You'd think a full metal build would equal durability, but I managed to bend the left side of the casing just by accidentally dropping and then catching the laptop again before it could hit the ground.Your friend would be far better served with the IdeaPad 5 14" or even the IdeaPad Slim if one can be found for cheap. No laptop is going to be able to achieve that. Desktops are always going to be the king of sustained and thermal performance for this reason. There are laptops that are capable of sustaining performance over a long period of time like their desktop counterparts (I mentioned one already) but they do so by making a shit load of noise with tiny high RPM fans. Some of the slim and lite machines are still throttling if you ask them to do anything intensive for more than five minutes, while other slightly thicker machines don't such as the Lenovo legion 5 don't. I'd say that if the next generation of laptops don't get a handle on this, it'll be the one after that for sure.As far as those special edition machines go, the second one you linked to is most likely the one you're going to want to go for, but change the ram configuration to 2x8 GB. You'll probably find yourself wanting to upgrade the SSD down the line is 512GB is a bit tight but you can handle that yourself. Pretty much every part in there is upgradeable besides the CPU, but you said you weren't bothered about that anyway.If you find that you need to install windows, windows update is really good at finding generic drivers for just about everything these days and what it misses you can normally cover with something like snappy driver install or downloads from dell support.As for bios, I'd say it's pretty much an if it isn't broke don't fix it situation. Unless there's some massive new feature like support for newer intel processers (extremely unlikely) then leave it alone. OEMs like dell and HP like to needlessly fuck with fan curves and CPU voltages just so they can say that they've changed something. Sometimes they outright remove features like manual fan adjustment and replace with with an inferior automatic system or they'll remove the ability for you to configure ram timings and call it a stability fix. Sometimes the stars align and they add a feature like this to the bios, but this is about as rare as a ps5 at RRP in December 2020. Take it from someone who worked on thousands of optiplexes, elitedesks, HP Z workstations and the dell precision workstations, the bios updates TAKE SHIT AWAY. Or is it a case of just pick the base addition and go with that.The Del XPS Special Edition does have the better base configuration and if you want your desktop to look like a nice traditional tower then it's the one to go for.The Alienware Aurora r10 Is less of everything, lower end CPU, half the ram, a smaller SSD and a lower end GPU but can be upgraded to be much more powerful than the XPS Special Edition. It does look like the love child of a jet engine and an air purifier though and is also huge. There are also cases where games will use the GPU to process audio effects and the like. Sooner or later someone is going to figure out that a large amount of people have a big chunk of parallel processing hardware that they can do AI things on slotted into their motherboards and start using that for human sounding voices (TM).GPUs aren't just for graphics anymore and haven't been for years, but it seems like more and more people are coming to that conclusion. The 4700U is a powerful chip in the low power space, but put up against op's desktop and it's a completely one-sided curb stomp for the desktop.Given that op's desktop is also a gaming desktop, it will doubtless have at least one of the case panels made from tempered glass, and will have more flashing color changing lights in it than some nightclubs. For the parts in fred's machine you're already looking at about 1.8 to 2K just for the base parts, add in the RGB gubbins and fancy glass panels and you're up at that 2.5K mark no problem. GPD have always allowed the CPUs in their machines to run at the higher end of their power limits plus they've always let us push them beyond that if we wish. So though the X7-Z8750 sounds low end and shitty on paper, you have to take into account the X7-Z8750 in the win was also mated to an active cooling system instead of crammed into a plastic tablet with a bit of thermal tape on the top, was allowed to run at a far higher power limit and was tuned to go as fast as they could make it go.

The drives aren't the thing you have to watch out for as they only spin up periodically to cache tracks into ram. Batteries though? Mines has been through at least 4 changes that I can remember doing due to me using the hell out of it. Besides that it's been jolted around, dropped more times than I care to remember, had stuff dropped on it more times than I remember, almost set on fire once, Stood on once and almost stolen by a small child. I've written at least half a terabyte to the drive over the years and the thing just won't die. Apple were a different company back then though, they built shit to last. To be more specific and also to catch people up who don't have any idea about what's going on here, google's Accessibility Services had a hell of a flaw that would change your device's encryption password to the default password when enabled.This was only present in older versions of android and the message you'd get upon enabling an accessibility service looked something like this:Use ?If you turn on , your device won't use your screen lock to enhance data encryption. needs to:Clicking OK in this box would literally change your device's encryption password to "default_password", essentially decrypting your phone. Tons of stuff on android have accessibility services for you to switch on and plenty of them would cause this behavior LastPass being a fantastic example. This issue was widely known about at the time.Despite this, so called android accessibility experts screamed from the rooftops about how the bad china software was stealing your data, while shutting the hell up if you called them on their hypocrisy. Perhaps they believe that Western big tech are the only ones that should be taking liberties with your data? I don't know.Further muddying the waters over this issue was the fact that one of csr's biggest detractors is loudly against the practice of side loading any apps at all, believing that everything must come from the big G and be verified by precious google play protect.Safe to say that this entire issue was about 10 percent misunderstanding and 90 percent bullshit, I run CSR on an OnePlus 7 pro, android 10 and if I boot to recovery I still have to put in my password to decrypt my phone before anything can be done with it.Your mileage will vary with older phones of course, but this app isn't doing anything on your phone that hasn't been done before.
