Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] Trying to trace down Dona Antonia Baptism record

2017-01-05 Thread LouieLouieOhOh
Cheri and Linda,
Thanks very much!

I did find her first marriage ... Jose Joaquim De Avila in 1849. So I
figured she was probably older than 16 ... so I'm looking through every
baptism in Fontinhas before 1833.

I did find an Antonio in 1830 ...

Getting some rest now ... too late for me.

2017-01-05 Thread Cheri Mello
Two functions are there Liz and you've blurred them together.

You can do "In Common With" (or "Not In Common With") only 1 other person.

You can do the Chromosome Browser with 5 people.

Back to "In Common With"You can kind of get around it by using the
Matrix:

Joe Mendonca can tell you how to use it if you can't figure it out. Right
now, I'm working on the logistics of that video and just trying to keep up
with the DNA results that are rolling in! Yay!!

Bride's mom...Maria Gil, both parents deceased.

As for which of the groom's parents are deceased...It's supposed to be
AFTER the name, unless both are deceased, then it's after her name and has
"defunctos" with the S. Your record? Three words: Too much vinho.
Seriously though, I'm not sure what he meant. Look for a sibling of the
groom getting married to figure it out.

[AZORES-Genealogy] Name Abbreviation on Marriage Record

2017-01-05 Thread 'Jeremy G. B-C' via Azores Genealogy
Hello!

I just unearthed the marriage record of one set of ancestors of mine. It
is fairly neat writing and I don't have much trouble deciphering most of it.

I can make out that on November 27th 1779, Antonio de Quadros son of Antao
Pereira de Quadros and Maria Ascencao (deasesed) married to Anna Pereira de
Borba daughter of Simao Pereira de Cunha (deceased) and Maria (deceased).

I *am* however having trouble making out Anna (the bride's) mother's last
name Gil? It looks like an abreviation for something whatever it is
I am certiain I am misreading it. If anyone has any thoughts on it please
let me know!

The only other thing I would like to verify is that the grooms mother is
deceased, not the grooms father. I usually see defuncto after the parents
names, but in this case it is before her name am I correct that she is
the one that is deceased, and that Antao is living?

Thank you very much!

[AZORES-Genealogy] Re: Trying to trace down Dona Antonia Baptism record

2017-01-05 Thread linda
Hi Louie,

The family trees of most of the notable families of Terceira are in this
book:

https://familysearch.org/search/catalog/1975099?availability=Family%20History%20Library

You won't be able to view it from home, but if you can go into an LDS
Family History center, you can view-- and search-- the books on their
computers. I understand that some centers will also allow you to download
the volumes, so take a large capacity memory stick with you just in case.
Worst case scenario: you can print out the relevant pages for a nominal
charge (I did this-- well worth it).

There are errors, so you still have to follow the paper trail to verify
it. But dates are included, and the info from the books really cuts down
on record slogging. I wish I'd know about it a little earlier.

good luck with your research!

:)

Linda

2017-01-05 Thread 'Jeremy G. B-C' via Azores Genealogy
I am HIGHLY Skeptical that you have the right passenger list.

Have you tken a look at this???

http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr=155211263=acom

No name change if this is the person listed on passanger list. No idea I
didnt make sure, but same unusual name...

You need to go back to the beginning and analyze every reord under the
changed name first, so you have more stuff to verify more information.

You are right. Unfortunately 1902 and 1903 records are not available. It is
important for you to get the basic birth and marriage for your GP and GGP
to ensure you have the right base to start your research as recommended by
Cheri Melo in other emails.

By the way the name is Secio in the masculine sense, not Secia, feminine.

Hi Margaret,

I think Manuel Jr age is 11 months not 11 years. It would match his DOB of
Manuel
Jr - May 25, 1903, if he left in May of 1904.

Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] Re: Trying to trace the last name Secia in the Azores

2017-01-05 Thread Margaret Vicente
Hi Kim,

I'm trying to help, however based on the birth year 1878 for Manuel Cecis
(Ancestry Celio) Fonseca sailing on the ship Vancouver in 1903, bringing
him to be 25 years old. Does the manifest state if he is married? Why I'm
asking is because the 1904 Maria Bento M. Fonseca is 35 years old with an
11 year old child, which translate to Manuel being a father at 15 years of
age, and married around 14 years of age, very unlikely. I think you're
looking at 2 different families.

I did find the birth record for the Manuel born in Faial da Terra on the
2nd of September 1878. Here's the link, record # 34 right page.

http://culturacores.azores.gov.pt/biblioteca_digital/SMG-PV-FAIALDATERRA-B-1870-1879/SMG-PV-FAIALDATERRA-B-1870-1879_item1/P235.html

I also found a Manuel Secio da Fonseca, single, godfather to a child by the
name of Manuel, born to Maria Secio da Fonseca, presuming this is his
sister's baby. # 26 left page.
http://culturacores.azores.gov.pt/biblioteca_digital/SMG-PV-FAIALDATERRA-B-1890-1899/SMG-PV-FAIALDATERRA-B-1890-1899_item1/P136.html

Further to this and Elaine finding the birth record for the passports
Maria. I checked through the records and did not find the birth record for
Manuel, the child and Maria born in 1903, nor the marriage record for such
couple.

Unfortunately the passport for Maria Bento de Melo and children does not
show the childrens' father's name. I checked twice and did not find Manuel
Cecio da Fonseca marriage within the given dates or outside of these time
frames.

Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] Re: Freitas Mendonca Flores ancestors

2017-01-05 Thread Kawika322
Hi Wendy,

from my maternal grandfather's paternal line I have a Joao Antonio de Freitas
Mendonca from Lajes on Flores. He was born 1812 and died 1868.

His parents were Manuel de Freitas Mendonca, born 1785 Fajazinha, Flores and
died 1853. His wife was Maria de Sao Jose.

Manuel's parents were Jose Mendonca, born 1757 in Fajazinha, Flores, and died
1807, and Ana de Freitas, born 1766 in Fajazinha, Flores.

This is where the Mendonca line switches to the Island of Corvo. Jose
Mendonca's parents were Antonio de Mendonca, born 1727 on Corvo and died 1786
in Fajazinha, Flores, and Francisca Roiz, born 1731 in Fajazinha,Flores.

Ana de Freitas (wife of Jose Mendonca) parents were Francisco Jose and
Esperanca de Freitas, both from Fajazinha, Flores.

Do you have any of these names in your tree? Also, does your Mendonca or
Freitas line link to the Island of Corvo?

I believe the furthest I could go back on the Mendonca line was with Gaspar de
Mendonca, born abt 1630 in Corvo and died 1689 in Corvo, and his wife Barbara
Roiz, born abt 1640 in Corvo and died 1692 in Corvo.

Thanks,

David
