Hello all;  Would really appreciate some help here.  Is it Albino Jose de

2016-07-19 Thread Margaret Vicente
Please see my take in red below. There no dates. The record date is
partially faded but my guess is that is Cinco/five. Also please take note
of the Bride's father "rank".

That they were married on *5* March 1734.

His parents: Joao Silveira Machado and Catarina Dias *de* Sousa

Maria’s parents: Sargento-Maior (Sargent-Major) Antonio *de Azevedo*
Teixeira and Francisca Machado?

I found a record that might be my 8th gen ancestor and need help deciphering
the father's name.

Here is the link:

http://culturacores.azores.gov.pt/biblioteca_digital/SMG-LG-AGUADEPAU-B-1692-1700/SMG-LG-AGUADEPAU-B-1692-1700_item1/P16.html

The record is on the right and is #181 which is for a "Domingos" who is son of
Joam Perdigam(Perdigao) ? I can't make out the word after Perdigam. The
mother is Maria Vieyra (Vieira).

RE: [AZORES-Genealogy] Help reading record

2016-04-29 Thread Erica Botelho
I think it looks like “borra”. Google translate says that can mean grout. Maybe
he was a mason and that was his nickname? Hopefully someone more experienced
has a better idea.

Subject: [AZORES-Genealogy] Help reading record

I found a record that might be my 8th gen ancestor and need help deciphering
the father's name.

Here is the link:

http://culturacores.azores.gov.pt/biblioteca_digital/SMG-LG-AGUADEPAU-B-1692-1700/SMG-LG-AGUADEPAU-B-1692-1700_item1/P16.html

The record is on the right and is #181 which is for a "Domingos" who is son of
Joam Perdigam(Perdigao) ? I can't make out the word after Perdigam. The
mother is Maria Vieyra (Vieira).

2016-02-23 Thread JR
Ok, as long as you are certain it is Catarina and not Conceicao. What
baptism do you have that matches the parents you have. I have never quite
seen anything like this, so many similar names!

There is this record, just as difficult:

Manuel Dutra de Andrade filho de Inacio? Dutra de Andrade cc __ de Andrade?
filha de __ Pereira and _ _?, June 14- 1754? illegible

Yes, I've been searching for the marriage for Manuel Dutra da Rosa, who
died 4 July 1774, and Catarina, who died 12 Jan 1769, find out who
Catarinas parents are. I was hoping the record in question matched...but
maybe not. I will keep at it. I don't give up😉

Thanks!

2016-02-22 Thread JR
OK, I think I have figured out what the record says, at least in essence:

Sargento Mel Dutra da Roza Vo. (Viuvo), filho de Joze Gra Moutozo e de sua
mer Ma? Dutra? com Con.ca da Roza fa Fco da Roza e sua mer Ma? da Roza
todos nes desta Va. e honde o contrahentes baptizados e ...? foram
dispensados em 3 grao de consanguindade...

And this couple has a child born here:

http://culturacores.azores.gov.pt/biblioteca_digital/FAL-HT-CAPELO-B-1706-1760/FAL-HT-CAPELO-B-1706-1760_item1/P210.html

25-12-1758, bap- 28th, Pad- Anto Dutra de Andrade e Ma da Roza fa de Fco da
Roza tia de baptizado nas e mres da dita freg.

So unless there is another couple with these names, such as Catarina Roza
instead of Conceicao Roza, then these are the same couple that married in
1757, in this record:

and it is why I said, what looks like Cna is Conceicao. And mad., Maria da
Roza, is aunt of the baby, likely sister of Conceicao. Antonio Andrade may
be brother of Manoel, the father.

If you ask me it looks like Fco da Roza e sua mer. Ma. da Roza. Because at

Have seen any people with these names before, or even alternates, meaning

I am somewhat confused. You mean his name is not Jose Dutra Andrade? cc
Catarina da Rosa? Is it Manuel Dutra Roza?

Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] Help reading record

2016-02-22 Thread Becky Mendonca
Thank you JR. I do have 3 of their children, but none list grandparents...I
have Manuel Dutra da Rosa's parents, but not Catarina's. I have looked for
Catarinas baptismal record, but can't be sure which one is hers unless I
can match it to her marriage record...so on this one, I am going in
circles, lol...I have a possible death record which lists Manuel as her
husband, and approx age when she passed, but the are several Catarinas
during her approximate birth time. That's why I hoped someone would be able
to glean more from the marriage record to confirm her parents names.
Thank you for all the suggestions!

Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] Help reading record

2016-02-22 Thread linda
Hi Becky,

Welcome to the group! I'm really impressed by your self-taught skills.

This is a really challenging record given it's low resolution and damage.
Having stared at it for a while, I don't think I see anything more than
you. But, I have a couple of thoughts. First a guess: I wonder if the
groom's name might be Antonio? Second, for the father of the groom, I
wonder if instead of "Jose G?? ja defunto" it says "Jose G?? [descending
letter from line above] Mouto" ?

Others in the group can probably tease out more info-- and, perhaps the LDS
microfilms might show more detail?

hope that's helpful,

Linda

Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] Help reading record

2016-02-21 Thread 'Susan Murphy' via Azores Genealogy
Hello Becky,

I think your husband’s birth family may connect with a family that I have
entered in my genealogy program as my uncle by marriage was an Anthony DeValle
whose father (married to my mother’s sister), Jose Inacio DeValle was from
Castelo Branco. He is not your Jose as he was born in 1871 but the family
probably connects and I have his line worked back. If you are interested, why
don’t you send me more of what you have on this Valle line. Where did these
people settle in California? My uncle’s family lived in Washington Township,
Alameda County, CA……some lived in the Newark area.
You can email me separately at uberlin...@aol.com
I am having a cousin reunion this weekend but will get back to you eventually:)

Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] Help reading record

2016-02-21 Thread Cheri Mello
I don't see a question here. You talk about your husband being raised by
another family and you mention the mid-1800s. Then you post a record from
the mid 1700s. Somehow you are able to make your way back 250 years, but I
am not clear as to what you can and cannot read. You must be able to read a
lot to be back to the mid 1700s. What do you need help reading?

[AZORES-Genealogy] Help reading record

2016-02-21 Thread Becky M.
Hi all,

This is my first post here and I love following all your postsI am
Becky Mendonca, researching my husband John Mendonca's birth family tree.
(He was adopted by a Mendonca family also from Azores- Sao Miguel island)
but his maternal birth family is from Faial, His Birth gmother was Rose
Marie Valle of Calif, dtr of Louisa Augusta Silva 1868-1951, and Joseph
Ignacio Valle 1865-1934, both born in Castelo Branco, Faial. I am
researching the names Valle, da Silva, da Rosa, Fialho-in the parishes of
Castelo Branco and Capelo. I believe this marriage record is of Manuel
Dutra da Rosa (D- 4 Jul 1774 in Capelo) my husbands 5x ggfather, and
Catarina (1729-1769 of Capelo) my husbands 5x ggmother. Any help reading
this would be much appreciated as it is in poor condition. The date of
marriage seems to read 9 May 1757. It is the first full record top left
side-

[AZORES-Genealogy] Help reading record

2016-01-26 Thread Barb Davis
Hi all! I am researching family from Doze Ribeiros who were married in
1701. I am trying to figure out if this marriage record states where the
families were from before coming to Doze Ribeiros. On line 6 (starting at
the top of the page) I see the name Beatriz Goncalves and then I need help
with the rest of the line and continuing to the end, which is line 11.
 Thanks in advance!
