Homesite+ Flippin out
I'm running into a problem with Homesite+ 5.5 that I've had before and it's really driving me crazy. I go to the file pane and try to open the My Documents folder and it opens the dialog and proceeds to jump to ~95% CPU and stays there for several minutes before finally letting me choose a file. Same here. I also checked for orphaned shortcuts, had none. The title field in my viewer is greyed out, so I couldn't turn that on if I wanted. So I rebooted and it seems ok now. Like I said, I've had this before and it cleared up mysteriously, so it seems to be gone for now, but man is it annoying when it happens. CFTREEITEM problem
Hello, I'm trying to use the CFTREE to populate another frame with data based on the id of the node selected. Here is my code: cftreeitem value=datefmt,RequestID display=datefmt, timefmt img=folder, document imgopen=folder, document href=,dsp_requestForm.cfm target=main query=inquiries queryasroot=No expand=Yes The tree is basically the date, with inquiries below that with the time as the label. The problem I'm having is I cannot get the child nodes (the actual inquiries) to link to the form. The folders which shouldn't have an ID anyway are linked, but not the children. I know it's probably something simple, can someone tell me what am I doing wrong? RE: CF Allows Negative Zero?
Negative zero, while being an odd notation, is still a number, as would be -1, -2, -3, etc. I would be frightened if a negative number didn't pass the IsNumeric function. You shouldn't get an error trying to calculate with -0 (with the obvious exception of trying to divide by it)? If you need only positive values you could use abs(). John -Original Message- From: Dawson, Michael [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Wednesday, January 05, 2005 11:45 AM To: CF-Talk Subject: CF Allows Negative Zero? If you enter a negative zero (-0), CF keeps it as is and does not strip the negative sign. I would assume that is because CF may think this is a string, however, it passes the IsNumeric() function. RE: SQL search query
AS others have said, you are definitely missing some sort of join mechanism such as: cfquery name=Getpo datasource=purchaseorders SELECT * FROM purchaseorders p JOIN itemsordered i ON p.SOMETHING=i.SOMETHING Where 0=0 ... but also, unless those form fields are checkboxes, they will be defined upon form submission. I'm guessing here, but you probably want something along the lines of cffif len(trim(FORM.ponumber)).../cfif Also, someone else suggested you pull out the 0=0 and pre-build the query, I personally do it the way you have it, but I think that's more a matter of style than actual value judgement. Other than that, I'd second what others have said, re: CFQUERYPARAM and also grab only what you need. RE: SQL search query
Why can't you use cfqueryparam? I found the original more readable as well. Also, I'd triple and quadruple check to see if I could get rid of the LIKE operator. It's a process hog big time. LIKE for fields of this nature doesn't make sense to me, but I've got no clue what data you're dealing with :-) John -Original Message- From: Pascal Peters [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Tuesday, June 15, 2004 5:22 PM To: CF-Talk Subject: RE: SQL search query Nonono: this way you can't use cfqueryparam. As for finding something more readable, this is a matter of opinion. I like to have all the logic in the cfquery itself. When I look at your code, I find it a lot more complex than the code Robert had. There is nothing wrong with using 0 = 0. It just allows you to have less cfif's. I totally agree on the join and the select * though. Pascal -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: dinsdag 15 juni 2004 23:04 To: CF-Talk Subject: Re: SQL search query Robert First off you need to get rid of the where 0=0 in the where clause and use some logic to set how you really want your where statement to look. I've found that the easier way to handle these is to do it all in an cfif statement before the actual query. That way you don't have to do all of the logic in the query. I've found it more readable and easy to use. For example CFPARAM NAME= FORM.ponumber DEFAULT= CFPARAM NAME=FORM.invoicenumber DEFAULT= CFPARAM NAME=FORM.vendor DEFAULT= CFPARAM NAME=SearchAll DEFAULT= CFIF Form.ponnumber neq CFSET Searchpon=Where ponumber like '%#Form.ponumber#%' CFIF FORM.invoicenumber neq CFSET SearchInv=And invoicenumber LIKE'%#FORM.invoicenumber#%' /CFIF CFIF FORM.vendor neq CFSET Searchven= And vendor LIKE '#trim(FORM.vendor)#' /CFIF CFSET SearchAll=#SearchPon##SearchInv##SearchVen# CFELSEIF Form.Ponnum is and Form.Invoicenumber NEQ CFSET SearchInv=WHERE invoicenumber LIKE'%#FORM.invoicenumber#%' CFIF FORM.vendor neq CFSET Searchven= And vendor LIKE '#trim(FORM.vendor)#' /CFIF CFSET SearchAll=#SearchInv##SearchVen# CFELSEIF Form.Ponnum is and Form.Invoicenumber is and Form.vendor NEQ CFSET SearchVendor= Where vendor LIKE '#trim(FORM.vendor)#' CFSET SearchAll=#SearchVendor# /CFIF CFQUERY NAME=Getpo datasource=purchaseordersSELECT * FROM purchaseorders p, itemsordered I inner join p.CommonID=i.CommonID #SearchAll# You also need to connect the tables in your from clause. Your current from would list out a record for each record from both tables. (ie:if you have 10 in the I table and 7 in table P you'd have 70 records that show). I added an inner join, just add whatever id hooks the 2 tables. I hope that you did a select * just for the example here and that you are not using it for the actual query. You should only select what you really need. The * is going to pull every single field from both tables- do you really need/want all that info. (and do you want your database chugging away on all that unwanted stuff?) Hope this gets you started. J _ [Todays Threads] [This Message] [Subscription] [Fast Unsubscribe] [User Settings]

I did set it to: C:\\CFusion\\CFX_Tags\\CFX_JSpellCheck\\CFX_JSpellCheck.jar Then I stopped all JRun services (servers), had to modify the jvm.config based on the TechNote on Macromedia: http://www.macromedia.com/support/coldfusion/ts/documents/serv er_jvm_arg.htm (watch the WRAP) Made the change and restarted all JRun services, but I still get the following: Error processing CFX custom tag quot;CFX_JSpellCheckquot;. The CFX custom tag CFX_JSpellCheck was not found in the custom tag database. Please be sure to add custom tags to the database before using them. If you have added your tag to the database then you should check the spelling of the tag within your template to insure that it matches the database entry I'm pretty sure you'll still have to enter the CFX tag in the CF Administrator, in addition to putting the JAR in the classpath. Saving CF Admin settings
I have to rebuild a CF Development box, but I was wondering if there was a way to backup and restore all my CF admin settings. I know all that stuff is in XML files but can I install CF and then drop my old XML file(s) into the new install and have all my old settings? Is this still true? I was inder the impression that since CFMX compiles everything beforehand the performance gains that you used to get with CFSCRIPT are no longer there. Am I wrong about that? Application Modeling/Design/Diagramming
Hello everyone, I wanted to get some idea of what everyone uses to layout an application prior to building it. I'm trying to improve my skills and this is probably the biggest hurdle for me now--how to plan everything out beforehand rather than just jumping in and coding until I get myself into a corner that could've been avoided with better pre-planning. Ghost variables
Hello All, I have a very troubling issue with an application I wrote. I have a tabbed interface to a job tracking application. When a user selects the profile that they want to view or edit, I throw that profileID (pid) into the session scope, then I duplicate the session scope into the request scope for 'general' use so I don't have to worry about locking. Here's the code: cflock timeout=10 throwontimeout=no type=exclusive scope=session cfset Session.pid = form.pid cfset Request.Ses = Duplicate(Session) /cflock Now I have a user that says that he chooses a profile say profile 150, the profile page displays correctly, but when he clicks on another tab, I have one for enrollments, he will get the information for another profile, say 200. All I am doing on the enrollment page is a few queries with the where clause: WHERE ProfileID = cfqueryparam value=#request.ses.pid# cfsqltype=CF_SQL_SMALLINT I cannot replicate his problem. It seems like it might be browser cahce related, since the URL of the page remains the same and only the request variable will be different. Does this make sense? How can I fix it? MX Admin-Runtime Log Errors
Hello, I upgraded our production server to CFMX from CF5 last friday. After some initial hiccups, things seemed to settle down and I was impressed by the speed. I have one concern though, in the CFusionMX\runtime\logs\ directory, my default-err log has a ton of errors--it's 16MB in just a week. Now the server seems to be responsive, the standard CF Logs aren't showing anything out of the ordinary, but these errors just keep coming. Money Datatype Problem
Maybe someone can tell me what I'm doing wrong. I have a field in SQL Server 2K that is money datatype. I am building a submission form to populate that field and I keep getting errors about type. This is what my field insert looks like: cfif len(trim(form.HourlyWage))'#trim(numberFormat(form.HourlyWage,999.99))#' cfelseNULL/cfif Which throws this error: Disallowed implicit conversion from data type varchar to data type money, table 'JobTech.dbo.Enrollments', column 'HourlyWage'. Use the CONVERT function to run this query. Even though in debugging, the value is 10.00 which seems pretty money-like to me. SO I tried this: cfif len(trim(form.HourlyWageBefore))'CONVERT(money,#trim(numberFormat(form.Hour lyWageBefore,999.99))#)'cfelseNULL/cfif Same error. Then I tried this: cfif len(trim(form.HourlyWageBefore))'cast(#trim(numberFormat(form.HourlyWageBef ore,999.99))# AS MONEY)'cfelseNULL/cfif Same error. What am I doing wrong? multiple select drop down from query
This seems to be a very common requirement for me so I'm sure someone can tell me how to do this most efficiently. I have pages that can be in one or more sections. I have a Pages table and I have a Sections table. They are joined with a join table called Page_Sections. I want to enable a HTML SELECT element with multiple selections enabled to update the page assignments. What I have been doing is shown below, and it seems messy. DB Strategy
Over time I have created many little web apps that parts of our organization use. Inevitably there's time when I also want to utilize that data in the DB to pull it to the website, often times relating it to another table that may be in another DB. RE: DB Strategy
That's interesting, I seem to remember a thread on the list a while ago about the best practices for maintenance and security saying that each DB should be fairly narrowly focused. Some of the data is not necessarily related to each other, but more related in that I'd like to be able to do a zip-code statistical look at things in a couple different tables. For instance, I have an Information and Referral database where I need to do zip code lookups. I also have a users database that I would like to do a zip code lookup. Also many of these separate DBs are specific to an application. Oddly enough as I write this i'm seeing way that these things *should* be in the same database. So I guess this turns my question into one of how do I take many different apps developed over many years and integrate them together... :-) Let me narrow the focus a bit. Specifically I have a zipcode database that I need to use in various DBs. Is there a best way to keep this data current across all instances? Should I replicate it when I install the new one? Thanks, John -Original Message- From: Jeffry Houser [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Wednesday, February 05, 2003 3:12 PM To: CF-Talk Subject: Re: DB Strategy You can use ColdFusion's query of a query feature to do this. A more complex route is to write your own custom code to put two queries together into a new query using the query functions. However, I do question the comment that you shouldn't put everything in a big database. Yes, I agree that sometimes there are reasons; such as the data being in no way related. ( For instance, the web site dedicated to my books vs the web site dedicated to my band ). If you are talking about related data, I might make the argument that there is no reason to store it in different databases. Different tables, yes. Different databases, probably not. Of course, it depends on your data and usage. I'm curious (Perhaps even obsessing) over why the data is in different DBs if it needs to be related. RE: DB Strategy
I am using the term (rightly or wrongly) as SQL Server shows it. I have a single database Server with multiple databases. I apologize if this is technically incorrect, I am obviously not a database expert but these are the terms I was taught and have seen quite often. If it helps, I think what I am referring to as a DB you are calling an instance. john -Original Message- From: Lincoln Milner [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Wednesday, February 05, 2003 4:02 PM To: CF-Talk Subject: RE: DB Strategy I should like to put my 2¢ in here, since I've often heard the term database to be used inappropriately in conversation, even by those persons working in the field. In Oracle, you have one Oracle database, typically. Within this database, you have one or more instances that live wholly on their own, and can only be accessed by one another via dblinks (the db starts the confusion). Within each instance, you have one or more schemas, logically structured to match what it is you're doing. Similarly, MySQL has databases that are created, they're not really databases. They could be likened to Oracle's concept of instances. They could be connected to one another without a whole lot of difficulty (if I am remembering correctly). I think the key here is that you should have one database (Oracle, SQL Server, MySQL, PostgreSQL, Informix, whatever). Within this database you can have instances of project data. This way, the data isn't commingled or lost in a shuffle of hundreds of tables, but theoretically can be accessed from one app to the next. To give you an example, we have in our offices one Oracle database. That database holds roughly 12+ instances that have little (most times nothing) to do with one another. Hope this helps... RE: CFMX OS X [rant]
Supposedly Apple's implementation of Java is very well done too. I'm hoping at least we'll see some CF Studio-like features (RDS) in the new Dreamweaver... John Venable -Original Message- From: Dick Applebaum [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Monday, April 29, 2002 3:31 PM To: CF-Talk Subject: CFMX OS X [rant] rant Umm... very disappointed that MX does not run on OS X... I was hoping... At least as a developer platform, if not as a deployment platform. A Mac has some significant advantages for web developers. For example: you can easily and inexpensively run multiple concurrent platforms (Win 9x, Win NT, Win 200, Win MX, Linux, OS X, etc) to test the look and feel of an application in these environments... you can do this all on a machine that costs under $800 and takes up less than15 cubic inches of desk space I am told that is no business case for MM to release CFMX for OS X? I read somewhere, that with the release of OS X, overnight, the Apple logo was on more 'nix workstations than any other. Not to mention. that every Mac ships with OS X, integrated: Apache, Java, etc already installed and ready to use (also Perl and pHp). No separate installs, service packs, downloads... it's all there... part of OS X. I got the feeling that maybe MM looked at Apple's WebObjects (WO) as competition (or vice versa)... but then the MM hookup with IBM shows (potentially) how two competitors can cooperate to the benefit of both (and their customers). I think CFMX WO would integrate nicely (Note, WO, for $700, includes GUI programming/debugging interfaces, and an operational SQL database) Finally, CFMXOSXWO... what a natural for an acronym... it would be on everyones' lips... /rant Dick __ Structure your ColdFusion code with Fusebox. RE: CFMX OS X [rant]
You mean like Apache/PHP/MySQL/postgres? Or are you talking commercial software providers? Also I think the argument could be made that MacOSX is a real *NIX with a fancy window manager on top. John Venable -Original Message- From: Neil Clark - =TMM= [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Monday, April 29, 2002 3:47 PM To: CF-Talk Subject: RE: CFMX OS X [rant] I think as I stated earlier, is that Apple / OSX is not in the mainstream for things like ISP's etc... So in business terms it would be suicidal to create an OSX version of server software which you may sell only a handful of units. I must admit, I have never been a fan of Macs (and yes, I have used them) but OS X is stable[er] than most Apple OS' I have seen/used. It's a case of supply and demand - you have to view the stats of how many Windows / Linux / 'real' Unix users there are against Apple OS - they are overwhelming, making an OSX version harder to justifiably produce. Remember that Windoze, 'real' Unix etc.. are all tried and tested (and broken), just because Apple suddenly started to use a different approach to its underlying achitecture does not mean to say that it had underlying motives for software vendors, in fact it was probably to make it run faster and have less Error Type [fill the blank] I also think it would be stupid for ANY software developer to start producing tried and tested server software for OSX as of yet.
