Re: [BVARC] Logbook of the world has stopped working

I am going to send screen shots to the ARRL. I may have a problem inside my
computer. I had a friend on the phone with me and he could not even fix the
problem. I will see if the ARRL can fix this.

[BVARC] Logbook of the world has stopped working

2021-09-25 Thread Martin Blaise via BVARC
I can no longer sign and upload any files to LOTW. I get this message: There
are no current callsign certificates for callsign AG5T. This station
location cannot be used to sign a log file.

The only thing I did was download the newest version of TQSL. I was already
sent certificates via email. But now everything has stopped working. Any
help or can you to tell me who to contact at ARRL?

Do not mean to be so negative, but I have had much difficulty in using the
LOTW process.

Is there anyone here who can help me with WSJT-X? One thing is when I click

it, there is a header and nothing there. I used to able to have a log file

[BVARC] Issue with TYT UV handi talkie

2021-05-02 Thread Martin Blaise via BVARC
Today I was helping with the Arc bike ride Tour duRouge and we were on the
147.000 repeater. I was able to transmit with the ht using an adapter and a
magnet mount antenna on top of the car. However I was only able to hear
anyone if I pressed in the squelch button on the side of the ht. I
programmed various squelch settings but nothing worked except pressing the
side button. Again all good on the transmit side. Anyone have a fix? I do
notice it’s only doing this on two meters. When I transmit on frequencies
like 442.000 it does break the squelch and send the ID audio and other uhf
repeaters the same. I’ve double checked settings and checked the manual so
hope someone might see what I missed thanks Marty AG5T

[BVARC] question about relay seen on ebay - and Yaesu ft450d

- I want to know exactly what they mean by plugging into the tuner - is it
the tuner on the back of the yaesu 450d or do you have to have an external
tuner? I am trying to figure out what it takes between the amp (hope to get
one) and the hf rig. I use the internal tuner on the 450d, so I'm not using
a tuner output from the rig. Trying to figure this out. Old amps have to be
connected for relaying to newer rigs. Any help appreciated. Marty AG5T

[BVARC] question about telescoping mast

2020-11-10 Thread Martin Blaise via BVARC
I came across this online. I want to know if this type of mast is heavy
enough to support an MFJ 2386 vertical antenna. I have decided to buy new
rather than use rusted out equipment. Antenna is 23.5’ and only 7 pounds.
Thanks Marty, AG5T(wind max on antenna is 67 mph). (if this will work, I
would be put two feet in ground and bracket to side of house)

See notes below:
Rohn H20 Mast Telescoping

ROHN telescoping mast. Galvanized tubing with competitive staggered length
feature. Top Section is 1-1/4", 16 gauge. Bottom Section is 1-1/2", 18
gauge.

Used for Off-Air TV Antenna, Amateur (Ham) Radio, Wireless Internet
Antenna, MMDS and Cell Phone Signal Booster Installations (not included).
All Telescoping push-up Masts are galvanized and come with hardware
designed to support light duty antennas in various applications. The unique
Rohn design features interior tube flanging combined with a double crimped
exterior tube to produce a stronger and more stable joint than most common
mast. Each section extends deeper into the lower tubes than most designs,
adding to the masts stability. Height describes the overall pipe length.
Due to overlapping, extended masts will be shorter. This Mast extends to
about 19 Feet in actual height and ships to Commercial and Residential
addresses alike. Estimated Usable Extended Height is about 19 Feet.

Mast Section Dimensions are:
(1) 10'0" length x 1.25" O.D.
(2) 9'10" length x 1.50" O.D.

[BVARC] Telescoping mast

2020-10-03 Thread Martin Blaise via BVARC
Does anyone have a telescoping mast such as a two section 20 footer? I have
a vertical antenna mfj. 2386 mounted on a part of a mast but the mast and
its rings and pins are completely rusted out I can no longer raise the
antenna to proper height (it’s up to the roof eave now it was previously at
rooftop level at 17 feet above ground actually mfj says 35 above ground is
ideal but that is not a good idea on a city lot) if anyone has other ideas
let me know thanks AG5T

Re: [BVARC] Best solder

2020-07-30 Thread Martin Blaise via BVARC
I found 60/40 tin lead with rosin on Amazon for electrical projects. I was
going to replace the entire coax but the top connection is two feet out of
my reach. I told my wife I would just shimmy up the telescoping mast and
she said heck no. Maybe I can budge it two feet down or maybe I can tie a
ladder to the pole. I’ll start with the connector on the ground. Guess
tying a ladder up in the air is not a good idea

Re: [BVARC] Zoom help

2020-07-19 Thread Martin Blaise via BVARC
I know the internet provider connection is not the best. We lose xfinity
internet from time to time. And I think the laptop is just too old to work
well on Zoom. With the ECHO meeting on Zoom we had about 10 people and
everything worked fine. When I tried to get on a Zoom meeting that had at
least 25 people the audio completely fell apart. I will try again this week
with the 3905 group on Wednesday and see what happens. I have a feeling
that my stuff is too old and too slow to get on a big Zoom meeting. Thanks
all.

I have an old 8 in one radio plus turntable plus cassette plus cd recorder.
However the cd tray is not working. Does anyone know someone who could
repair it? If it’s working I can copy LP and 45s to Cds. Thanks

Re: [BVARC] Last Weekly Field Day Planning Meeting

2020-06-10 Thread Martin Blaise via BVARC
Since ECHO is so small and we could not come up with a field day location
or chairperson, we decided to let ECHO members choose a group to
participate with if they want to. In fact, as far as I know I was the only
ECHO participant to get on the air last FD at the four club event.

2020-05-07 Thread Martin Blaise via BVARC
Question when using ft8 and ft4 and you go to time.is and it does NOT say
your time is exact, how much does that hurt your chances of not completing
a contact? Say you are off by 0.2 seconds. Is that close enough? I have a
very old desktop running windows 10. Run wsjt-x 2.1.2. Isn’t it more about
the dB level? I’ve had reports of 00 and reports of -22. Just trying to
figure out if synch is critical.

Re: [BVARC] Fm transmitter for Easter service

2020-04-09 Thread Martin Blaise via BVARC
We are just going to have the pastor stand in the grass outside the church
with an amplifier. If it is unsafe to roll down windows please let me know
and I will contact the church and tell them not to do it. Thanks I had
encouraged leaving parking spaces open between cars. If I am going too far
on this let me know. Thanks. We won't have many cars there.

[BVARC] Phone services?

2020-03-31 Thread Martin Blaise via BVARC
Ok instead of an fm transmitter is there a way to use a cell phone to
broadcast the service audio to cars in the parking lot? I found fm
transmitters online but none of them can be delivered until after mid May
so can’t get them for Easter. I know it is called streaming but apparently
they want people in cars at the parking lot instead of at home. We already
tape and play back on YouTube. I know this is kinda off topic so thank you.

church to the cars per social distancing. Email or call me at 713-305-2148

[BVARC] problem solved, I think

2020-03-27 Thread Martin Blaise via BVARC
I moved my cables because the cat cable was wound up in a loop. The two usb
serial cables are now straightened and behind the desk. I tried a test on
3.547 with cw and fldigi and the vertical and the swr is fine now. Guess it
was stray rf in the shack. de AG5T

[BVARC] Swr question

2020-03-27 Thread Martin Blaise via BVARC
I have a mfj 2386 vertical at my house . It receives okay but transmit is
questionable at best. I contacted mfj and asked how to add radials and they
said that antenna is designed for without verticals and did I have the
bottom of the antenna at 37 feet up? I only have it about less than half of
that. I need a taller support. Anyway it’s broadbanded and my 450d internal
antenna tuner shows good swr match but last night on 80 meters I tuned up
and the antenna matched fine but when I transmitted on cw with flidigi it
showed swr mismatch. Rf in the shack? Trouble shooting ideas? Thanks

[BVARC] $30 cat cable still does not work

2020-01-14 Thread Martin Blaise via BVARC
I just purchased a $30 cat cable from Mouser and first of all they sent me
the wrong thing. The end has male pins, not female. I did have a male to
female adapter and I then plugged that into the rs 232 port on the back of
the Yaesu 450d.

However that still did not work. I plugged the cable into the USB port and
heard click click click and the radio was stuck on transmit and I had to
unplug the cable to get it unstuck. I got multiple com port errors. Same
problem as before. Cannot control radio with cat cable.

Everyone - I cannot fix this problem by myself. I guess now I need to send
the cable back to Mouser and tell them its the wrong thing. Also, I have
done everything in my power to try and figure this out. I need help. Either
by teamviewer or in person. I am at a dead end. I cannot operate ft8 with a
stuck transmitter. My phone number is 713-305-2148. Sorry to keep bringing
this up, but it is really getting frustrating. Thanks. Marty, AG5T

Re: [BVARC] ft8 fox and hound and question about cat cable

2020-01-09 Thread Martin Blaise via BVARC
When I plug in the cat cable the serial ports go nuts and the cable does
not work to operate the yaesu 450d from the computer. I have two usb slots
on the front of the computer with one already being used by a usb to serial
adapter going to my rig blaster nomic and that cable works and it uses a
serial port. It is specific to west mountain radio and the rig blaster.
Apparently the other cable I bought must be a cheap knockoff that is out
there on eBay so I am wondering if I spend $30 for a yaesu specific cable
will it work or will the com ports go crazy. Also I can plug a flash drive
into one of the two usb slots and it works fine but I don’t think a flash
drive is accessing a com port so my big issue is that I need the right
cable or com that will make the computer work the radio.

[BVARC] Question about increasing power

2020-01-03 Thread Martin Blaise via BVARC
I run a 75 meter worked all states net with 100 watts output. Stations in
the New England area states, the northern states and the west have trouble
copying me or can’t and I have to get relay stations to get them checked
in. I would love to have a nice amplifier but I just do not have $4000 to
buy one. What I want to know is ... is there some possible way to increase
the power up to say 250 watts so I’d be reaching all states better? An old
used amp? Would it work with a yaesu 450d? The antenna is a home brew 75
meter dipole above my house and going into an L shape. Another note I do
not have the $700 or so for fancier antenna and I’m not sure it would put
out a stronger signal. In any case what is the best way to get more power
for someone on a budget?

[BVARC] FT8 dxpedition mode - com port and cable not working

2019-12-21 Thread Martin Blaise via BVARC
I am having trouble getting my cat cable to work between the HF rig and the
computer. It says I have to have it if I want to work dxpeditions on FT8
since the software controls the frequencies. I cannot get the com port
function to work properly. I have two usb ports on the front on the
computer. One is already in use with a serial to usb cable to my rigblaster
nomic. So that is one usb slot and one com port already in use. I should be
able to plug the other serial to usb into the other usb port and control my
radio from the computer. I have even tried a usb slot on the back of the
computer and it still does not work. I don't have the money to buy a new
computer at this time. Do I need to buy a specific cable that only works
with the Yaesu 450d? (proprietary?) The best I could do is take screen
shots with the error messages and email them to you. If anyone can help it

Re: [BVARC] Newest version of WSJT-X has deleted any power output

2019-08-05 Thread Martin Blaise via BVARC
No changes in audio settings. I guess my computer is too old to run wsjt-x
version 2.1. Just won't put out any power. I have reverted back to 2.0.
Have no idea why 2.1 won't work.. power out is zero

Re: [BVARC] [NARS] Newest version of WSJT-X has deleted any power output

2019-08-05 Thread Martin Blaise via BVARC
Here is what my wsjt settings for audio looks like:
Audio settings (on version 2.0 which is working)
Input: Microphone (C-Media PCI Audio Device) arrow down is mono
Output: Speakers (C-Media PCI Audio Device) arrow down is mono
Remember power settings by band
neither one is checked for transmit or tune

I had a sound card installed because the original sound card destroyed by
lightning hit. I wonder if 2.1 is looking for the old sound card device?
Should I check these audio settings? Note: I'm kind of hesitant at this
point because 2.0 is working.

[BVARC] Newest version of WSJT-X has deleted any power output

2019-08-04 Thread Martin Blaise via BVARC
I upgrade to the 2.1.0 version of WSJT-X and now I have zero power output
on FT8 so any chance of working E44WE is gone. Can someone tell me why a
newer version of software would destroy my power output? Can I go back to
the previous version so I can make contacts on FT8? I did tests and on cw
digital software my signals are 100 watts out. On FT8 now they are zero
despite what the meter says. PSKreportermap and hamspots say I have zero
signal from WSJT-X. I don't understand how a software upgrade can change my
power to nothing. Sorry I don't know how to go about fixing this. I am
sending a message to the WSJT group and I've looked at all their
documentation. When you upgrade to try and work a rare DX and the software
ruins your chances that is truly frustrating. Anyone have any suggestions?

[BVARC] Question about amplifiers

2019-07-31 Thread Martin Blaise via BVARC
I see things on eBay for ham amplifiers such as yaesu and American. Most
are $500 and up and that is not in my budget. I also see things like
Palomar ham and cb linears around $100. I am not looking to have a kw. I
would just like to try to get to 200 or 250 watts as opposed to 100 watts.
I assume all cb amps are junk. I am curious though as to how many watts
those $100 amps put out and whether anyone has tried them with an hf
transceiver. Any suggestions

memorable that you can add to the list. I remember K5LBU (SK) slide shows
of Botswana and also a fun session with HT show and tell. Anyway, thanks

[BVARC] Short section of RG8 with PL connectors

2019-04-30 Thread Martin Blaise via BVARC
I put up a 20 meter dipole but the RG8 coax from the shack would not reach
the center connector, so I used an old piece of coax as a splice to reach
the connector. Apparently that piece of coax has seen better days. Does
anyone have a piece of RG8 about 5 feet long with PL connectors for sale or
trade? I have the barrel connectors already. (I am beginning to think I
need to check my house for curses or paranomal activity. It seems like
every ham project I've taken on is a mess. Or perhaps I could hold the ECHO
Society meeting at my house and say the topic is "fix everything!") The
other issue with the coax is that my radio shack coaxes come in through the
weep hole of the house and any new coax that enters the house will have to
go in without a connector. FYI - the noise on the antenna switch for the 20
meter antenna is WAY down from the other antennas like many dB and also the
Yaesu 450d auto tuner does not tune anywhere in the entire 20 meter band.
Thanks.
