Unfortunately I can't, since I'm using MyEclipse (a commercial add-on for Eclipse that costs about $40), and with all the plugins and the rest my Eclipse folders are probably upwards of 700 megs in size, which really isn't distributable. RE: Good SSL Provider
On the topic of godaddy certs, I just recently bought one and installed yesterday. The guy at starfieldtech (this is where godaddy certs come from) was quick to pinpoint the problem, but was pretty rude and wouldn't explain why the certificate needed to be disabled. RE: SOLVED? Re: Method=GET received as POST by CF
A little late to this thread. But Dave is right. Let's look at it this way, there are many ways to submit. But each and every method is because an event was fired to do so, just that using the onClick event on the input type of submit, is a way to override the event. And as you mentioned to return true will fire the event and return false will abort / cancel the thread. I would look at a routine that was pure validation, then you could fire the event (your choosing) then decide on the method to validate. Most Ajax frameworks with validation work in this manner, the best thing is that the code is open for reuse and minimises the duplication of code as well. Just symantecs is what it comes down too. If the onClick event returns false, the click on the submit button is cancelled, then ther is no submit, if it returns true, the submit proceeds normally. I don't call submit(). For instance, I have forms to edit some items. Two submit buttons, one to confirm, this one calls the validation function, the other one to delete the item, and this one of course needs no validation. The purpose of this procedure is to force users to see what they want to delete before they delete it. The only problem is when a user press the Return key, which would normally trigger the submit without calling the validation function. But I had to inhibit the return key on any field except text areas anyway, because I have some users moron enough to press Return in text fields because they want to have several lines ;-) -- ___ REUSE CODE! Re: Date and Time
The easiest way is to set up a default value for that field in your database, so it gets automatically inserted when you create a new record. SQL Server? MySQL? Something else? If sql server, you would put getDate() as the default value for that field. This will automatically insert the current datetime into that field whenever a new record is created. If you want to insert it yourself, you can set it into the db when you save the other fields. Something like insert into db (title, body, uploadDate) VALUES ('#title#','#body#',#createODBCDateTime(now())#) (of course ,you should use cfqueryparam for the title and body fields, but I am too lazy to type them). Re: Having problems with LEN()...
Hi Mike, What do you mean by "it fails miserably"? Personally I would probably write that differently because it does look a bit messy with so many len() checks. Suggestions could be: Use CFSWITCH/CFCASE. Although it would do the same thing as your if statements it would be a lot cleaner and easier to read. Just check the len in the CFSWITCH expression then based on the value load an appropriate case. The cfelse statement at the end could be covered by a CFDEFAULTCASE. Alternatively you could use a CFLOOP which is feed the length of the form.reorder and then adds a set amount of zeros at the start depending on the difference between the starting value and the value 8. For example if the form.reorder is 4 then you would loop over the Order_Number variable four times adding a 0 at the start of each cycle. As I say that's just personal opinion. Re: Having problems with LEN()...
What do you mean by "it fails miserably?". You could try simplifying it with a CFSWTCH/CFCASE statement instead... It pretty much does the same as your IF statement but personally I find that a bit easier to read! Because you've got an obvious pattern as well you could do this in loop and make CF do all the work for you. Dependings on your personal preference I guess. Re: eCommerce Questions
Randy, In a nutshell, if the business maintains a location (office, store, branch store, P.O. box for incorporation, etc.) in the same state as the customer, tax should be applied and collected by the business. If not, it is the responsibility of the customer to determine the amount of tax owed on the transaction and pay that amount to the appropriate agency (the local tax man). Please understand that this is a super generalization and may not apply to all states / situations. Also, consider that the statement above is made by a guy who develops web sites and pays someone else to do his taxes. This is the conclusion I came to after some research last year. If you find out something different, please let us know. USPS, FEDEX, and UPS all maintain web services to get shipping rates. Whatever you choose to use, you will be required to create an account with them in order to use thier online tools. ~Max On 6/26/07, Adkins, Randy <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > > I have built shopping carts in the past for software and such but have > never had to deal with > shipping cost and adding taxes to the cost. > > So here are my two questions: > > 1. I wasn't referring to Mark at all...that was directed at the people responding to bug reports for Eclipse. Instead of basically telling everyone with Vista they are SOL because the zipping protocol they use or something within how they zip their files doesn't work in Vista...they should be trying to fix that issue so that it is compatible with Vista...even if it is a limitation coming from Vista. The whole project based editing is the one big turn-off for most people that say they don't like CFEclipse. If it were easy to just install CFE and simply double click a .cfm

>>Which was that you CAN easily run simple tests or try things out within Eclipse without having to set up new projectes or files over and over. But you do not have to set up any new project with CF Studio just to test a page. Just save it under some name and call it from Explorer. You can also set up a new button in CF Studio once for ever that will open Explorer on test.cfm and always use the same file for your tests. Not a big deal. Eclipse is a much more general application development environment. CF Studio is more design for ColdFusion Web applications, so it is much more specialized and simple. Not a big deal. This is quite amusing because what you describe is EXACTLY what the CFEclipse scribble pad is. Maybe instead of bashing it you should try it, or at least get a more complete grasp on what you are dismissing. Eclipse is a much more general application development environment. > CF Studio is more design for ColdFusion Web applications, so it is much > more specialized and simple. Fair enough. But to me, CF Studio comes from another time period that just doesn't hold up under modern, best-practice-based development. I can say with very high certainty that I will never again work on a project that doesn't use Subversion for version control, or that doesn't include full unit and regression testing, or that doesn't use ANT to automate all the steps involved in deploying of the application. And I think that people who refuse to start looking at these kinds of development practices are going to find themselves increasingly marginalized. CF Studio doesn't support this kind of development, and CFEclipse does. ~| Macromedia ColdFusion MX7 Upgrade to MX7 & experience time-saving features, more productivity. http://www.adobe.com/products/coldfusion?sdid=RVJW Archive: http://www.houseoffusion.com/groups/CF-Talk/message.cfm/messageid:282283 Subscription: http://www.houseoffusion.com/groups/CF-Talk/subscribe.cfm Unsubscribe: http://www.houseoffusion.com/cf_lists/unsubscribe.cfm?user=11502.10531.4

I won't even bother with your other points (even though some appear to be caused because you don't look in the right place), but I do feel that this mud-slinging deserves a response. The issue with unzipping Eclipse on Windows Vista has nothing to do with the utility that was used to package the Eclipse .zip. The issue is that some files inside the archive have a file path that is so long that the native unzip utility in Windows Vista can not handle it. Using a different utility to zip the files does not change the length of the file paths so that does not solve the problem. I always remap that to ctrl+shift+z. It's much easier to undo and redo with one hand. That's just the default keyboard shortcut. Virtually every command and it's keyboard shortcut is configurable. It may not be the most intuitive default, but I had the same issues back in the day going from CF Studio to DW, and Eclipse is at least quite flexible in this regard. This is the sort of thing I posted about earlier. Eclipse/CFEclipse has chosen to not follow defined usability and accessibility keyboard shortcuts. For you (Eclipse community) to just shrug it off as well that's just their defaults is wrong. For the Eclipse programmers to just start defining their own keyboard shortcuts in place of standard shortcuts is wrong. In the early days of HomeSite development this same issue had to be addressed and fixed. It's time for Eclipse to do the same. I'm baffled as to why this is such an issue to you, and why you have such a double standard on the subject. The system requirements page for VS2005 Express Edition says exactly this: *RAM1*: Minimum: 192 megabytes (MB) Recommended: 256 MB And VS2008 system requirements says: "*RAM:* 1 GB of available physical RAM". It must be "make up numbers day". By the way, you can set exactly how much memory Eclipse uses if you choose to. However, because I am so tired of this line of debate, I'll end here by saying that if you really have such a limited computer that running a program that uses 150 Mb of physical RAM (with 100+ plugins loaded) and 150 Mb of swap file space is too much, and you refuse to spend $30 to buy another gig of RAM, then yes, don't use Eclipse (or Firefox, or Word, or Outlook, or any other program that uses memory in this range). Before you tell me that its impossible to write an efficient app as far as > total memory goes, grab a copy of uTorrent and check out its RAM usage. Now we're getting somewhere, because I'll be happy to correct most of these misconceptions. If you have something specific that you want to map, please list it. *Missing actions: (That I know of so far)* > 1. The lack of being able to assign a keyboard shortcut to each snippet > is still an issue. Actually the snippet capabilities in CFE are far superior to the ones in HS+ in my opinion. The problem with the keyboard snippets in HS is two fold: first, there are only so many shortcuts you can define due to the number of keys available, and second, you have to remember the shortcuts. In CFE for example, I can type "getset" and hit control-j, and it will prompt me for a variable name and type. I enter them and press return. A full set of getter and setter methods for that variable name and type appears in the code editor. I can type "arg" and hit control-j, and it spits out a full cfargument tag (filled in with my name, type, etc.). I can type "cfc" and hit control-j, and a full CFC skeleton is rendered, complete with init() method already defined. I can type "v" and hit control-j and " variables.instance" appears. I'm sure you see where this is going. Not only can you have your snippets prompt you for input (or even show you a drop down list of options for each value you want to define), but it is FAR easier to remember these snippet triggers than remember "control-shift-h" or something. And you can create an unlimited number of these snippets. 2. The fact that you can't select text then use a keyboard shortcut to > have a snippet wrap around your selected text is till an issue. (And > yes I know about the new features in snippets. They are nice, but at > the expense of loosing other just as useful features.) You're right, you can't do this because CFE's snippets use some trigger text, not a keyboard shortcut. However, I'd argue that the ability to have it prompt you for input that you can enter and have your snippet wrap around is much more useful. You can wrap selected text in a CFML comment, or in ', ", or # though. 3. Select Full Tag. I use this in HS/CFS all the time. Can this be > done in CFE with a keyboard shortcut? I've never used this or wanted to. But no I don't think it will do this. You can jump to matching tag but not select it. However, hold down shift and press the down arrow key and you can select entire lines, so unless you're selected tag with a ton of stuff in it, selected a block of anything in CFE is very easy and fast. 4. Extended Find/Replace. I can seem to find a way to do this at all. Control-H or the Search menu. Lots of options including regular expression search. 5. Thanks to Marjolein Katsma, HS/CFS had full featured Tag Editors and > Help Documents that covered all the attributes of every tag including > identifying items that were W3C complaint and IE or NS only. The tag > editors and Dictionary view are not even near complete in CFE. If I type any tag or function it will give me tag insight on it. You can right click and hit Edit Tag to get a tag editor window. What exactly is not complete? It even already has support for the CF8 tags and functions (though these are obviously still in flux). 6. ctrl+< inserted <> and ctrl+> inserted How about just pressing "<" which automatically renders "<>". It will also automatically insert end tags (close a and you get ). While I don't see an option for "" you could easily make ">" a snippet trigger for "". 7. The ability to create my own tag editors and tag/function insight. > Can that be done? It certainly can, look at the dictionary folder within the eclipse plugin folder. It's all defined in XML. 8. The limited help in the Dictionary View is a problem. I do not even > try to remember every attribute to every function in CF. I know the > ones I use regularly and the rest I look up when needed. I do make a > point on knowing what functions exist so I know what is built into CF > before I try to re-invent the wheel. When I type "ListFindNoCase(" it completes the ")" and brings up full tag insight saying: ListFindNoCase( list, String value, String, [delimiters, String, ","] ) Determines the index of the first list element in which a specified value occurs Further, if I fill in the first arguments, say "myList" and hit ",", it prompts me again but only for the remaining arguments. I would hope this would be enough help for the vast majority of circumstances. 9. In HS/CFS we could write Javascript or VBscript action that could

Having problems with LEN()...
My page takes input from another CFM page. One variable, reorder, is a a reorder number that is 8 digits in length but probably 90% of the reorder numbers are 6 digits preceeded with two 0s so customers will omit the leading 0s. It can also be as short as 4 digits. To make it a valid reorder number for our database I have to add enough 0s to make it 8 digits in length. My first pass at this ended up with this code which works for 90% of the reorder numbers since 90% of them are 6 digits: Now I'm trying to accomodate older orders that are 4+ digits in length and either my LEN statements or my logic is flawed. I have this code and it fails miserably: Nothing else changes on the form other than deleting the first and adding the second and . Where does my argument blow up? I can only think of a couple off the top of my head that seem ubiquitous, such as ctrl-c, ctrl-v, ctrl-x for copy/paste/cut and then probably ctrl-u, i and b for visual text formating. I just tried ctrl-z and ctrl-shift-z ctrl-y in my open applications that support text entry. Thunderbird recognized ctrl-z as undo and both shift-ctrl-z and ctrl-y as redo. Undo and redo went back to the last dash I wrote, going over a period. I presume there is some logic behind it, but I can't tell you what. Trillian recognized ctrl-z as undo and undid my typing one character at a time. It didn't recognize ctrl-shift-z but it did recognize ctrl-y. I'd be really curious to see a list of commonly recognized shortcuts and what programs support them. It will probably be more and more useful as we start developing web applications as applications more than pages. "fails miserably" and "blows up" are kinda vague. got an error message? but a couple of points: 1) look up the numberFormat() function. you can pad a number with leading zeros. seems should be all the logic you need. 2) you've got some pound signs that aren't needed. len(form.reorder) works a treat and is a bit easier to read. is preferred ofer . Re: CF Editor
I fully agree that it can be intimidating and is more difficult to get used to than something like Dreamweaver (I said as much in my original post way up there). However, it really isn't THAT difficult to learn, you just have to work with it. I think we both agree. My real point in continuing with the thread is that it is obvious that a lot people have major misconceptions about CFEclipse and what it can or can't do. As far as I am concerned the only two arguments that have any real validity to them are the inability to click on a file in your OS file explorer to open in in Eclipse, and the fact that it takes up 100Mb of physical RAM by default. And to me these aren't even worth worrying about when weighed against the vast usefulness of the Eclipse platform and CFEclipse. As I said, once you're leveraging the Subversion, ANT, and unit testing integration in Eclipse, the old way will seem downright quiant. Actually there is a third real issue people have, and I think it's that people who are used to Homesite or Dreamweaver just don't want to deal with learning curve and the slight changes needed to do similar things in CFEclipse. Which I guess is a valid point, but not, in my opinion, a very sound decision to make in the long term. css in blog layout
I know this is probably not the best place but I figure someone here may have come across this problem. I launched a new look for my blog http://www.danvega.org/blog/ It looks great in FireFox and people have told me that in IE7 it looks ok as well. In IE6 however (i know..haha) the navigation menu and the right menu is all screwed up. Also I just noticed that my code views are not auto wrapping? eCommerce Questions
I have built shopping carts in the past for software and such but have never had to deal with shipping cost and adding taxes to the cost. So here are my two questions: 1. Tax Question: If a customer in South Carolina purchases an item from a vendor in Florida, what tax rate should be applied? Florida? SC? 2. In regards to #1, If it is from the customer's location, does anyone have an API or know of a web services to get those rates? 3. Shipping Cost: I know there was an API for USPS but I can not find it.. (yes I hit Google). Does anyone have an API such as that or know of a services/place I can get one? Re: CF Editor
Just curious why you would want a different keyboard shortcut for everything. The whole point of keyboard shortcuts are to keep your hands off the mouse which can interrupt workflow. To me typing is usually easier than shortcut keys, therefor it seems easier to me to type a keyword (abort, dump, query) use cntrl j to bring up my attribute menu type those in and go from there. RE: GET instead of POST error again
Post isn't the default url variable is it? Would it be possible that the default 'post' is being displayed and that 'get' is coming from someone writing their own form and submitting to your action template? Just a thought ..:.:.:.:.:.:.:.:.:.:.:.:.:.:.:.:.:. Bobby Hartsfield http://acoderslife.com -Original Message- From: Claude Schneegans [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Tuesday, June 26, 2007 10:30 AM To: CF-Talk Subject: GET instead of POST error again Hi, For those who are also getting this error, here are some results of what I've been doing in an effort to isolate the exact circumstances of the problem. Every time a form is submitted in my application, the following JS code is executed: if (form.action.indexOf("method") == -1) form.action += (form.action.indexOf("?") > 0 ? "&" : "?") + "method=" + form.method; This code is executed in an onclick event on the submit button. It will add the value of the form method attribute in the action url, so that when the problem of missing form scope happens, I can see it in the dump. And here is what I get: in the url scope: METHOD = post in the CGI scope: REQUEST_METHOD = GET Then at the time the user clicked on the submit button, the method of the form was definitely POST. So the error happens most likely somewhere on the server, between the HTTP server and CF. My server is running IIS 5.0 under Windows 2000 5.00 and ColdFusion 5.0 -- ___ REUSE CODE! Someone may offer up a better solution but I would simply set a cfc path variable in the application scope and use VTI.Comps.Admin locally and Comps.Admin in production. I don't know why this didn't come through so forgive any double posts that might happen... Eric Roberts said > The Eclipse people also seem to have a bad attitude. The creators of CFEclipse have always been nothing but helpful... devoting not only their time to develop it but their time to help people on the lists (including this one) and listen to their users when it comes to things they like or dislike or want to see in the future. I think they do a great job. Maybe you just had a bad experience with one of them or something, I don't know but that is definitely an unfair generalization of a group of people who have always been fair, helpful and understanding when it comes to their users especially when it's based on an unzipping problem caused by Vista. http://groups.google.com/group/cfeclipse-users is a good place to see how helpful they (and users) can be. ..:.:.:.:.:.:.:.:.:.:.:.:.:.:.:.:.:. There's nothing in the > Apache config to tell it to do so, as far as I can see? > Anyone have any ideas? My understanding is that the Apache module used by CF (or, more accurately, your J2EE server - JRun) examines each request that comes to the server, by default, to determine if it should be run by CF. The only filter used to determine whether requests are sent for this examination, is the context root of your CF application server instance, which by default is "/". Within CF itself, the file {cf_root}/wwwroot/WEB-INF/web.xml is used to determine whether the file will be processed by the CF server proper. Re: CF Editor
Let's be clear here. I'm not bashing, I want to be able to work efficiently my way and so far Eclipse is getting in the way. I'm not a fan of behavior modification for the masses. I am pointing out features that I think are missing and that I deem necessary for me to work. Please show me where these features are included in CFE and I will be happy. There is almost nothing in Eclipse that cannot be customized to a keyboard shortcut. The list of commands that can be mapped to keyboard shortcuts is gigantic. I think you are looking in the wrong place. I'm looking in the the only place to modify keyboard shortcuts. The list of CF commands that can be mapped is short. Maybe you should install HomeSite again (just for fun) and look at all the options that can be customized for keyboard control. It would be nice if CFEclipse would add the equivalent functionality. Thank you for the tip on indenting and un-indenting blocks of code. I'm using it already. *Missing actions: (That I know of so far)* 1. The lack of being able to assign a keyboard shortcut to each snippet is still an issue. 2. The fact that you can't select text then use a keyboard shortcut to have a snippet wrap around your selected text is till an issue. (And yes I know about the new features in snippets. They are nice, but at the expense of loosing other just as useful features.) 3. Select Full Tag. I use this in HS/CFS all the time. Can this be done in CFE with a keyboard shortcut? 4. Extended Find/Replace. I can seem to find a way to do this at all. 5. Thanks to Marjolein Katsma, HS/CFS had full featured Tag Editors and Help Documents that covered all the attributes of every tag including identifying items that were W3C complaint and IE or NS only. The tag editors and Dictionary view are not even near complete in CFE. 6. ctrl+< inserted <> and ctrl+> inserted 7. The ability to create my own tag editors and tag/function insight. Can that be done? 8. The limited help in the Dictionary View is a problem. I do not even try to remember every attribute to every function in CF. I know the ones I use regularly and the rest I look up when needed. I do make a point on knowing what functions exist so I know what is built into CF before I try to re-invent the wheel. 9. In HS/CFS we could write Javascript or VBscript action that could be executed in HS/CFS itself and access the HS/CFS API layer. Many people wrote some great new functions that extended HS/CFS to great new levels. Can anything like this be done in Eclipse with out actually being a plug in creator. One example was a javascript extension to HS/CFS that would let you delete and entire tag including it's end tag with out affecting it's contents. 10. The ability to defined which tags have tag completion and to setup tag complete and tag insight for custom tags. and the list can continue. RE: CF Editor
I'm currently running CFEclipse with a few copies of our fairly large code base open. Eclipse process takes up about 3mb, and javaw, which is what eclipse runs on top of takes up 300mb. I have 3gb of ram, and it's true that people with limited amount of ram can't run eclipse. They should spring for an upgrade, but eclipse is still sluggish with a large code base. Sometimes it takes several minutes to refresh the workspace after a merge. I still prefer eclipse over DW and homesite due to it's tight integration with SVN and other tools. Re: CF Editor
Yes, he was exaggerating because he was trying to lump VM usage in with physical RAM. And sorry, but 150 Mb is not an outlandish amount of RAM. Especially considering how much Eclipse has built into it and the fact that it is a standalone Java application and not a native application. My Firefox and Outlook routinely use 100-200 Mb as well. To speed it up, try adding an argument like this to your shortcut: -vm "C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.6.0_01\bin\javaw.exe" Pointing CFE at a recent JVM speeds things up quite a bit. Re: CF Editor
I should also note that I run MyEclipse (which contains a visual HTML editor, CSS editor, JavaScript editor, and literally hundreds of other useful plugins), CFEclipse, Aptana, and FlexBuilder in the same installation of Eclipse, so for most people who don't run all those plugins the memory usage will be significantly less. My memory usage is probably at the very high end of the range. My experience with it hasn't been this painful, and lately that experience has been on a somewhat underpowered machine - 512 MB RAM, Intel Core Solo 1400. There are a bunch of options you can set to make it load and run more quickly, actually. Here's one, offhand: http://cfmxplus.blogspot.com/2002/10/speeding-up-dreamweaver-mx-disable.html > It's probably worth mentioning that it's criminally expensive. Criminally expensive? Really? It's $400. You can pay for that with one day of billable work. I'm comfortably running Eclipse within a VMware instance, along with a whole bunch of J2EE services, and I have 1.5 GB RAM allocated to the entire VM. The "massive Java bloat" is there because Eclipse started out as a Java IDE, so it has all sorts of plugins enabled (by default) for Java development. The version of Eclipse I mentioned above is actually the Web Tools Platform superset, with even more plugins for JBoss support, etc, etc. I also have the FlexBuilder plugin, CFEclipse, and LiveCycle Designer 8.1 installed into the same version of Eclipse. And again, it's still running fine. > I guess only the super rich can develop for CF at this point. You've got to be kidding me. You get paid for CF development, right? You can't afford 2 GB RAM?
