If it was all that simple. First, NVDA uses built in OCR in Windows 10, so there you have it. Same goes for narrator. Second, developing in python does not mean you do not need to pay to get your app signed. Third, making an alternative screen reader just isn't possible, because Apple.

You either learn to live with Skype 8 or switch to another VOIP platform. I've gotten used to Skype 8. It's a piece of crap, but if you want to use Skype, you'll have to use it. It's another case of Microsoft saying "We've changed our user interface, and we're not changing it back, so you better get used to it or take a hike!" *sigh*Alternatively, use Skype on iOS, Android, or even the Amazon Echo devices. Unfortunately, the current Echo implementation only allows for one on one calls and no text or video messaging.

Re: why developers should port their games to the Mac

The thing is, you want to have all your ducks in a row if you're running a business. If you're developing free games, I guess it doesn't matter. I'm not really up on mac, I've used it in a VM, but don't know a lot about it. But I think you still need that developer account to sign your apps. Even if you don't, if there's a work around, again, for free games, that's fine, people will be happy to mess with stuff to get a free product working. You really can't be doing that if you run a business though, not if you want a good reputation, and repeat customers when you put out a second, third and fourth product. You want the experience to be as easy as you can make it, and that means having your app signed. Even at that point, you can still distribute it, even outside the app store. That last, is the crowning achievement. So, my question is, if someone is developing a free game, why should it be incumbent on them to pay the developer fees and get literally nothing in return. What they could do, and I think if this happened, there would be a huge backlash over it, but they could put ads in the app like there are ads in many mainstream apps. So the issue is more complex than just porting a game over.

All menus are written down accept for the character selection screen and a few settings. Do you want that?2. Do you find the layout useful, or would you prefer an other layout?3. Should I create a new topic about those two games to make more people interested?4. Should I make two guides instead, one for classic 1 and an other for classic 2? Re: why developers should port their games to the Mac

I agree with Jack. Apple could honestly be doing much better with VoiceOver and macOS generally. The fact that the entire system has been neglected for years speaks volumes to Apple's lack of interest. They're more concerned with their Apple Music subscription, Iphone sales, Apple Watch sales, and iPad sales.MacOS is a great system with lots of advantages, but if they're not concerned with making it as great as it could be, I don't care anymore. The days of VoiceOver becoming a great screen reader appear to be gone. They haven't fixed longstanding issues in years, and they don't seem interested in VoiceOver or macOS innovation anymore. My next computer will not be a Mac, and this MacBook Air may soon run Windows 10 exclusively. You don't necessarily have to sign your macOS apps or put them in the App Store. The Mac App Store is a piece of crap due to Apple's restrictions and no one really uses it. Honestly, if you're going to develop for Apple platforms, develop for iOS. As much as I don't want to admit it, iOS is the future as far as the new Apple under Tim Cook is concerned. The less I say about Cook, the better, but suffice it to say that he took a really great company and royally fucked it up.

Re: Rethinking Accessibility In Space

Apparently a guy did go blind in space, at least once. Not while on break, or in a vehicle, but while conducting an EVA. Blind in space, not in a spaceship. And there were absolutely no negative consequences, and he recovered once he was back inside. (It turns out that tears don't work right in microgravity. So the 2001 Starchild was either a very happy giant space-baby, or should probably have had glued-shut eyes.)But yeah, if an astronaut without any experience as a blind person can still do their job when suddenly stricken blind, I'm not really sure how much there'd be to worry about. Maybe higher energy costs, since video is cheaper than audio or tactile.

2019-01-29 Thread AudioGames . net Forum — General Game Discussion : Dark via Audiogames-reflector

Re: why developers should port their games to the Mac

I'm finding this discussion interesting myself. I heavily considered getting a mac in 2015, since at the time I didn't like the look of windows 10 but manifestly could no longer go on using XP which I'd used for far longer than I should've done by that point. The chief reason I didn't in the end was basically that other than compatibility with my Iphone, I couldn't really see the advantage in a mac. I tried one out, and the Vo commands looked a bit complex, which admitedly I could've gotten used to, and the ways the operating system worked weren't obviously what I was familiar with, but again I could've got used to it, but ultimately my thought was "why?! should I? If I was going to be emulating Windows to play a huge baclog of audiogames, well why not use Windows anyway? And it wasn't as if I was a huge fan of  things like Itunes anyway. My basis for spending time and trouble on any technology has always been "What does it do!" Not some nebulous set of Superlatives. It doesn't matter if you tell me that computer x has  seventy thousand  hoojamaflops of giga maxity, or an all new squiggly wiggly processor, or that its more secure or more faster or more huggable. My question is always going to be "So what does it do!" Thus, the only time I considered Windows 10 worth while was when I started to run into stuff I couldn't do on Xp, the only time I bought an Iphone was when I heard about games and useful aps on it etc. This has always been my issue with a Mac. Where are the games and interesting applications and things to do that you can't do on Windows anyway? I don't mean to come across as a Mac hater, I am certainly not a microsoft or Ios fan boy, or a fan boy for any software company really, I'd just be interested to know, given this discussion and the fact that even regular mac users like Slj are using Windows to play games what the practical advantage of a mac is, especially given that Macs are generlly more expensive than Windows pcs.

Re: Narwhal - android desktop remote control

Chris, I meant using a GPT Win, or a compute stick with a keyboard, to control a powerful windows pc, offering very portable high performance computing and removing the need for a laptop. Since we're blind, why take a big screen with us? All we need is sound and a keyboard. Android latency is the only left thing bothering me, guess I need a pixel. Thanks for your appreciation. That's exactly what I thought when deciding to develop the app. Actually, Jack, posting Narwhal to play store is one of my ways of promoting Android. People always ask me why I don't use ios. Now, my app is the third argument, after the price and eloquence. I'm happy it now works for you. Indeed, I haven't noticed any crashes in the last days. This means either that no one uses the app, or that it doesn't crash. I learnt a lot from this experience, mainly that android phones are very different, and that testing should be done by users, not the developers of the app. I knew the last   one, but sadly ignored it.

My plan for the moment is just to play a bit and see where I personally struggle. The problem with scripting in advance of myself is that it becomes harder to figure out what's actually needed versus what we can do on our own. I can theoretically script an alternative way to do anything, but I won't know until I reach that point in the game proper whether it's actually required or not.Things might slow down a bit, but I'm more than happy to answer questions and take input from everybody else who's interested and willing to give this game a try.

Heck, I spent four times that amount on a quick lunch the other day at my favourite cafe. On that basis, so long as 2.5 euros worth of game entertains me for more than about half an hour I'd say I'm probably doing alright out of it, even if I have to pay the same 2.5 Euros each time for Episodes 2-7.

I’ve seen both systems of distributing experience in different games, both with advantages and disadvantages. Although I can’t promise anything, the suggestion of an option to select which type is used is a good suggestion. Again, thanks for the interest in the project and really pleased you’ve enjoyed the videos so far.The Ebon Sky Studios Teamemail: i...@ebonskystudios.comFacebook: https://m.facebook.com/ebonskystudios/Twitter: @ebonskystudios

Re: resident evil 2 remake, anyone interested?

i have another puzzle solution.warning, long explanation coming!at some point in the game, you have to open a portable safe. i'll paste here some lines from ign's walkthrough, the best i've found at the moment.Over in the corner, you’ll find a Portable Safe, along with a Portable Safe Instructions File. It seems you’ll need to press buttons to light up corresponding lamps in a certain order - but going out of order will require you to start over.Examine the object in your inventory to interact with the buttons. There’s no single way to start or end this puzzle, and unfortunately, the sequence is random each time you start the game - just pick a button and see where the others light up in correspondence and go from there. If you’re having trouble, get a pen and paper and start a 1 through 8 sequence next to the buttons to connect the dotssounds hard for us, right?. no! it's doable, i've solved it just a few minutes ago!.for this puzzle, you can imagine it like this: replace lights for numbers, or musical notes.each button as a light, but also, a different tone. if we use numbers for this exercise, then lets say that button 1 is the one with lower pitched tone, and button 8 is the one with higher pitched tone.the cursor doesn't wrap around.the layout of the buttons is as follows:1, 2.3, 4.5, 6.7, 8.to start, press a button. for example, 1. now, the light is turned on for that button. if you try to press 1 again, then nothing will happen.press another button. for example, 3. now, try to press 1 again. if you can press the button, then it means that button 3 was'nt the correct one in the sequence.if you press 1 but nothing happens, then button 3  was the next button in the sequence, now, you can't press neither 1 or 3, because the dots are connected correctly.lets asume button 3 was the correct button in the sequence. so, for now, the sequence is: 1, 3.try another button, for example 5. now, try to press 1 or 3. if they can be turned on, you know. the button you've selected was'nt the right one. so, pres 1, 3, and try another button.i think you get the idea, right?@seb or anyone else, if you compile this data someday for a guide or wathever, please explain it in a better way than i did, because english is native to you haha. in spanish, i could have explained it much simpler and better, but well... i think you got it.

Re: why developers should port their games to the Mac

Its also not that easy to develope an own open-source screen reader for a platform that doesn't support it, namely Mac OS. It is possible for Windows, since Windows provides several accessiblity hooks (UIA, IAccessible) where screen readers can hook in and grab loads of useful information. Since Apple built their own screen reader, they don't need such hooks anymore, because VoiceOver already is a great screen reader and the reason Microsoft added those APIs for accessibility was probably because they realized that some screen reading technology would be needed, but they themselves didn't have the time to add a proper screen reader into Windows themselves, and if you look at narrator, they didn't even yet succeeded in providing a competitor for the screen reader market yet, even though they're gettin better with it with each release.Best Regards.Hijacker

Re: why developers should port their games to the Mac

Hi.Regarding development: Nothing stops any developer to develop something for free in Python. That cost absolutely nothing, and it works fine on the mac. @Jack: If you want to compare VOiceover on the Mac with screenreaders on Windows, you should compare it with Narrator, and not NVDA or Jaws. Where do you have the OCR feature in NVDA?Nothing stops any developer to make a screenreader for Mac, like NVDA for Windows. I think the reason for people haven't done that yet is because they find Voiceover good enough.I agree that Apple needs to improve a lot of things in Voiceover on the mac. However, that especially goes for Tv OS and the Apple Watch as well. VOiceover on those devices are really left behind, big time.If people didn't liked VOiceover on the Mac, then they could just make an opensource screenreader, and then we can start to compare things in details.

19 says it all. Getting your app signed is the problem; developing for the Mac is perfectly free, but getting it signed and in the app store (where pretty much every apple user looks first for apps) is the very costly option. Of course you could market your game or product outside the app store, but you probably wouldn't get as much as you would if your app was in the app store. Its different on Windows and Linux where users are literally quite happy to search on the inerne and not in software centers or app stores for products. But on Mac, whenever you want to install an app, your told to always look in the app store first. And not very many people look beyond that. Some do, but not everyone.

S few questions. Is it possible to select an area of the map for the enemy band gto affect, example I want to have guards only be incountered on a certain part of a dungion. Second, will it be possible to make weapons have their own type of ammunation? Third, will you be able to make shops that you could select what items you want people to be able to buy? Fourth, will it be possible to make it so a player has to do something to be able to go to the next map, example, you have to defeat a goblin boss in order to get a key, thwemn you have to go to an adventurer and  tell him you found the key, then it would play a cut scene of the party leaving that area, or as an example with A Hero's call, you can't go into the forrest until yopu complete a certain quest.

Also, at least in Britain, 2.5 euros is hardly going to break the bank, it's roughly the price of a moderately expensive cup of coffee from somewhere  like Starbucks, or a cheap cup of coffee with some cake, but probably not a sandwich. Heck, I spent five times that amount on a quick lunch the other day. On that basis, so long as 2.5 euros worth of game entertains me for more than about half an hour I'd say I'm probably doing alright out of it .

Re: why developers should port their games to the Mac

I agree with Jack. Apple could honestly be doing much better with VoiceOver and macOS generally. The fact that the entire system has been neglected for years speaks volumes to Apple's lack of interest. They're more concerned with their Apple Music subscription, Iphone sales, Apple Watch sales, and the iPad.MacOS is a great system with lots of advantages, but if they're not concerned with making it as great as it could be, I don't care anymore. The days of VoiceOver becoming a great screen reader apppear to be gone. They haven't fixed longstanding issues in years, and they don't seem interested in VoiceOver innovations anymore. The less I say about Cook, the better, but suffice it to say that he took a really great company and fucked it up.

Just one small question. In the creation of the wolf, you set it to give 20 experience, though when you defeated it it only gave 5. Does this mean experience is split between party members? Also, a way to have split vs non split experience would be cool, as I'm not a huge fan of splitting experience personally, though that's just a small nitpick. This is looking better and better.

Re: Jenux OS, The "Next Jen!"

2019-01-29 Thread AudioGames . net Forum — Off-topic room : hacker via Audiogames-reflector

Re: Jenux OS, The "Next Jen!"

Hi, since the command to reread the partition table is run directly after the partitioning step, the partitions on the flash drive are not touched. To verify, run parted, fdisk/gdisk, or whatever partitioning tool you are most comfortable with. If the drive was touched, the partition layout, excluding size differences, would be the same on both the installed system and the flash drive. As for the squashfs error, this most likely indicates that the drive was either jostled during the installation, or powered off in some way, which will cause reading of sfs blocks to fail. To fix this problem, do one of the following:1: if using isolinux in csm mode, after the beep, hit tab, end, type a space, and type copytoram=y, hit enter. Once you hear speech, it should be safe to unplug the drive.2: Use the netboot script mentioned above to boot the target over the network, which does not require a flash drive, downloading the kernel, initramfs, and rootfs into the target's ram and running from there. Since the package download and installation is complete, you have a working system. To fix the unconfigured system problem, either manually follow the arch install guide after the install the base system section, or for automatic configuration, use the post-install tarball for your specific selected software preset, replacing /dev/sda with your hard drive, sda3 with whatever you made your root partition, and sda2 with whatever you made your boot partition. Here's how to do it:1: If using encryption, unlock your LUKS by typing:cryptsetup luksOpen /dev/sda3 rootIf not using encryption, replace step two's mount command with your root partition, i.e. instead of /dev/mapper/root, put /dev/sda32: mount your root partition:mount /dev/mapper/root /mnt3: mount your boot partition:mount /dev/sda2 /mnt/boot4: cd to /mnt, download and extract the post-installation tarball, replacing preset with your preset name, such as base, gnome, mate, kodi, or all, and run the script:cd /mntcurl https://nashcentral.duckdns.org/autobui … tar.gz|tar -xzarch-chroot /mnt /etc/postinstall.sh /dev/sdaHope this helps.

Re: Jenux OS, The "Next Jen!"

Is there a fix for my pi problem? To be clear, here's all what happened. It seems to restart  syncing packages databases again and again, with about 6 packages (core is up to date, Jenux is up to date, Alarm is up to date, Blackheart is up to date.) then all these package warnings/skipping warnings. Every time I interrupt with windows+i or any of the line review commands, it restarts back at syncing package databases. I waited a bit, then hit enter when it asked if I wanted to add another network, I said no, then it exited the script. All over now I suppose? Not really. It seems to have only downloaded about 4gb, when the Arch rootfs was clearly 14gb. I inserted the usb sound card into the pi, plus the wireless dongle for my k63, and I'm not hearing any speech. When I have the speaker plugged partially into the jack, amidst the buzzing I hear a voice that keeps shouting out stuff I can't make out, and the keyboard isn't doing anything.

Astronauts are trained to operate even when their sight is impaired, so there's not much value a blind astronaut can bring here that the sighted ones don't already do. on top of that, we'd need qualified people to be astronauts. In the US that means naval training. The fact that most of us in the blind community tap out at the first hint of challenges or lack of accessibility shows no promise in this area.

We shouldn't forget all the advantages Apple's system has.* Development fees keep the App Store clean in regard of ad-only apps, virus and more and stop hobby-hackers from providing you with an infected app* OS-provided VoiceOver integrates much better with the entire system than narrator or some 3rd party screen reader does, and to be honest, it will still take narrator many years until it gets even near VoiceOver* the drop of x86 support enables all new and old developers to access all future-proof functionalities provided by all new systems, and to be fair here, the switch from x86 to x64 doesn't need alot of work from the developer at all, most of the stuff gets done automatically by the IDE.Best Regards.Hijacker

Is the $20 per year Microsoft fee for the Windows Store? If so, I haven't noticed much adolption of that either. Just like the Mac Appp Store, the Windows Store is full ofgarbage and crap. No one uses it when just like on macOS, you can install traditional software from the developer's website. Sideloading third party applications on Android is also possible, so there are three platforms that don't rely on a central repository for obtaining software. This also means that developers get full compensation if they decide to sell content. If their apps were put into any of these stores, the respective owner of the store would take a cut from each sale. I know Apple does this, and I'm almost positive Microsoft and Google do as well.

The less I say about Cook, the better, but suffice it to say that he took a really great company and fucked it up.

Re: why developers should port their games to the Mac

Although it's a personal problem, Japanese support in OSX just sucks. I'm Japanese, so I obviously want to / need to write some Japanese. But once I start typing in Kanji, it starts to get super hyper ultra buggy.I doubt that the main developers in the US are aware of such a regional issue, which is honestly sad, because OSX itself is a great and stable platform. I was sayin that I wanted to work at Apple to fix the issues, but there was no such a job in Japan, and even if I assumed moving to the US, the voiceover engineer details said "more than x years of experience using voiceover API" as one of the requirements. I thought like meh then.

Re: Bokurano Daibouken 3 : secondary topic

Someone might be misinterpreting that they need to press the spacebar like crazy in a single gameplay, but it's actually not true. The game counts the total number of spacebar presses since the save data creation, so, if you complete the game twice or whatever, it's very likely that you had pressed spacebar 12 times. Oh, that might be usable to explain how much the game is spacebar masher and how much the game is bad for your computer's spacebar's health.

Moritz, You can save the game whenever you're docked by pressing shift+S, and then select a save slot with enter. If you pick one already used, you'll be asked if you want to overwrite it. Just press enter on the top option, which is "yes." PAUSE is shift+p in space.Hope this helps.

For the OCR command I more meant that the engine is there. The way it works is by using the image description command when focused on an image and most times it will bring the text in the image as well. The image description command is narrator plus ctrl plus d

Re: NVDA Voices

If you go to http://accessibilitycentral.net/NVDA%20addons.html there is a specific section on voices. I'm afraid though when I experimented with a lot of those on that site I found the same thing, either the better voices like Narrator or Sapi came with a delay, or the voices sounded pretty horrible, so in the end I just paid the money to use the vocaliser addon with the realspeak voices instead. Still, hope you find something you can work with.

I would be careful with any hacked version of Skype. I certainly don't think the person who posted that meant any ill intent, but maybe try sandboxing it first before just diving in and typing your account info. The fact that it's being hosted on Dropbox is a red flag to me, if this was something even semi-official, it would have a project website of its own.

For me it saves the project in the right directory but the actual files involved in the project are saving in Reaper media still.  I've re-directed everything to different folders, so not sure why it's still saving my .wav files in reaper media and the .rpp in the project folder I specify.  Do you need to go to the projects tab and set the first and secondary sources for each project?

Re: why developers should port their games to the Mac

Thisis interesting. I've always heard that gaming on the Mac wasn't exactly a piece of cake, but had no idea of the specifics. For those of you who pointed to Narrator improvements, I can tel you that Narrator does indeed support Chrome on the latest insider preview builds. Andno, I don't think it'll take years for Narrator to catch up with VoiceOver. If Microsoft continues to develop Narrator at the current rate, I'd say that we should see a fully fleshed out screen reader experience from Narrator by this time next year at least. BTW, does anyone know the OCR command for Narrator? Don't think it's the same as the NVDA command.

Re: Seeking Input on New Additions to the Staff Team

@aaronThanks for the response. If I'm reading you here, the team of 3 semiactive admins is perfectly fine for now. No real reason to consider making changes this second even though your December update saw mods mentioning starting out in january a grand total of three times, a matter which was agreed upon by everyone. I'm not asking for full out panic or hastily made decisions, but you really haven't given a viable reason for continuing to hold off and wait yet again. Rushing is counterproductive, but so is procrastination. Reading between the lines, I don't see any hint of incentive. Are their no longer openings for the position? I'm merely curious and wishing to see headway. I don't for a minute believe the calming down is reason to discard many good points made here. Example, our old and rather broad rules are still seen as law of the land, for new and existing members alike.
