[OSL | CCIE_Voice] CCIE success

2013-01-26 Thread Bill Lake
Hello All,

Yesterday I posted my notes on the way I was successful and I forgot one
critical thing.

Determination

You have to also have the determination to study, sometimes I worked 60-90
hour weeks and found it hard to study but I always made sure that when I
had time off work, I had even a short study time each day, even if it was
only 15-30 minutes before bed, I would focus on one item.

Don't give up because you could easily be overwhelmed by your first lab
visit and the volume of work in the time, you might get the flu, you might
even break a tooth (yes I broke a molar a week before this lab) but keep
your determination to learn and achieve this certification.

[OSL | CCIE_Voice] Unregistered 7965 takes CallManager some time to realize

2013-01-26 Thread Jason Aarons
I'm doing some PSTN routing to phones that are Unregistered to CallManager
(CFUR). I notice it takes CallManager about a minute to realize the phones
have un-registered after adding a null route at a branch.

Is there any timer/settings that would make CallManager kick in the CFUR
route faster?

The connection monitor duration is how long the phones wait before
re-registering to CallManger (I have it set to 10 sec) so that doesn't
apply. Anything else I could be missing?

Re: [OSL | CCIE_Voice] CCIE success

2013-01-26 Thread Abel ...
My story to get my voice was like a funny movie. In the first attempt I
thought I got it cause I finished every task but like happens for most of
us I misread some stuff and fail.
In my second attempt my first daughter born one week before the lab, I
didn't practice a lot but for some reason I did it better than my previous
attempt but still failed cause I don't get enough time at the end to verify
my solutions. In my last attempt, without money, with a new baby I got some
luck to put together some money for one last attempt but this time I knew
the key is to be fast and know what are you doing. I study one more month
to get all my IOS config done in 90 minutes from my mind or just using
documentation if I forget some parameter. I got a rack issue in the last
two attempts but in the last one I got enough time to figure it out with
the proctor. At the end with two hours left for verification I found some
errors in my whole config but enough to fail again. Silly errors, but
enough to fail.

Jason,

I am thinking that the Station KeepAlive Interval and/or Station and Backup
Server KeepAlive Interval is playing a role in the behavior you are observing.
These are CallManager service parameters. By default, they are set to 30s and
60s, respectively.

2013-01-26 Thread William Bell
Jason,

I just did a quick test in my lab where I dropped the default timers for the
two service parameters I referred to. It definitely changed the time it took
for CFUR to engage, as I expected it would. I dropped the values to 10s for
Station KeepAlive Interval and 20s for Station and Backup Server KeepAlive
Interval and found that CFUR engaged at around 15 - 20s. With default values,
it took between 55 - 60s for CFUR to engage.

it was only 15-30 minutes before bed, I would focus on one item.

Don't give up because you could easily be overwhelmed by your first lab
visit and the volume of work in the time, you might get the flu, you
might even break a tooth (yes I broke a molar a week before this lab) but
keep your determination to learn and achieve this certification.

Re: [OSL | CCIE_Voice] CCIE success

2013-01-26 Thread Abel ...
Is possible, because close to the lab I was studding around 16 hours per
day, that means eating over the keyboard minus some minutes to stretch and
walkout.

 Hi,

 And Congratulations for your success.

In your previous email you mentioned 60-90 hour weeks as a token of your
 determination.
Is it possible to give us some details of your weeks planning ?

I just started my CCIE Voice journey and i managed to book 5 hours per
working day (Monday to Friday nights) and 12 per day (weekend).

 Thanks in advance,

 Regards,

 Hello All,

Yesterday I posted my notes on the way I was successful and I forgot one
 critical thing.

 Determination

You have to also have the determination to study, sometimes I worked
60-90 hour weeks and found it hard to study but I always made sure that
when I had time off work, I had even a short study time each day, even
if it was only 15-30 minutes before bed, I would focus on one item.

Don't give up because you could easily be overwhelmed by your first lab
visit and the volume of work in the time, you might get the flu, you
might even break a tooth (yes I broke a molar a week before this lab)
but keep your determination to learn and achieve this certification.
