Re: Looking for MUDs with a rich lore, magic related crafting and PVP

I keep trying avalon, since there are so many systems that look good and the writing is some of the best I've seen, but I don't like the fact that so much of the game is player driven. At one point I was just having other players tell me to practice this and practice that about 100 times and nothing actually like a quest or goal to do. I do gather a lot has changed, but the start was very confusing, it's a game I've always meant to put time into. Clok is very nicely done, though there the ooc/IC distinction can get complex, still I love the wilderness and activities.A tempest season other players seem okay, though myself as more a solo question type I've been concentrating on the quests, still there is a lot of lore and rp events too, and one of the most unique combat systems I've seen for a while as well as classes that truly play differently. I'd highly suggest giving it a go.

Gar, I'd never heard of Shattered Isles. Will look into it, thanks.Dark, Avalon is like a ghost town these days so I hezitate to commit time to it. Tempest Season seems promissing though. Do you know anything about the player base?tysonsylvester123, have you actually been playing Achaea? I read that the combat there may be spammy at times and is heavily scripted. Would you say it is so?I love exploring different MUDs, so keep 'm coming! I would also appreciate if you directed me to MUDs that you also played.

Re: any easygoing MUDS that are not baced off of any other MUD?

I would say Erion, accept that I am not sure if it is based off an older codebase. the problem tends to be that most muds with classes, levels etc,are based off either dicu or circle mud, even if highly modified, or if not use systems which are very much like Dicu or circle mud, classes, trains, practices and so on, heck even Alteraeon rather resembles Dicu in some ways. This even goes for heavily different games such as cyber assault. The difference I've found tends to be either , how much the game has varied the initial concepts, for example with interesting abilities or well built areas, or how well put together the game's basic world and quests are. Indeed, most of the time it seems the more a game differs from the basic dicu concept, the more complex it is, for example 3 kingdoms/3 scapes and 4 dimensions all both have extremely complex gameplay and don't appear to be based on dicu variants, but none are that easy to play, whilst other heavily custom built games such as 7th plane, avalon or clok have very little  like recognizable classes at all.So my best recommendation is simply to try muds and find something fun and easy to get into, and ignore if it has dicu elements or not. Right now I'm  impressed with tempest season if you want a kill game with very unique combat, though I don't know if there is a necro class on that.

Re: List of Muds for Cooking, Crafting, Farming, and Exploration

I never got into empire mud, it was always a bit too over populated when I wanted to try and build or find things myself, plus I was less keen on the skill tree system being so preclusive. Cursed lands is one I need to try myself. Lament I found a bit impenitrable since I never really found where to easily do what, EG I could make baskets, but had no use for them. At the moment though I'm getting very much in to tempest season, which doesn't have actual item crafting yet, but does have gathering of ores used to purchice items and fletching your own arrows as a ranger, plus I believe making various potions and such as a mage too. As to space muds, I'm less keen on the hole miriani fly a spaceship, blow up other players thing, but I do love exploring alien planets, since there's something just fascinating to me about being somewhere utterly alien that I can't predict, particularly since a lot of fantasy environments like the usual dark forest or troll  mountains or dungeons are feeling a bit familiar. I actually really miss wayfar1444, and would love to see another mud all about setting up your own space colony and going from wilderness survival onwards, though I am also waiting for galactic colonies on Ios for that experience.

I don't know about pvp, but you might want to check This topic all about crafting muds, many of which also have great combat systems.Avalon the legend lives, Clok, Flexible survival if you don't mind a little weirdness, and 3 kingdoms/3 scapes might be good ideas. You might also want to check  out tempest season (see This topic, which is a mud just getting started. No actual crafting yet, but probably the most unique combat I've seen in a mud for a considerable while, and  truly interesting classes. hth.

Looking for MUDs with a rich lore, magic related crafting and PVP

Hello,Ten years ago or so I used to play MUDs and I remember I was enjoying it so much. Since I have some free time, I am thinking about going back to mudding to see if I’ll get the same enjoyment.I'm looking for a MUD with a rich lore and decent player base that is combat (PVP) focused and has a deep crafting and magic system. By saying crafting what I want is to be able to create magical items like scrolls, wands, rods, and staves that can compete with the items dropped by npcs and have an impact in the game. I don't mind spending time and effort to reach this level. I would prefer no enforced RP, though I wouldn't mind it being there as an option because there are times when I want to be creative. As for the player base, I want to have the choice to interact with other players. The main reason why I quickly get bored and stop playing MUDs is lack of player interaction and like-minded friends be it IC or OOC. Even a simple player-based economy would go a long way in reminding me that I don’t play alone. So far from what I gathered by reading the posts in this forum and Reddit here is the list of MUDs I'm considering trying:Avalon RPGDiscworldGeasClokMateria MagicaBatmudLensmoorEnd of Time MudArmageddonAccursed LandsDark and Shattered LandsAncient AnguishI know some of the above MUDs have dwindling populations or are plagued by issues related to admins and such so that’s why I need your opinion. Based on my criteria, which MUD would you recommend me to enter?I know I want too many things and it seems like I'm searching the perfect MUD but shoot me your suggestions anyway. thanks!

Okay so I know this is a really old post, but I am wondering which ones nowadays are good for crafting, still running, have a playerbase, even if it's a small one, but one with at least a few people on at a time, and one that's not RP enforced, oh and one that doesn't purge for inactivity if I have to be away from it for a while. Anything fit the bill? I'll also check TMC.

@mirage, did you check out coremud? see this topic It had a lot of really nice systems that I liked, in particular very detailed mining, item building  and lots of interesting quests. I particularly liked how at higher levels you could specialise in one activity, EG engineering, mining or combat, and be slightly better at that thing, but not preclude yourself from doing either of the others. It also really was a game that made me feel as if I were on an alien planet working for a mining company, with getting my own quarters etc.Sadly, a lot of the game systems revolve around interaction and got changed to automate, which means economic interactions don't really pan out, EG I believe at one time you actually had to buy things from a human shopkeeper, but there's still a really interesting game in there all the same, with farming, building, quests, and of course lots and lots and lots of mining .

From what I read, but do not know, The merchant system of Shattered Isles is a huge aspect of the world. All players regardless of class have the opportunity to learn gathering and crafting skills, allowing them to gather and trade materials, or craft them into something to be used or sold. New trade skills are unlocked by advancing related skills, such as learning Wood Carving from Wood Chopping. Additional trade skills can be learned from completing quests. That's all it states. I think it sounds ok, ut never know. game.shatteredisles.net 5900

Re: are there any muds in the setting of our reality?

Hi. firstly, the connection info for cyber assault is cyberassault.org port 1. you can find out more on Cyber assault's index page found hereThe game isn't exactly our reality, it's more a mishmash  science fiction and post appocalypse, though it does have firearms etc. I admit I didn't get on well with it myself, though part of that might have been missing the newbie area, it's possibly a game I need to try again, although many people sware by the game and there is even a soundpack. Epitaph I would not recommend, it is post appocalyptic zombocalypse, however it has very little adaptation for screen reader users and is  plane clunky to play, I barely finished the tutorial either due to the silly combat display. On the other hand Flexible survival Database page here, is one I can highly recommend. It's a post appocalyptic game, with mutations, mutant powers and everything from guns to electric stun battons. the combat is not like any other mud, also, since the mud's setting is a world overcome by sex crazed mutants, parts of the game can obviously stray into the erotic, however the community are very friendly and the game has so many unique systems it's unbelievable, even a fully browser based game which you  log into and play at the same time as the mud. There are others kicking around, perhaps some that are literally our reality rather than futuristic or appocalyptic, but those are the best I've tried.

These are for mushclient:I actually have another empire soundpack that's very bulky. It's far from complete but at least it's something. I think someone's taking over and working on it now as I myself haven't been on and worked on it for a while.Inferno, this one I made and stopped after a very nasty corp robbing happened that demotivated me from playing completely. I've given the pack to Ryok and hope he still works on it now.Clok: The links are in my artus' clokpack topic. I'm not sure if anyone updated the links in the database, but don't do that yet. I need to move the pack from the ftp that's no longer mine to dropbox first.Flexible survival: I'm working on it, but some, if not most, of the non-ambient related sounds should be covered already, and some ambients are already added. Gonna be another bulky one I suppose, but not as bulky as empire. Will work on it when I have more time.Frandum: this one's going very slowly as I myself am pretty busy and don't have time to work on solving anything much these days. But it's still in development so stay tuned. It may take billion years but I'm not abandoning it.I've been thinking of making soundpack for awakened world but I'm not sure if it'll die soon or not. I hope not, cause it's fun. I may work on it at some point if I see more players around. I myself haven't logged in in a while. I have a job now, and I like it. My dedication may mean I don't really have much time during the day to do anything and pretty much hit the sack once I reach my bed in the early or late evening. My roommate who occasionally stays here is also a light sleeper, so no too loud noise at night for me, which includes accidental unplugging of headphones as well. But if you wonder if I'll abandon anything in these list, rest assured. I won't.

Cosmic rage has several very extensive soundpacks supported in the game itself for both Mushclient and Vipmud.Cyber assault also has a soundpack for mushclient I think, as does Miriani, though I've not tried either of those since mostly I use Vipmud acceppt in Alteraeon.Six dragons also used to have a soundpack, but whether that counts days of dragons or other six dragons variations I don't know.I would ask though, what are you counting as a sounpack exactly?Cosmic rage's soundpack is almost as extensive as Alteraeons, with background sounds, sounds for most activities etc, whilst Materiamagica's is basically just  odd bit of audio fluff when stuff happens, even combat is mostly silent. Six dragons was a bit more extensive than MAteriamagica's, but no where near Alter and Cosmic rage.

Since this question is asked so often, I thought I would start a list of Muds that have soundpacks. These are for the VipMud client, unless otherwise noted.I don't have links, but at least you can look them up once you know there is a soundpack. If others would like to add soundpack links, that would be great.Small list, but it's a start.Alter Aeon - MushClientClokCosmic RageKallistiMateria MagicaUnofficial Squaresoft Mud

yeah, I hate death traps as well, I flew my ship into a star in 4D as well. I like them in cyberassault though cause you only get stunned for a certain amount of time which is fair enough, but losing eq, no way. I don't even mind losing some xp, but not eq. Renting muds are stupid and it sucks that all the good sounding muds have rental systems still.

In Skyrim, you had traps, but they wouldn't usually outright kill you. You got hit once and it smacked you around a little bit and you watched where you stepped next time.

I actually don't mind deathtraps per se, indeed I rather like them if as part of a quest or other detailed area since they give you something to watch out for and mean you can't just mindlessly go through slaughtering anything and everything in your path. What I do object to is losing gear or progression in an area due to a deathtrap as happened in 4d, then again 4d is an annoyingly obscure game in many ways. BTw in 4d it was flying my ship into a star that caused the problem. On the one hand it was my fault for flying that way and not using the scan commands correctly, on the other this was literally the third move in space I made with my ship before I used all the commands and the help files weren't exactly helpful on this point.Cyber assault I still want to reset my character, since I missed most of the newbie area and I think some important gear, or perhaps other stuff, though there is no reset or delete option unfortunately.

Re: Progression in "Renting" Muds

Not really a fan of Death Traps either, and the same excuse is given as in no eq keeping. Something something, keep the economy going with replacement equipment. Despite old players knowing what not to do to get killed and lose all their stuff.   The one mud I didn't mind the deathtraps in was Cyber Assault, as death wasn't really that much of a big deal outsider of losing progression in an area. However, it also had the fun inclusion of a quest that had you hunt down a large number of death traps throughout the mud and die to them. Especially a few hidden ones near the end. No eq loss too, and not even xp, as all of them just stunned you for about a minute and a half at recall.

Re: Progression in "Renting" Muds

See, I thought most deathtraps in 4d would not destroy your gear. They'd just kill you and dump you back wherever with everything on you still. You lose exp or whatever, but no gear. I may be misremembering. That situation with the sword and deathtrap...that's just ridiculous. I intensely dislike it when puzzles are not in some way telegraphed. For instance:look swordA longsword, suspended from a fragile-looking chain which disappears into the gloom overhead. You could probably get it if you wanted to, but something seems odd about that chain.look chainThis chain doesn't look all that sturdy, but it's attached to something way above your head. Wait...are those spikes? This is still pretty mean in a newbie area, but at least you would have some idea that it's there. Now, what I'd probably do is make it do damage instead of straight-up kill you and wreck your eq, with the warning that future deathtraps might not be so kind. This simultaneously startles and teaches at the same time. But a setup where you can be dumped out of a newbie area with a deathtrap that has no real warning to it (like seriously, how are you supposed to know that the sword is booby-trapped?) is just bullshit. I hope that mud has gone to wherever bad muds go when they die.

I don't like losing ec on death either. Indeed in most games where you leave behind a corpse, there is usually some method of corpse retrieval. The one game that really irritated me for that was 4 dimensions, because there you got ec as quest rewards, so if a death trap lost you all your ec, bang goes your progress!I confess that was why I didn't continue far with avatar mud, though the fact that mud also had very rudimentary systems for quest tracking dinn't exactly help either.

Re: Progression in "Renting" Muds

The talk of death traps makes me think of the time when I was younger (not that much maybe), and actually honest to God rage quit a mud. I'd never done it before and I haven't since then, but whew! There was a newbie school with your standard rooms teaching you to examine objects. The room talked of the importance of looking at objects and room descriptions to suss out keywords and help you be a more thorough mudder. So, you looked at the room and there was a down exit. You went down and there was a sword. You looked at the sword and there was text expressing how wonderful and smart you were to find equipment and that being thorough would serve you well in the game and that with great exploration comes great reward.Get sword"Stalactites begin to fall from the ceiling, crushing your poor newbie frame. You have encountered what is known as a death trap. Maybe you'll be more careful next time."Neither the topic nor anything in the room talked about death traps at all. My character was tossed out of the newbie academy, penniless and naked. I asked over the newbie channel if I could get back in to the academy, which was a resounding no. Once you left the academy, whether on purpose or via death trap, there was no way to return. Who codes something so punitive and stupid? I asked nicely how I needed to proceed because losing newbie equipment to a death trap in one of the first newbie rooms when the topic was never mentioned was unfair and not very newbie friendly. The players told me that it's just a part of the mud and I could either get over it or get out, and that this method separated the wheat from the chaff.I was quiet for five minutes and then gave them quite the textual earful in paragraph form. I was livid at the callousness with which they treated their newbies, and then I left in a hail of textual glory. There are systems that I wish muds would do away with, such as hunger and thirst. But the idea of rent and death traps has become a deal breaker for me, full stop.

Re: Progression in "Renting" Muds

I dislike leaving behind a corpse and losing eq on death. It punishes newbies more than is necessary. Lose experience, fine. Lose skill points or money or whatever, fine. And leaving a corpse behind, in and of itself, is potentially okay in a case like AA where if you have your corpse you can sometimes regain some of what you lost. That's cool. But if you play a MUD, get to like level 9, find some cool gear somewhere, take one wrong turn, get murdered and lose your EQ, that's often pretty crushing. I've quit MUDs over this.

I suppose if it's a primarily roleplaying game it would make sense to lose equipment on death, but sometimes it's beyond ridiculous. Alter Aeon used to have this as well. A lot of muds try to justify this by saying that they are not punishing the player but instead fostering a sense of camaraderie. They also try to say that equipment isn't important, but I think it's a bunch of BS.I, too, am not interested in games that make you lose your equipment.

I think AA in this context meant Ancient Anguish, not Alter Aeon. Alter is pretty kind in this regard. Most MUDs are, these days. And Ironcross, totally agree with you. Back in the day I would've understood it. Now it's just...well, if it's not outright lazy, it's cliquish. Because your vets are gonna know how to gear up fast, while your newbies have one more aspect of the game they have to learn. There's a MUD called Icesus which has a lot of neat things going for it, but one of the downsides is that you had to return to a safe location to quit. If I'm playing a game, I need to be able to pause or quit basically any time for it to be viable. People who have kids or multiple pets or whatnot probably have this even worse.

A common complaint they had with new players trying out the game was that people enjoyed playing it, but did not enjoy having to store or regain equipment every time at guild halls. Now, equipment saves on your character, and the devs had performed a few updates with something they wanted to do.   Now, the one excuse muds who still do this say is that the economy for the game revolved around constantly paying for equipment every time. but the Genesis devs decided to go with a different approach, implementing a special enchanting system in which one can try to extract certain enchantments from specially enchanted equipment, creating stones that can be combined and eventually imbued with the abilities and stats you want your favorite pieces of gear to have. People were paying top coin for any heavily enchanted drops that could be extracted for valuable stats, as well as finished products of gear. There, new economy created.

Re: Progression in "Renting" Muds

I refuse to play such MUDs, the concept is ridiculous. Back in the day, it made sense. You were vying over limited system resources, and so it wasn't feasible for players to be able to store the equipment since disk space would be limited. Now, we do not have such problems. There is sufficient RAM and disk space for any MUD to run on, and it is sheer laziness that the developers don't convert their worlds to be able to take advantage of these new found resources.

Progression in "Renting" Muds

Does anyone play Muds where you have to rent or lose equipment on logout?I can understand a reboot at three or six-month intervals, to even the field for new and old players. But I can't imagine how you make any progress when you have to regain equipment every time you log in.I am specifically interested in Ancient Anguish, because there is quite a bit in the way of unique activities, and ranger classes get to raise a wolf companion which bonds with them for life. That makes me really want to play. But it seems like I would either have to stay close to a town with an inn to rent and keep my equipment, or I would have to just go without any eq if I stayed in the wilderness.Does anyone have thoughts on this, or specific strategies they use to make games like this enjoyable?

As far as 3 kingdoms 3 scapes, there is a pretty extensive list of differences which include things like sharing qinfo and resets. with the six dragons games, last I checked classic six dragons had gone down, which was a shame since it had some very handy accessibility adaptations very none spammy combat, but I'm not sure if this was replicated in days of dragons or not. Days of dragons was still being maintained though, so goodness knows.

Does anyone know if there are differences in the 6dragon Muds, and if so, what they might be.There was classic 6 dragons. Then there is Days of Dragons. And now I discovered 6 Dragons: A Twist of Fate. (Not sure if this one's up yet.)I'm wondering if anyone has played all of these, and whether there are enough differences to warrant playing all of them, or if they are so similar that it doesn't matter which one you choose.(As an aside, I also have this question about 3kingdoms vs. 3scapes, and about Forgotten Realms themed Muds.I'm trying to check out Muds and add to my "crafting mud" topic which is why I'm going to so many different ones. Thanks in advance for any info on any of these Muds.

Info on 4dimensions crafting can be found Here on the wiki Also remember that to do crafting in 4d you need to complete quests, EG to cook you need to wander around and actually physically find ingredients, and I  mean just go into a wilderness and type forage or kill something and scan corpse, I mean literally find them like things in a quest, for instance, to get eggs you need to talk to people  find someone who tells you when their chickens lay and return at that time, and to get flour you need to physically grow the wheet yourself, then look on the bag to find instructions on where to find the mill etc.Actually 4d has some of the most rewarding and in depth crafting I've seen, the one downer, is that as with much in 4D, its so obscure to actually find things or do things and the community isn't always as helpful as they could be. There is also lensmore, though I still need to try that one myself, and I believe someone mentioned a mud called haven with a detailed crafting system. Then of course these days I'd say Alteraeon is almost getting to be a crafting mud, or at least it was last time I played since the amount of stuff you can make is getting quite extensive. As I said in post 80, there's also flexible survival, which oddly enough for a mud about post apocalyptic sex crazed mutants, has one of the most well developed and unique crafting systems I've seen which doesn't work quite like any other mud.;First, you can craft pretty much anything in the game from clothing, to furniture to weapons and even pets, however to craft you need a recipe which can be bought, found, looted or otherwise acquired. The recipe will call for so many salvage items. You can get salvage sometimes in combat, sometimes as presents or for completing missions, sometimes by mining or gathering in given areas, and sometimes even as rewards for roleplaying (really FS is the only game I've seen that has a tangible automated rp reward system). You then put together your salvage and your recipe to build something, so to build a gun you would need a recipe and some ,  some mechanical or chemical salvage, the better the quality of your salvage  better the gun. The cool thing however, is that recipes also come with modifyers. So if you add the modifyer "tiny" to a gun, it takes up less inventory space. modifyers don't just involve combat items either, modifyers for clothing could dictate where to wear it,  how much salvage it takes to build. If all that wasn't enough, the game then has crafting only bounties. You can find these on the web  basically, your given an order for an item and so long to fulfill it, get it right, you get xp and salvage and such.As well as crafting, Flexible survival also has a lot of other none combat activities, including fishing, farming, raising mutant anaimals and racing them, and a really cool in game system whereby you can use character skills to complete jobs like rolling dice in a gamebook, indeed its possible to completely turn combat off in the game if you want and progress entirely through none combat actions and roleplaying, though you still will run into mutants from time to time and perhaps get infected. Oh, and btw, the game has probably one of the nicest communities I've seen in any mud, as well as a host of very well   maintained guidelines and careful moderation for people to make clear   what level of eroticism people are comfortable with, if any.

Although it will require a lot of work on your part, Cosmic Rage is one of the most extensive MUDs in everything. It has over 50 mainstream activities and dozens of things you can make from armor, to candles, to perfumes, to sculptures, to baskets, to bows, and all sorts of other things. It's actually a space mud, and it does want you to act in-character as much as you can, but if you are willing to work at it, the crafting possibilities are pretty incredible.

Reviving this thread, because people still seem to be looking for good muds with cooking, farming, and such.Alteraeon has really grown with its crafting systems. I am so impressed!CoffeeMud has some crafting, although it seems basic compared to others I've discovered.Sadly, although I loved Avalon, I think it has a lot of internal upheaval, so I'm not on there anymore.Dartmud is one I'm trying to learn about right now, because looking at the wiki, it claims to have a huge and extensive crafting system.BatMud and Ansellon Mud may have crafting, but I found their interfaces to be difficult. I don't know if it was Ascii art, or what was going on. It was really a shame about Ansellon, because I love the Dragonlance world and wanted in!Unfortunately, some of the muds I posted about early on are gone.So has anyone found anything new in the last year or so, regarding crafting muds?

so, i heard it many years ago and  begin plaied for times.first, the new starmourn, more clear skill and ability screens, but i don't like it's ship and system for  all.so, all these muds have simlar problems.1, you can not enter simple name which in other muds,, you only need to type the first three letters as an item name, in these muds, it is more like lp muds which you have to type it's full name.2, it's very grindy, not hard to understand, right.3, the largest problem i have to  say is free player will afraid if i can get the full lessons for skills, it can not get as levels, for many player who  tried it, the 5 lessons per level doesn't help much. and, artifacts, yes, artifacts, consider it's huge bonus, hmm.finally, too many things make me hard from choosing, and it says  some stats  don't have uses make  me  think if it's full playable. i agree with what not spend any in these games, because  as i said, but, hmm, what you guys think?

Re: Roleplay in Muds.

Ironcross, that was a damn good post. I'm something of a roleplay vet, and this hit pretty much all the boxes. One small piece of advice I'd offer is to not worry so much about word use. You don't have to write a thesaurus. I know, rich coming from me, right? But for example, don't do this:Jayde's vibrant green optics sparked with a momentary flicker of transient fear as he regarded the noble visage of Sir Ironcross. His stoic demeanour otherwise wavered not a hair, and he drew Rightkiller, his prized sword, with narry a thought as to the innocent blood it had spilled in its lifetime. "Fight, or die," Jayde intoned, and his voice was as graven steel, implacable, colder than the grave. "Either way, you end now, but one path is a coward's death, the other a hero's tragedy. You decide." Here, Jayde paused, taking a single step back, booted feet crunching on the gravel of the abandoned road. "But decide quickly, for I find your presence tiresome."This isn't god-awful, but it's trying way too hard. Just get your message across, tell your story, don't godmod and generally have fun. And if it's not for you, there's no shame in that.

Re: Roleplay in Muds.

The thing about rp is that you have to be able to get inside the character's head. If you can't do that, you won't be able to RP well. To facilitate this, as a newbie, you should create a character that you can relate with. That is, one or more facets of this character should cause you to at least understand it, but at most, empathize with it. An example would be if you had a troubled childhood, maybe this character does too. This will help you get into the character's mindset. You'll be able to more readily understand their motivations because you understand this aspect of yourself. The more you rp, the further you can stray from your normal range of emotions and things you understand. You will also want to read up on the game lore and understand as much of it as you can from an out of character (OOC) frame of reference so that you can make decisions and act on certain things in character (IC). If you enter a low fantasy world where there are still mages, but magic is anathema, and you openly play this type of character, it will not go well. For one thing, you will face consequences based on this which you may not appreciate, or be able to fully understand if you didn't read up on the lore.I think of my characters as virtual machines that I start up and run while I'm playing that character. When I'm done, I shut down the VM, and the host (me) is free to be me again. There will be bleed through of your own emotion into the character, and your character's emotions into you, but you should try to minimize this as much as possible. One thing that some people struggle with is separating IC vs. OOC actions. Let's say that someone in a game you are on is acting badly towards you, but as their character. You should respond as you think your character would, and you should remember that this isn't indicative of how they are OOC. Keep these two worlds separated as much as you can and all will be well.I'll give a semi-recent example of how bleed through affected me in an RP situation. One of my characters attempted to murder another one on Clok. I was listening to chatter over Clok's esp or mind network, which is a crystal that the mummers and sorcerers came together to create. Anyway, I knew where this character would be, and things were escalating for a month or so between this character and my own (though it was my character who was the aggressor). I found him in the place I thought he'd be and hid and sneaked in. I fired an arrow which nearly killed him and ran. Now, that ended in my character's death, which I chose to mark as his retirement. The point I'm trying to make is, those actions were purely IC, and the person behind that character and myself did not create beef between us OOC because of IC actions. I hope that makes sense, because it's important. It's also worth noting that I was fully alert, in fighting mode, my heart was racing and I felt this warmth spread across my entire body. That's adrenaline and it's normal if you are doing something like that. You still have to try to make sure the things you're doing are because it would be something your character would do, and not something you would do.The last point I'd like to make is that you may reach a point in your rp where your character's motives, actions, goals and so forth drift from your expectations. That isn't a bad thing, as long as your character is still behaving in a way that fits with the story and the lore of the world you're in. If this happens to one of your characters, you can continue to play them and see where things go, or choose to end their story. This is what I did when I ended my character on Clok's story. he wasn't where I wanted him to be, and I tried through natural means to get him back on course, but he had other ideas. When that murder attempt failed, and the others tracked him down and killed him, I knew that would make a good stopping point for his story.

Re: Roleplay in Muds.

Hello there. Another mud that I would recommend very highly is one called clok mud. It's a roleplaying mud, but the staff there too is extremely relaxed and they know that not everyone is a master actor and they're only too willing to help you out with roleplaying and if you have any questions about the game mechanics or anything else you might need help with. The connection info for clok is clok.contrarium.net and the port number is 4000. I'm known as duggin on there, so if you stop by, look me up.

Re: Roleplay in Muds.

Hi there,Self promotion ahead! If you are a roleplaying newbie, Cosmic Rage is a great place to start. We hold regular roleplay classes, as well as provide encouragement for emoting, example emoting, and more, all wrapped in an expressive, in-depth world in which newbie helpers, htpl's and hosts alike are all willing to take time to teach you how to roleplay the best way you can.Our rpHelp category is stuffed full of nuggets of information about this very topic, all with the purpose of promoting you from an rp newbie to an rp expert. We've actually done this for many people, and a lot of CR players actually say that they have found it a good environment for growth. We also have an RP OOC channel, which you can ask questions on and get advice on roleplay plotlines. The staff of the game are relaxed, so if you make an honest doosey of a mistake, they won't snatch up the ban hammer and clobber you over the head with it, instead, if it is clearly an honest mistake, they might send you a notice, and in that  there will be advice on what you could have done better.CR also contains many features to help you get into the mind of your character including the ability to set a job role, rp points, rp nominations, optional profiles, an rp reward system of points, I.E, if you roleplay, you level up, and more.Information can be found at: https://cosmicrage.earthHope to see you soon

Roleplay in Muds.

Hi, so I’ve never tried roleplaying in muds before. I’ve stayed away from roleplay encouraged and enforced muds because I don’t know how to start roleplay. Also, I think I’m a terrible writer, though my teachers will disagree with me. Can someone provide me with a guide, or some tips on how to roleplay as a newbie?

That doesn't change the fact it's an RP MUD, and if you're there, you're expected to RP. If you want a grind fest, there's plenty.
