Blue Sea calculates that for a 100amp load 2 conductors and 10 feet in the
engine room you need 2 AWG - roughly 1/4 inch diameter. Seems on the small
side compared to what I have but I wouldn't get too upset. Follow the
calcs.

Is that drop to starter or from alternator?

Gauge required is a function of the amperage and round trip wire length.

BTW, my rig failure was a clean bending failure right at the cross
bolt for the spreaders and lower shroud tang.  The only reason that
the upper part of the mast stayed above the deck was the wire main and
jib halyards.  This is an area with a pretty high stress riser.  I
cant imagine how much more difficult it would have been to deal with
if the mast had sunk.  I'm sure we would have had to cut the shrouds
and sails and let them sink.  Anyone need a 2010 North Main Sail or an
older UK 150 Jib?  You cover shipping and they are yours.

A lot less than she's worth considering all the work I have into her!
But realistically, in this market, I'd be happy if I could get $45K.

Hi Josh,

Truth be told, I fell in love with the 37/40+ 16 years ago when I was boatless
and saw them on Yachtworld. I later found the 34/36 model and Stu's brochures
which led me to checkout a boat that I couldn't afford one lunchtime. The
following year, several things changed and I bought that boat. I've owned her
now for 15 years and looking back I learned a hell of a lot, mostly through

I wouldn't mind owning a 37/40, more room, easier motion in a seaway perhaps,
that centerline queensized bed. No offense, I just prefer what I have, what I
know.

BTW, my rig failure was a clean bending failure right at the cross bolt for the
spreaders and lower shroud tang. The only reason that the upper part of the
mast stayed above the deck was the wire main and jib halyards. This is an area
with a pretty high stress riser. I cant imagine how much more difficult it
would have been to deal with if the mast had sunk. I'm sure we would have had
to cut the shrouds and sails and let them sink. Anyone need a 2010 North Main
Sail or an older UK 150 Jib? You cover shipping and they are yours.

No dodger; we don’t need it here (it is either too hot or too cold here). And I
know that a dodger would be an issue.

It does work well. It made the main adjustments so much easier, especially when
close hauled and in high winds.

Looks like it probably works perfectly. Do you not have a dodger? That would
be my only hold up.

Re: Stus-List C 35 mkiii mainsheet set up

2017-12-01 Thread Chuck S via CnC-List
I also appreciate the need for good mainsheet systems. I changed the system on
Resolute twice before I settled on the present 5:1/20:1 system. It involved
moving the traveller from behind the pedestal to in front of it. I found the
6:1 purchase was hard to release when loaded up. So I added a 4:1 double ended
fine tune and lowered the traveller to the cockpit floor. This change allowed
me to drop a pulley and shorten the mainsheet length 20 feet.

If I had the traveller on the coach roof like the 35 MkIII, which uses three
blocks on the boom to spread the load, I'd set it up for singlehanding by
keeping the present purchase and take the aft end of the purchase back to a
block on the boom end (you'll need to add a Bail and a block) and install a
fine tune between that and a padeye through bolted to the cockpit floor right
in front of the pedestal. This would give you the ability to ease the main
from the helm when hard on the wind, so you can turn around the windward mark,
or simply play the main in gusty conditions. You'll need to replace the
mainsheet with longer line to do any of these things.

Chuck,

FWIW, my wife and I have each single handed our 37+ (37/40). It isn't
"easy" but certainly doable. I would tell a prospective buyer that they
shouldn't go overboard and expect all the luxuries of land but a few extra
feet will probably not be regretted. If they made a 44+ I would buy
itand then dream of the 51'...haha.

Re: Stus-List C 35 mkiii mainsheet set up

2017-12-01 Thread ALAN BERGEN via CnC-List
My setup is similar to yours - 3:1 purchase plus the self - tailing winch.
The more purchase you have with a triple block means it will take longer
for the boom to go in and out when you change direction. Also, in light
air, you may have too much friction for the boom to go out by itself when
going downwind, and your crew willhave to push the boom out. My boat came
with a setup similar to Josh's, and I switched over to the present
configuration.

Re: Stus-List C 35 mkiii mainsheet set up

2017-12-01 Thread Josh Muckley via CnC-List
More power means less travel per foot of line pulled, ultimately resulting
the need foe more line. Are you wanting less effort on the traveler or the
mainsheet? You can ease traveler movements by easing the mainsheet first.
If getting sufficient mainsheet tension is the issue then consider a
compound block arrangement. There are a couple different options but one
way or another you can achieve the effect of a course adjustment and a fine
adjustment.

Here are some pictures of mine. I made it myself as Garhauer doesn't make
one purpose built. The course adjustment is 3:1 and on the cabin top. The
fine adjustment is 12:1 and readily available in the cockpit.
