[cfaussie] Updating ColdFusion 9 For TLS 1.2 Usage
We are using ColdFusion 9.0.1 with jdk 1.7.0_75 version. We have to use TLS 1.2 in our systems. We have tried: - Added *-Dhttps.protocols=TLSv1.2* line to JRun4 > bin > jmv.config file. - Installed jdk1.8.0_172 - jdk1.8.0_221 versions and changed JRun4 > bin > jmv.config > java.home path. After that when i want to open web page, opens empty page. It is empty between body tags. There is no error. I have read an article linked below, i can use ColdFusion 9 with Java 8 without problem. Here is the Stackoverflow link: https://stackoverflow.com/questions/50767125/server-and-jre-are-set-to-tls-1-2-but-coldfusion-9-still-trying-to-use-tls-1-0?noredirect=1=1 Infact, question is simple. How can we use ColdFusion 9 with TLS 1.2. My OS Windows 2008 Server R2, running on Vmware and JRE 8 installed already. RE: [cfaussie] Looking for ColdFusion 10 Installer
I saw your next email, saying that you’d found the CF installers at cfmlrepo.com. To be clear, that is indeed what my bit.ly/cfdownloads below points to. I’d created the latter before Gavin came up with that nice, short domain name of his own. (It used to be a long one, a page in a folder on a site, that was hard to remember.) BTW, folks may be interested to know he calls it “cfml repo” rather than “cf repo” because he and we who have contributed have installers there not only for CF (and way back to 1.5!) but also Lucee and Railo, and more. /charlie From: cfaussie@googlegroups.com On Behalf Of ebre...@whgroup.us Sent: Thursday, June 7, 2018 10:12 AM To: cfaussie Subject: Re: [cfaussie] Looking for ColdFusion 10 Installer Do you by chance know where these files can still be found? none of the links in this thread appear to be active anymore. Did you see the message from the OP, Xiaofeng Liu, of how he solved it (for his specific situation)? https://groups.google.com/d/msg/cfaussie/Ug1tjCcUXCk/RLsTij8XBAAJ He solved it by changing the URL (in the sched task) to be the IP address of the machine (not localhost or 127.0.0.1). If that’s not your solution/issue, did you assess the first few other answers, which addressed more typical explanations for problems of a sched task URL not working though a browser one does? /charlie From: cfaussie@googlegroups.com [mailto:cfaussie@googlegroups.com] On Behalf Of Allan Cliff Sent: Friday, December 8, 2017 09:11 AM To: cfaussie <cfaussie@googlegroups.com> Subject: Re: Re[2]: [cfaussie] CF11 Scheduled Task Not Running - 401 Unauthorized Did anyone ever get to the bottom of this? Thanks for the kind regards, Paul, and of course for your offering to help Scott directly by looking at his code. That said, I will say again that with situations like Scott describes, my experience is that the best approach is to use diagnostics to help spot the problem, as the issue may be about configuration rather than coding. Fair enough (that you feel the problem was there before you enabled the CFSM memory tracking). I’ll just say that there may be more to the problem than meets the eye based on the simple task mgr tracking you are doing. And as for FusionReactor, you don’t need to buy it to try it. RE: [cfaussie] CF9 Enterprise, Memory Leak\Resource Issue
Scott, my response may surprise you, but hear me out. The error indicates that you have the CF Enterprise Server Monitor’s “start memory tracking” enabled (see the references to coldfusion.monitor.memory.MemoryTracker). That memory tracking feature has been known to cause problems—and tragically so, because people turn the feature on to understand problems, not realizing that it often causes more (and worse) problems. And to be clear, this was not something you could have had enabled on CF6, because it came out in CF8. And it may not be that YOU turned this feature on, but perhaps someone else had. And they may even have done it before you moved your code to the server, and perhaps your code is more prone to causing problems with the Memory tracking feature. (Generally the issue is that the more and deeper the objects in memory, the more impact the memory tracking in the CFSM has.) If you turn this off, and things work find, great (I’ve seen it happen before). But if the process in question still causes issue, we can keep oing. First, you say that it “consumes all resources”. What mechanism are you using to confirm that? Do you mean that the memory and CPU for CF, as reported in Task Mgr, goes very high? If so, then you want to find out WHY that app does that. And that sounds like where you are, but let’s have you first make sure the CFSM is not the issue. If the issue is not resolved by turning off the memory tracker, then you will want to use SOME mechanism to understand what is going on (either about the request or about CF, as configured). There are other aspects of that CFSM which could help (some needing the “start monitoring” feature enabled, but some even with no “start” features enabled) to find why the request is running slow and using resources. Better still may be if you had either of the 3rd party CF monitors, FusionReactor or SeeFusion. But let’s start with hearing what you find about the above. /charlie From: cfaussie@googlegroups.com [mailto:cfaussie@googlegroups.com] On Behalf Of Scott Thornton Sent: Sunday, October 22, 2017 10:39 PM To: cfaussie@googlegroups.com Subject: [cfaussie] CF9 Enterprise, Memory Leak\Resource Issue Hi, ( In case anyone is still subscribed to cfaussie ) I have recently moved some code from cf6 to cf9 enterprise and a particular process consumes all of the resources and hangs the CF server. I was able to send the request through the secured connection and get response back. And I can verify in JRun logs that it is using TLS1.2 so everything looks great in that area. Just curious, Xiaofeng, are you making that move because you found that (despite our discussions in this thread) you found you could NOT get CF 9.0.2 to work with TLS 1.2, even upon updating to Java 8 (as was your original question)? Charlie, Thanks for the quick response. Ok I'll put that as an option. The only thing is I saw lots of people saying do this at your own risk. But it does make me feel a bit more comfortable when you suggested that. Just go ahead and run CF9 with Java 8. No, it’s not “supported”, but CF9 hasn’t been “supported” since 2012, so just go for it. Test things, watchin things. It’s worked find for many. /charlie From: cfaussie@googlegroups.com [mailto:cfaussie@googlegroups.com] On Behalf Of Xiaofeng Liu Sent: Tuesday, February 14, 2017 06:43 PM To: cfaussie@googlegroups.com Subject: [cfaussie] Is it even possible to get CF9.0.2 with JDK 1.7 to support TLS1.2? Hi folks, I know this sounds crazy. A web service API we securely connect to is going to disable TLS 1.0 and 1.1 due to the new SSL security standards. I got a CF9.0.2 box with update level /updates/chf9020001.jar applied. It also got java home switched to JRE under JDK 1.7. So it used to work without any issue until recently some changes made to the API testing environment and I got javax.net.ssl.SSLHandshakeException error during hand-shake. Tried following this article below to set -Dhttps.protocols=TLSv1.2,TLSv1.1,TLSv1: https://www.trunkful.com/index.cfm/2014/12/8/Preventing-SSLv3-Fallback-in-ColdFusion What I have also done is to import the whole chain of the API certificates into the keystore under the java in use. However, just like the author of the above article mentioned, it can never go beyond TLSv1 when I make connection to the API. jrpp-1, WRITE: TLSv1 Handshake, length = 186 jrpp-1, received EOFException: error jrpp-1, handling exception: javax.net.ssl.SSLHandshakeException: Remote host closed connection during handshake jrpp-1, SEND TLSv1 ALERT: fatal, description = handshake_failure jrpp-1, WRITE: TLSv1 Alert, length = 2 jrpp-1, IOException in getSession(): javax.net.ssl.SSLHandshakeException: Remote host closed connection during handshake My understanding is CF9 has reached EOL and it does not officially support JDK 1.8 so that does not seem to be an option either. So I would like to reach out to see if anybody ever got this working on CF9 or the only option is to upgrade CF to 11? I appreciate any thoughts on this. -- Thanks, Xiaofeng, -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "cfaussie" group. Re: [cfaussie] CFMail and outlook365
Hi Brian, May be nothing but noting that the SMTP server name in your first CFMAIL example is different to your response to Charlie. Your first example is using smtp.office365.com but in the response you said smtp.*outlook*.office365.com. Did you just accidently include "outlook" in the response or should your original CFMAIL example really been smtp.outlook.office365.com and is why it isn't working? RE: [cfaussie] CFMail and outlook365
I'm not sure if the servers are the same. CFIMAP points to outlook.office365.com. CFmail looks at smtp.outlook.office365.com. They both access the same mailbox. CFIMAP working tag is below (apart for the changes username and password). There is no SSL certificate installed. I was looking at importing one, but with CFIMAP working, I figured it was not required. CF version is 11, latest patches applied. Doh! :-( Second, it’s curious that cfimap would have no problem connecting but cfmail would. You’re saying it’s the same server? And were you connecting via CFIMAP using tls and/or ssl also? If not, then perhaps it’s that you need to import an SSL cert (into the JVM that you have CF using) so that CF can act as an ssl/tls client to the office365.com server. If you ARE using ssl/tls in the cfimap, with the same connection info, perhaps there’s a difference in the underlying way that cfimap vs cfmail do the ssl/tls communication. Along those lines, what version of CF is this (9? 10? 11? 2016?), and what update level? And what JVM version. All these can be seen in the CF Admin “system info” page (the “i” icon in the top right). Later versions of CF and the JVM each address various issues related to SSL (and also include more modern certs, that often avoid the need to have to import one). RE: [cfaussie] Update to CF 9.0.2
Glad to help. If you don’t apply the CF9 hotfixes often, do be very careful. It’s so easy to make a mistake (with so many folders to unzip, and in so many locations). Do consider that post I offered on “why chfs may break”, for some tips on things to beware and resolve. /charlie From: cfaussie@googlegroups.com [mailto:cfaussie@googlegroups.com] On Behalf Of Scott Thornton Sent: Tuesday, March 15, 2016 6:28 PM To: cfaussie@googlegroups.com Subject: RE: [cfaussie] Update to CF 9.0.2 Hi Charlie, Thanks for the dropbox link. RE: [cfaussie] Looking for ColdFusion 10 Installer
One other thing: what’s “boned” about the server, leaving them feeling they have to reinstall? It’s a sincere question. Is it perhaps just that they ran the updater, and it seems CF “can’t start” and/or they “can’t access the Admin”? That would leave most feeling like they have no choice but to reinstall, but it’s not necessary. You can run the update installer manually, as discussed in many available resources, from Adobe and others. Or did they perhaps try to update the JVM, and now that’s got them “dead in the water”? That too can be overcome (even though you “can’t access the Admin”. I have a blog post that could help: http://www.carehart.org/blog/client/index.cfm/2014/12/11/help_I_updated_CFs_JVM_and_it_wont_start/ And of course folks like myself can also guide folks to resolving such problems, often in as little as 15 mins (though it may seem it must take longer, given how desperate people feel when it happens to them). Not free, no, but often far better than reinstalling CF. Hope that info is helpful, to them or others reading this. /charlie From: Charlie Arehart [mailto:charlie_li...@carehart.org] Sent: Wednesday, February 03, 2016 6:19 PM To: 'cfaussie@googlegroups.com' Subject: RE: [cfaussie] Looking for ColdFusion 10 Installer They are offered at bit.ly/cfdownloads. RE: [cfaussie] Looking for ColdFusion 10 Installer
That is a bummer (that they don’t have on the cf repo that updated installer). It was released in March 2014, so should have been posted there. Fortunately I think I do have it (at least Windows 64-bit installer, which is what you need. While the filename did not change, if one looks at the properties, the “file version” changed from 12.0.0 to 14.0.0 and the copyright date of the installer shown changed from 2009-2011 to 2012. Here’s a dropbox link: https://www.dropbox.com/s/705wwq0bac155dm/ColdFusion_10_WWEJ_win64.exe?dl=0 If you confirm that’s the one, I would get it posted on the cf repo. /charlie From: cfaussie@googlegroups.com [mailto:cfaussie@googlegroups.com] On Behalf Of Lucas Sent: Wednesday, February 03, 2016 6:37 PM To: cfaussie@googlegroups.com Subject: Re: [cfaussie] Looking for ColdFusion 10 Installer Hi Charlie, thanks, I thought there would be something like this out there. Re: [cfaussie] SQL identity issue
By the way, if you do everything in sql, you should use "SELECT scope_identity()" instead of "SELECT @@identity". The reason being that if your insert calls a trigger on that table that in turns inserts a row in another table, scope_identity() would return the id of the new row you explicitly inserted, while @@identity would return the id of the row inserted by the trigger. Re: [cfaussie] Has anyone used the HierarchyID data type in MS SQLServer?
Nested sets are so rad. I fell in love with them back when I read joe celko's "sql for smarties" and its companion book "tree and hierarchies in sql". Way to think outside the box. It just gets a bit more complex when it comes to moving nodes around, but if you have the sprocs handy, you're in business. As far as the hierarchy datatype, I've only played with it briefly to study for a cert. It works well, as far as I remember. While under the hood it's pretty much a binary representation of materialized path implementation, the fact that it's a CLR object means it comes with a bunch of helper methods out of the box. Very much like spatial data, if you've ever worked with it (again, awesome). What I am wondering is why you are considering the change if you are happy with the speed and stability of your current implementation (or are you just curious?). Also consider the fact that using the hierarchyID will make it harder to move to a different DBMS or a pre-2008 server if the need arises. To answer your question based on my experimentation and readings, no, MS is not full of it, and yes it's a step in the right direction. Just like CF has always kept adding support for new stuff (xpath, cfdocument...), microsoft is doing the same and that's a good thing. Re: [cfaussie] Has anyone used the HierarchyID data type in MS SQLServer?
Thanks for your response, Christophe. And a good question. I've been using Kevan Stannard's way of handling nested sets until now but it is cumbersome in that it has to have 3 fields to position an element in the tree. Moving an element from one place in the tree to another requires quite a lot of sql. Not a problem if there are only a few movements at a time (e.g. a CMS) but in a products database there could be lots of movements, or mass movements or whole product groups. The MS HierarchyID uses a single field, which is part of the element's record along with the part name, part number, etc etc, and elements can be moved around the tree with a single update statement on a single table, just like updating any other field. That seems on the face of it to be a much simpler thing to use. Hence my question - my understanding is largely theoretical, from reading and a few small scale experiments. Before I dive in and commit to using it, I thought I'd see if anyone else had used hierarchyID types and if there were any 'gotcha's' and if it did in fact deliver the improvements i thought it might. [cfaussie] Has anyone used the HierarchyID data type in MS SQLServer?
Is anyone using the HierarchyID data type in MS SqlSERVER to organise data into trees? On the face of it, accepting Microsoft's word for it (always a risky position to take, I know) it seems like a quick and straightforward way to set up and manipulate data. Has anyone any real life experience to draw on to give me an assessment about whether Microsoft is full of it as usual or is it a step forward from using nested sets and a tree table with right nodes and left nodes to manipulate? (I'm referring to Kevan Stannard's excellent piece on Nested Sets that has kept my data sorted for quite a few years now) -- Cheers Mike Kear Windsor, NSW, Australia Adobe Certified Advanced ColdFusion Developer AFP Webworks http://afpwebworks.com -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "cfaussie" group. [cfaussie] SQL identity issue
Hi everyone. I have an issue with inserting orders into a database. What I currently do is create a random number and insert that number into the database when an order is inserted. I then query the database to get the order number (unique ID generated by SQL Server). Using this order number I then insert the items into an item table. The issue is that its possible for 2 orders to end up with the same unique number, this is because the random function is not actually that random. If two people are submitting orders at the same time, they get the same random number. This means that all of the items ordered go to one customer, and the other customer gets no items. Current code for the random number is Is there a more reliable way of doing this? Brian -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "cfaussie" group. RE: [cfaussie] SQL identity issue
Two issues there, really, it seems, Brian. 1) When you need more truly random numbers, you should call the Randomize function first, and in it you can provide both a seed and an alternative randomization algorithm. See the CF docs, such as (for cf9, which sadly comes up first in google search results): http://help.adobe.com/en_US/ColdFusion/9.0/CFMLRef/WSc3ff6d0ea77859461172e0811cbec22c24-6d3e.html You could also consider using the createuuid function, which creates a different form of random number (with numbers and letters), which may have value. 2) But you refer to getting the identity as a second step and using that. Are you saying THAT ends up being the same? If so, that would not be due to randomization issues, but rather a race condition. You don’t say how you’re selecting the identity from the insert, but there are multiple ways, some better than others at reducing the likelihood of getting one from another insert. I’ll hold off on details until you clarify what you’re doing and whether this would be helpful. Re: [cfaussie] SQL identity issue
Can you combine that random number with something sequential like maybe an index field? that way you'll give the customer a random order number but still be able to keep uniqueness. You could generate the random number, then append the sequential index to it making a larger integer. RE: [cfaussie] SQL identity issue
Hi Brian. Well first of all if you are using SQL Server try this to get the new ID in the same transaction rather than doing another query; SET NOCOUNT ON INSERT INTO orders ( ** Your order fields ** ) VALUES ( ** Your data ** ) SELECT @@Identity AS orderID SET NOCOUNT OFF I am not sure what you use the unique number for other than for something to put onto the receipts or something? However, if you want to obscure the ID in a link you could encrypt it. I have done this is the past where I sent users and email but didn’t want them to be able to just increment the link to see someone else’s order, e.g. displayorder.cfm?orderID=1234 So I did this: Because the orderID is unique the encrypted value should be unique as well. See http://help.adobe.com/en_US/ColdFusion/9.0/CFMLRef/WSc3ff6d0ea77859461172e0811cbec22c24-7c2f.html I am not sure if that is what you actually wanted but I hope it helps! You could also generate a hash of their name and address as the seed, assuming there isn't 2 customers with the same name and address (and you already have this data at this point) On 27 Jan 2016 7:05 a.m., "Mike K" <afpwebwo...@gmail.com> wrote: > Can you combine that random number with something sequential like maybe an > index field? that way you'll give the customer a random order number but > still be able to keep uniqueness. Returning the generated key is what I'm after. This code was originally written about 15 years ago using CF 4.5 and SQL Server 2000. Back then the ID could not be returned. Whats the advantage of returning result.getPrefix().generatedkey rather than using the @@identity function of the database? Is it just to make it database agnostic? or is there another reason for it? Mike, never be afraid to ask for help. I recently updated the JRE on my DEV server to Java 8 Update 72. Did not go as planned but settings are backed up so I just made adjustments to the new path and restarted the server. Boom. jvm.config I believe the file is called. As it is ColdFusion 2016 - my local machine not DEV server - ships with the almost most recent JRE version so good to know before they release it that it's stable under that version. [cfaussie] How to learn IIS 10?
Clearly I dont know anywhere near enough about IIs. Can anyone recommend a good way to learn about it? I've looked at the usual places I learn things - Lynda.com, TutsPlus.com, google for tutorials and learn, and there isnt much available. Even Microsoft's own sites dont have much. Almost everything that's there is about IIs7 or IIs8, but the one with Windows 10 is IIs10, as far as I can tell (but it's hard to tell because I dont think anything actually says in the 'about' tab. And after the frustration of the last week, it's pretty clear that Microsoft themselves haven't got a clue about it or arent telling.I wasted 8 days trying to talk to someone from there about how to make my IIS work. And didnt succeed. Anyone have any good ideas where I can learn enough about IIs10 to be self-sufficient on most routine things? -- Cheers Mike Kear Windsor, NSW, Australia Adobe Certified Advanced ColdFusion Developer AFP Webworks http://afpwebworks.com -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "cfaussie" group. [cfaussie] IIS Error 500.19 0x80070005 Anyone had that?
For day after frustrating day now I've been wrestling with this problem - mostly swinging on the phone to Microsoft support, and arguing over whether I should be passed up the line to someone who can understand IIS. Has anyone seen that problem and knows what I can do to get rid of it? I had IIS working just fine until I updated this box to Windows 10 Profesional. Now my local pages show this error: HTTP Error 500.19 - Internal Server Error ModuleIIS Web Core NotificationUnknown HandlerNot yet determined Error Code0x80070005 Config ErrorCannot read configuration file due to insufficient permissions Config File \\?\D:\Sites\MySites\atalkingdog.com.2006\LiveSite\wwwroot\web.config --I googled the problem and I think the problem is to do with permissions on the user IIS_IUSRS . So i've made sure that user has full control permissions, but the problem hasn't gone away. Strangely, the default page on http://localhost works ok and the CF Administrator pages work fine. It's just my own site that gives this error. Anyone have any hints where I should go now? Microsoft dont have any Australian support staff any more - it's handled by the low level support people in the Phillippines on 132058 who end up passing me to the US support people who then say they wont help, even though they could if they chose to. Thank you so much for responding, Bill and Mark. I'm a newbie IIS user, so forgive me if i say dumb things ... (been using Apache for 18 years - just switched to IIS) It's IIS10 - the version that comes with Windows 10 Pro. Bill: I set them each up with their own application.pool, which is the way the dialog box fills itself when I create a new site.I'm starting to think I should have overridden that to use only DefaultAppPool. Is that how I should do it? Follow-up question: How do i change it from what it is, to that? I can't see where i do that. Mark: Yes I have it set to anonymous authentication. How do I find out who the user it's set to run as? RE: [cfaussie] IIS Error 500.19 0x80070005 Anyone had that?
OK, so at this point you can either change it to use the IIS_IUSR account, or just give permission to the app pool identity! The identity would be IIS APPPOOL\DefaultAppPool when you go to add it in. I would give it full permission first up to see if it works, then see how you want to tighten things up after that. I thought of something after I replied - look up what app identity you site is running under first I guess (it might not be the default). So in the left pane with the list of sites right click the site you want, then ‘manage web site’, then ‘advanced settings’. That’s where you can see/change the app pool that site is using. These links might help if you get stuck. http://jacobthegeek.com/how-to-set-permissions-correctly-for-wordpress-on-iis-7/ http://serverfault.com/questions/81165/how-to-assign-permissions-to-applicationpoolidentity-account From: cfaussie@googlegroups.com [mailto:cfaussie@googlegroups.com] On Behalf Of Mark King Sent: Wednesday, 20 January 2016 5:28 PM To: cfaussie@googlegroups.com Subject: RE: [cfaussie] IIS Error 500.19 0x80070005 Anyone had that? [cfaussie] THERE'S A FIRST!! A Sales call from Adobe!!!
Wonders will never cease!! After more than 20 years working in and around ColdFusion, I have NEVER heard from any sales people . Not since 1997 anyway. And even after leaving message after message at Adobe in Australia at various times who just weren't interested in discussing opportunities with me, obviously because they never once took my call or called me back. Or even finding out what I was calling about. Until today. Today i had a call from someone from Adobe following up on my downloading CF11 trial and seeing what possibilities there might be. I was so flabbergasted I nearly dropped the phone. He said he was put into this role because they were worried about the enormous loss of developers and site owners to other technologies and were wanting to find ways to turn that around.I'm afraid I was a bit brutal on him, and told him in very blunt terms what I thought they could do.He took it with good humour and I thought he listened and took in what I said. Well I hope so anyway. Amazing. -- Cheers Mike Kear Windsor, NSW, Australia Adobe Certified Advanced ColdFusion Developer AFP Webworks -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "cfaussie" group.
