[CinCV] Cinelerra build problem on x86_64 Linux

2008-04-28 Thread Joona Palaste
I have problems getting Cinelerra to build on an x86_64 Fedora 8 Linux
system. At first the make stopped right away, but then I made a
directory x86_64 and copied the entire directory structure there. This
got most of the code to build, but now I am getting an error message:

make -C quicktime
/bin/sh: -c: line 1: syntax error: unexpected end of file
/bin/sh: x86_64/c_flags: No such file or directory
/bin/sh: x86_64/lame_flags: No such file or directory

make[1]: *** [all] Error 2
make[1]: Leaving directory `/home/joona/test/cinelerra-2.1'
make: *** [all] Error 2

Trying to build quicktime (with a similar x86_64 directory) gives the
following error message:

ffplay.o: In function `main':
/home/joona/test/quicktime4linux-2.2/ffmpeg.052906/ffplay.c:2451:

make[1]: Leaving directory
`/home/joona/test/quicktime4linux-2.2/ffmpeg.052906'
make: *** [x86_64/ffmpeg] Error 2

What should I do? I have checked I have the Xlib.h and libX11.so files
present.

Thank you,
Joona Palaste

If you want , you can compile a newer snapshoot using the

I tried that, and everything except one dependency worked. I got this

Trying to install or update libx264 told me that the package was already
installed, so I think I have an incompatible version. How should I
proceed?

Indeed, you have mixed package from an incompatible repository
You need to have livna only and remove freshrpms and/or atrpms.
Then install the livna version of theses packages...

Thank you! I got Cinelerra to download by disabling freshrpms and
enabling both livna and kwizart. It also enabled me to download xine and
k9copy, which I need to play and rip videos.
But when I start up Cinelerra, and load a WMV file into it, when I play
the movie, all I get is a blank picture and static audio. Cinelerra
won't even load AVI files. Is this a problem with codecs? Xine has no
problem playing both WMV and AVI once I download xine-libs-nonfree, but
they don't work with Cinelerra.

What does Cinelerra Info dialog say about the WMV file?
(Resources Window|Media folder - right-click on the loaded file, choose
 Info)

When I load a WMV file, Cinelerra pops up a dialog saying that the format
is unrecognised, suggesting raw PCM. The dialog offers no way to tell
Cinelerra to assume that it is a video file.

   What did you see?

As far as I know, Cinelerra does not support the asf container
 used by WMV files.

I saw exactly that. The format is unrecognised, and Cinelerra suggests
raw PCM.

I was able to find a solution to convert WMV to MPG at this site:
http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/linux-software-2/wmv-to-mpg-is-this-possible-easily-and-a-sound-problem-551589/
(The first Google hit for Cinelerra WMV.)
It clogged up my 2.2 GHz dual core processor for almost ten minutes, and
produced an MPG file of about the same size (44 megabytes) as the
original WMV file. When I view this in Xine, the audio quality is the
same, but the video quality has dropped considerably. When I try to load
the MPG file in Cinelerra, Cinelerra crashes. Is this because it runs
out of resources?

[CinCV] Scaling down WMV video?

How can this be done? Can I use mencoder for it?

I find vlc useful for this kind of thing.

I have tried downloading vlc but have not get it to even build, let
alone start. With Cinelerra I can at least get it to start.

Well, I have received a WMV video made by a friend of mine, on a Windows
computer, and want to play it on my Zen Vision W. But the resolution is
too high for the Zen Vision W to be able to play it. I have tried this
kind of command line:

mencoder -of lavf -oac copy -ovc lavc -vf scale=320:240 -o
video_small.wmv video.wmv

This produces a WMV file of the correct screen resolution, but Xine has
problems playing it (it plays the original correctly), claiming that the
frame rate has dropped considerably. The Zen Vision W refuses to even
start playing it. Am I doing something wrong with mencoder?

[CinCV] How to make an AVI file smaller with Cinelerra?

2009-03-04 Thread Joona Palaste
I just downloaded the latest version of Cinelerra for my Fedora 9 64-bit
system, and tried to use it to edit the AVI file I just recorded with my
camera. The AVI file, 1 m 30 s of 720*480 pixels, is 180 MB in size.
This is far, far too large for me to post on the Internet. I want to use
Cinelerra to make it smaller, but I don't know how. Cinelerra loads and
plays the file just fine, but whenever I try to render it into another
AVI file, regardless of the settings, the audio track somehow shrinks to
less than 30 s long, making it entirely out of sync with the video
track. This is unacceptable. How can I ensure the audio and video tracks
stay the same length? And what factors contribute the most to the
overall file size?

 Hello!
Why you no transcode the film with mencoder?
Cinelerra is for edit the video. If you only want to change size, is
 better to do with mencoder.

I tried this command:

mencoder original.avi -vf scale=360:240 -o edited.avi -oac copy -ovc
lavc -lavcopts vcodec=mpeg4:mbd=1:vbitrate=4

It resulted in a 16 MB file, less than one-tenth of the original file's
size. But that's still not small enough. To be able to post it on the
Internet, I would want it to be a couple of megabytes, at the most. Is
this even possible?
