Re: Slay the Spire and text the Spire help please

The button you want to press is the one to toggle all mods on/off, it's not called select all. If you want to verify that everything works correctly, assuming you're using NVDA when you navigate to one of the unlabeled list items use object navigation to go into the item (NVDA+Numpad 2 on desktop, NVDA+Shift+Down on laptop) and then go to the right and you should see a checkbox for that mod. If it's checked then the mod is enabled in the game.

Re: you don't know jack, which ones to get?

I would recommend grabbing the whole bundle if you liked YDKJ in either Jackbox 1 or 5. Some of the question types, like the attacks in every volume as well as a handful in others like freeways in Volume 3 and IIRC The ride also had some kind of visual question, those aren't doable. But 95% of the games are textual questions read out by the host, and much like the newer games they are brimming with personality with every wrong answer getting a unique comment from the host, musical jingles for question numbers, amusing backstage commentary while you do things like entering in your names and of course, the commertials. Every volume has a ton of them and they're hilarious. Something else I just thought of that might be worth trying is using something like lion for the attacks which might very well work to make those accessible as well. But yeah, if you liked the jackbox games I'd definitely pick these up.

Further elaborating, while I don't have a Dualshock I can give you some general info about audio games that have rumble. For older games like Top Speed, it only does rumble through DirectInput, which is an older standard so I'm not sure if you can get rumble there. IIRC, DS4Windows makes it work as an xInput controller which is a newer and far better standard that newer games use. Sadly there aren't that many audio games that rumble, but the few I can think of which should work include AudioStrike, Breed memorial, Dreamy Train, Planet Saga, Shadow Rine and undead assault. And of course there are a lot of mainstream games that should just work, IE GTA or any of the mortal kombats have pretty good rumble.

I'm extremely tempted to get one of these. I really love the potential of the new controller, especially after I did some research on how easy it is to also make use of the haptics on windows, I'm seeing some potential then for audio games here. However, I have a question that hasn't been addressed yet as far as I know.  Does the screen reader work with the included multimedia apps? I'm especially thinking Netflix and YouTube here, I'm planning to hook it up to a dumb tv so being able to access Netflix this way would be very handy.

This is some really exciting stuff! One thing I'm slightly concerned about though is what about countries where tts  doesn't support the language like Poland. Will I be able to buy a ps5 here, change the language to English and have the screen reader work, or will it be limited on the hardware sku level like the ps4 was. That would be a deciding factor for me.

I've had a lot of success with SongPop 2 as well. When signing up for the first time you may need to go in and out of screen recognition to enter text on the keyboard and set your age, but after that it works pretty well. I've had it occasionally where some buttons needed manual activation with VO off, but they're the really large play/continue buttons at the bottom of the screen which most of the time work without it. During the actual gameplay everything works great.

Hey,Glad you're enjoying them! Regarding the highlights, you just select the files or a folder. As soon as you select it it gets uploaded to the folder, and you can see the progress at the bottom of the page, from where we will move it to the page. I saw that someone had sent us 2 new highlights, those went up on the page yesterday. If this was you, thanks! Finally, format wise, we now convert all of the files to MP3 because it's the most compatible with both computers and phones. If you send us highlights in other formats we'll just convert them, but obviously converting from one lossy format to another loses some quality so sending us MP3's will sound the best.

If anyone is looking in the future though, you want TextTheSpire, along with all of the dependencies it needs, as well as optionally ReadTheSpire which is the thing that I wrote. That's designed to work along side TextTheSpire to give you automatic speech and a bunch of review hot keys to review information without having to switch around windows.

Keep in mind that you are upgrading single cards. With the basic strikes and defends, you usually get 5 copies of each at the start. So if you then go and upgrade one of them, it only upgrades that 1, while the other 4 are still unupgraded.

I never did it because I only had wired controllers, but last week I bought the modern Xbox one controller with bluetooth which from what I read should work with my iPhone. So I'd be willing to give it a try.Off the top of my head, I'm not aware of any accessible games with controller support at least on iOS. Games like a blind legend, which is both on desktop and mobile do have full controller support on desktop so maybe it would also work on a phone but I don't know that for sure. So this might very well be the first accessible game which can take advantage of this.

Re: a question about smugglers

I wouldn't be surprised if this is a DPI related issue, as most mouse simulation clicking on the wrong thing problems are. The NBDA devs claimed to have improved this but I still see the problem propping up occasionally, maybe not as often now but it's still there. The only way to be sure would be if you have the option to read what's under the mouse turned on, then listen to what NVDA says after you rout. But this doesn't work in every application so if you hear nothing that doesn't mean it's broken. If you wanted to be 100% sure, you'd need to ask a sighted person to come up, see where the treasure icon is, then watch you trying to rout the mouse and click on it and tell you if it put the mouse in the right spot or not.

Re: Question to the members, the db and alexa games.

I like your proposed criteria. There's way too many quote unquote games for voice assistants these days, but most of them don't last more than 5, 10 minutes but you do occasionally find some really deep, replayable games in there somewhere so having those be highlighted for people to find in the database is an excellent idea. For those asking about a "voice assistant" genre, I don't think that's a good idea since many of these games fall into different categories. Both Alexa and the Google assistant have a bunch of games that could be very firmly classed as RPG's, trivia games, choose your own adventure type game book experiences or incremental games. Best aproach for this I think is just making either Alexa or Google assistant be the platform for those. Even if someone doesn't have a smart speaker in their home, you can still easily play those games for free with either the Windows, iOS or Android Alexa apps or the google assistant app on iOS or Android where all you need is an Amazon/Google account to set them up

Until the Workshop problem is fixed, Wensber is also providing all releases of the mod in the GitHub repo on the releases tab, including the latest one from a few hours ago so you can just get that and copy it into the mods folder like we had to before it was in the workshop. I'm not sure what takes presidence - mods downloaded from the workshop or mods from the folder, so when TextTheSpire returns to the workshop you'll probably want to delete it out of your mods folder to be sure you have the latest version. Also on the topic of github, if you have an account you can "watch" the repository which will let you receive notifications whenever new versions come out. The same is true for ReadTheSpire or any other project for that matter

@Connor See if you have a file called MTSDir.txt. If you do, delete it and run RTS again. This will hopefully make it work, or at the least give you the error again so that I can look into it. If you do indeed get the error, once again delete MTSDir.txt, run RTS again but this time instead of selecting the folder press cancel and say yes to the prompt. You'll then have to run MTS launcher and the game manually, but it should at least make RTS work.

It should also now work correctly with the Gog version, so if you have that, try to delete MTSDir.txt, run rts.exe, point it at your game folder and hopefully it should work just as well as it does for Steam.Edit: One really nice side effect of the changes I made to improve performance is that the mod will continue working even if you type hide all to, well, hide the windows. It should still be able to monitor them even though they're hidden due to how TextTheSpire works.

Re: slay the spire now accessible! - need your help

I just released RTS 3.1 which should hopefully improve performance. I'd still like to get it even lower, but at least for the person that helped me test it reduced their CPU usage from 20% down to 5. It should also now work correctly with the Gog version, so if you have that, try to delete MTSDir.txt, run rts.exe, point it at your game folder and hopefully it should work just as well as it does for Steam.

Re: slay the spire now accessible! - need your help

@Key that's actually exactly what I'm doing, it's sleeping for 10 MS so even more than what you suggested. I could of course try making it sleep even longer, though at some point it'll start impacting performance. I could try dropping it down to 20 or 30 for the next version and we can see if it'll improve the performance.@firefly82 I got told by someone that the file you run for the Gog version was called "Moddespire.jar" instead of mts-launcher. Guessing by the fact you're getting that steam error from MTC launcher I'm beginning to suspect the file might be called something different. If you can tell me what you run on the gog version to get the mods to work I can fix it. For the moment as well, what you can do is delete MTCDir.txt, run ReadTheSpire and when it asks you where the game is located press escape. This will disable the automatic launching of MTC launcher, but leave the rest of the app working so once you get the game started yourself you can take advantage of all the other features.

How you can use the map is either type map to get it into your output or switch to the map window, then go to the bottom with CTRL+End and start reading up. The map will only display the places reachable from where you are, so as you start climbing up it will show you less and less. So, as you look, if you see something you want to get to, like a rest point or a shop, take note of its floor and X coordinate, and in the prompt type in map, followed by the floor number and X of the place you want. This will start it tracking and from now on if you look at your choices, next to all the paths it'll tell you whether that path will keep you on-track or diverge from your destination

It's not perfect, and we also contacted the dev to see if the mod could have a more refined autoreading built-in, but this will for the most part let you just stay in the prompt window and hear the most important information without having to hunt for it.

Re: slay the spire now accessible! - need your help

I bought STS on GOG, but after researching the modding situation I'm now in the process of getting a refund to get it on Steam. The problem is, immediately after the game got Steam workshop integration most modders pounced on it because it's so much easier on users. both Mod the spire and Basemod have all of the code up on github, but the last precompiled releases for both distributed this way are from 2018. All the future releases in binary form are distributed exclusively via Steam Workshop. So to answer your question, if you wanted to get the game working in the GOG release, which can be done, is keep a watch on the github for both BaseMod and ModTheSpire, clone the code, set up a JAVA development environment, and manually compile new releases to keep them working with latest versions of the game.

I keep forgetting to update this thing... Go figure.Since the last time I posted here, we've done some work on the site, which is now powered by a new website generator system. What this means for you is that the site is now much faster and smaller and includes a much more powerful and accessible audio player for both all archives and the highlights. Speaking of which, they have all been converted to MP3, so if you're browsing the site in Safari on a Mac or iPhone you should be able to play them from the page now.The community has also been getting more active. We now have a Discord which you can join here, which lately has been a host to a bunch of interesting discussions outside of as well as during Streams. We also did a couple of fun streams over the past few months, including a massive 2-part sable stream that was over 6 hours in total, and coming up later today is space wave race, so be sure to tune in!

Part of the reason why this hasn't happened is exactly due to the unstable hosting situation with these games, with the dreamland topic being a good example consisting 25% of people asking for a current link, followed by someone else posting it up to some random file sharing site where the link expires a short time later and the cycle repeats.

Re: BariBari Racing worth the price?

I got really, really close to getting this game and who knows, I might still come back to it. It's a blast if you can grasp what's going on in all the chaos. Then again from what I heard Mario kart is just as chaotic so...What made me think twice was that I had some problems getting the multiplayer to work. It felt as though all of the traffic was routed from a server in Japan, so even though I started a game with another person in Europe, races would either not start at all or if they started would have seconds of delay. Also, while I was visiting Talon in Germany, we tried the local multiplayer option and our 2 computers couldn't see each other even though they were both on the same network. Then again this was over 4 years ago, so maybe this situation has improved since. If anyone has tried the multiplayer recently and got it to work, I'd love to know. I might very well pick this game up then.

The problem is that the narration doesn't speak there, but you can navigate through the tabs if you could. So to change the theme back without editing the configuration, when Retroarch starts and you're in the main menu, press backspace, go down once and press enter. This should put you in the settings and you can navigate to drivers and change the menu from there

Re: Installing mods to steam games

Generally mods should work with Steam versions of games. But sometimes, when a developer re-releases an older game on Steam they make small changes to it that can break certain mods. GTA san Andreas is one example, there's a couple of cool soundpacks you can get for it but they only work with the retail copy of the game and not the digital re-releases.Try to Google around to see if there were any big changes in the KOTR steam release and whether there are any known issues with mods not working on it.

Official download links for Dreamland and Return Of The King

Official download links for Dreamland and Return Of The King

We keep getting asked about adding Chinese games to the database, and I'm more than happy to oblige. I'm thinking of starting with the 2 mentioned in the subject, because they require the least setup and also because I played them and can write a decent description. However, downloading them is a mess. The way it seems to work at the moment at least for Dreamland is that in the thread, which is a few thousand posts long, every so often someone just asks for a link, then someone else posts it up on some cyberlocker where the file exists for a few weeks before the link expires and the process repeats a while later. I don't mind linking to the forum thread as a resource to find help, but I don't want this to be the only and recommended way of downloading the game listed on the database. A lot of people may only look at the database without looking at the forum, so telling them that they can find the download link by reading the thread from the end backwards and hoping someone posted one sounds like a really terrible experience. So, if someone could post the official download links for ROTK and DreamLand (including the Android and iOS versions) I'd appreciate it. On that note I have a vague memory the official links are hosted on baidu or some other Chinese cloud. Can people outside of China download files from those without an account? If not, it may be a good idea to open a dialog with the developers to have a more internationally friendly download location, even just hosting the files on their website. I have a feeling it would go a long way to attract even more players to their games.

Re: creating mods for technoshock

All of the technoshock audio is just ogg, but with a different extension. So, all you need to do is make your modded sounds in the ogg format and then change their extension from .ogg to .z.Also, most of the sounds in the game, specifically the ones that will be positioned around in the environment, need to be mono, otherwise the game will crash. So that includes stuff like the ambiences, robots, weapons, player sounds, etc. The menus and cutscenes can be stereo but I'd make everything else mono to be safe.

Re: Screen Reader Support in Audio Games

Most of the time, I prefer screen reader output, for reasons that were already described of mainly voice customization and responsiveness. But also, regarding the translations, while it's great that you have a good localisation framework in place, you can't guarantee that you'll be able to support every language that your players might speak. Even if these ad-ons add on delay and require an internet connection they can be the difference for someone from being able to play the game, even if the translation will be far from perfect, versus not being able to play it at all. Finally, another option that in my opinion could be worth exploring that noone seems to have brought up yet is having multiple speech channels. I can think of only 2 games that do this but it makes them much more enjoyable. In A hero's call, you can set the game to use a screen reader, but some messages that require precise timing, like damage output in battles, is always spoken with SAPI. This is great because for menuing, reading quests and navigation messages I can use my prefered speech settings, while having the flow of battles not interrupted by having to additionally press enter to advance the text. AHC also makes great use of SAPI by positioning the voices relative to where the characters are on-screen which makes the battles even easier to follow.Another game which does this is a chinese MMO RPG called Dreamland. Again, you have 2 speech channels you can configure, one used for general messages and user interface navigation, the other used for reading damage output, system messages like experience gains and loot pickups as well as chat from other players. This is great for pretty much the same reason, I can do all the menuing, select targets and skills with my prefered voice while SAPI keeps me updated on how a battle is going. This is particularly great here because in a game where you have 1 speech channel and use a screen reader, it's way too easy to interrupt an important system message or chat by pressing other keys to navigate the interface. Having a seperate voice handling those not only makes this impossible, but also means they're much easier to hear.

Re: Game Purchase Request Topic

Out of curiosity, though if such things exist it might be worth putting links to them in the resources section in the first post, are there services that could help people purchase these games in countries where paypal is not available because local payment systems are prefered? AFAIK sites like this exist for people wanting to buy stuff from Japan or China for instance or for stores that will only accept a shipping address in the local country. Obviously this won't help everyone, but for cases where the issue is lack of supported payment methods, rather than being under age or parents being unwilling/unable to afford buying a game such services might do the trick.

Re: How many play old mortal Kombat?

I have experimented with them a few years ago, in Mame and then in the Mortal Kombat arcade Kollection or however you're supposed to spell it.In MK1, I was able to consistently get to Goro, but I don't think I was ever able to beat him... Though on second thought I think I might have once or twice only to have Shang Tsung just transform into him during his fight. MK 2 was even worse, maybe it's because the AI is set to a harder setting by default or something, but I could never progress past the first or second fight. I had more success with MK 3 and Trilogy, I don't remember if I ever beat them with any characters but I was definitely able to make good progress. On the topic of MK 3, there was a "Windows 95" release of Mortal Kombat 3 which is worth tracking down. I don't know how well it would work on Windows 10, it ran great on Vista. In any case what makes this version great if you're blind is that not only the sound is pretty much arcade perfect, but it's also in stereo, so it's easier to keep track of where the characters are while you play.

realitsicaly  we can’t, and shouldn’t, expect changes in commentary that would require making new recordings. eA has spent a lot in getting actual tv commentators to come in and record thousands of lines, for every country where soccer is popular. so don’t expect to get these people to come back and record a few hundred lines more for radio style. i think the best EA can do is make the pass commentary more frequent and make up the rest with audio queues or even tts announcements.

Re: FIFA Field Cues Discussion

What everyone else said.Football commentary on TV is extremely minimalistic compared to other sports. I don't really know why this is the case, but the commentators are there more as experts. I guess they just assume because it's television you can see the screen, so often they'll just say who has the ball every so often. This is why here at least, some channels actually offer an alternative audio described track of football matches. Compare this to football commentary on radio, which is much more detailed for obvious reasons. If a player is moving to a different position, the announcers will tell you this, ditto if he is being chased by another player and is either caught or manages to pass the ball anyway.

Re: Lost in the Steam

2019-08-20 Thread AudioGames . net ForumGeneral Game Discussion : pitermach via Audiogames-reflector

Re: Lost in the Steam

Glad you got things to work!Yeah, Steam is not what I would call a joy to use, you can thankfully manage to get it going enough that you can install games. If there's anything good I can say about it is that very slowly things are improving though this is more by sheer accident than anything else I think. More parts of the app are updated to use the new web UI, and apparently this will also eventually happen to the library as well. The Steam UI, even with no-dwrite is very temperamental. On the 2 computers I tried while making the guide, it always launched to the store after installation, but it looks like this isn't always the case.I'll probably add this to the guide, hopefully it'll help. There are 2 ways of getting to the store, or the friends section if you closed it. The first is that Steam has a menu bar at the top of the window. If you switch to screen review and keep going up, you'll eventually see it, it'll have a menu for Steam, view, friends, games and help. Below that is your name, and you might also see a number here if you have pending friend requests. Further below that will be another menu bar, with store, library, community and your name on it. You can root your mouse to one of these to navigate, but because this is a menu as soon as you root the mouse there it'll automatically expand and change the screen on you with more options which is confusing. So, the fastest way to get to the store or any major section of the app is via the system tray icon. Close the steam window if it's open, Find the system tray icon, do a right click by either pressing applications or Shift+F10, and then use screen review to select and click on an option. You'll see a few of the games you played recently, plus a few shortcuts to quickly find your friends, store, library and to exit steam.Lastly, DLC soundtracks. Like someone already said they're downloaded to the game's directory under the SteamApps folder, which will generally be something likeD:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\SEQUENCESTORM\soundtrackThis is where it's on my computer, and if you installed Steam to the default folder it's where you should be able to find it as well. They're just MP3 files, so should play fine in any media player. HTH!

@19: Not sure about the right clicking, it should open a menu that you should be able to read with flat review. Try to press the applications key or Shift+F10 on the Steam button in your system tray, or if that's what you were trying root the mouse and simulate a right click with your screen reader. For uninstalling games, I actually mentioned this in the guide. You uninstall them just like any other program on your computer, just go to programs and features, find the game you want to uninstall and press enter on it.

Re: Questions to the guide: How to use Steam with a screen reader in 2019

By the time I got back from work you had just about everything figured out, so congratulations The installer isn't inaccessible, it's just not very obvious what it's doing. By default, Steam has the box to create a desktop icon checked, and pressing enter just clicks the next button, which is why in the guide I just say to press enter. Once you either click next or press enter, the window will change very slightly, and say that disk space is being allocated. NVDA doesn't always pick up on this and this process can take a few seconds, which is why you probably thought nothing was happening. The window will eventually change again saying that Steam has started downloading, and this is when the row of buttons in the bottom will change to have a finish button. What I don't know is whether now that you unchecked the box to create a desktop icon Steam will remember this preference for future installs. If it does you may have to click on the option again to check it.

Re: Why are some games flag as a harmful file?

2019-06-02 Thread AudioGames . net ForumGeneral Game Discussion : pitermach via Audiogames-reflector

Re: Why are some games flag as a harmful file?

Anti virus software looks for different signs that a file might contain a virus. It tries to perform heuristic analysis on how a file might behave, what things it might access and so on. They also use a database of signatures, which are basically patterns of data that is known to come from a virus. And sometimes to air on the side of caution such a signature may not be very specific or the anti-virus software might be configured to flag something even if the presence of potentially viral data isn't very high. Such signatures can for example include patterns that indicate a programming language commonly used to make a virus like AutoIt or Pure Basic was used, or the application was compressed with an Exe packer - it's a program that can be used on a compiled exe to make it smaller, but virus creators often use these to make decompilation and reverse engineering more difficult and this is the case with BGT programs. Such a pattern might also indicate a large, obfiscated block of compiled code that is jumped to by a small subroutine right when the program launches - which is also something BGT does because it has to run the compiled angelscript somehow. So the gist of it is that because virus coders are moving so quickly, AV companies try to take into consideration the most common tactics to catch as many things as possible. They think that it's better to have more false positives, but also make it more likely that the software will catch something that hasn't been officially identified yet. And considering a lot of customers  of these companies are businesses running locked down networks that are susceptible to attack from a random person bringing an infected flash drive at home or clicking on the wrong Email attachment, they feel it's the far safer option because they're less likely to lose a customer if the software misses an actual virus.

Re: Is a Heros Call worth it?

If the concept of an RPG with turn based combat and really emersive audio, plus full voice acting sounds appealing to you, then it's absolutely worth it. The game sounds really good and is extremely polished, especially considering the price, and the way the interface works with consistent use of hotkey to obtain information about enemies and items means equipment management can be done really quickly and easily. That being said, if you much more prefer realtime action, things like first person shooters and side scrollers, and find battles in games like Crazy Party and Manamon boring you might not like AHC that much, because the majority of the game is spent in turn based battles.

2019-04-14 Thread AudioGames . net ForumGeneral Game Discussion : pitermach via Audiogames-reflector

Re: Thoughts on text to speech verbosity?

I think this really depends on the game. Just saying the highlighted item name is, I think, not enough verbocity. At minimum, what I'd like to know is the title of the menu/screen I'm on when it opens, and then the name of a highlighted item as well as its selection or state. If there are multiple tabs that can be switched between with bumper buttons on a controller, which is somehow indicated visually, then it should also be indicated with speech (even just saying something like page 1 of 3 would be enough I think.) And maybe sometimes knowing what kind of item something is might be helpful as well - For instance, some games just put things like music/effects volumes or graphic detail settings as sliders, so you can just use right/left to adjust them. But then some other games put them in as sub menus, so I'd want to know if I'm dealing with a case where I might first need to press A before I can adjust an option. Finally, there's the problem with additional text. If I'm on a screen giving me a yes/no prompt, the screen reading should read that additional text when the dialog opens, as it may be important. And sometimes you have additional screen tooltips that change based on what's selected, which might give equipment stats or explain what an option does. These should also be spoken.

The most accessible multiplayer games by far are Dice World and huboodle, both offer text chat and huboodle in one of the games also has realtime voice chat. Off the top of my head a few of the trivia crack games are accessible - those being the original and kingdoms, Trivia Crack 2 switched to Unity and is sadly not playable. There's also the Blindfold RS games client. And on the Android side you have the recently released Dreamland. Most dialog is still in Chinese, but the interface has been translated into English. The game is a realtime MMO with both text and voice chat.As far as CVAA compliance goes I don't think these games do it completely - if VoiceOver/Talkback is on you can have text chats read out to you, but afaik none of these games offer realtime voice chat transcription. But it's as close as you're going to get.

Re: What audio gaming related merchandise do you wish existed?

When I played baribari racing a few years ago one particular piece of amazing engrish jumped at me. When you're in first place and have a large lead over your opponents, the game says "You exist overwelmingly!". I had this as my Skype and WhatsApp status message for a long time. When this happened I immediately thought I'd want that on a T-shirt.

Re: tactical battle lot of erors

I got this error as well a few months ago while trying to play the rampage map. I think there might be a leak in the sound system somewhere. I was playing on a computer with 16 GB of ram, so I don't think the computer running out of ram is the issue

supposedly this new one has a few RPg elements, with turn based combat. I’m gonna have to check this out later, because the trailer did sound interesting.

Re: Is toom hunter being discontinued?

There isn't much point adding too much more. It's an offline game, unlike SBYW which was a multiplayer experience. As long as your game is installed and activated it'll keep working. The activation server is also still operating and that takes considerably less effort to maintain, so I wouldn't worry about it too much.

Re: How should mainstream developers make interfaces accessible?

I voted for screen reader support, but if I could vote for both screen reader or text to speech API I don't really have preference one way or the other, as long as the game talks to me.The other solutions are OK as well, but more expensive to do - recorded VoiceOver in particular cost a lot to record, add disk space and aren't flexible - for pronouncing things like nicknames for example. THis gets even more expensive and less practical if this was to be done globally.Having options in the game to adjust the voice settings is fine as well. From what I heard in recordings Eagle Island just uses the native Windows SAPI but just gives you settings to adjust it.

Re: Eagle Island, new Steam game with screen reader and other things

I'm really excited for this game and added it to my steam wishlist.I do wonder though how playable it'll be for totally blind people, the description sounds like there's an emphasis on platforming more than combat, so the screen reader might be more helpful for low vision people to ease reading text. Of course I'm very much hoping we'll all be able to play it and for all I know I'm worrying over nothing, because this is arguably as big as Skullgirls and the visual novels getting screen reader support all those years ago and we haven't had anything like this happen with a mainstream game in a very long time!

Re: Mixer vs. Twitch: What's the difference?

Re: Mixer vs. Twitch: What's the difference?

The free Twitch account keeps videos for only 3 days or so. You can get a premium plan if you want and keep them for longer, but most people end up just uploading their archives to YouTube, which Twitch can do automatically. As far as comparing them, I can't do much else apart from agreeing with Orin. Mixer has some pretty cool features, like better accessibility and an ultra low latency mode which is nice for user interaction, but Twitch is where the audience's at. And also the terrible accessibility and user experience in general. Both the website and iOS app have major accessibility issues. The website has tons of unlabeled buttons and lags the browser a lot, even if the tab is minimized. Their login page also uses Aria incorrectly which results in screen readers not seeing the log in dialog at all, which is a bit of a major problem. The iOS app is even worse. It works just about enough that you can start a stream, but the watching experience is horrible. The chat is completely inaccessible, every message just shows up as a blank element and you might get a 10% chance VoiceOver will manage to OCR a chat once in a while. The video player is also completely invisible to VoiceOver, so once the player controls to go back, pause and adjust options disappear to get them back you have to turn VO off, tap roughly in the top middle of the screen, turn VO back on and hope you can press whatever button you want before it disappears again.

Re: jugment day : did the aming system change with the free version?

Huh, you're right. I installed the game 2 years ago right after it became free and I remember it working normally. I just tried this same installation again and I'm finding the controls really sensitive as well. Interestingly enough while the movement is super fast, firing your weapon is completely opposite. After you press the key you get a brief, faster burst, followed by a slower than normal firing rate. Microsoft must have changed something in an update and caused this to happen. I wonder if any other older games are affected.

Re: The audio game you've played more than any other?

My favorite games tend to change after something new comes out. A game comes out and I'll play it for weeks until I complete it or get bored. In recent memory, AHC comes to mind, with the majority of my playtime coming during the private beta phase, though I also played quite a bit after release. I also got seriously addicted to Audio Strike. I was grinding at that game for a few weeks, a few hours a day until I completed it and recently I came back to it to buy out all the upgrades for a ship. The thing I've been consistently coming back to, even with all the other stuff coming out, is crazy party. The replay value is there with the on-line multiplayer and the community around the game is also really nice with very little toxicity. Plus Pragma keeps coming out with new versions of the game that keep adding new cards which can completely change the balance. I'm part of the Skype group and love to pop into games when someone announces they're hosting one. Then on the iOS side, maybe this isn't so much an audio game but I also keep coming back to dice world. It's a great game because I can literarly play it whenever I have time, so it's become part of my rutine. When I wake up  all the notifications are waiting for me so I take my turns, and then I keep coming back to it when I have a few minutes IE while waiting for something or when I have a break at work. The game is pretty good at selecting active players for random games so I often get a few challenges every few weeks without even starting games myself, though I also do it if it gets too quiet.

Re: Why Must People Crack Games

2018-01-14 Thread AudioGames . net ForumGeneral Game Discussion : pitermach via Audiogames-reflector

Re: Why Must People Crack Games

Defender in #2 nailed it. I was in the camp of having parents who didn't trust online card payments not too long ago myself. Ironically, wanting a crack for an audiogame was how I formed my very first big international friendship which spawned into many others a few years later. And to go full circle I later ended up buying many games, audio or mainstream, for some of those friends I made.Anyway, that's probably the #1 reason why audio games get cracked. Children not being able to convince their parents to buy something, or not being able to afford it. Or simply being unable to buy it at all. As much as you might think Paypal is ubiquitous, there are parts of the world where noone uses it. Japan prefers local bank transfers, which is why it took so long for people to be able to buy Dreamy Train. China is an even more extreme example, I think the most popular system over there right now for online payments is something built-into the weChat app. I once looked into getting a full version of ZDSR (a Chinese screen reader) because it's fast, and not that expensive (about $80). Except there's literarly no way to buy it On-line and they expect you to either mail them a check, or call the company and make a Chinese bank transfer. I believe India is in a similar boat, where most banks only issue cards that work for local payments and again they have their own payment processing systems that are normally enough.
