[AZORES-Genealogy] 3X great grandfather's baptismo record - Antonio de Mello
The link below is for my GGG grandfather Antonio de Mello's baptismo record (lower right corner). I believe the year is somewhere between 1805 1810, probably closer to 1808 since that was the last year noted at the top of one page. Father - Manoel de Mello, mother - Maria da Silva. Since the record is at the bottom the writing gets scrunched and I was unable to figure out if his grandparents were listed. http://culturacores.azores.gov.pt/biblioteca_digital/SMG-PV-AGUARETORTA-B-1793-1818/SMG-PV-AGUARETORTA-B-1793-1818_item1/SMG-PV-AGUARETORTA-B-1793-1818_JPG/SMG-PV-AGUARETORTA-B-1793-1818_0085.jpg Thanks for any help. [AZORES-Genealogy] Re: 3X great grandfather's baptismo record - Antonio de Mello
Hello Paul, There is no grandparents listed, the birth date is April 21, 1805, and baptized on April 28th. But, the godparent is Tomas de Mello, son of Francisco de Mello JaPateiro (excuse me if I got the extra surname wrong, I'm sure you know the correct spelling) and Margarida da Silva. I can tell you the grandparents are not listed but maybe another lister can better translate the document for you. Because the related surnames of the parents of Antonio and the godparent and his family, I think it's safe to say they're related. Something to look into. here is the direct link to the baptism record http://goo.gl/oIAke6 On Wednesday, March 19, 2014 11:29:49 PM UTC-7, Paul wrote: The link below is for my GGG grandfather Antonio de Mello's baptismo record (lower right corner). Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] Re: Searching for Jacinta Emilia Soares in Ribeira Cha, Sao Miguel, Azores
Hi Terry I think we have two different Jacinta's. My ancestor is Jacinta Emilia Soares married to Antonio Ambrosio de Araujo. They had 11 children born in Agua d'Alto. I have never seen the name Sentinella in any records but I will go back again and check through what I have (just in case) I don't have her death record because it wouldn't be available online (circa 1942) . Funny though how two people with almost the exact same name were born in the same place and died in the same place. Maybe there is a connection somewhere along the lines. Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] Searching for D'Andrade in Sao Miguel
Hi Linda What is your relation to Roque Rodrigues and Rosa Jacintha? On Saturday, October 2, 2010 11:18:19 PM UTC-4, Linda Norton wrote: I'm glad Elizabeth you gave your info since I didn't have it and you know as we discussed that I have Manuel de Almeida de Andrade Rodrigues from Sao Roque as my ggrandfather b. abt. 1855. Also his daugther, my grandmother Maria do Espirito Santo de Andrade b. 1884 always carrying her name as de Andrade so my mother always said. I never heard my mother say de Almeida or even Rodrigues. She has listed on her marriage certificate she is from Ariffes. Manuel was married to Maria da Gloria from Faja de Baixo. They had four children: Odelia, Anton, my grandmother and Elise. Odelia married and went to Canada with two children, Anton never married (spent all the money given to him) and my grandmother and Elise had 17 children between the both of them, but 10 of them died. Supposedly my ggrandfather was very wealthy. I think it was a mill that he owned because some of what was left (equipment) went to my grandmother and probably the other sisters as a dowry. I just remember my mother telling me that her nephew who still lives in Ribeira Grande sold off the last of everything back in the 80's/90's and my mom told him to keep the money. She said it didn't add up to much supposedly. That's all I know about her maternal side. I will have to get certificates and see what I can find out. I know that Celeste helped me when she went there in 07 and found quite a few Manuel Rodrigues. The only one that was close was Manuel and Marie (twins) March 7, 1896. Manuel de Almeida and Maria Jacintha. Paternal Jose de Almeida and Maria Joaquina; Maternal Roque Rodrigues and Rosa Jacintha. Close because it's the only one I saw de Almeida and Rodrigues together. I'm HOPING I can find Luiza's lineage. She used the name Luiza de Jesus CORREA. So I'm wondering where the CORREA came from but maybe the marriage record will give a clue. Aaron, do you use familysearch.org to enter your names? I'm thinking that I need to get a program in addition to the Family search Family Tree because I'm getting more and more names. I'm LDS and like using the family tree because (like I learned from Cheri Mello) that program is in the cloud so I can access it from anywhere. RE: [AZORES-Genealogy] Re: Name of the mother of Joao
You may also want to look at Legacy at http://legacyfamilytree.com. It allows you to link to your FamilySearch Family Tree and download (or upload) information) from and to your Family Tree online. You choose what data you want to include (sort of like FamilyTreeMaker and Ancestry). You can download a free version (without the FS FamilyTree integration) to see if you like how it handles your data before purchasing the full program for about $29.95. There are several options available that include manuals and other products. You can decide if you want to synchronize your data between the two-I don’t because of other people making changes on the tree. Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] Name of the mother of Joao
Hi Cheri, Sometime back JR, and I shared a circumstance where the Grandparents were incognito. Since the person was not someone critical to my research, I didn't think much about it - however, in this second instance, I thought it might be worthy of mention. You correctly pointed out that I wasn't drawing a conclusion on the reason for anonymity, but, merely making an observation. Living in these more liberal times, we sometimes forget how restrictive the rules were for many of our ancestors. Joseph, This is indeed difficult to read, but not impossible. Joam's name is mentioned at the beginning legitimate (abbrv) son of Mathias da Costa native of this freguesia of Sam Miguel of Villa Franca do Campo nasceo (was born) on the 4th day of the month of September 1751, and, was baptized in this same church of Sam Miguel, matriz of the aforementioned Villa, parish of his parents on the sixth day of the current month and year by me, Maoel de Medeiros , Curate of this matriz. RE: [AZORES-Genealogy] Re: Texeira from Ribeira Grande, Sao Miguel island to Hawaii
That would mean he was born about 1843 and married around 1872. Those dates fall in the dead zone for the records I have. I would start looking at the marriage records of NS Estrela in Ribeira Grande for the marriage of Manoel and Maria. The records for Ribeira Grand are not on line yet. In the mean time you could order the film at the FHC near you but the records when they are put on line are easier to use than the micro films. I can definitely say that the marriage is not in Ribeirinha as I have all the marriages from there. RE: [AZORES-Genealogy] Re: Texeira from Ribeira Grande, Sao Miguel island to Hawaii
Hi Richard, The only information I have is what my grand uncle had found on his own and the other information I located from my great grandfather: his name was Jose but then it changed to Joseph Texeira. His birth date was September 23, 1877 or at least that's what is own his grave. The only other information about Maria da Estrella is that she died in April 1927 and was buried at the Kurtistown Catholic Cemetery but there are no markers. The cemetery has fallen apart. Thank you for your help. FHC = Family History Center. They are located at many of the Churches of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (LDS) or Mormons. They are open to the public. You do not need to be LDS to use them. RE: [AZORES-Genealogy] Re: Joam da Costa (Might be his birth record -- can't really read it) Help!
The only guarantee the grandparents were listed was on 1 July 1860 forward. But many started before that. Sometimes even the latter 1700s.On Madeira, it is normal to list them in the 1700s, even for marriages. And I have seen that on the mainland, too.Doug da Rocha HolmesSacramento, CaliforniaPico Terceira Genealogist916-550-1618www.dholmes.com Original Message Subject: [AZORES-Genealogy] Re: Joam da Costa (Might be his birth record -- can't really read it) Help! From: Dano dpai...@gmail.com Date: Thu, March 20, 2014 3:39 pm To: azores@googlegroups.com Joseph, I neglected to mention that I didn't see Joam's mother listed in the record (which is somewhat odd). As for the Grandparents, they weren't listed in the early records. I'm not sure, but, Ibelieve they weren't added until the early, or, mid 1800's'.Possibly Cheri, Doug, or JR can chime in. -- For options, such as changing to List, Digest, Abridged, or No Mail (vacation) mode, log into your Google account and visit this group at http://groups.google.com/group/Azores. Thank you Cheri. I will definitely look into it tomorrow. I know I visited our local LDS many years ago but all of their records were destroyed in a fire. I will see if they can direct me to another center. On Friday, March 21, 2014 1:21:10 AM UTC-3, Cheri Mello wrote: FHC = Family History Center. Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] Genealogy Software Program
I went from using PAF5 to RootsMagic without a problem. There are some minor quirks to get used to. I had no problem uploading my GEDCOM (or whatever it's called) to RootMagic. After uploading, RootsMagic checks for duplicate records (at least it did for me) just be carefull and doulbe check what it is showing you. The only thing I would like to see them change is when you go to print a family group report that you can print a descendant family group report like PAF, not one family at a time. Paul G.
