response email saying yes. If not, take this as an indirect relay of an affirmative.

Re: AI Dungeon comes to ios and android

I'm afraid I haven't had that yet, but had to tell you of an almost coherent detective adventure I had.I first caught a fugitive in a forest, then his body went missing from the morgue. Upon checking on that, I found a mutilated woman's body with mind control drugs in a bag though they weren't in her system. I found the laboratory and took the tools and stuff out of it, and after that, the mind control drug thing solved itself, even though I never encountered a dealer or manufacturer. After that I hired a partner and we went around Chicago locking up drug dealers. Turns out they all were going to this presumably illegal super-prison called "the Pit," at which point I and the FBI had to blow it up, which meant a lot of the prisoners escaped. I'm still not sure why I was supposed to do that or the significance that one of the guards was an alien, but that was how it worked. However, my partner and I started to see things differently so we went our separate ways. However, the drug problems in Chicago were getting out of control. I tried to work in disguise, but I found I kept getting discovered, (and beaten to death.) by gang members, so I changed my approach.I turned to the media for a contact and found Mary at the Chicago Tribune, who specialized in drug crime stories and we ran a few busts together, with her often acting as my face and infiltrator on the sting operations I ran, I ran about three before moving on.Mary and I got married, and then Chicago was almost leveled in a series of bombings. Turns out that this was the result of a new drug cartel moving into town and attacking the old ones, but the group was a domestic terrorist organization called "The Black Snakes." I tried to infiltrate them but was suddenly poisoned. I tried to take an anti-toxin but it didn't work and I died.I thought about getting back to life via help from the CIA or FBI I was working with but then decided to move on to a new game. In this one, I'm a scholar in St. Petersburg Russia and I'm trying to get a good job to support my wife and daughter, but when I started this, it seems like I woke up in aworld where all the adults have vanished. This one's a custom world, and promises to be pretty cool. And still hoping this one turns out to be awesome and this little app goes on to be something amazing.also, a bit of a warning, in some cases, look for an alternative word to "take" when dealing with items. When I was in the drug lab, I said "Take samples of the pills for evidence." I meant take as in "Procure," but the game thought I meant "swallow," which caused some issues.

Hi thanks. good to know. I was wondering because applevis.com does that so I wondered if audiogames.net did something similar.

Re: NVdA not reading flash anymore

@4, this isn't about Google dictating anything. This is about browser security. Flash has been a major security risk for years, and I would highly recommend that you avoid sites that use it on principal. Flash has been dead for ages (the only sites that I know of that actually use it are this one and Cengage), and that's for a good reason -- its trivially exploitable.

Re: Suggestions for Switching from iOS to Android (Pixel 4)

I've still got a Pixel 3A, that phone is actually decent. Generally phone technology just keeps getting worse; people are more interested in providing people with higher-resolution cameras and all that jaz instead of improving the device overall. There are a few open-source phones out there, like the Pinebook, but whether that will go anywhere or not is up in the air at the moment. Its definitely not a competitor to any of the major phones out there though.

Re: Suggestions for Switching from iOS to Android (Pixel 4)

Let's face it, the golden age of first party mobile screen readers is basically over at this point. The talkback developers have stopped listening to their users and are more interested in shutting down discussion of  third party screen readers on their mailing list. I expect nothing from this point, save for half arsed attempts at fixing bugs and the removal of features. On the apple side of things, from mac to iOS, you get what you're given and if you don't like it too bad. I'll always say that allowing apple to become the only screen reader provider across their entire platform was a bad move, but everyone else were too busy praising them. I know two people with iPhones and the updates are currently creating merry hell on their devices. Each new update will fix some of the problems they're having, only to hideously break something else.I feel like apple have been doing this on repeat since about iOS 7 onward and it's just terrible. As for what android device to go for? honestly I'd say fuck the pixel. People will say get the pixel for seemless talkback functionality hurr durr. But I say get yourself a OnePlus device and just learn how to use Commentary. It's the most configurable of the two right now, has a really neat way of selecting text, a fantastic alternate scrolling method that comes in handy if you want to do something like read youtube comments without having to scroll passed all the other crap between comments as well as bags of other features that I'm not naming purely to keep this as short as possible.Note: you can still use this screen reader on the pixel 4 if you're set on it, but but google really didn't do a good job with the pixel this time and as a result most of 2019's flagships will be both cheaper than it and better than it.Unless you're super into all these newfangled AI tricks, the face unlock and not having a fingerprint scanner that you can use for extra gestures.I'd recommend shopping around myself, it doesn't have to be just OnePlus.

I am enjoying this immensely and have contributed to the Patreon.I started out as a spy trying to catch Russian spies but somehow it has turned in to a zombie apocalypse before my eyes. My character is alone in a house with no food or water, so this might be the end for Erina.

Re: cortana or siri, apple or android?

Cortana I've never actually got to work properly even when I configured my mike, which seems to unconfigure itself at random for no reason. Siri is handy for quick phone functions. Google assistant I've not tried, but I can say Alexa is useful for my echo dot, although I don't know if I'd want to use a serious computer device that way. Alexa is great for small things like playing trivia games, setting alarms, and making a calendar, but I wouldn't want to use it for file navigation or reading emails. As to Ios or android, well back in 2012 I bought an Iphone primarily because of the in built screen reader and the large amount of games and useful aps on it. Though there  things I do not like about Ios, EG Itunes and Apple music, there are many things I like. I would be vaguely curious in playing with an android device at some point for comparison, but in terms of availability with games and useful aps like blind square, be my eyes and zombies run, I'd still go for Ios as a main system.
