[AZORES-Genealogy] 3X great grandfather's baptismo record - Antonio de Mello

2014-03-20 Thread Paul
The link below is for my GGG grandfather Antonio de Mello's baptismo record
(lower right corner). I believe the year is somewhere between 1805 1810,
probably closer to 1808 since that was the last year noted at the top of
one page. Father - Manoel de Mello, mother - Maria da Silva. Since the
record is at the bottom the writing gets scrunched and I was unable to
figure out if his grandparents were listed.

Thanks for any help.

[AZORES-Genealogy] Re: 3X great grandfather's baptismo record - Antonio de Mello

2014-03-20 Thread Aaron Pereira

  Hello Paul,

There is no grandparents listed, the birth date is April 21, 1805, and
baptized on April 28th. But, the godparent is Tomas de Mello, son of
Francisco de Mello JaPateiro (excuse me if I got the extra surname wrong,
I'm sure you know the correct spelling) and Margarida da Silva. I can tell
you the grandparents are not listed but maybe another lister can better
translate the document for you. Because the related surnames of the parents
of Antonio and the godparent and his family, I think it's safe to say
they're related. Something to look into.

here is the direct link to the baptism record http://goo.gl/oIAke6

Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] Re: Name of the mother of Joao

2014-03-20 Thread Aaron Pereira

  Hello Maria,

Glad I could help. No, I do not have an index nor are they in my family
tree. I do have Resendes in my family tree from Achada.
It's not difficult to find related records (baptism) of children from the
same parents. Once you find one, you can usually locate the others fairly
quickly; provided the parents did not move to another parish.

Were you able to locate Jose's marriage to Miguelina?

I noticed the priest didn't include Luis' parents but they are in the
other records. How on earth did you find these so quickly. It takes me a
long time going page by page. Was there an index or do u have these people
in your tree? I noticed the Resende name is in your email.

Jose Correa Pimentel. His grandma was a Pimentel and his great grandma was
a Correa. I've also seen inter-change of names with Silva-Brandoa
(Nordestinho), Simas-Resendes (Achada), and Pimentel-Resendes (Achada). In
most of these cases, they were simply using either the father or mothers
surname. In the case of Jose de Faria, it took a little extra work and
going back in the family tree to figure it out.

As for the pais incognito, a DNA test could help elucidate your husband's
 pedigree.

As for the mother of Jose (the son), I can't make it out. I tried looking
for Joze de Almeida and ? da Conceicao's marriage record but I couldn't
find it. I looked in Sao Sebastiao and Agua Retorta

Here is Jose's baptism (father), left hand side; take a look at his
maternal grandparents surnames. I think it agrees with your original
assumptions and findings regarding Jose and Luis de Almeida. Good work!

However, I came across this record where the names of the grandparents

Can anyone help me out with the name of the mother of the baby in this
record, please? The best I could make out was Jesnivea de Concinco(?). I

There's several coincidences: both men came from the same parish; both
men have a father with the same name and a mother with the same first name

Hi Terry
I think we have two different Jacinta's. My ancestor is Jacinta Emilia
Soares married to Antonio Ambrosio de Araujo. They had 11 children born in
Agua d'Alto. I have never seen the name Sentinella in any records but I
will go back again and check through what I have (just in case) I don't
have her death record because it wouldn't be available online (circa 1942)
. Funny though how two people with almost the exact same name were born in
the same place and died in the same place. Maybe there is a connection
somewhere along the lines.

Hi Linda

What is your relation to Roque Rodrigues and Rosa Jacintha?

On Saturday, October 2, 2010 11:18:19 PM UTC-4, Linda Norton wrote:

I'm glad Elizabeth you gave your info since I didn't have it and you
know as we discussed that I have Manuel de Almeida de Andrade Rodrigues
from Sao Roque as my ggrandfather b. abt. 1855. Also his daugther, my
grandmother Maria do Espirito Santo de Andrade b. 1884 always carrying her
name as de Andrade so my mother always said. I never heard my mother say de
Almeida or even Rodrigues. She has listed on her marriage certificate she
 is from Ariffes.

Manuel was married to Maria da Gloria from Faja de Baixo. They had four
children: Odelia, Anton, my grandmother and Elise. Odelia married and went
to Canada with two children, Anton never married (spent all the money given
to him) and my grandmother and Elise had 17 children between the both of
them, but 10 of them died. Supposedly my ggrandfather was very wealthy. I
think it was a mill that he owned because some of what was left (equipment)
went to my grandmother and probably the other sisters as a dowry. I just
remember my mother telling me that her nephew who still lives in Ribeira
Grande sold off the last of everything back in the 80's/90's and my mom
told him to keep the money. She said it didn't add up to much supposedly.
That's all I know about her maternal side.

I will have to get certificates and see what I can find out. I know that
Celeste helped me when she went there in 07 and found quite a few Manuel
Rodrigues. The only one that was close was Manuel and Marie (twins) March
7, 1896. Manuel de Almeida and Maria Jacintha. Paternal Jose de Almeida and
Maria Joaquina; Maternal Roque Rodrigues and Rosa Jacintha. Close because
it's the only one I saw de Almeida and Rodrigues together. Again this was
 from Sao Roque.

Maybe someone may pick up something from this info and help us out.

Aaron; I have not searched for the marriage of Jose D'Almeida and Miguelina De

book with names for more of their children so today I'll follow up on them and
see when they started having children but I need to find my husband's great
grandparents- the Luis and Luiza couple. I'm HOPING I can find Luiza's
lineage. She used the name Luiza de Jesus CORREA. So I'm wondering where the
CORREA came from but maybe the marriage record will give a clue.

Aaron, do you use familysearch.org to enter your names? I'm thinking that I

RE: [AZORES-Genealogy] Re: Name of the mother of Joao

2014-03-20 Thread Diane George
You may also want to look at Legacy at http://legacyfamilytree.com. It allows
you to link to your FamilySearch Family Tree and download (or upload)
information) from and to your Family Tree online. You choose what data you want
to include (sort of like FamilyTreeMaker and Ancestry). You can download a free
version (without the FS FamilyTree integration) to see if you like how it
handles your data before purchasing the full program for about $29.95. There
are several options available that include manuals and other products. You can
decide if you want to synchronize your data between the two-I don’t because of
other people making changes on the tree.

Hi Cheri, Sometime back JR, and I shared a circumstance where the

my research, I didn't think much about it - however, in this second

out that I wasn't drawing a conclusion on the reason for anonymity, but,
merely making an observation. Living in these more liberal times, we

I just got back to doing some genealogy and recently discovered that PAF is

Thanks,

Maria Elena, since you now have a criteria for your genealogy program (you
like it in the cloud and being able to access it from anywhere), look into
 RootsMagic.

 http://www.rootsmagic.com/

The PAID version of RootsMagic (RM) has their RootsMagic To-Go feature.
 Their Web site says:

Take RootsMagic with you wherever you go! RootsMagic To-Go allows you to
copy the RootsMagic program and your data onto any simple USB flash drive
or removable drive. Take the drive to a computer, plug it in, and run
 RootsMagic directly from it.

It literally runs off your flash/USB/thumb/travel drive! So you can
always have your genealogy with you.

In addition, RootsMagic has a section on their site about PAF users
switching over. They are one of the sponsors for the Azores Genealogy
Conference, too. Bruce Buzbee, owner, donated a full, paid copy of RM as a
 door prize!

Hi, I'm new to this group as well as genealogy. I'm trying to research my
family that came from the Azores to Hawaii Island. I did find my great
great grandparents on the Bell Rock ships manifest. Their names were Manoel
Teixeira and Maria Da Estrella. They traveled with three children (Jose

grand uncle's notes, it says they were from Ribeira Grande. I'm not sure if
that's correct since I don't have any proof. My grand uncle started this

2014-03-20 Thread Richard Francis Pimentel
That would mean he was born about 1843 and married around 1872. Those dates
fall in the dead zone for the records I have. I would start looking at the
marriage records of NS Estrela in Ribeira Grande for the marriage of Manoel and
Maria. The records for Ribeira Grand are not on line yet. In the mean time you
could order the film at the FHC near you but the records when they are put on
line are easier to use than the micro films.

I can definitely say that the marriage is not in Ribeirinha as I have all the
marriages from there.

Joseph, I neglected to mention that I didn't see Joam's mother listed in the record (which is somewhat odd). As for the Grandparents, they weren't listed in the early records. I'm not sure, but, Ibelieve they weren't added until the early, or, mid 1800's'.Possibly Cheri, Doug, or JR can chime in.
