You have to preorder those or get seriously scalped after the game is released.But those were all from big companies with generally good reputations to keep, and good standings within the gaming community to maintain, and you don't do that by screwing people.The only one that was a mistake was Duke Nukem Forever. Duke Nukem 3D was a great game, but after eleven years and still no Duke Nukem Forever, and then the news that 3D Realms had fired the entire development team, then a couple of months later closed their own doors. The Duke Nukem rights were picked up by Gearbox Studios who then finished Duke Nukem Forever and it turned out to be a worthless piece of crap that made you wonder where the eleven years of development work went. The wise cracking Duke Nukem charm that made the first three games such big hits was nowhe re to be seen in Duke Nukem Forever.One of the problems was that half way through the development work, they decided to abandone the Quake engine in favor of the Unreal engine. The two engines are so different that to do that you basically had to start over. Not to mention that I thought the Quake engine was a far superior engine. None of the games that I played that used the Unreal engine were what I considered technically impressive. They just all seemed pretty much the same old crap, just in a different box. Two factors that have earned them my trust.I did get taken by Blindside though, nowhere on their site or in the game& #039;s documentation are you made aware that you are only buying the first of many episodes. You don't find that out until you actually finish the game.My solution to that deception is to never buy from them again, no matter what they promise. Mechanics are totally screwed and I'm pretty sure it's using the same engine and mechanics from Airik the cleric.I still hate this scanning thingy. Remember how I played Airik and scanned everything step by step to find things around because well, there's no other way. There are many good examples how navigation could be done in much better way without making gameplay so boring, unresponsive and frustrating. To be fair, I really liked Airik's atmosphere even if every Breakerbox game is using the same sounds (well, atleast some) the same bad quality, the same volume problems but still, it was fun. Problem is, I don't require flashy and super fantastic audio design when gameplay factor is just bad. I was close to falling a sleep after minutes of wandering around the map and s canning, scanning, scanning and scanning.Shadow line is the best and perfect example how games should be done. I'm playing SR for over 60 hours and still moving around the world makes me feel like I'm a player, this is true game where I'm not blind.I know there are more examples of good navigation but it depends on the game genre and type.It's just so fun when I can hear bumping in to trees and well, scanning around LOLI'm not a beta tester But maybe you can improove this game to be much more fun than just frustrating, atleast for me, maybe everyone else is thinking in other way but I still knows many who agree with me at this point. Jake is actually setting a trap and closing himself inside, why? He's promising over and over with every next game and actually this is what I hate, what most of the gamers hate so much and no matter big companies are doing the same, it's something to learn from and for sure not to follow.Regarding the promises about unique, exciting, superior and innovative game? yeah, I hear that a couple of times before and as I played most of the games (all probably) from Breakerbox I need to say every single one is buggy as hell, navigation there is making these more frustrating than fun and lastly, sound design isn 't high quality for me. Most of the sounds are from other previous titles and many times there's quality / volume problems.Now I'll be probably called 'RUDE MEMBER' what I'm not care about to be fair. I just expressed my opinions without attacking someone or something like that. I hate devs who are actually using this kind of tricks and as many members of this forum knows me personally more or les know, I'm a kind of guy who will SUPPORT CREATIVE and UNIQUE and AMBITIOUS projects. I've learned in the past how to react on this kind of situations and sometimes it's better to not say anything and ignore it than arguing, preordering a game, waiting for it for another year or so... Let me just say that telling people to stop with their suggestions did absolutely nothing. So will telling people to stop crying and complaining or to comm down. Now, what i'm going to say will sting for those of you who think we're being self entitled, but this needs to be said. Complaining is an importent part of life. Weather its constructive or distructive, it doesn't matter, nore does it matter weather we're dealing with just a game, just a bit of food, etc. Its the people who are the most outspoken who get to the top in life. It doesn't matter how they say it, if their outspoken and give people a reason to support them, they climb up hire on the ranks. That's how it works amongst the sited and that's how it works here. As someone who livd in an e nvironment where saying something sucked or calling someone a jerk would get you in trouble, and finding out the hard way that life doesn't work that way and isn't nicey nice, I support those upset with gyro, because as was stated, he's provided prommiss after prommiss. In the relm of biznis, their's no room for excuses like that, and i'm willing to bet you all do exactly the same thing to nether realms when they discontinued the mk pc port, and i'm sure you do the same thing towards electronic arts when they screw up a game you like. It doesn't matter how menny people are behind the wiel. What gyro does makes no difference, the ultimit goal is, weather its him or E A, they all do the same thing, they provide you with a product and if they prommiss you a product on a release date and you don't get it, doesn't matter what that product is, unless your in a communist country that repress's all opinions, your entitled to voice that opini on, just like your entitled to voice to me that my opinion is not worth listening too if that's jenuanly how you feel. That's what free speech is. Now i'm sure the question is going to get asked again, danny, surely you wouldn't like it if you were on the receiving end of your and steve's comments. Let me tell you that I already have been on the receiving end. I've had people tell me on swomp, to my face that whatever project I was not working on was not a good game. Was I upset, sure. But that's on me, not the person. The simple understanding is, and this is how it works in the reel world, is that you voice your opinion, how I choose to take it is not on you, its on me. And i'd like it if I got unsugarcoted posts when I released a project. I don't mined if people say my game sucks. To me, those comments, even if they don't appear helpful in improving my work, remind me that their's balance. Re: Edge of Winter - New Castle Adventure Audio Game I actually agree.Ok I have brought the game which I have never got.But things do come out eventually.My life aint ruled by a game!I could care less.I support this dev because everything he releases is and has been good quality for the most part.Right now griff2 is not panning some sounds right 1 is but oh well I can still play it.True he is slow and doesn't keep to release dates but his stuff has never been of bad quality.The strength of his stuff well.I do feel for those that got titles that he suddenly shelved like the eric series when people had brought that.However I prefur waiting ages for something rather than getting a lot of crappy games in a few months.As an example look what happened with reality software.It tried to pander to everyone's demands.In the end the dev burnt out and started going in directions he didn't want to go in.Its not like the other end of the stick with james north and bavisoft either.Stuff still comes out.Maybe its better to not bother about dates before till they are released.Yes in the early days I was a bitchy whiner pirating cracker bastard.I expected things to be well there because they should.I still do, but guess what?I have a life outside of computers, outside of my life.I don't have the time to fiddle anymore I don't even have the time to hack for myself.I have several e books and game books on my hard drive ready to be listened to, sorted out either kept or killed.I have spent loads of cash in books and other things in the cue of things when my life was not as busy.I am struggling to get through the week's audio I am testing, I have contract work.And when I do have some time if I am not tired or having to catch up on talking books and other things maybe.Life changed after I left school.My responcibilities were less and I had time to endulge in such things as hacking, and cracking.I could sleep all day and often did.I could eat 30 dollars of kfc for lunch every day and often did.I could be a total asshole and often was.I left school over 10 years back, did uni, started gym, started having a life of sorts.I now am contracted out to several places some pay me and some not.I also do a lot for sonnar interactive right now.I struggle to fit in the standard stuff I need to do to keep up to date.As locutus says your life is over.My old life is over and the new one well I can't find time to fit it all in.Sometimes I have gotten so busy that I have forgot I had work till it appeared at my desk and then I realised I had work and did it.For those at school still you like me probably thought that being an adult means you don't do school and have a nice life.I didn't know how crazy life was in the future.If I could tell my self t hat my shitty helpless crappy life was something to treasure I would!Life is the same as it always was but its complex.Games are one thing I am not interested in full time anymore.I for example can't spend time on any online game for any real amount of time unless I plan for that and even then.Today is rainy and crappy so I may get some time to do something about some gamebook or so. Rude people are not those who pull up to the drive through, order, pay up, and are still sitting there 25 minutes later with the person who took their order popping their head out from time to time going, "Yoour food will be out in just a second"... wait 5 minutes... "your food will be out in just a second, sorry for the wait"... wait 5 minutes... "We're almost done cooking the fries. Your food will be out in just a second..." you get the picture, and then that customer says "you know what? Forget this. give me my money back, I'm taking my business elsewhere". No, Gyro, you're actually lucky you haven't been sued already. So please, I ask you, count that a ferm blessing. You could've been sued, in all respects, 6 months ago. But because these "rude" people stuck it out for a year before asking for their money back, you weren't. You don't deliver, you get complaints. And not just from the blind community, but from the mainstreem community. It doesn't matter weather we're entitled to a game or not. It doesn't matter if we should be grateful just because someone is developing for us, or not. The simple fact of the matter is, you prommissed. Now your stuck to that deli very date and if you miss that delivery date, we are with in our rights, blind or not to wine, moan, and complain about it, weather you like it or not is erellivant. Now, lets brush up on a few things. You say you were going to post the beta but the audiogames.net site was down. Understandable, but I have a very very quick question, surely this won't take more than 20 seconds to answer. Why couldn't you have just posted it in your last post then. And you've never announced release dates for games like gryff? Yes, when my cat figures out she can talk, walk on 2 legs and is on a human level of behayvure equal to that of sheldon cooper. I can name quite a few instances where, for example, in your first post you've told us that gryff was ready to go and people could start ordering. They ordered, and you told them you had to wait a few hours, that got pushed to a few days, and at last after the complaints roled in you at last announced no release date set, which, by t he way, did not undo the damage you've already done. And news flash, people are with in their rights to file a lawsuit if you continue this kind of behayvure, weather you have a reel life and personal life matters is erellivant in that kind of situation. Now, let me speak for those who ordered and for those who are waiting for this game. We want no more excuses, and for the people who pre ordered, they want what they payed for, a game, and because you told them it'd be out by such and such date, they want it out by that date. They don't want your tardyness in the same way a teacher doesn't cair a student is late, and they defanatly don't want your excuses. And if you can't handle it, please, kindly supply us with nothing and refund those who have baught the game. As to outside people like me, your already a lost developer and i'm not intrested in ordering any titles from you until you get your act together and I can be reassured that i'm getti ng what I payed for. There are multiple options here to make this a good experience... we're running testing sessions tonight, if you would like to join, send an email to breakerboxstud...@gmail.com, then we'll follow up with version 1.0 game release, this is the time of year it is meant to release since it's kind of a between fall and winter game. Rest assured. Number 1, I have released five audio titles before. Number 2, games like Griff were not given a release date responsibly and specifically to avoid lateness issues. I reassured people it would be out within a few weeks. The few rude people I always see on this forum still called it late immediately despite it not even having a release date, they were still claiming it was fake, then behold, it actually did release a couple weeks later. If I made such a correction with that game, and they were still acting that way then it says something about so me members of this forum (which are always the same people) who give good members a bad name and cause companies to leave audio games (which has happened before), then I certainly would only announce this one as being near the week of Halloween if it were true. Which it is. Griff 2 released immediately without any wait time at all. so please allow us to finish this last bit of testing and we'll release 1.0 of the full game. I sincerely apologize for past delay, but on another positive note, I we'll be releasing a full, high quality action adventure game with no lateness at all. This game will be completely free for anyone who has purchased Edge of Winter. Developer friends are working on this title so it doesn't affect the games in progress. We'll release Airik 2 and the Steampunk games next. Despite the bumps in the road, we always finish and we're innovative with making audio games feel like video games. I hate lyers and deceivers. im going to try and talk to some people to see if we can take legal action against this guy. I know its only 15bucks, but hey its the principal. if he can't finish the product for what ever reason, he needs to just refund everyone there money back, simple. and this is a lesson learned to everyone that pre ordered this game, never and I mean never, pre order a game ever again no matter how good it sounds, or how good the demo plays, because you are bound to run into issues like this. wait until the game has officially came out, so you can listen to a podcast about the complete version, or read some reviews on it, before purchasing it. main stream games are pre ordered all the time, but that's only so you can have it on the first day before it sells out, so you won't be stuck waiting days and months for it. in the audio game community, you don't have to worry about a game selling out, its going to be there. and if you absolutely want to support a game before its release, only do so through go fund me or kick starter. by going through these avenues, it will assure that you will get your money back if the game happens to fall through for some reason. I had pre-ordered Airik 1, 2 and 3. After many years I wanted a refund for Airik 2 and 3, which have never been released. In July, he told me that he would send me a refund, but it never arrived despite many written email. I never thought it was a thief, however what I tell you is true, and I gave Jyro many possibilities. Another reason that pushes me to seek reimbursement is the awareness that Jyro is not able to make a game for the blind at a high level. But above all, the refund is motivated by the fact that i am tired of waiting and waiting for a game that will never go out. I'd like to end this situation, but unfortunately it is still suspended.What can I do?Thanks.
