 Annapolis Action Alert

 Clean Money Campaign Finance Reform
 HB 731/SB 546
Lead Sponsors: Del. Jon Cardin and Sen. Paul Pinsky

 Dear Friends,

Just two and a half months ago, on January 4, 2007, State Senator
Joan Carter Conway met with a group of about 30 constituents and
others at the NAACP headquarters on 26th Street and committed to
support Clean Money Campaign Finance Reform.  She promised that she
would personally cosponsor the bill and that it would receive a timely
vote in her committee this session.  We were delighted and grateful
for her strong commitment of support, especially given her powerful
position as chair of the EHEA Committee and also considering the
well-known opposition of the Senate President, Thomas V. Mike Miller.
And, indeed, she has cosponsored the bill and held the bill hearing
early in the session, on February 22nd.

But this week, with just over three weeks left in the session, Senator
Conway has told us that she will not bring up the bill for a vote
because of Mike Miller's opposition.  NOW IS THE TIME FOR SEN. CONWAY
TO HEAR FROM CONSTITUENTS THAT WE ASK HER TO KEEP HER PROMISE AND HOLD
A VOTE ON THE BILL.

We believe that we have the votes to pass the bill out of Sen.
Conway's EHEA committee.  This is the same bill that passed this
committee as well as the full House of Delegates last year.

By way of background, this is the legislation that will make Maryland
the fourth state to enact this cutting-edge solution to the problem of
private campaign contributors accruing undue influence in politics and
policy-making.  The status quo undermines the very foundations of
democracy.  This kind of campaign finance reform -- voluntary public
financing for qualified, viable candidates -- makes available a stream
of funding that comes with none of the strings that inevitably
accompany large private donations, and does it in a way that passes
constitutional muster under the Supreme Court's 1976 Buckley v.
Vallejo decision.  To read more, please visit www.publiccampaign.org.

You can read the Baltimore Sun's editorial on the bill at
www.baltimoresun.com/news/opinion/bal-
ed.reform14feb14,0,3311395.story?coll=bal-opinion-headlines, and you
can read the report of the state study commission that recommended the
bill at http://mlis.state.md.us/other/campaign_financing.pdf.  The
General Assembly's fiscal and policy note on the bill is available at
http://mlis.state.md.us/2007RS/fnotes/bil_0006/sb0546.pdf.

Now is the time to take action and make your voice heard!

Please send an e-mail today to Senator Conway at
[EMAIL PROTECTED], or call 410-841-3145 (I am told
that phone calls get more attention at this late stage of the
session).  Ask her to keep her promise and bring SB546 out of her
committee now.  These calls and e-mails are critical -- they will
allow Senator Conway to tell the Senate President that pressure from
her district requires her to go ahead and hold a vote in spite of his
opposition.

Please forward this e-mail to other 43rd District constituents,
neighborhood e-mail lists, and others who you think will take action
to advance this reform.

The coalition supporting this legislation is made up of a broad range
of organizations including Common Cause, the League of Women Voters,
Progressive Maryland, NAACP, AFL-CIO, Sierra Club, PIRG, and the
Baltimore Jewish Council.  Thank you for adding your critically needed
voice to theirs!

 The Annual Baltimore 'BLUE MASS'
A Community-wide Service of Prayer for the Police, Fire-fighters, and
 Paramedic Teams of Baltimore City

 Tuesday, 24 April, 6.30 PM

SAINT JOHN'S CHURCH 3009 GREENMOUNT AVENUE
 Greenmount Avenue at Thirtieth Street

A Reception follows the Service to thank our Fire-fighters, Police,
and

Paramedic Teams for all their good work on our behalf.

N.B. This is a sacred Service of Prayer to help meet the Pastoral
needs of the men and women of the Police and Fire Departments,
sponsored

by Saint John's Church as an act of gratitude for the many acts of
courage and sacrifice made on our behalf. This sacred time and place
of

reconciliation is NOT the forum for complaints or politics!
 Could you do it??

Could you do what they do? Could you rush into raging flames for a
stranger? Could you put yourself between a gun and someone you've
never met? Could you chase down and tackle someone twice you size?
Could you carry out a dead child to its parents? Could you put in the
IV drip? Could you close a gaping, bleeding wound? They can, and do-
your fire-fighters, police and paramedics. They do it on a weekly
 basis.

Why have a service of prayer for our Police, Fire-fighters, and
Paramedic Teams? Because these individuals do for our city and its
communities what we ourselves are not able to do, or choose not to do,
but know needs to be done; because they engage in work which is both
 physically and spiritually dangerous on our behalf and in our place;
because for us these individuals routinely expose themselves to an
underground society and the underside of ordinary life that most of us
can scarcely imagine. A public service of prayer is a gift to them
which makes us mindful of their particular need for spiritual support,
and of our responsibility to help them to bear what we ask of them.

There is a long tradition in Baltimore of a religious service for the
Legal Profession, commonly called the "Red Mass" because of the
colour of the vestments of the clergy for the patron saint of the
Profession. In this case, because Fire-fighters, Police, and
Paramedics
all have different patron saints, a common date was chosen: the feast
of

Saint George, a martyred Christian soldier (ca.304 AD) who was devoted
to the ideals of his faith, the duty of his office, and who gave his
life in the course of service. He is honoured for his courage and
devotion to his companions, for his fearless willingness to put
himself

in danger for others, and above all for the zeal of his faith. The
special colour of his day would customarily be the red of a martyr, or
white, which can always be used for any saint. It is a happy
coincidence that in the English customs followed at Saint John's
Church, blue is an equivalent substitute for white, and so our
offering

of a "Blue Mass", is especially appropriate for "our men and women
 in blue".

The Service takes the form of a Christian rite and uses Christian
language, but it is prayer to the God of us all, the God of every
language, people and nation. Everyone is invited to enter into the
prayer, the Spirit, and the meaning of this Service as deeply as
possible. If the forms seem somewhat traditional, it is because
Christian worship is very ancient, and because its language
deliberately

recalls the eternal presence of those who have gone before us in life,
faith, and hope. The forms are Christian, but the prayer is universal,
embracing the living with the dead and soaring through God's eternity
which we experience as our present.

The form of prayer for this Service is our most sacred ritual, in
which
Christians believe Holy Communion may be made with God himself, and
with

those who have loved Him. In this rite we offer to God our praise, our
prayers for ourselves and on behalf of others, our sorrow for
wrong-doing, our promise of renewal, and all our very being. We join
these to the supreme offering of the Son of God who gave his own life
as

a ransom for many. On this occasion, baptised Christians who are
communicant members in good standing in their own church are
encouraged

to receive the Holy Communion. Those whose faith does not permit the
reception of Holy Communion in other Churches, non-Christians, or
those

 who

The following concerns a recent string of armed robberies in Ednor
Gardens to our east/north. Waverly residents are in Northern District,
not Northeast. We may want to be extra careful until these robbers are
 apprehended!

Major Rodriguez has just confirmed that there was an armed robbery in
the 3900 Block of Rexmere Road at approximately 11:30 PM last night.

This crime is similar to the other reported incidents. The
perpetrators are Afican American males 14-17 years old. The pattern
seems to be between 1-5 juveniles traveling together. It is believed
that they do not reside in our community.

PLEASE pay special attention to your surroundings as you are leaving
out and returning home. If you see unfamiliar faces do not get out of
 your car.

 REPORT any suspicious individuals.

ALERT other neighbors to be aware.

The police are working hard to apprehend these individuals. Major
Rodriguez has asked that we report any suspicious individuals
immediately. We must become more vigilant until these guys are caught.

Subject: [frederickpac] Anti-War Fast @ UMBC

 Hey FredPAC:

My name is Jonathan Williams. I'm a student at the University of
Maryland, Baltimore County and a part of an activist group on campus.
I'm from Baltimore and a friend-of-a-friend of Gary Staples, who
recommended that I get in touch with you all to network with fellow
peace activists.

I'm e-mailing you regarding an upcoming action we're hosting at UMBC
to protest the illegal war in Iraq. We're planning a five-day fast and
"sit-in" from April 30th - May 4th. Several students will be camping
out in front of our University Center and fasting from food for the
entire week without leaving the area (except to use the bathroom).
Each day of the fast represents 100,000 Iraqi civilians killed from
the illegal U.S. occupation. We'll also be hosting a different event
each day of the week, most of which will likely be speakers such as
Iraq veterans, military families, etc. Through our contacts with a
statewide coalition of Maryland peace groups, we anticipate a great
deal of media coverage for the event.

However, in order to make it the most effective action possible, we
need as many schools in Maryland to join us in hosting their own fast
(or other anti-war action) that week. Would any of you, or people you
know, be interested in helping to organize something at schools in
Frederick? It need not be a fast - any event will do. We're looking to
make a simultaneous demonstration across the state out of this. We'd
love to work together with you. We can help you get things started and
we have plenty of resources across the state with whom we can connect
you.

Feel free to call me ( 443.474.8919) or e-mail me
([EMAIL PROTECTED]) if you're at all interested. Thanks! I
look forward to hearing from you.

 Regards,
 Jonathan Williams

A tree is leaning far far over the steps at the west end of the park.

Also, there are about three very tall dead trees in the southwest end

I contacted the city’s forestry division but haven’t heard back yet.

I thought maybe the Friends of eh Dell could help with these trees.

2) Lets get rid of these one-way streets.  Calvert is a high-way with
people flying by at 60 mph+.  If these streets are two-way, no more
high way...
People in this city are loosing their privilege of having nice

you will have someone tailgating you towards a red light.

3) Enforcement:  Wouldn't you get rid of some of the criminals, who
are doing senseless violence, by getting them while they are speeding,
and driving with guns and driving stolen vehicles? All they have to do
is stay on 28th, 29th, Calvert, St. Paul, etc.. you would have to be
blind not to see a speeder.. Think of all the money they would get

4) We need to CALL, CALL and CALL 911.  Does 311 even work ?  Most

CVCA Public Meeting on 28th Street Problems and Solutions

As you are no doubt aware, on June 5 an alleged road rage incident
occurred during which a cab driver, who was traveling east on 28th
Street with a passenger, was shot at the intersection of Maryland and
28th by a passing motorist. Because this was the last straw in a long
list of traffic accidents and dangerous conditions endured by
residents along 28th Street for many decades (and they are getting
worse every year), on behalf of Westside Neighbors I asked Dana Moore
to have the CVCA sponsor a special meeting with City Transportation
Department Officials, Northern District Police, Belinda Conaway and
Mary Pat Clarke to discuss possible solutions to this problem.
Surrounding neighborhood association presidents and their members will
also be invited to participate. I wanted to have the meeting quickly
so that the memory of what happened is fresh in everyone's memory
because I believe it is symptomatic of a larger problem with traffic
on 28th Street.

The meeting date has been set for Wednesday, June 27, 2007, at 7:30
p.m. at Sts Philip and James Catholic Church at 29th and Charles
Streets. Please mark your calendars and make plans to attend this
important meeting. The official notice of the meeting is below.
Please share the information with your neighbors and other email

Notice of June 27, 2007 Public Meeting

Dear CVCA Members and Friends:

On Wednesday, June 27 at 7:30 p.m., the Charles Village Civic
Association will host a
discussion of possible solutions for problems caused residents by the
increased speed of cars
and aggressiveness of drivers traveling east on 28th Street from the
Jones Falls Expressway
and all points West. Special guests will be representatives of the
City's Department of
Transportation and Northern District Police Department, and City
Council Persons, Belinda
Conaway and Mary Pat Clarke.

The public is invited to attend.

Problems and possible solutions to be discussed:

1. Steps to be taken to reduce speed and aggressiveness of drivers;
2. Negative impact on quality of life of traffic light
synchronization, which promotes
speeding from the Jones Falls to Greenmount;
3. Absence of speed limit signs and the absence of traffic
enforcement;
4. Failure to enforce weight restrictions for truck traffic coming off
the Jones Falls east onto
28th to Charles Street and beyond;
5. Missing "Walk/Don't Walk" signs in some directions at
intersections,
6. Failure of drivers to give right of way to pedestrians at
intersections before making rights
on red, the need for longer delays between light changes, etc;
7. Viability of intersection cameras to catch aggressive drivers and
red light runners;
8. Use of alleys by non-resident drivers as thoroughfares;
9. Viability of speed bumps in alleys and elsewhere;
10. Post-Construction safety issues, e.g. missing streetlights not
replaced after calling 311;

who this man was, but I wanted to know if this is a community

put up last week were still in the park a day after the park clean
up.  My assumption was that people would have ripped them down
yesterday during clean up if they thought they were inappropriate.
I am a new home owner in the area and would like to know the general

Just wanted you to pass the word on to everyone in the house.  A young
girl (early 20s) was riding her bike on the side walk across the
street

from the Schnapp Shop when a group of young boys (9-12 year olds)
punched her in the face. This was last Friday.

Then today we ran into Rory and JW (they live on the corner of 28th and
Calvert St) - they informed us yesterday at 10:50PM right next to Matt
and Jules (the house with the large elevated back deck right behind
you) house on St. Paul their neighbor was assaulted by a group of
young

men aged 16-18 no reason. He was working on his front yard when they
 approached him.

Please be careful - it appears that the gang initiation has started for
both the young and older groups of boys in the neighborhood.  Also
time of day does not appear to be only during the night or evening for
these assaults - several people have reported being harassed early in
the

morning on the way to their parked cars to go to work.

Also it is not only females with this most lastest attack on St. Paul.
The nice man at the Schnapp Shop that the police had informed him to
tell everyone to be aware of their surrounds and not to walk alone
(male or female) or with headphones on.

Oh, what a lovely hot summer - I can't wait for a good cold winter.

Sorry for the downer news but just want to keep you informed and aware
 - better to be safe than sorry. Especially after you have already had
a

 run in with future thugs.

[Chat] Fwd: HOW TO CALL THE POLICE WHEN YOU'RE OLD AND DON'T MOVE FAST ANYMORE

2007-08-08 Thread jberlin

i got a laugh from this. judy

HOW TO CALL THE POLICE WHEN YOU'RE OLD AND DON'T MOVE FAST ANYMORE.

Larry Farris of Universal City, Texas was going up to bed when his
wife told him that he'd left the light on in the garden shed, which
she could see from the bedroom window.
Larry opened the back door to go turn off the light but saw that
there were people in the shed stealing things.
He phoned the police, who asked "Is someone in your house?" and he
said "no". Then they said that all patrols were busy, and that he
should simply lock his door and an officer would be along when
available. George said, "Okay," hung up, counted to 30, and phoned
the police again.
"Hello, I just called you a few seconds ago because there were people
stealing things from my shed. Well, you don't have to worry about
them now because I've just shot them." Then he hung up. With in five
minutes three police cars, an Armed Response Unit, and an ambulance
showed up at the Farris' residence and caught the burglars
red-handed.
One of the Policemen said to Larry: "I thought you said that you'd
shot them!" Larry said, "I thought you said there was nobody
available!"

I actually just received a parking ticket from 2004 that was
originally $27.00.  The current bill is now $500.00 which I paid two
days ago.  I called to find out what I could do and to prove my
consistency with paying parking ticket through out the years.  I was
told that there was nothing they could do unless I wanted to request a
trial and in the mean time the ticket would go up $16.00 a day and if
the police find your car they will boot it and tow it! The trial does
not mean you will get the $500.00 waved.  They informed me that people
will take tickets off of your car and put them on their own so they
don't get a ticket.  Then they will throw them away. Okay I thought,
Well they must have more important things to do like finding people
that are committing violent crimes, but that doesn't seem to be the
case!!!  Regardless, I wanted to let people know that they should
check

on their cars for current tickets that you may not have received.

It's distressing that the police do not believe such an incident to be
high in their priority list. When someone is stabbed and their
intestine is punctured, that is a life-threatening assault. Our police
should be trying to identify the criminals who are preying on our
neighborhood, and the detectives' reluctance to interview the people
involved seems to show that they are not giving us needed attention.

Recent CV robberies have been at gunpoint and knifepoint. According to
the police spokesman, Sterling Clifford, "In the case of the
nonlife-threatening injury, it is not unusual for the detective not to
respond to the scene." Detectives did not interview Benjamin Treat
until 35 hours after the stabbing, and then only after he and his
mother

called several times. I guess the police are telling us they will wait
til someone is killed before making extra efforts to apprehend the CV
criminals. That will be too late.

It doesn't surprise me that Record & Tape Traders is closing. File

programs, on-line music sales and cd burners in every computer have
changed the way music is exchanged. A generation ago Record & Tape
Traders capitalized on on the growing trend of home taping by allowing
customers to 'rent' records overnight for $1.00. In 2007 consumers
no longer need to visit a retailer to get their music.

I had noticed the dearth of wine and other liquors as well but
probably a year or so ago.  I think that they have just rolled back
stock to get what the students are getting.  As well when people are
shopping at 604 and the Wine Source for good wine and
microbrew/specialty beer Eddies can't really compete!

Im not sure what difference it makes, but I bet the estimation is
probably pretty accurate.
I have seen pictures of the houses on my street from when Greenmount
Ave was a field.

So, I tend to think the 100 year old label is right.

This week I had the first case in history of raisin
toxicity ever seen at MedVet. My patient was
a 56-pound, 5 yr old male neutered lab mix
that ate half a canister of raisins sometime
between 7:30 AM and 4:30 PM on Tuesday.  He
started with vomiting, diarrhea and shaking
about 1 AM on Wednesday but the owner didn't
call my emergency service until 7 AM.

I had heard somewhere about raisins AND
grapes causing acute Renal failure but hadn't
seen any formal paper on the subject. We
had her bring the dog in immediately. In the
meantime, I called the ER service at MedVet,
and the doctor there was like me - had heard
something about it, but... Anyway, we
contacted the ASPCA National Animal Poison
Control Center and they said  to give IV fluids
at 1 & 1/2 times maintenance and watch the
kidney values for the next 48-72 hours.

He started vomiting again overnight at MedVet
and his renal values continued to increase
daily. He produced urine when given lasix as a
diuretic. He was on 3 different anti-vomiting
medications and they still couldn't control his
vomiting. Today his urine output decreased
again, his BUN was over 120, his creatinine was
at 10, his phosphorus was very elevated and his
blood pressure, which had been staying around
150, skyrocketed to 220 ... He continued to vomit
and the owners elected to Euthanize.

This is a very sad case - great dog, great owners
who had no idea raisins could be a toxin. Please
alert everyone you know who has a dog of this
very serious risk.

Poison control said as few as 7 raisins or grapes could
be toxic. Many people I know give their dogs grapes
or raisins as treats including our ex-handler's. Any
exposure should give rise to immediate concern.
Onions, chocolate, cocoa, avocadoes and macadamia nuts can be fatal,
too.

Even if you don't have a dog, you might have friends
who do. This is worth passing on to them.

Hello, all,
Being a chain of German supermarkets implies foreign ownership. No offense to
Aldi, I'm sure they are as good as people say they are, but i think I'll stay
with American owned Markets ande keep my money stateside.

Aldi is a chain of German supermarkets that several years
ago opened here. We'd never been in one until Kathleen
went to the Aldi in Highlandtown. I heard that they are owned
by the same family that owns Trader Joe's. Aldi has
an "everyday low price" scheme, without a lot of sales
and promotions. Some examples (not on sale):

2 lbs long grain brown rice $1.29
cone coffee filters #4 size $1.59
German pumpernickel bread $1.49
tub of butter substitute $0.99
bran flakes $1.49

I think it's worth going back if you're down that way.

I know about giant. I shop there as little as possible. I find their
sales insulting. I like the sales at Super Fresh, even tho their prices
r higher. The sales make up for the higher prices.

Last week Thomas's bagels were 1.99.

On 04/15/2010 02:28 PM, Stephen J Gewirtz wrote:

Judy,

If you believe that we should not shop at foreign owned supermarkets,
then you will not shop at Giant.

Giant was founded by a kosher butcher named Isidore Cohen who lived
somewhere in the DC/Baltimore area, but before he died, he sold Giant
to Royal Ahold which is a Dutch Company. After that, in my opinion,
Giant went downhill. I have been told that Stop & Shop, a chain in
Massachusetts also acquired by Royal Ahold and now part of the same
division of Royal Ahold as Giant, has also gone downhill in quality of
service to customers.

A few years ago, Royal Ahold was caught cooking its books i.e.
pretending to be more profitable than it was. That involved stores in
South America, not in the U.S.

Personally, I will continue to shop at Giant for the things that I
cannot readily get at the farmers' market. But I tend to buy a lot at
Whole Foods (expensive often, I know, but worth it to me for the
quality and for products that cannot be found at Giant or Eddie's, and
Whole Foods is an American company), and I often go 3 blocks to
Eddie's rather than 6 blocks to Giant.

Safeway pulled completely out of Baltimore City some years ago, then
moved back into the City when it opened its store in Charles Village.
My impression is that its prices are higher than those at Giant. As
much as I hate Walmart, I expect it to have a good effect on prices at
Safeway. Giant reportedly lowered its prices because too many of its
customers were driving to a Walmart.

use them later in the year, but preserving them in their "natural"

won't hold up to home freezing. But somethings you can do:
Peel and slice them and freeze the pieces for use as a puree or in
smoothies, for example, where you'll still get the nice fresh taste
and nutrients, but the mushy texture won't matter.
Can them now in a simple syrup (sugar and water) with flavorings such
as vanilla, bourbon or brandy to use with ice cream as a great dessert
this winter.
Make peach butter (like apple butter, but with peaches)cook them,
spice them with cinnamon, nutmeg, etc. and can them for a spread all
year -round.
Make peach jam (similar to above, but without the spices and with the
possible addition of some pectin to make a more jelly-like consistency).

Dry them using a food dehydrator or your oven.
Make peach chutney and freeze or can it.
I've never been lucky enough to have a peach tree, but I used to do
all of the above with bushel baskets of peaches from the farmers'
market. It's really not hard and it's so nice to have come winter.

I have a serious leak in the downspout which goes down through my
front porch. It has undermined the column and the roof section that
is beneath it. I have already invested thousands of dollars into
repairs on this and it has always leaked. Does anyone know someone

I have with my downspout once and for all? Please help!

Thank you for your suggestions,

on ways and methods the residents can dispose of this material if the
City not longer can deal with the material.

This greatly affects the CVCBD for when there is no place to dispose

We still get ours even though we

that the Sun makes money off of it by telling advertisers
"Sun Plus has X many subscribers" so it's not exactly in

Regina--

I had a horrible rat problem in the back yard several years ago. When
the city began its recycling program, I got serious and bought
trashcans with lids for garbage and recycling containers. That cut
way back.

I'm sure you already cover trash, but those who don't should seriously
consider putting lids on trashcans.

Mice? I'd like some ideas too.

 Hello Everyone,
I was just notified that my third floor tenant has a mouse problem,
maybe a
rat? We don't have these problems in the rest of the house, yet.
An occasional
mouse but not a huge deal. I was wondering what people are doing
around the

area for mice and rats. Our back yard definitely has a rat problem but
last year I cleaned and cleaned and cleaned more, all summer and spent
a lot of
time out side with my dog and that seemed to help. However they were
still

there just not as bad. ANY IDEAS!!??

done so I'll move it out of the gutter.I know it's my neighbor's
container. Many people park on vineyard who are shopping on greenmount.
This is becoming more complicated than it needs to be. The bottom line
is don't throw my stuff around. I don't care where u set it so long as

Re: [Chat] trash cans

2011-04-01 Thread jberlin

 Mr Hill,

I understand that no tax money is being used. The CVCBD is not a
municipality. Since many municipalities are incompetent,I hope the CVCBD
is not using them as an example of what to do.

This is extravagance out of control.
I am sure Witt Industries is reputable. They have been in business a
long time, probably due to frivolous purchases.

I cannot conceive of any rationale that would justify this waste of money.

Sincerely,
Judy Berlin

David Hill wrote:

Judy:

No tax money is being used to purchase the cans; it is all being raised from
foundations, businesses, and residents. To date, we have over $24,000. The
most recent donation is from PNC Bank.

The trash cans we are purchasing are made by Witt Industries a reputable
American company in Ohio that has been in business for over 100 years. The
particular cans we are purchasing are the Stadium Series described here:
http://www.witt.com/Stadium-Series/2009/03/message-center.php As quality
trash cans go, these are actually on the less expensive side at $600. Many
municipalities spend far more as you can see from browsing this website and
others. The trashcans you see in parks for example typically cost well over
a $1000 each.

I have attached the two page proposal I gave to the Board several months ago
when I first put forward this idea and also a picture that compares the old
and new cans; the new can was on loan from Stevenson University. I think my
proposal pretty much explains the rationale.

The first shipment of 15 cans will arrive in mid April hopefully just in
time for the Mayor's Spring Cleanup. I am meeting with the Mayor's staff
today to arrange for her to participate in a "ribbon cutting" ceremony at
about 9:30 Saturday April 16th in the park at Calvert Street and 24th. I
will keep everyone informed as to whether this event is "ON" or "OFF". I
hope you will join us if it is.

I tried that. I couldn't find the link to send a 'reader's response'.

about a yr ago the same situation was happening except it was the
BG&E. the solicitor wanted to see people's g&e bills, offering cheaper
services elsewhere. Northern district came out. Surprisingly it was
legit. A couple times it would be a black guy talking and a white gal on
the sidewalk. I don't know what company initiated all this. due to
various security issues it certainly wasn't good judgment on someone's
part. That in turn tells me the company is not one to deal with. No one
should be going door to door . For the safety of both parties.

no one should be going door to door no matter what. this also happened
in Waverly last yr.
i have a security door also. be safe and use common sense. something
seriously lacking in this society. Judy

Judy,

These folk did ask to see my BGE bill. I remember the situation about
a year ago, and someone came to my door then. What made me really
suspicious this time was the accompanying behavior (ringing my bell,
saying they had the wrong person, then still being there a few minutes
later when I decided to take another look, and only then trying to
sell me on changing electric companies). This made me suspect that
they were mimicking the earlier door to door solicitations as a way to
try to get me to open my security door.

By the way, this incident made me extremely glad to have a security
door. It functions as a storm / screen door, but it provides a
barrier when I want to answer the door without being vulnerable to an
intended home invasion. Such doors are not cheap, but they are well
worth the money.

Silk soy milk made in the USA
cvs q-tips USA made
Hartz- crunch and clean biscuits- USA made
Calmoseptine ointment - USA made
some Campbell condensed soups but not all.

Distributed by with no mention of where product is made
usually means made outside the USA.

Distributed by__ AND made in the USA is what I look for.
I figure if the product doesn't indicate where it is made then chances
are it is made elsewhere.

Buy American

A private hauler empties the dumpster behind 2645? St. Paul around 6:00.

I've gotten used to the noise.

What did the hauler say to you, John?

I believe the trash at McDonalds at 29^th is picked up in the wee
hours… but that’s on the other side of a block-long parking lot (and
then a ½ block to our house), so it’s not too noisy.

Has anyone been disturbed by trash haulers who empty dumpsters
early in the morning? The law prohibits the private trash truch from
collecting trash and emptying dumpsters before 7:00 am. This morning
I confonted the operators of a truck emptying a dumpster behind 2645-47
North Charles Street when I was awakened by the truck before 6:00 am.
I am curious how widespread this problem is in Charles Village.
